Read about this in several places, thoughts?

Skyrim online would be fairly cool, but dealing with lag etc would be a huge problem.

Check it out, huge amount of effort has gone into this massive mod!

We knew it was coming for ages and ages, but Bethesda said, "No, it's <another game>!"

To be honest, the Elder Scrolls universe is rich with lores and histories that it could be TRULY amazing. However, given the slow-but-steady decline in...let's say "quality" of structure, I remain only cautiously optimistic.

Gotta agree with this. Skyrim was awesome in some ways but crappy in others. Should be very interesting to see how an MMO goes..

Oddly enough, we recently had a discussion about a Skyrim type mmo in one of the mod chats (with Mod Daezhun who is a huge moo person and all around awesome guy). The concensus from that was that while it would be really awesome to be able to be able to play co-op, it would make a very terrible mmo. I'll have to take a look at this later to see if it would actually make a nice mmo (because I assume they are going to restructure the game a bit to make it viable for this kind of game play).

I guess what gets me is that asusming the other elder scrolls are at least similar in game play mechanics to Skyrim, they are really single player games, and a terrible platform for a multiplayer environment (beyond co-op play). The leveling system, and the quests would need to be reworked for sure.

This. While the idea sounds nice, they just aren't multiplayer games.

I was excited at first, but after reading into the articles and finding out that it is confirmed to be just another hotbar styled MMO; I quickly lost interest. No thank you. I wanted a TES MMO, not another generic MMO with a franchise's name slapped on it.

No interest in MMOs, when I first heard about this I didn't even bother looking it up to see if it was real or not. When my cousin mentioned it later I thought about it, maybe they would do it well, but then he mentioned later it would be like a normal MMO just Elder Scrolls universe. [bleep] that. There are a few ways they could make an awesome Elder Scrolls MMO but they wouldn't be economically viable (only a few people like me would like them). What they could do is make an Elder Scrolls game co-op, that would be [bleep]ing awesome.

According to Neogaf, this will look and play like a normal wow style mmo, and nothing like a TES game. I will not hype myself for this one, it just seems half-assed and without anything that made TES great.

That's very disappointing. Opening up TES to co-op or party-style play would be great, but make it an MMO and it'll be just another interesting IP suffocating under WoW's market/gameplay dominance.

Hopefully they won't stop making actual Elder Scrolls games after this.

I've heard it will encompass the whole continent, which actually worries me. Mainly, will it mean new TES games have to conform in some way to their map, and the same goes for their lore.

I haven't read anything into it yet, but it definitely sparked my interest, but after reading what's been posted, I can't say I am as interest as I once was. If they're going to change the style of gameplay, they should change the name of the game.

I also agree, if they added a co-op/ 4 person party mode, that would make the game so much more epic.

This was exciting news until I found out what it actually was. <_< Can we assume work on TES VI is going to be put on hold now?

I'd hope not, however I am still waiting with baited breath for Warcraft 4.

What? We know next to nothing about it so far, so how can you say bad execution?

It's got nothing to do with TES apart from IP?

Look at it, it uses the same engine that bioware used for star wars TOR for goodness sake.

Its trying to cut a slice of WoW's market, thats' not going to happen? WoW does WoW already, and it does WoW very well. For a new MMORPG to be worth playing it will have to do something significantly different to WoW - Like GW2 or D3. Or it will end up in the graveyard with LOTR online, WAR and the likes.

That article is pretty much all a load of opinionated crap. very little of it is based around actual information we have on the game. The author even says he dislikes MMO's, so will obviously have gone into it with a negative mindset, and extrapolated anything negative he could find.

The Engine doesn't make the game, so that point is null for a start. The claims that it is doing nothing different is also null, as not enough information has actually been released to actuall state that. Very few games out there actually want to imitate WoW. The problem is, WoW took some of the core elements of MMO's which were far from original, and did them well in the beginning. Many features which are key to MMO's, and have been way before WoW are now apparently trying to imitate it, when in fact they are not. It's like when games are apparently COD clones when they have some of the same features, even though COD did very few original things.

Things like classes and third person aren't copying WoW at all, but are fairly key to how an MMO works.

The only legitimate gripe from that article is the lore, which we actually know very little about. There is the real possibility that there is some way of explaining how it all fits together.

It's using a hotbar system. That alone warrants it as just another MMO with the TES name stamped on it. They'd have to have everything else be radically different for it to stand out really. But the hotbar thing right there kills it, as that just isn't what TES is about. There's nothing immersive about it. No first person? Yet another thing that belongs in TES that isn't in TES MMO. When someone imagines a TES MMO (before it was announced), they imagine playing a TES game in an MMO setting. Not change the TES game's core into an MMO styled game.

TESO is a money gimmick. They're not going to waste their time and money making it as smooth as the first-person action game of Morrow/Obliv/Skyrim, you people better start remembering that.

Personally, I don't really have an opinion of this game. I love TES but I don't think I'd pay to play an MMO again.
