Ragen
For a few months now, I have been very interested in Dream Theater. A few weeks ago I bought the Change of Seasons and Octavarium albums. The title tracks for these two CD's have since been playing pretty much non-stop. They are both more than twenty minutes long and tell a story. I was wondering if there are anymore songs out there simular to this. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! Pete_the_Viscous
Not that a song's "epic" status is decided by length... but look here for a list of songs over 15 minutes long. The album "Be" by Pain of Salvation (if considered as a whole) is sort of similar. It depends whether or not it needs to be that genre of music, really. If not, then I'd reccomend Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick... and I can't actually think of anything else at the moment, sorry. deviantart account
Mercifull
Epic songs or albums? The Ayreon albums are good if you want to follow a story with your music. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. Pete_the_Viscous
Oh, and if you've not got them, perhaps Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory, also by Dream Theater. But they're split into different tracks (although the latter is certainly a story). deviantart account
Bubsa
You can't beat classical music for this sort of stuff. None more so than Nessun Dorma This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
Necromagus
You could also get some Haggard albums if you're going for the 'epic' sound. Although their longest song is 'only' nine and a half minutes long, the albums as a whole do tell a story though... Off the top of my head: After Forever - Invisible Circles Aina - Days of Rising Doom: The Metal Opera Avantasia - The Metal Opera Avantasia - The Metal Opera, Part II Ayreon - The Final Experiment Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle Ayreon - The Universal Migrator, Part 1: The Dream Sequencer Ayreon - The Universal Migrator, Part 2: Flight of the Migrator Ayreon - The Human Equation Haggard - And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer Haggard - Awakening the Centuries Haggard - Eppur Si Muove These are all albums that tell a story... My Tip.It Times Articles (10 and counting) || The Varrock Library Author Index projectDo you dare to dream? - Part 19 added. || The Hospital (WIP) - New story!Necromagus looks like a viking ... with glasses. Lateralus
Rush - 2112 Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond Tool - Third Eye Tool - Wings for Marie/10,000 Days Deep Purple - Child in Time I just posted according to what I think your definition of 'epic' is. There's alot of songs that are epic to me, because of what I connect them to or how they make me feel, but they might only be 5 minutes long. La lune ne garde aucune rancune. apinagez
I consider Pink Floyd - Time epic. It feels just like Shine On You Crazy Diamond, just for a shortest period. I agree with Lateralus, epicness isn't about the lenght of the song, but about how it feels. ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me

GordanFreeman
Kansas' songs The Wall and The Pinnacle have an epic feel to them, they're both around 6-8 min. long and they tell a story with great music...also as before mentioned, if you like longer songs deffinitely Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull. adthegreat-
Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution - Here's to life. Really like it, and if i had to describe it, it would be 'a journey'. The song was originally done by Streetlight Manifesto (i think), but as you may have guessed it is done acoustically by the Bandits, which i think adds to the epic'ness. Off Topic: If anyone knows, if a band gives express permission to distribute their music freely, would i be aloud to post links to the music, or is it still illegal? It's just that this band alows their music to be shared for free, but their site is no longer working properly to my knowledge.

Miluion
Oh man! Get Symphony X - The Odyssey (the song) Or you can get the whole album, but the song is 24 minutes long and tells a story; it's great. Honestly, I like Symphony X more than Dream Theater. Also, you can try Estatic Fear - Somnium Obmutum, which is 32 minutes. It's Doom Metal though, and I dunno if you like that. Amazing lyrics in both of these songs.

assassin_696
Just seen Apocalypse Now? :P Gotta love that scene :D Epic music? A lot of Pink Floyd stuff, Echoes, Wish You Were Here etc. I've always considered Stairway to Heaven to be reasonably epic. If you want storytelling in your music, it's not long but rock opera classics such as Tommy by The Who or The Wall by Pink Floyd are always safe bets. apinagez
Just seen Apocalypse Now? :P Never watched the movie and the song still gives me this feeling. :P Assassin: The only problem with Stairway to Heaven is that it has been overplayed. It's indeed a good song, but the fact it's considered THE song makes it ewwish. :P ^The most disturbing signature on Tip.it^Last.fm|HELLY KAYLA!|Oh the mehagurtz!|#Siencemakers"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart"apinagez... let me
blushenka
I'll add 'Beethoven's last night" by Trans Siberian Orchestra. "Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict." Nadril
Sonata Arctica - White pearl, black oceans. That one is fairly 'epic'. It's only 7minutes long or so, but it tells a story. Sonata Arctica - The end of this chapter. That one tells one too, well, not as much as white pearl, black ocean. Still a good song though :XD: .
