  1. Jetys1 A few days ago, I had a nice chat with Naruto 1fan, currently ranked #68 in firemaking. I was too lazy to get a screenshot, though.
  2. I really miss those days. :( Anyone remember the "Dark Ages"? Not long after Andrew added the horrible chat filter and removed the official forums, tip.it was having hosting issues. For about two months, the updating of tip.it came to a complete standstill. That was back in late 2001. And yes, I remember Killgen's forum. It became very successful, and many tip.it users treated it as their new home after our forums went down. I also remember "Ruby" being a temporary member of the tip.it team.
  3. What I'd really like to see are some D&D features. ALthough, it might be hard to implement some of it in RuneScape.
  4. I definitely agree; these days, to get more recognition, you'll have to be fairly involved in the community, rather than get high levels. T.E.T. members, for example. :D
  5. I know that this can be a touchy subject, but let's try to keep any flaming down. Over the course of six years, RuneScape has greatly changed, both for better and for worse. There's many things to do these days, and there's much more players. Unfortunately, many of these new features *cough* Pest Control *cough* make leveling too easy, and many cheaters and abusive players have arrived along with the massive amount of new players. When RuneScape was fairly new, no-one knew that the highest possible skill was level 99. It was only guessed. Back then, leveling was much harder due to the limited training options. The fact that the game did not show the EXP made it psychologically tougher. Back then, the top fighters had stats of around 60 and 70, and they were pretty much known all over RuneScape. Later, some players began to reach level 80 skills, for example, Everdred with woodcutting and Tks with cooking. When players hit level 85 mining and smithing, they, too, would be known around the community. I remember that not long after L6vi and Tks got level 99 cooking, market boards were created on Killgen's forums, entitled "Tks' Treasures" and "L6vi's Lobster Lake". Earlier, when Everdred got level 99 woodcutting, he was given the rank "Master Lumberjack" on the TIF. Of course, only tightly knit fan forums would do this now, because if major fan sites like tip.it did this, they would be accused of favoritism. Back then, 1,000 skill total was considered a worthy achievement. Now, with so many skills, anyone can reach 1,000 skill total in just weeks if they know what to do. However at around 2003, there were about 50 people with level 99 cooking. Often times, we would see a player who we have never heard of before suddenly appear in the top 10 position. I guess that's when level 99 stats starded to become old. Back in the day, when someone achieved a level 99 stat, their name would often be mentioned all around fan forums. Nowadays, I estimate that about 200 level 99 stats are achieved each day, yet I don't see 200 "player x has achieved level 99 cooking" posts, etc. In fact, only about 99.95% of such players are mentioned in forums, and even so, it's probably their friends just mentioning them, not people saying "OMG I met player x the lvl 99 cook" etc. Even then, they're probably only mentioned one or two times, not 10-20 times. Personally, I have 3 level 99 stats, but I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near famous, LOL. I do consider myself somewhat well known on tip.it, but it's more because of my community involvement rather than levels! :) These days, if you said you had a level 99 skill, most players would have to check the hiscores, LOL. "Lol noob, you're lying." "Lvl 99 smithing? O rly? Hold on, lemme check hiscores." I think that aside from the amount of players with level 99 skills, another reason is that skills are much easier to level on RS2. At level 78 thieving on RSC, I can only get like 40k exp an hour at the most. On RS2, it's possible to get well over 100k an hour. On RSC, training ranged probably only brings about 20k exp an hour for players with the most equipment. On RS2, players with red chinchompas can get around 300k exp an hour. Big difference. Now, skill capes. Jagex realized this and gave skill capes so that high level players can get recognized more. However, it's only short term these days. A long time ago, it would be like this: "Oh wow, it's player X, the level 99 fisher! I'm taking screenshot!" Today, those with skill capes will get recognized, but only in short term. Chances are, the person asking to see your emote will forget about you within the next 10 seconds. I remember back in 2002, Kingleonardo made a list of player with level 100+ combat. Now, every so often, you'd see a level 126 player walking around. If Kingleonardo were to make a list now, he's got a LOT of work to do. :) I've got some questions for the community: 1. What do you consider to be a "top" player these days? (Personally: high level: any level 99 stat, 100+ combat, or 1,600+ skill total. top player: five or more level 99 stats, 120 combat, or 2,000 skill total legendary: 10 or more level 99 stats, 126 combat, or 100,000,000+ exp in any skill) 2. For high level players: Do you get recognized by many players due to your level? Not because they recognize your cape, but your name? (Personally: Not really) 3. For those with level 99 stats: When people ask you to do the emote, do you find it annoying? A compliment? (Personally: a compliment.) In closing, I'd say that those players with level 99 stats owe a lot of the original skillers like Everdred, who inspired other people with level 99 stats, and so on. If it weren't for people like Everdred, it's a safe bet that there would much fewer level 99 people today.)
