Main Forum Page Clutter (Moderator lists)

Recommended Posts

Every time one opens the index, a vast list of moderators is observed- mind you, these are forum-specific. Some have been extended to two lines, due to their vastness- some span multiple color ranges... The vast list of moderators (forum-specific), leads to unnecessary clutter, and does appear to be a nuisance.... Perhaps the list of moderators for each section ought to be posted as a sticky/announcement in that thread, with a compilation of all in another? That would greatly simplify matters, not to mention make the index page more navigable, and be more of an index...

It is possible to turn it off on the front page and ONLY have it visible at the top of the forum when you click on it. I've actually heard a lot of complaints about the moderators appearing on the front page and am actually surprised that it hasn't been changed. It would be nice if we could get it turned off.

Why not just have a thread which lists the forum's moderators? That would simplify things, and it's not link everyone needs to contact a mod all the time....

We don't need a thread because the moderators are listed at the top of the forum page (example: viewforum.php?f=30 ).

As I said before, all that needs to be done is turn off the moderator lists on the forum index.

Agreed. How it was on the previous PHPBB software looked good. The presentation of the Main page would look much better.

It would make sense to remove just the global moderators and administrators from the lists of moderators on each page. Back when those people were local moderators, they needed to be listed (since they couldnt mod all forums) but since global moderators and administrators can moderate all of the forums, you could probably take their names off and just leave the local moderators of a forum, and list administrators and global moderators as a group. It would say the same thing, and clean up the list a bit.

People are still individually listed because that's their "expertise forum" so to speak. They are still listed so someone can contact them if they have a question, problem, comment or concern regarding that forum.

They're gone now, either the Admins are fiddling or they saw this and made it happen.

I guess they were fiddling... :|

But they do indeed make the forums look ugly, and the colours don't match every skin.

I like Tripsis's idea though, of how it was before, in phpbb2. That was quite a nice way to have it.

I think the leave it off in the Index, but on in the individual forums is best. Then you know if you need to know, but you don't have all the clutter of names in the index.

I'd like to throw in my two cents as well, and say that having them on the top of the forum when you are looking at it is all that is needed. Having them on the index is unnecassary in my eyes.

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

Since it has been implemented into the forum, I find that the page is not stretched as much, and it loads slightly quicker.

Good job Tip.It ::'

EDIT: They added them back -.-

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I do like it though for easy access to PM people :P

Me too. Leave the names on the index already! :x

Just to let you all know this is being discussed. I am neutral on the decission don't matter either way to me. I really do not see the harm on leaving it the way it is or going back to the old style. Either way works fine with me. :|

Madam Admin QueenValerie, your personal choice in emotes has said more from your mind than you realize. :-k ... I would hope that, if Admin/Moderator names do get to remain on the index, the names displayed of those who primarily maintain those forums would NEVER be cursed with the equivalent of "PM Spam"... ::' ... Of course, this IS assuming a near-ideal environment here on the forums. :?

Update guys! ;)

At this time it will remain the way it is showing now reason being it looks like removing mods from the index would also remove the mods from subforums within the main forums as well. That's not what we want but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to differentiate between it displaying a forum or a subforum in the template.

P.S. Mr. D_V_ Devnull your posts confuse me at times for the life of me I can not make out what you were trying to say. :ohnoes:

Darn. :( ... Good luck in finding a solution. :)

Honestly, I am extremely sorry that I confused you. Please, read this nifty little 'disclaimer/warning' that I typed out...

... and then read my last post here again. (Something happened before the rollback, I'm not going to mention what, but I learned my lesson, only to discover that I might need the 'disclaimer/warning' that I typed out.) I meant what I said in my post in a very literal sense, taking into thought that your selection of the " :| " emote might refer to worry of some kind.

Who knows, maybe I just read a little much into things sometimes. ... Pardon me while I step aside, before my brain overloads. :-#
