Eeps, a ghost!

To begin with, I don't exactly beleive in ghosts, but at my work recently, there are many things that have happened that leat me to think that the place is haunted by someone(s).

I work in a movie theater. Medium sized theater with 11 screens, and the biggest theater holds barly 200 people. It also happens to be 20-30 years old.

Like all older places in a town, this place has ghost stories circulating about. One story is that the owners father committed suicide from a projectionst window on the new side of the theater. Another, an angry boyfriend strangled his girlfriend in the smallest of the old theaters. A final story tells of the bodies/body parts that are hidden all through the building in the hollow floors and walls(which actually exist).

Naturally, all these stories have variations, which make the building fun.

Now, I'm a projectionist. When I'm not schedualed to work, I come in by myself and clean the projection booths. There is noone else in the building, and there is only one entrance to where I am.

One morning around 5:00 am, I couldn't sleep, so I got up and went to work. I begin cleaning the platters of their oil, and as I walk from theater 1 to theater 2, I hear a girls voice behind me say "Trent"(my name) in a sad voice. I turn around expecting to see that the other projectionist snuck in behind me somehow, and was trying to scare me.

Nothing....

I decide to move to the better lit new ares of the building and finish off the day there.

Another time after previewing a movie, I watched as everyone left the building. After I locked the doors and made sure that everyone was gone, I go upstairs to shut everything off. I end up back downstairs getting ready to leave, and I hear loud, heavy footsteps above me.

Again, I'm the only person in the building, and this time, I'm the only person with keys to the upstairs that isn't a manager.

I stand downstairs listening to the walking, wondering if the alarms will trigger, and then I hear a sound of something(a body?) hitting the floor above me.

I've worked here long enough to know where sounds are coming from, and I know where all the motion sensors that activate the alarm are, and the sound seems to have came from right in front of one of them...

I decide the best thing to do is leave, and check in the morning, and of course, there is nothing there when I get back.

I do have a couple more stories, but I should head out for a bit. Before I do, have you ever gone to see a movie, and you were the first person to get into a theater? You know how unnerving it is to be in there in the dim lights walking past chairs? Try doing that at 2 am, in nearly complete dark except for your cell phone...

Now, share your ghost stories or beliefs in ghosts. If thise doesn't die, I'll come back and tell my other stories.

That is kind of eerie. Maybe since you have been hearing these ghost stories your thinking your hearing things. Something like a placebo effect.

Everything always has an explanation but usually people are too scared or just dont want to investigate the true reason for a situation.

There were times when I was little that hearning noises and seeing shadows really scared me but then i started to work out what it was. Id actually get up and investigate rather than cower under the covers. Almost everytime it was due to the wind mainly.

Youd be suprised how cold a room can get if its near to something like a bathroom with an open window. Because everything in a bathroom is tiles and shiney its always very cold and a draft coming through that can easily wisp around the house and send a chill down your spine. Noises, especially in old houses, can be easily explain by timber creaking. Shadows can be caused by anything from moonlight, streetlights to somebody walking down the street carrying a torch.

There was one time when I was young that I hears someone saying my last name. Sims, sims, sims. I got really scared and it got more and more rapid sssssssssims sssssssssssims. I got up, calms myself down and realise it was just my nose whistleing while I was breathing through it. ^_^

Another time I was in a "haunted house" and I felt something touch my neck. It was pretty eery stuff. Well... it was pretty eerly until it happened again when I was outside. Turns out the hood of my coat became crumpled while I was sat down and leaning on it and when I was stood up over time it became fluffled back up again and the furry bit was tickling the hairs on my neck ^_^

Imagination is a wonderful thing but it does play tricks on us and can give even the most skeptic of people a little scare every now and then but none of it is truely real.

I actually find it extremely likable 8-) If I'm watching a movie but didn't bring friends, the less people the better... I've actually watched a few movies where I was the only person in the audience at night.

I always find it enjoyable to go to the cinema and be one of less than a dozen people in there. So much better than it being chocker full of people and noisy kids trowing popcorn.

I'm very skeptical about the existence of ghosts. I used to believe in them but now I always try to find out what's cause the noise/shadows/ect. Examples..

A few months ago I was laying in bed and suddenly I heard my doorknob rattling. I had the door closed because the a/c was on and I wanted my window open. I was a little creeped out at first and as it continued. At the time I just put it out of my mind and went to sleep. Now I realise it was the wind coming in through my open window. Also, when I walk around in my room the doorknob rattles and I've figured out that it's because the floor in my room isn't as stable as the rest of the house and shakes when I walk on it.

Lately I've noticed my house creaks a lot more than I thought it did. The other night I was laying in bed and I heard the hallway floor creak. The creaking slowly got closer to my room (at the end of the hall). I couldn't hear footsteps but it sounded as if someone was quietly stepping towards my room. Being the over protective kind of guy I am, my first thought was that someone had broken in. I took off my ring and quietly set it down (it hurts to punch someone it a ring on). Then I turned on my lamp to a dim setting and quietly made my across my room and to the hall. There was nobody there. I checked my brother's room, the spare bedroom, the bathroom, and the stairs leading downstairs. There was nobody there so I went back to my room, put my ring back on, and turned the light off. Soon after I heard the floor creaking towards my room again. I repeated my steps as before and came up with the same results. Then the creaking started again. For the first time that night the idea of a ghost crossed my mind. I couldn't sleep so I laid in my bed for an hour listening. The sound had stopped not long after the idea of a ghost crossed my mind. So one more time I went and looked around, came back to my room, and heard the creaking coming towards my room again. Then I figured it out. It was the floor settling from where I had just walked. It started from I had been and moved towards where I was. After that I pretty much felt like an idiot..

