    Today...

I want someone to help me design a coal-burning boiler, but I'm the only person in my year doing one, and the only person in the University who really knows his stuff about boilers is the supervisor who's grading me for "initiative", so my questions have to be phrased in a way that demonstrates I generally know what I'm doing. How do you even learn how to do "initiative"? I always figured it was something vague that you couldn't really learn in a specific way and aren't really responsible for, like "talent" or "intelligence". I'm starting to really think that I have an inherent problem with working on my own. I don't think it's a social thing, I just can't discuss things with myself in my own mind and filter out the endless stream of dumb ideas at the same time. I'm thinking about artichokes right now. God I hope my job doesn't end up being like this.
  2. I like how clean my mouth feels after flossing and brushing, you should try it I don't quite like the taste of my own blood. Ok. I've decided to help out TIF here. I do a lot of lurking and not enough posting (and when I post I don't contribute much...honestly I don't know how the hell I got so many total posts) so I'm gonna change that. I've been here since Christmas 2005, since middle school. Now I'm 20 year old college student/part time employee. You guys have been like my second group of friends, complete with the older, experience ones and the younger, friendlier ones. I don't know how you guys think of me, but I've always kinda assumed "That guy who posts occasionally but I don't know much of him". So I'm gonna give more life to Off-topic than I currently do, because this is a community truly worth being a part of.,,,but one that I never fully expressed myself in. Yay. :) I need to post more often here as well. But I also need to stop procrastinating. What do.
  3. Go practice EoC in some slayer tasks first. They're boss battles, tests of your understanding of how combat works. To get you started, don't use Momentum in a boss battle, it's used for long killing sprees and training. Don't use combo moves when you need to move around. Fluidity doesn't mean "every tactic works", you need to adapt your fighting to the scenario.
  4. [hide=Spoilers]Yeah, I sided with the Guthixians too. I personally favoured waking him so we could talk it out, but I didn't trust the Zarosians to not take the opportunity to kill him, especially when it was Sliske (the guy who famously lies about everything) who was presenting the Zarosian plan. I guess I was half-right, but the rest of the Zarosians seemed to genuinely want to avoid killing Guthix, so I feel a bit bad about that. I'm still glad Azzanadra didn't hold my choice against me, he strikes me as an honourable person. Also, Saradomin keeps on repeating the "violence is sometimes necessary to attain a greater peace" mantra far too often for me to think he actually believes it. I don't trust him to be the god of "good", I think he lost the perspective of what good really means right after the God Wars started, if he ever did. [/hide]
  5. You know, after six and a half years, I'd never realised that my account is half a year older than yours. It feels weird. I tend to view my early years when I was 14 (bloody 14, I'm 20 now!) in the same way that you'd treat a drunken night out you can't entirely remember the details of, and don't really want to. Back then, I saw students as slightly mythical old creatures with beards who know magic old people secrets. Now *I'm* the one with a beard, but I'm not giving away my secrets. Oh god, the evil_mumm_ra smiley: :ugeek:
  6. So what's the point of changing run energy like that without changing anything else? The system was already a tad too generous with run energy, but now Agility is made less useful for no apparent reason.
  7. The problem I find with Construction is that while houses are more useful than many people give them credit for, the useful stuff is unlocked at a pretty low level and you don't get anything for training it beyond 70-ish apart from cosmetic stuff which isn't actually that pretty. It also leaves a huge hole in your coin purse. It's a skill developed for a different era of Runescape, where skills weren't expected to be complete past level 75 because no other skill really was at the time. I do think it needs a huge overhaul. I'd like to see options for building walls square by square, and much more utility. Houses should be your base of operations. Ideas off the top of my head: 1. Customised placement for objects within the square grid. 2. A bank chest (a deposit box makes for a good lower-level variant). 3. More teleport attuning options. It should be possible to use most artefacts with teleport spells to attune portals, usually with permanent effect. 4. Build skilling plots, particularly farming patches, mines and pottery-making equipment. 5. Integration with the Clan Citadels. I'd like to build a portal to the Citadel or even move my house portal to the Citadel. 6. More options for displaying various trophies, from capes to customisable armour displays.

    Today...

