Yawn, A Sleeping Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. For as long as I can remember it has taken many hours tossing and turning in my bed to finally get to sleep.

It get's annoying because I wake up in the morning to go to school sometimes and I'm very tired and find it hard to concentrate. And so everyone knows, I have tried going to sleep earlier and it doesn't work.

I think what might be the reason for this is that I heat up very easily. In winter I wear barely anything, and have the fan right next to my bed. If I turn the fan off I heat up and have to sleep without a sheet or anything and I still heat up.

The Purpose of this thread :?: Discuss methods on how you get to sleep easier, Share Stories about consequences that have arrised from over/undersleeping and discussing sleeping. If it helps to solve any of my problems, I'm 13.

Remember to keep it appropriate and to the topic. I don't want my thread locked :)

Thanks Everyone

~Ben

As for the heating: I have it too but not as bad as you. I have it all the time though. I could walk in 5 degrees C in a T-shirt and not feel cold..

According to my gf I just radiate a lot of heat (and that's just literally, not going into other stuff on this board). No idea howcome. But I get too warm really easily.

Try to breathe in a regular and deep pattern. In..out...etc. It kind of helps me. As for the heating problem, I use a fan and it works for me.

This may sound stupid but meh, i've had sleeping problems too and it sucks.

Personally I can't sleep, if I haven't done enough that day (in terms of physical activities). I can always predict whether I can sleep or not. If I haven't done something like that for at least an hour I can't sleep.

Maybe this works for other people too.

I personally prefer to nap for an hour, wake up, do something - and repeat that for a few hours.

Sleeping for 9 hours, that's like a third of your life gone if you sleep that long everyday. And i can't do it, it just doesn't seem right...

The only time I sleep solid is when I'm ill or hungover.

As for trouble gettng to sleep, try doing some excercise just before you try to sleep, failing that, just stay awake and do something constructive!

These are my tips:

- Get in a sleep routine. Always sleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time.

- Try to only use your bed for sleeping, not for watching TV in or playing computer games in (I'll allow some fun with the gf though... :P ).

- If you do wake up half way through the night, just tell yourself that this isn't the time to wake up, and you've got another x hours to either sleep or just lay there being bored, so you might as well just get on with sleeping. Don't give in and get up and do something.

- Possibly read for half an hour before going to bed to tire your eyes out, and take your mind off what you did that day. Don't watch TV or a DVD, because this is a mindless activity that won't tire you out (your brain is less active while watching TV than it is while you're asleep.)

- Try not to have random naps during the day, unless you have a routine and always nap for half an hour after lunch or something.

- One strategy that has recently been discovered is to say the word 'now' at random intervals, i.e. "now... now...... now... now... now..now.......now". The human brain isn't very good at being random, and needs to concentrate to do it properly. This will interrupt any thought patterns that you have.

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

Grr...I have bad sleeping problems sometimes. I don't think I heat up, but I just don't get to sleep that easily. Many times, I'm so bored at night tossing and turning that I walk over to my computer at 1:00 AM and use Tip.It...

(On a school night.) On a non-school night, it's up 'till 4:00 AM! :P

Luckily I am Aneamic so I fall asleep/get tired easily. Waking up early makes you sleep easier at night.

I hate it when your biological clock is off, that's the worse.

Usually I try a meditating session right before bed. I'm still practicing to get it perfect, but for now it's fine. It helps me relax enough that I can just lay in bed and usually fall asleep a few minutes later.

Also, sometimes soft music on my iPod is good too. But I can't go to sleep with music playing.

Supposedly the smell of lavender makes you sleepy, and I'm going to try it again soon. The routine is a good idea, and if you usually excercise a lot in one day, but you don't, then it's going to be hard to sleep.

A while back I was having more difficulty sleeping. I really find soft ear plugs help, along with deep breathing. Soft earplugs, I think, helped most because they amplified the hearing of my own breathe over other things.

Another that helped me was trying out a trial for a program, the music was called "energizer nap" and I just edited out the beep in the end with audacity designed to wake you back up [nap] so i continued sleeping. It was pretty relaxing.

I believe, but am not sure, that the company i got the tracks was Pzizz, http://www.pzizz.com, but they don't seem to have the same 30 minute track that i had. They do have several 15 minute tracks for listening though. If anyone knows how, I can upload the trial track i found [somewhere]. It is perfectly intended though to be used as trial [the track]