  6. It's really unfair. Check the ishing hiscores. There's probably at least 10 players in the top 500 who have no other stats other than 99 fishing. Of course, they could be skill pures, but I doubt it.
  7. I'd help pay off the mortgage, donate some to charity, spend some on vacations, and the rest on my hobbies (high-powered lasers, etc).
  8. Congratulations from a fellow level 99 thief! By the way, there's no thievable NPCs at Seers. Did you use a genie lamp?
  9. If I were a billionaire on RS, I'd give you a mask, but I'm not. :(
  10. Although Jagex tries to make everyone happy, it can't please everyone. However, what are your least favorite updates? Mine are: 1. skill menu update Prior to May 2001, we had two magic skills, good and evil magic. Jagex later decided to merge the skills, and the higher was kept. For example, if you had level 50 good magic and level 45 magic, you kept the good magic. However, the exp from the level 45 magic would have been discarded and was not kept. Even though I didn't lose any abilities, I lost the exp from my lower magic level. (I was around level 45 for both skills.) Level 45 magic is easy to get, but it was a lot to me back then. My skill total also went down, and I was a noob at the time, so I complained about not having 600+ skill total, LOL. (I'm 1691 right now. :D) 2. website and chat filter update Due to abuse and resource issues, Jagex removed forums, links, and server status. Andrew also changed the chat filter so it only allows a limited dictionary, much like Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom. Fortunately, the chat filter update was removed the next day. 3. members Unfortunately, Jagex can't keep RS free forever. After the launch of members, the free version rarely received updates. I was one of many people who complained, knowing that many of our parents would not let us pay. I'm now an adult and I can pay for myself, but I do feel bad for those younger f2p players who may not know about those get-paid-to-take-survey programs. 4. fletching update Before the fletching update, regular logs gave more exp the higher your woodcutting level was. However, with new logs, regular lows were reduced to 25 exp, making leveling woodcutting very hard on the free version. This was somewhat compensates at the launch of RS2, where free users were given up to yews. Even then, it's not as fast as it used to be, as chopping yews takes a much longer time than regular logs. 5. fatigue Jagex added this on RSC to deter cheaters, but it did nothing to stop the, In the meantime, it made things more difficult for legitimate players. 6. RS2 RS2 brought loads of new features, but I'll never forgive Jagex for neglecting RS Classic. Also, some of the challenges and fun of RSC, like dueling anywhere, automatic ore dropping, and the three round rule, as been removed. Note that I don't hate RS2 now. 7. Removal of RSC free version Jagex removed the free version of RSC on August 3, 2005 due to cheaters. This caused most cheaters to move to RS2. 8. pure essence Jagex tried to devalue regular essence, but unfortunately for Jagex (fortunately for us), the plan backfired, as regular essence didn't really drop in price. However, pure essence did move up in price - good for sellers, bad for runecrafters. many RCers now prefer to mine their own essence. Jagex also opened a new door to scamming - players switching pure essence with regular essence. Some players also hate the Wilderness update, which Jagex probably added because too many people died after withdrawing from banks. Of course, a PvP server would solve this problem.
  11. IMHO, modern humans are spoiled by technology.
  12. I've also wondered that. One of my friends says that she saw a level 41 with one.
  13. My thoughts exactly. 2 dragon chainbody drops, and you'll have the value back.
  14. When I got hacked on April 29, 2003, I llost over 30 masks and 50 Santa hats, if that makes you feel better. It's wealth that I'll probably never recover. :( I guess I just don't have Duke Freedom's merchanting skills! :)
  15. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this with Cap'n Arnav (pirate's combination lock), and whether it is normal before I send a bug report. Anyways, I was about to pick some flowers when I got the random. After entering the combination, Cap'n Arnav said that I "didn't follow directions" after I clicked Unlock. He offered me a chance to try again, but I was still in the middle of entering the combination when Cap'n Arnav said I got the "wrong combination" and knocked me out. I had to home tele and use the gnome glider to get back to Catherby. It was a bit irritating, but I just hope that I didn't trigger Jagex's macro detection system, LOL. Has anyone else ever experience this?
  16. Well, today, I saw someone get the frog princess. Well, when the player went to kiss her, another nearby player tried to talk to her. Even though the random event NPCs will only talk to players they are targetting, they will still turn to face those who try to talk to them. Anyways, this caused the frog to turn, and it looked like that the player was kissing the frog's, um, behind. Sorry, I just had to share! It was just too funny!
  17. Well, I'm not really doing any more clues for now, LOL. I've made the final update to thie guide!
  18. Aww, I guess that (hypothetical) unofficial f2p hiscore lists (especially those that scan the hiscores for f2p-only players) are now illegal. :(
  19. Aaron11144 I think I've also seen Autolycus a few times.
  20. Hey, LordZeon! I remember you from the old school days! Anyways, we did have a CAPTCHA with the fatigue system, but those bots always got around it. :\
