Giving blood - do you?

Simple - Have you given blood before?

If yes - Regularly? Why do you give it?

If no - Why not?

Tomorrow, well actually today technically since it's 01:00, I shall be giving blood for the first time. I'm a fit and healthy teenager (yeah...good one...) who is the right age to give blood.

We had a rather interesting talk at school yesterday about giving blood and I have always said if the opportunity arose I would take it. During the talk some shocking facts were given about the levels of blood needed everyday in the country (Scotland) and how little they receive. I won't bore you with the facts, but let's just say they're in dire need of blood constantly.

I don't see any reason not to, of course there are things like haemophobia, but people seem to be rather scared about the whole process. Anyone I ask about it goes " Aye right you won't get me near a needle!" but i think this is something everyone just uses as an almost excuse, and just assumes it will hurt. You never know when your next going to wind up in the emergency room needing someone else's blood to save your life.

Well anyway, what's your view on giving blood?

I'll post back after I've had it done and how it felt.

Most people only start to regularly donate if something happens to a relative and they need blood.

Here, the rules for donating blood are pretty tough, can't have gone overseas (except to NZ) for something like 5 years, can't have had a tattoo in 5 years plus a few other things. I do donate, but not that often. Maybe once every 6 months.

No. I'm old enough, but I'm terrified of needles in the area where they draw blood from, don't know the name of it.. Elbow? :S If it was somewhere else, I would... But not there >.<

Reading anything about blood and needles makes me feel sick..

I don't. I really need all the blood I have, I have a history of low blood pressure and fainting, so it just wouldn't be the smartest move. Whenever I need to let the doctor take blood, I almost pass out as well...

Otherwise, I'd do it, even though it would mean getting over the sickish feeling I always get in the pit of my stomach when having blood 'drained'.

Just back from the health center.

I went through all the rather embarrassing questions, done the iron blood test and then got weighed. Turns out im just too underweight to give blood :(

I'm not exactly a size nothing, scrawny model you see on Tv, just have a rather small build. Oh well, maybe in a year or so.

That's too bad wizard.

I would love to give blood, went once. Got tested, weighed and all that jazz and just in passing mentioned that I'd had skin cancer.

Apparently that means i can't give blood, which is a shame :(
