WHY can we not speak on tutorial island? It makes no sense!

Featured Replies

I remember some time ago we could say things on tutorial island. Now we can't. The reason for that being..?!

Think about it. It makes all the sense in the world to let newcomers communicate when the first enter the game. Sure, they can learn to talk on the mainland, but until then, the chat box is spamed with random garbage as newcomers try out the system and see what happends.

New Person: sghjaghsdfjghasd

You: What are you doing?

New Person: 343434343376464'';l

You: Stop spamming!

New Person: Oh, ok, you can just type stuff just like that

New Person: And then you hit enter

You: Don't you already know this stuff?

New Person: ...No, because Jagex made it so newcomers like myself couldn't talk on the island. That's the reason why you see the chat box being filled with random text, because I haven't learned to chat the way I should on tutorial. I've been a social outcast until this point, and I've never had the chance to communicate with the other newcomers while I was on the island.

You: Ah...

My arguments are these three simple points:

One People can learn the chat mechanics early, in the tollerent presence of other similar-minded newcomers.

Two If someone simply can't understand what the NPC's on the island are saying, then a fellow scaper can help them work it out.

Three Why in the world not?

I remember being able to talk on tut island, but you could only see yourself talk and no one else. You can, though, private message, but you still cannot recieve messages.

It's kind of true. You can type stuff. You can hit enter. The words will appear above you. But no one else can see it. Therefore, you can spam your head off and no one will know.

This wouldn't have a downside, except possibly mass spamming on tutorial island, which could be prevented by teaching newcomers about the rules earlier. I support.

I think one of the reasons they dont have talking on tutorial island is then you could ask for help. I think they want it to be more of an independant thing so you can learn the basics on your own.

It could be after the core things had been done. It wouldn't necessarily have to be active right when you first start the island. Maybe halfway through or so, there could be a speech adviser.

On another point: I created a new account, and I tried talking throughout the island. I couldn't. I'll believe that it's possible to talk there if I get a screen.

Supports. But a newcomer using the term 'social outcast' is unrealistic. But we get the point. : D

Do you have a better phrase we could use then? I'm 'drawing a blank' right now on a better phrase. :(

I never did a tutorial island when I started playing, because there was none, so no real experience on that.

But it might help a little bit, so I'll support this one. ::'

You can't abuse report on tutorial island, thus you get unbannable people who are:

website spammers

+

People who tell others to do the wrong thing.

I don't see your example happening ever actually :-s
