January 12, 200719 yr The practice should have been abolished from any culture hundreds of years ago. It denies freedom from both parties (man & woman). Even though in theory, either one can say 'no,' but it's likely not to translate in practice. This is probably one of my most extreme views, but I'm an advocate of 'love' as something that grows, not forced. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

I think it's cruel and an awful practice.
January 12, 200719 yr I'm with you, If my parents forced me to date someone whom they deemed "good" then forced me to marry her, well that would lead to me taking a very long "trip". January 12, 200719 yr Agreed. To hell with "tradition" of some cultures; I'd disown my family if they tried it on me.

January 12, 200719 yr Arranged marriage is the devil. Supermonk, proving you wrong since 1992. Supermonk rocks, I want to have his children.Music is like candy. You always get rid of the rapper.
January 12, 200719 yr I don't think forced marriage is right. I might go out with a girl if our parents set us up on a date, but I don't think it would work out since I'd rather be the one to find that special someone. If they tried to force me to marry her.. Let's just say I'll be somewhere tropical and I won't be giving out my address ;) Edit: Off topic.. 2300th post : Internet Marketing For Newbies

January 12, 200719 yr Religion is involved mind you. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Leave religion out of this thread, alls it does is make everyone heeing and hawing and each other... at the same time. January 12, 200719 yr Author What would do you do if I said [insert your religion] is barbaric? It was :) but like I said, this tends more to CULTURE rather than religion, so knock it off :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
January 12, 200719 yr I think what you need to take into consideration is that there isn't "the one". If there isn't "the one", it would mean that theoretically you could learn to be with anyone for the rest of your life.
January 12, 200719 yr I also agree. If someone arranged my marriage, I'd have to kill myself or something similar. :uhh:

January 12, 200719 yr If either the potential husband or wife dont want to marry then I completely agree, its barbaric to force people into marriage against their will. However, some people are in faour of doing it, so if thats is their choice then who are we to judge in my opinion. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
January 12, 200719 yr Although i don't agree with arranged marriage, i would never go calling it barbaric... Love is one of those freedoms people ideally should have, but if a culture finds arranged marriage as a way to do things, who are we to say its wrong? Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Well is it better to die? or to live for years with someone you hate? To die and never experience joy, and no one ever said they hated it. I like arranged marriage. Jesus ftw. But sometimes it's purely logical. I mean, you're a seventeen year old girl who's family can't afford food anymore, but a rich-as-hell guy takes an interest in you. Should you let your family die?
