cupcake
"Stuff" I'm going to be a game developer (going to school for it, ect.) Sure it doesn't revolve around playing games, but they are important to me. I've nothing against game development, which I think is a good thing (as long as you're going to be one of those folk who do it for fun and other such good reasons as opposed to money -- the bad reason for most games' development these days). I just don't agree with the people for whom playing games is their life -- to me they're fun things that one does in one's spare time. I see you are new to the MMORPG business
Parabola
I just don't agree with the people for whom playing games is their life -- to me they're fun things that one does in one's spare time. Precisely. I am not a 'gamer', just as others aren't 'tv-watchers'. Calling people 'gamers' only serves to ostracise them - as though playing games is something abnormal. The term 'gamer' should be reserved for those who waste their life on such diversions, similar to those who waste their life being constantly on drugs. Obviously I need to make money but my goal is to make a good game. :D . What I was trying to get across though that even just playing games is important to me. Its kind of like how a writer probaly will read a lot of books to get a general idea on different writing styles, ect. :) And its the same thing as someone calling themself a "football player" or a soccer player / ect. Not many make it to the "big times" and at the end its mostly just a hobby.
Parabola
and at the end its mostly just a hobby. ...That many people take far too seriously. A hobby which they invest far too much emotion in, and I'd say that about someone who watched soap operas religiously too.

assassin_696
People put plenty of emotion into sports and all other sorts of things too. What makes them different? Nothing, if you're obsessed with anything it's unhealthy. If we took that attitude then hardly any of the great achievements of mankind would have been achieved. Nad, I think your idea is great. Someone once told me, find something that you really enjoy doing, then get people to pay you good money for doing it. Then you'll never have to work a day in your life. If that's what you want to do then go for it! I don't feel threatened by gamer girls at all, in fact I think they're pretty cool. It's nice to see a bit of balance in what seems like a male dominated world. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
One Too Far
If they are playing a game such as the sims, for example, then I don't see anything wrong with it. It's a fun game that (I'll say Teens for the content)-Adults can play and enjoy of any gender... But like Shooters?? Like Call of Duty and other war games? It's just different. Awkward if I may say so myself. Girls don't tend to talk about Wars. Sometimes it's a bit awkward at first, and then other times it's fine. you wil be suprised how many got a pretty agressive natura if you get some of your female friends to play a war/fighting game they wil get totaly hookd they most of the time just are to afraid of getting bulied for playing ''guy games''

I'm not sure I agree with you there. My favourite games consist mainly of first person shooters, and trust me I have no issues with being afraid of being bullied for it, and I certainly don't see them as guy games. A game's a game at the end of the day, I don't see why guys are so intimidated when a girl can play computer games. It doesn't require some special secret knowledge only the male of the species understands. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.

honeo
There are two scenarios. Any girl that plays video games can be called a "Gamer Girl." 1. A girl is hanging out with the guys and just wants to learn how to play video games. Just be on of the guys for a bit, there is nothing wrong with that. The guys teach her to play, she usually is not that great on the first time shes tries, but it's not like she makes it a daily habit to play video games. 2. Then there are the girls that play video games daily. I am talking about Halo, Doom, GOW, COD, etc. These are the ones that really enjoy playing video games. They play on a daily basis and like to play them. Most girls like this I have seen actually own at video games. Maybe because they think better than guys. :ohnoes: Also, I do not have a problem with girls playing video games. Training my pure!