I personally beleive in ghosts, for many reasons. I think one of them may just be that, I don't want real life to have a game-over button. Also when my grandad died, we went to his house and ended up sleeping there. He had this small music box that was always on the dining table and when we got there it was there, but when I went to sleep my dream was his ghost came to get it, and he picked it up and faded away. When I woke up I went to the dining room and the box was missing, and there was no signs of buglary. We never found the music box and that was two years ago.

That's how I feel. Once I thought I witnessed a ghost act when my strobe light blinked twice to music playing whilst it was not plugged in. But then I found a reasonably scientific answer for why that was, though I can barely recall that answer anymore, it was so long ago that I found it.

I believe in ghosts. The other night I was home alone and I had most of the lights off. I went into the kitchen and as I was about to turn on the light, I looked out the window. There was a white figure outside the window that looked sorta like a dog or a wolf. When I turned the lights on it disapeared... after that I was freaked out and didn't go near the windows until everyone got home. The wold thing was really freaky cause it looked like it was looking right at me. :ohnoes:

So a dog can just disapear in less than a second? Find me a dog that runs that fast and I'll believe you. Just so you know, it was in front of the bushes, so I would have seen it jump over them to get away.

The dog could have walked by, saw you standing at the window, so it looked at you. Then when you looked for the lightswitch it walked along. It takes at least half a second to reach a button, and in that time the animal could have walked further maybe 2 miles, still in your sight but you focussed on the point where it used to be

It could have been a reflection of something off the window. Do you have a dog? Because it could have been a reflection of your dog off the window and it looked like it was outside.

If you don't, then I have no clue what it was.

Personally, I love watching movies late at night. My perfect movie scenario is:

1. Late at night

2. Very dark in the theater

3. Barely any people, none is best

4. With my friends and girlfriend

I believe in ghosts. There have been some pretty frightening moments in my life which I think had to do with ghosts, and yours, misplacedme, seems a lot like a ghost to me. If I were you, I'd keep going to the theater and try to contact the ghost in any way. If something calls your name, answer it. Try to summon the ghost.

See what happens. 8-)

I had my hand on the light switch when I look up at the window and saw it. So it wouldn't have had any time to run off as I flipped the switch.

A few years back when I was still scared of ghosts I was in bed and I could hear this groaning drip drip sound. No matter how tightly i turned off the taps in the bathroom (its next to my bedroom) i could still hear it. It kept me up all night but I was able to co comfortably to sleep by putting my hand down the side of my bed and my dog would lick my hand. That made me feel better that I was not alone. Basically whenever i got scared in the night i would put my hand down and let my doggy lick my hand. Then one night must have been about 3am I heard this horrible moan sound following by this hard "drip drip" sound from the bath. I was really scared but put my hand down the side of the bed and got the comforting lick on my hand. I then soundly went to sleep. When I got up in the morning I went to go to the toilet and saw my dog dead in the bathtup with its neck cut, blood dripping out into the bath spelling the words "Ghosts can lick too!" arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I believe in highly improbable and sometimes slightly absurd things happening. But talking about the dead interacting in this world almost as if it's a statement of fact isn't possible.

As merc said, nearly always there's a scientific explanation behind it, and if there isn't something that we can define behind it that doesn't mean it won't someday be definable.

Never actually encountered anything supernatural, though I've had a few scares where once I was washing the dishes and there was a pot of soup boiling. I asked for someone to turn off the stove for me, but when I looked at the pot again the stove was off. Either I somehow turned it off and forgot about it or something did because I didn't hear anyone come up to turn the knob. <.<

Then of course you hear the random creaks, but our house is old. As far as I know, it's not haunted nor hampered by bad things. Plus you hear stories about how if a couple brings a baby with them to look at the house and the baby cries during the touring, then thehouse isn't good. I was a little over one when we moved into the house we live in now, and my parents said I seemed pretty happy while I slept in a large cardboard box as they were fixing up the place. :P

I've heard stories about the house across from me though where a woman supposedly died in there, but wasn't found until days afterward. Supposedly someone who lived in the house once saw her standing in the hallway. Supposedly is the keyword here. :uhh: I've only been in the house a few times as a child to visit the family who lived there before they moved, so I don't know if there are any spirits, though I'm not ready to completely doubt their existence.

I believe in ghosts. So far, I've known of two living in my family home, one of which was my Nan. She stayed with us for a few weeks after she died, communicating with us mainly through her clock. If there is a scientific explanation, I don't think I want to hear it. I'm quite happy with my beliefs.

Ah I have another story. My father told me this one about the house he grew up in. I'm sure he's told me this story more times than I can imagine :P

Before his parents moved into their house and old lady lived there. She died of natural causes (no murder or anything). So his parents moved in and as he grew up there, the old lady's ghost still lived there. She would open and close doors at random. And she wouldn't just open doors that could be pushed open, she would open doors that you had to turn the handle. My father said you could be walking down the hall and a door behind you would open/close or you could leave your door closed and come back a short time later and it would have opened (without any people going near it). I don't know how true the story is, but I thought it was interesting when he told me about it.
