Makoto_the_Phoenix
To me it sounds like sheer boredom. Nothing wrong with that. "No-lifing", or its better and more appropriate term, "obsession", is a serious issue. As long as you know you're not obsessed (meaning you stay up late nights getting levels), then you're fine. Then again, everyone defines obsession and no-lifing differently. Personally I don't think that what you described comes even close; you have some free time out of your normally busy schedule and you'd like to spend it playing RuneScape. Go for it. Dogman112018
I play runescape about 2 hours a day, sometimes more on weekends, and just because i have a couple good stats(to me anyway : ) ppl call me a no-lifer. For example, a kid I know said i had no life and spent all my time on rs. Then he himself goes on these forums for like 5 hours a day,or any minute of free time he has. And I have no life? :notalk: :shame: . I go and play baseball for 3-4 hours a day, go to sports games with my mates, and hang out with my family. Runescape is like my cool-down time, a period when i can relax, and just have fun. I think the only reason we are called no-lifers at times is because some people are jealous of us, cause thats what they want to be. Remember that kid earlier in my post? He's only a lvl 25 at the most. AND if he had his own computer, he knows he would be on it every second of the day. My other friend plays for about 8 hours a day when he has no homework, but thats because he lives five miles away from any civilization WHATSOEVER (except for the cute little woodland creatures ). Needless to say this was extremely unpopular and was one of the things dumped for RS2. Resting took about 20 seconds to do. and time limits in games a horrible ideas. You shouldn't dicate (you shouldn't have to dictate) how long someone can play for. Jagex is not a parrent. A no-lifer is someone who spends so much time on the computer playing games, chatting on irc, whatever, that they neglect basic personal needs. I remember an episode of X-files where there was a person who had two thermoses next to his computer, one for input, the other for output, so he wouldn't have to leave his keyboard. That is a no-lifer. If you can stop to shower, and your diet is not normally Cheetos and Mt. Dew, you're probably ok. A nerd is someone who displays intelligence and shows an enthusiasm for just about anything but sports (cheerleading is included in this, showing enthusiasm for cheerleaders is not). i.e. comics, computer games, books, science, history, tabletop gaming, etc... If, however, you are a sports enthusiast who also likes some of these other topics, you're ok, just a little strange. Band geeks and Theater people tend to fall into their own groups and usually prefer it that way. :? .
supra_shadow_red333
In my opinion if you play a lot and have nothing better to do at the time it does not mean you have no life or a nerd (what̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s better doing something you enjoy or sitting around/walking around mindlessly all the time being bored silly?) it just means your not stupid enough to drive your self to suicide because of boredom. But in saying that if you begin to put a game ahead of friends/family/work or other real life values then you̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re playing too much and or your addicted. There is no such thing as doing to much of something you like. but there is such a thing as losing every thing for something that has no real meaning apart from fun. Edit: I wanted to add this before but i forgot to. Words of wisdom: Do not base your life on others peoples views, if some body does'nt like the way you live and or what you do there not worth knowing. There is no reason to give up something you love for some one who will judge you. The only thing that your life should be based on is a good natured and fair attitude. btw yes this can be applyed to the way you play rs (to those who cannot 2 and 2 together)

As for this thread's topic- I believe that to be a no-lifer you would have to completely disregard everything except for, in this case, Runescape. If you will still do what any human being needs to do or will still hang out with friends if they happen to ask you to, then it is simply boredom. I am one of these who will leave the computer at a moment's notice, but when nothing else is planned, I'm online. I would normally go outside and play some street hockey or something but my knee has been acting up lately.
time2quit
fatigue just stopped you gaining experience, anyone remember sleeping bags? and finding beds lol, good times... But to me, late nighting is not no-life, because of what i do, job/social life/a-levels i occasionally find myself free atlike 9 - 12pm maybe just wanting to cool down, so i rc etc on rs. I would say though if you suspended your life, told your friends 'no sorry im busy tonight' when all you wanted to do is rs, then you've got isues... But other than that its fine, i like to play rs how i like and when i like, and imo Jagex should not tell me stop playing now, thats my call. Oh and with the xp, for rcign that doesnt really matter for me :) as all i get is about 10k-12k xp an hour doing nats tops, but yet earn 300k (400k less ess..) Rock Hard
'No-Lifeing' is a label others may apply to you. The same goes for 'Nerd', 'Geek', 'Jock', 'Townie', 'Mosher' and even 'Prime Minister'. The trick to dealing with these labels is to remember that only YOU can define who you really are. [That sounded wrong, I don't believe in 'self empowerment', I believe our 'selves' are infinitely floored, my point is that others are floored also - And as such their words should have no bearing on how we see ourselves] Don't worry. Play when you want to play. For however long you want to play. Just don't sacrifice RL for a fantasy world. You posted this topic, so i'm sure you have a decent quantity of common sense. What do YOU think? If you think you've spend too much time playing - Stop playing. If you think you should study, go study. No work today? Go play. As for the Virtual games, Vs Physical games theme, i can see little difference. Different stimulus, same goal - Entertainment. That's all. I am so unbelievably glad that I outgrew teenagerhood and do not have to derive my personality from a group or be pinned down into one by others :-s. Heh, do you honestly think Adulthood holds less stereotypes and preconceptions that Teenagerhood? Perhap's the prejudice's are more hidden - But doesn't that just make them all the more insidious? ;) - Gid. Edit: Why isn't my quote working? Grr. Erk02
Of course, no-life is totally a matter of interest. If you find RS to be the most exhilarating experience ever, then you shouldn't be ashamed of being different. Also, people who have mental/physical/psychological disorders and have trouble making friends should be allowed to play RS rather than be made fun of in RL. I do English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation for free! Just keep it under 5 sentences, and PM me to use my fluency in Japanese to your advantage! runescapeloser22
It depends, if you blow off things in real life like meeting with friends, going to the movies, playing outside, ect. then I'd consider you a No-Lifer :P If all your friends are away, its raining or bad weather outside, you've seen all the movies out/you aren't interested in any, ect. then you're bored :D Pretty simple really :-k