As it stands, I'm on course for a 2:1 for my degree, assuming I pass my second try at an exam I borked last month. If I get it, I'm going to Vegas this summer, as I've been wanting to for years. :)
  9. Just letting you know that the Moderating Team are currently in discussions regarding how we're going to treat this issue, so hopefully I'll be able to give you a more concrete answer soon. In the meantime, I will emphasise that this is a very unsafe thing to do, and I highly suggest that you don't do it. If you are scammed, Jagex has a long-standing policy of not returning lost items. 10. I second quests. It's a good balanced way to go about progressing through the game, as the requirements naturally present you with reasonable skill goals. For now, try to do every quest you can do right now, then pick a quest, work towards the requirements, do the quest, and repeat. Tears of Guthix got a facelift and a boost to its xp rewards, so use that if you can. If you get 80 mining and 80 crafting, you can get a better bowl which gives you better xp rates. It will let you power through a few Dungeoneering levels. Troll Invasion gives a nice monthly lamp too. Other good Distractions and Diversions include the Circus and Shattered Heart (rebuilding the statue in Varrock Museum). If you do the Rune Memories quest, talk to the Lesser Demon in the wizards tower for 10k free prayer or magic xp (I suggest the former). Try to do all the area tasks you can. Every set complete gives you some free xp lamps, and there's a lot of sets out there.
  11. Display names for sure. Post-Nov 2010 players don't even have login names, and Jagex updated RSC to support display names, so I see no reason why 2007 servers wouldn't have them. Thanks! That makes sense :) Now will Tip.it bring back their 2007 site & forums along side this current version? ~ Captainkidd I can't comment on the main site, not my area of expertise, but from what I can see we're almost certainly keeping the current forums more or less how they are. As always, how we approach any changes (possibly an additional Help and Advice subforum, or even a 2007scape forum) depends largely on the demand from the users.
  12. Doesn't work, but I see your problem, you missed the "www." in the URL. I'll fix it for you. EDIT: Keep up the good work! I don't understand why that's an issue, but if it fixed it for you, that's good. I've also added a text log of the data grabs. http://www.misplaced....php?table=true If it helps, I use Chrome. Seems to have fixed PolarBearBlue's issue as well, and she uses Firefox. I think we're sorted out now. :)

  14. *Puts on mod hat* Just a heads up, everyone is free to argue whether or not other people should vote or abstain, but please avoid insulting people you don't agree with. Will H - Global Moderator *Removes mod hat*
  15. Just think of him as a slightly bigger dragon than normal. None of his attacks require anything special so long as you've got dragonbreath protection (super antifires or antifires + dragonfire shield). Ignore the poison, it deals very little damage and goes away quickly. He has no weaknesses either, so bring whatever gear you have that you can kill a dragon with.
  16. Actually, now I think about it, if I could vote no, I would still abstain. If there really was enough interest in the servers to get people to get members in big enough numbers to turn a profit, then it isn't really a drain on the main game at all. If there isn't enough interest, then it would rightfully not get more resources than is necessary. So basically, I'm going to go with the majority opinion, whatever it is. EDIT: Fixed formatting of the OP.
  17. Holy guacamole. My gut reaction right now is no. I don't want resources being diverted to satisfy people who can't stand change. I'm open to people changing my opinion, though.
  18. I'd rather know when I'd die. Not only would that guarantee that I'd be alive for the whole of my life up until that date, I can schedule my life and prepare for death much easier. I could make better decisions about life insurance and retirement funds. That kind of information would give me a pretty big advantage money-wise, especially if it turns out I'm going to die earlier than average. I could even take out big bets on my lifespan if it turns out to be long enough. Also, knowing when I'll die gives me a bit of power to influence how I'll die, because that isn't fixed. There's no way I'll get in a car during the last week or so, or get on a plane on the last day. I'll just lie in bed and hope that I just have a heart attack or a brain aneurysm. Only disadvantage I could see would be if it work like Torchwood: Miracle Day, where I can't die no matter how much damage I take, but I reckon I would take that chance. If I chose to know how I'd die, and it turns out to be something like a car crash, I'd end up avoiding roads like the plague, but it wouldn't make a difference in the long run. I couldn't really use the information because it's already inevitable. Similar deal with most things that aren't natural causes. If it is natural causes, that doesn't give me free reign to do dangerous things, I could still be seriously injured, and my injuries could just cause a heart attack later on. That kind of information just isn't as useful.
  19. Fixed some formatting issues in the OP and title. Sorry for the meddling!
  20. I see no reason to. When threads run their course, people stop posting in them, and they sink to oblivion. No need for staff to get involved.
  21. I've never personally been someone who has paid much attention to the high scores, but to actually pull off what has for a long time been considered completely impossible is... I can't think of a good word. Legendary? Congratulations, I look forward to the 21st, lag and all.
  22. Context is everything. Void's usually what you wear when you're dealing with simply can't deal enough damage to overpower any healing methods available to you. For example, if you're doing the fight in Troll Invasion, void is a no-brainer for any player with even mediocre combat skills, because you're not being dealt much damage and you've got the completely overpowered restoring table to abuse. Also, remember that a lot of healing methods like Soul Split, the Vampyrism Aura, Vampyrism Scrimshaw and Bloodfire spells heal you as a percentage of damage dealt, so that also helps.
  23. Just remember that using void sacrifices a lot of defence and constitution, so going back to heal all the time will just bring your DPS back down. Still, if you've got something in mind which doesn't involve you taking a lot of hits, void all the way.
