Chubbysanta
I've been playing runescape for sometime now, almost four years. In that time i've had two accounts banned, two forgotten and the one I have right now. Recently i've been having a thinking stage, asking too many questions, and not getting enough answers. Yesterday I ran into a group of players, or they ran into me, at catherby. Fresh from free world they had just received there membership, and were lingering around the fishing spots, causing trouble. Offending older players, with comments such as "pixel hugger" and "pixel lovers". So I politely asked them to stop. You'd have thought id asked them to give up there passwords and hand over there money! I was followed and abused for half an hour, until I broke my tome of silence. I asked them why they played the game? Was it because they enjoy having more power than they do in real life? No. Apparently they joined members to shout at some "obsessed noobs". I pondered their comments...was I obsessed? Hopefully not, but it made me unhappy for a while. So I decided to ask some people why they play, what reasons and etc. One day a "famous" person answered me. He played because he enjoyed the challenge, meeting friends and generally helping people out. The last comment surprised me. He continued saying that if half the players helped someone each day, the community would become much more tight knit and more enjoyable-much like the days of classic. So ask yourself today- why do you play, and who have you helped? thanks :D I Quit. You should too.
Celt23
Just ignore people like that. I play for fun. I've helped players countless times, wether it's a question about a part of the Hero's Quest, doing a favor so a friend could complete a quest faster, lending items, giving directions, 'covering' players during a part of a quest (e.g covering a skiller so he doesn't get one hitted in the tunnel in Shilo Village), finding out if there's anyone outside of the Mage Arena lobby and lots more. vixjade
I play for a few reasons: Escapism, it is great after an awful day at work to get home, cook tea and then 'escape' for a few hours. For the challenge, I set myself targets and strive to meet them - last night it was to get to 44 runecrafting. It was achieved :D Quests, it forces my brain to work just that bit harder! Helping people, often just give stuff away as in game money to me has no real importance & I own everything I need. Meeting new people, always happy to chat. And pure and simple fun, when it stops being fun I log out and do something else. I will try again later when my patience has returned. I do not understand the 'catherby' type players that just want to argue and flame about this that and everything else (inflating there lil ego's with 'big' talk) - Thankfully I do not have to endure them anymore - Monkfishing FTW! Kingtrebor
I play for fun aswell, if a person asks me for help and I can help him and I have the time to help him. I will most definitely help this person. Because when you want help, you love to see someone help you  Edit: just helped someone 8-)

idontknow4000
When you ask questions like why do I play you can answer them with another Why not? It funny, exiting and interesting. You dont have to be a goody two shoes all the time and help everyone but at one time I was rich (Poor now :( ) after doing much mining and having loads left over from my house and I decided to help a few unfortunate people who had died so i given 2k to everyone who appeared in lumbridge and died it made me feel good and it probeblly made the players think maybe Runescape isnt full of Lurer and PKs and just plain evil people  . Runescape is a non-stop adventure, please dont give up  .

mikehild
If this game wasn't fun, I wouldn't be playing it. I play purely for fun. Even though I do have friends on runescape, they aren't the reason I play.
revanlives
He's right about how we should help people more often. Right now, I'm going for 99 agility at ape atoll, and there are a ton of people who wander by lost and confused. I am proud to say I have helped every person who has come by there. garrett1415
Wow! I have really never asked myself that. I play to meet new people, and my character is the exact opposite of me. I help new players and I never ask for money from them. Some people need things the offer to pay but i give it for free. Like the other day, some guy was buying ring of dueling. I had one he offered 365 gp, i said no, free. Its makes me feel so good to help people. And i agree, people need to help others more often.

brave
I play for relaxation. Its good to come home after a stressful day at work and lose myself in the fantasy that is RuneScape. I do agree that the community is not very good, but I do my part to improve it whenever I can. I will help people who ask for help, and as someone above (can;t remember who), I will help people with quests by guarding them in dangerous places, if they need that help. I also, when the mood takes me, give away free stuf to those I feel deserve it (but NEVER to anyone who asks for free stuff). I fact, I surprised someone this evening by giving them, totally unexpected. a full set of Rune as I knew the amount he offered me was his total wealth.. The cries of surprise, and the number of times he said "Are you sure?" and "Tyvm" were music to my ears. I know I will never get ruch (gp wise), but I am rich in the knowledge that I have done my little bit to help the community