Gin_and_Tonic
Wow, i didn't even know this thread was still on the first page. My parents go away tomorrow for about 8 days, so i'll be playing Runescape a little more than often. Out of 8 days, im seeing my girlfriend for 3, my best mate for two, and then i'll probably play about 6-7 hours a night, and maybe a little more after school when i dont have commitments... I mean, i've nothing else to do... Weathers uneasy, badmintons off, i have no means of transport and im seeing my friends for 5 out of the 8 days... Since i've made this thread i've realised its probably impossible to find a universal definition or a nerb, but many people seem to make the same conclusion about a no-lifer... 'Neglects friends/basic needs/life etc...'. This is interesting, as you seem to have a lot more vidid defintions of a no-lifer. I used to think i no-life when i played nearly 5 hours a day for about a month, even with all the social things i do on the side... Its nice to know i was'nt 'no lifing'. :anxious:

hybrid2hell
Ah, I always love looking at your topics and replies. You almost always make a very good point about something. I agree, there is really no such thing as a no lifer. And as for people who call others no lifers, here is an answer to you. It is their life, they will do what they want. You have no control over that. But yeah, i agree with basically everything you said in the first post I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames. nerdattack16
I don't like how a lot of people use the word "nerd" as an insult. To me, I think that what most people believe to be "nerds" are more of "geeky social outcasts"... I'm a nerd at heart, yet not only play RuneScape, but do all sorts of other stuff. I think though, that if you were to pick me out of a crowd, I'd be the least-looking nerdy guy there. The same with all of my nerdy friends. We all look non-nerdy... hmmm. But I digress. My idea of a "no-lifer"... well, we'll take it in RuneScape terms, of course. Someone who perhaps comes home straight from school, and immediately logs on, stopping only for meals and bathroom breaks. Oh, and sleep, if it comes around. In summer, I played 4+ hours a day, yet I still went out with friends, worked, and... worked... and worked... You get the idea. I guess a "no-lifer" would be someone that eats, breathes, sleeps, and most importantly PLAYS RuneScape. A lot. Too much. Way too much. True, but most nerds are socially delayed, weak in stature, and whell, just look and talk funny. Atleast, the nerds on our school look like that. Hmm. Well, I'm not socially delayed at all. I'm not exactly a big, strong guy, but I can hold my own in a tussle if it comes to that; it rarely does though, I sarcasm my way out of fights. :P And I don't look funny, except for my odd tan from band camp. I talk a little oddly, with the vocabulary I use, and the speech impediment that never really got cured. But I'm a weird person. :P Guess what I'm trying to say is... I don't like your definition of "nerd", Mico. Forgive me if I come off as a flamer though; I'm not trying to. :) Us nerds are actually cooler than the so-called "cool kids"... they just think they're the cool ones. :| Just don't sacrifice RL for a fantasy world. And my vocabulary, when I can't think of "layman's terms," annoys the crap out of my friends ("What the heck does 'serendipitous' mean?") Oh yeah, and I've won the school spelling bee twice, the zone once (that's 1st place  ). That's why irony kicks in if I misspelled "serendipitous" up there. Mico
OK ok, so I see that I actually have to learn what a nerd is. Actually, I still don' t know, so many types :wall: . And why do most people have Tae Kwon Do (or something), Karate or Judo black belts. Were are boxers? I' ve home trained boxinf since my 7nt age. My father' s friend is a proffesional boxer, he taught me everything. Man, you know how good it feels to use a boxing knock out? WHAM and he' s down. In a ring ofcourse, outside is illegal. But, ftw martial arts :D . On topic, whell, someone calling you a nerd is mostly out of immaturity or envy. Just be proud, you' re better than him. But please don' t call me a nerd. I may like mathematics, phisics astronomy and mithology, but I' m no A student.
