Job Applications.

So today I mailed a job application to my local Barnes & Noble. How long should it take for a prospective employer to get back to me?
If they got a position open; and you're the best canidate - no idea.

They usually won't get back to you, if an applyee (is that the word?) really wants it, they'll call back. I've had 2 jobs and that's how it worked out anyway, they never called back but once I called them I was in. Maybe B&N is different than fast food though.

Give them a week, then call them to ask how your application is progressing and if they'd like you to come for an interview. Annoy them, they'll mistake it for dedication.

Depends on what kind of company. I filled out applications at a lot of places, and they never contacted me again. Last week I sent out a resume to a company, and they got back to me the next day (a resounding no, they went as far as to say not only was I not good enough for the spot I was applying for, but I wouldn't have a spot anywhere in their company :o ).

How evil :| May I ask what company that was? Or if it's not a well-known one, what it does?

How do you come up with these awesome responses? Teach me your ways.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but +1.

What's wrong with his post? No one here really knows. Basically everyone is just saying to call back after about a week.

How can you not believe you're doing the +1 thing? You used to do it all the time.

Try talking to one of the managers just to see if they are really trying to hire.

Proctor and Gamble, I did make it sound a little worse than it was. That's basically what they were saying, just more politely :P .

Fun fact: Cincinnati (where I live) at one time had more millionaires per capita than any other city in the US because of a massive forced retirement spree from P&G. Something with their pensions pushed a lot of people into being millionaires as soon as that happened.

I got an email from P&M once about making a little flash game for them. Nothing ever came of it in the end tho :(
