I hate Global Warming!

Recommended Posts

This may sound "nerdy" or "rediculous", but this is how I really feel. The main reason I hate Global Warming? No snow to go snowboarding on!

Intro:

I live in the mid-west. We have always had cold, snowy winters, every year. 4/5 christmas's we would have snow on the ground. But this year? We had 50 degrees with thunder storms :/. It is January 5th. I had a break on the job today and I actually had to roll up my sleeves (when I was outside!) because I was hot. I was just sitting down eating chips too, so no hard labor. We had one 1 1/2 foot snow on December 5th? I forget. But the rest of the winter has been 40 degree weather with rain! This is outragous. I love snowboarding... How can I snowboard without snow.

Problem:

Of course. Global Warming is not good, eventually, it is supposed to cause major flooding due to the melting of ice caps. There are more CO2 emisions being trapped in earths atmosphere. Not a good situation. The guise(sp?) still havnt migrated south yet! They are still flocking behind my house. This is a MAJOR problem. Ice caps are breaking off. Recently, an ice cap the size of 14 football fields broke off. It is supposidly floating in the ocean and may float in the way of shipping paths, making it a huge problem.

Conclusion:

I really just want to go snowboarding. Me and my buds go snowboarding every winter break, this is the first winter break we didn't go. The reason was, it did not snow. ONCE. I blame Global Warming, as it is rising Global Temperatures and making it less likely to snow.

Why don't you go to one of those indoor snowboarding centres or something?

I know that here in the UK we have a huuuuuuge place called the Snow Dome, I think it's in/near Birmingham.

Weather can vary on a year-to-year basis aswell. Last year we had sun up until November, the year before that we had it up into December.

Anyway, are you doing your bit to help slow down global warming? Are you walking/cycling instead of driving/getting driven? Do you turn off unnecessary lights? Do you use energy-saving bulbs?

If everyone were to do all they could to slow global warming, we'd only need half of the power stations we already have. But there's people out there who don't really care, they see it that they aren't going to be around to reap the benefits of stopping global warming, so why should they help.

Not to get all pessimistic, but you as a single person can do veeery little. The people who control the fate of global warming are the ones everyone is against: politicians. We hate them because they won't do anything, and they know if they did something on a large scale (Such as to simply stop factories until they became "green friendly") that the economy would come to a halt. If we want clean power, we're going to need to wait until it becomes feasible.

I also live in the Midwest, and it bugs me too. Global warming in my opinion isn't to blame though. People think that because we have warm temperatures (35-45 degrees) it's global warming. Really, those temperatures aren't that warm.

The underline cause: El Nino.

El Nỉ̮̱̉o is an oscillation of the ocean-atmosphere system in the tropical Pacific having important consequences for weather around the globe.

This one is hitting the Midwest very hard. We have had them in the past, but they never greatly effected the Midwest.

Don't get me wrong, global warming is a serious problem that effects many people, but you need to remember weather changes. In my opinion, it just isn't the cause of the higher temperatures in the Midwest.

PS: I ski, so I know how you feel.

That kinda makes sense. But an El Nino is an ocean thing. And we don't live very close to an ocean. And the rest of the United States I believe have had good temperatures. Like take Colorado, they still have been getting heaps of snow.

I was curious about that too, remember that not all of Colorado is covered in snow. The mountains can really change some of the weather coming in. El Nino also sometimes only effects certain parts of countries.

Here is a little outlook on what January's weather will hold with El Nino:

Yellow-orange is light warmer temperatures, orange is medium warmer temperatures, and red-orange are heavily warmer temperatures.

yeah the only snow i got this year (i live on long island, new york) was for like 3 minutes of a flurry on dec 4th but it didn't snow in madison square garden or sumthin so it didn't count. this has been the first december with no snow in over a century. but i see patterns in my winters. one year we get huge amounts of snow (up to 2 feet). the next year a few small flurries school might close once. the next year we get heavy snow again. maybe there are 2 parts to each season that has to do with the earth's revolution

El Nino is a global phenomenon. It will affect you no matter how far you are from an ocean.

I think it's hilarious how people are trying to use this year's unseasonably warm weather as "proof" that global warming exists. Global warming DOES exist, and there's a lot of proof out there (go see An Inconvenient Truth, which makes the info very accessible) - but this isn't part of it :P

Everybody hug and spread the love :D
