Phobias/Fears

You guys need to see people with some real phobias - that will put your own into context. A real arachnophobic, is someone who sees a spider in the corner of a room, and won't go back in there at all for weeks, in case it has a spider in it. A real phobia should interrupt your life considerably. You guys are probably mostly just a bit worried :)

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

Yep, that's me...see a spider = screaming, bulging veins, perspiration, inability to re-enter the room...etc :(

Yeah, that's what I consider a true phobia. However, my fear of spiders is pretty irrational (they can't hurt me, there's no reason why I should be scared of a small spider when a large beetle doesn't scare me) which is why i'd call myself a mild aracnophobic.

My Top Ten Fears:

1. Death - Um...Duh?

2. Fire - I've been afraid of it for a really long time...

3. Vehicular accidents (Airplanes count) - I fly a lot...And I hear about fatal car accidents all the time... :ohnoes:

4. Heights/Open Spaces - This is ONE fear. It's a type of "fear of heights". I'm fine if the area is enclosed, but if not...I'm going to go crazy.

5. Escalators - Number 4 leads to this one.

6. Dogs - One bit my mom when I was five...Even before that, their teeth scared me.

7. Losing something I love - Not someone. That'd go under number one.

8. Styrofoam - Or at least the sound it makes when scraped...Whenever I pick some up, I get this feeling...

9. Glitter - Don't ask. =;

10. Failing - Not only grades...Failing to meet someone's expectations...

What do you mean "Death...um duh?!". You do realise public speaking is a more common fear then death.

Strange...I'm sure there are more people afraid of death, some are just afraid to admit it...Oh yeah...That's what I left out! Public speaking is my number 6 fear. Kicking failing off the list.

Fear of flies. >.> It's lame. A cat got into the garbage bags, and it rained, and I had to rebag it, and there were like a million flies. It was [bleep]ing freaky.

And then, a fear of deep water and water animals. Like whales and squids and stuff. ;O

Oh man, I HATE that noise and the feeling of cutting into styrofoam :ohnoes:

I don't believe in phobias. As I see them as a pointless way to label certain fears that can be gotten over if you work at it.

You know some phobias are actually concidered medical conditions? Its like a developed irrationality, a complex if you will. Of course you can work it out, but it dosent change the fact that they can severely impact on peoples lives, with no fault of thier own. It's like a disability for some people.

I can't walk in front of bathroom doors at schools/airports/restaurants (basically anywhere other than a house.. I'm fine with that). I'm always afraid the door is going to swing open as someone walks out, and hit me in the face.

These are all my phobias...

Belonephobia- Fear of pins and needles. (Aichmophobia)

Bad experience, I use to sew and I left an open box of pins on the floor. tripped and they got stuck on me and the box flung them everywere somehow...

Batophobia- Fear of heights or being close to high buildings.

Also bad experience, I was climbing a mountainous area that went vertical at the higher point looking for firewood because we were having a contest to see who can gather the most wood, start a fire and burn a string the quickest. I was looking for firewood up there cuz there were dead trees and their branches were falling off. So I climb, and now I'm about 14 feet from the part were you can stand I lose grip and slip abit, luckily for me I regain my hold but my pants were completely torn at the knees and I was abit bloody. But all in all it was fun I just hate height cuz I think I shall fall or someone will push me.

Catagelophobia- Fear of being ridiculed.

Claustrophobia- Fear of confined spaces.

Cnidophobia- Fear of stings.

Cryophobia- Fear of extreme cold, ice or frost.

Dementophobia- Fear of insanity.

Harpaxophobia- Fear of being robbed.

Lygophobia- Fear of darkness.

Monopathophobia- Fear of definite disease

Nosocomephobia- Fear of hospitals.

Nosophobia or Nosemaphobia- Fear of becoming ill.

Tyrannophobia- Fear of tyrants.

Zelophobia- Fear of jealousy.

Yeah, I have that too, to the extent when I hold my breath when handling most rubbish and wash my hands every time I handle rubbish/something dirty.

I'm scared of heights. :( One time, me and my brother climbed a really tall tower in the mountains. It was an old fashioned tower that was used to spot forest fires (made of wood). When we got to the top, the wind was blowing and I felt like the tower was leaning from side to side. It was soooo scary. I clenched my fists until I cut myself with my fingernails. I'll never ever go back up there again.

I also get really scared around a large group of people. For that reason, I really hate Christmas shopping with the crowds and everything. I have to go outside of the mall for awhile to get some fresh air, otherwise I feel as though I'm going to pass out. I really hate it.

Erm, I know it sounds strange, but I'm absolutely terrified of fish. Touching one, looking at one... Not scared of sharks or fish tank fish, more dead ones and ones that could be in the sea.

That would be the only thing I would consider to be a phobia, unrational fear of fish...
