I got into a car wreck today (about an hour before making this post). I was at a red light, I needed to get over into the right turn lane. There was a car who was too far out so I couldn't pull straight into it. I turned at an angle to pull into the turn lane from the red light and forgot to check my blind spot :( . A car was coming towards the turn lane. Luckily I saw them in time and stopped and they swerved. I am driving a Ford Explorer and he had a much smaller car so his mirror flipped shut and it hit the corner of my bumper.

We exchanged information and went on our ways. My parents got kinda mad and I was very frustrated with myself.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I've only had my license for about 2 months. I'm a little shook up at the moment. Any comments people have or if anybody wants to share there own stories, its open for discussion. It scared the crap out of me, I hate driving now :-#

Oh. I'm glad that it wasn't more serious. I can understand how you could be shaken up. I'm glad you're alright. I have a Ford Expedition. It's a little bigger than an Explorer. I hate driving it. #-o

Good thing is nobody got hurt. I got my license a month ago and I haven't driven a whole lot by myself, mostly because my dad doesn't trust me and I'd like to stay accident free for a year so that I can get my full license when I'm 17.

May not be at all similar but I think it's terrible how things can affect your driving, keep it easy dude don't do any long drives if you're feeling shook up..

Oh, I wont stop driving. It's impossible to stop driving :lol: . It was just very very scary and I was very very mad at myself because I made such a stupid mistake. I'm not a bad driver (my dad says I can drive better then my mom). I just didn't check my blind spot or my mirror when I pulled over. I still can't understand why because I always do -.-

You're lucky it was that minimal. Things like this make you a better driver in the end.

I'm not sure it can be called a car wreck if there wasn't at least one car wrecked. In fact, I think of car wreck as meaning the wreckage left after a particularly serious car crash; so, to say that one got into a car wreck conjures up to me the image of a person climbing into a smashed up car.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Still, it's always a bit of a shock when that sort of thing happens. I was once being driven home from school when, proceeding down the road (in a northerly direction) passing a line of stationary traffic, the car was smashed into from the side by none other than my history teacher's red Porsche. Seems he didn't see us coming past and pulled out right into us. As I recall his car came off worse, even though ours was (I think) written off.

i've been in a pretty bad collision before where our car was hit pretty hard by a SUV while we were going downhill. i wasn't driving, but it wasn't too nice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

i would say just don't let it get to you. make sure to check blind spots too, and definitely think ahead so you won't have to make those last second decisions which can lead to complications.

I almost did this in Palo Alto. I was driving from the Stanford campus downtown at night and almost hit this black BMW. Thankfully my friend warned me just in time.. I don't think my parents would have been very happy with me getting into an accident, especially with a BMW! xD

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just remember to learn from your mistake. I bet you're going to check your blind spot twice before merging into the right turn lane, haha.

When I got into a crash (single vehicle) about 8 months ago...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I did about $5,500 damage - somehow - after spinning out and sliding over a Keep Left sign (brisbane residents most likely now how small those little bastards are in height but large surface area on the sign).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was fine after the accident, although my mum has since forbid me to drive the family car - EVER. That itself had a more dramatic effect on my "confidence" than the accident. It wasn't my fault it happened either:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

- Poor drainage on the road

 

 

 

- First rain for about 4 months (makes the roads slicker than usual)

 

 

 

- I was going about 20km/hr (10 under the limit).

 

 

 

- It's a rear wheel drive car

 

 

 

- Back tyres were technically bald

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do the math, I came round the turn (from a dead stop) and started to accelerate after I had straightened up (at least I believed it was enough) and the back wheels kept following the path of the turn, tried to correct and it didn't do a damn thing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What's more interesting is about 15 minutes after I had spun out - a sedan (family far is a wagon) spun out in the EXACT SAME MANNER as I did. And for the half minute we were looking at each other, I nodded to my car, to the sign then to his car and he had that "what a [bleep]" look on his face; knew all too well what happened to me.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All that aside, first time I drove the car again was to work. After a lot of negotiation - since she was going down the coast with my sister and her brother - the chances were I'd knock off before they'd be back anyways; had to threaten she pay for "waiting time" which I called at triple time and a half - or about $80/hr - for her to let me take it. Ironically it was raining, and I swear, that being banned from driving had a VERY big negative effect on me. I'm still weary about spinning out again, and it's mainly due to never being given the chance to "get back to it" her lack of confidence pretty much [bleep]ed me over :uhh:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

That and I still don't think she's got new tyres on the back wheels since the other day they spun on DRY when she was taking off from a stop.

Your first little incident/crash/collision in a car always shakes you up a bit, especially when it could have been more serious. My sister over the years has had loadsa bumps, none particularly serious except the one time she rolled her car twice down an icy motorway and ended up on the hard shoulder on her roof. Stuff like that really shakes you up.

Don't worry too much about it. You got off easy. :P

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some old fart hit my car and totalled it back in October, and his insurance company denied my claim saying it was more than 50% my fault (there were no street signs, I had the right of way, and he hit me when I was 3/4 through the intersection...do the math on THAT one!), so they're not paying me jack. Soooo...I haven't had a car now for a few months. :P Lame.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now I have to play tag with my lawyer and State Farm Insurance, paying him $180 per letter he sends them threatening to sue. I still have yet to receive a letter from those idiots, but trust me, I'll get my money. There's no way they'd go to court with it (98% of cases never do!), and even if they did, I would destroy them MYSELF without a lawyer present, that's how obvious my case is, lol.

When my friend got his licence, the first three times i got into the car with him he crashed. He has had 2 cars written off. So yours isn't really too bad.
