  1. I accept that it's not a completely useless skill. There are small things like the armour repair stand and enchanted bolts, but that's not much. Quests are par for the course, every skill is a quest requirement somewhere (aside from Dungeoneering, but that's changing this month). It still needs more stuff to do that isn't training, because what it has is a bit pathetic. If you really want me to be honest, I'd rather they added more stuff that isn't training to Firemaking instead of Smithing, but that's a bit of a dream and requires a bit more of a leap of the imagination. After all what practical applications can you put on a skill that's about destroying stuff for no apparent reason?

Ahahah nice. Jagex should put in Telekinetic Grab in the spellbook. Got my hood at 77 Dungeoneering at last. My friend was so annoyed.
  3. I think the whole point about the elemental armour is that it's a story of scientific progress, from something that's completely theoretical and useless to something that's revolutionary with applications to the outside world. Also, you'd think Vitruvius, the guy who made the first working computer, would pick a better apprentice.
  4. Even if these smithable items can be sold which makes you loose less cash, how does that make Smithing useful? Oh, don't get me wrong, it's still completely unnecessary. All I'm saying that it probably won't be obsolete, it might be the best way to train Smithing for plenty of levels, but it won't be useful in the way that Attack helps you hit more often or Construction lets you build a portal room. Skills should help other skills or functions like transport, moneymaking and combat. If they just help themselves, it's pointless.
  5. You have an odd definition of low level update. . Please tell us Willbur, why we should get excited about making rune ceremonial cabbage slicers that are most likely to be untradeable, unusable in combat, and high alch for far less then the bars cost? Rune cannonballs would be a great smithing update. This cabbage, unlikely... vey unlikely... However, low levels and the f2p should love a little workshop in the corner of varrock to make worthless junk for a little more xp until they can superheat gold as they train mining over at living rock cavern. Please don't call me that, I don't appreciate your tone. If you really want to know, it's pretty likely that these decorative swords are valuable to the artisans, and that they can be sold, at a better xp/gp rate as opposed to the fairly significant losses associated with superheating gold at the caverns. For all we know, it might turn a profit. This is all speculation, but it's never constructive to just assume that it's going to be obsolete on release, so I have to assume that they worked out their numbers right. If we just went around saying that all of the content is already obsolete in BTS discussions, very little would ever get said. If it is obsolete content, then we'll deal with that when the time comes.
  6. I'm curious why everyone's convinced that there's a boss at the end of the series, when it's a series that's strictly no combat, all puzzling. Sticking on combat at the end would just be weird and inconsistent.
  7. Ok now we're seeing the effect endlessly discussed in the thread aspeeder mentioned. It's a combination of factors, and I don't want to start that argument over again.
  8. I had trouble logging into RS in my browser (Chrome) after the update hit, so I switched to the client, where I didn't have any problems. Did anybody else have the same experience?
  9. They are calling it a, and I quote, "long-awaited update". They think that this is what we were waiting for. They thought that this is what we thought the skill needed. If it was a precursor to a proper high level 'Smithing Update' that gives purpose to the skill, this wouldn't be the "long-awaited" one, would it?
  10. [hide]And there's another door to another hallway. EW6 anyone? [/hide] I did it, I don't think the puzzles were as difficult as the body one. I'll make a chaos shield as a keepsake and be done with it. I'm really hoping that there's going to be a way to automate priming bars in the future, because it's just annoying and slow. I also got a bit annoyed though when I found out I could pick up that stone slab myself, for a while I was thinking that I had to do something clever with the robot. It's clearly too big to pick up. Oh well, I'll make a Chaos Shield as a keepsake and move on.
  11. I just fell out of my chair. Quest time? Already?
  12. Hardly, its a low level update and your way late on that. You should have had that up after the living rock cavern update. Thats the official way to train smithing nowadays. You have an odd definition of low level update. If making the lowest level ceremonial swords, which I assume to be bronze, requires level 70, then rune is going to be pretty high. I love how you are almost always the only person who steps back and thinks before posting. The BTS doesn't label everything possible for the smithing update, only a selection what will be. Just because it mentions Adamant ceremonial swords doesn't mean there will only be them. The smithing update has however been so obverhyped by players that always hate Jagex that whatever happened it would be bashed so it doesn't really matter what they do. I appreciate the compliment. I don't think that we can really talk about who overhyped the 'Smithing Update' when we haven't laid out what the fabled 'Smithing Update' was/is. As far as I'm aware, the players wanted an update that gave a lot more functionality to the Smithing Skill, more rewards for having the levels. As I said before, perhaps cool stuff like customising weapons and armour. If that's what people are calling 'overhyping', fine, but I think that the want is justified. It's not a very rewarding skill in the grand scheme of things and that needs to change. Jagex received the message, but at some point they compressed it down to two words at the brainstorming meeting. 'Smithing'. 'Update'. The words were probably written in big letters in the middle of a whiteboard with a circle around it. Something was lost in translation, so during development, the phrase meant new functionality and purpose to Smithing for most players, and new ways to train Smithing for Jagex, two quite different things. This inconsistency has probably been going for years, and it's only been revealed now because Jagex so stubbornly refuses to release just the fundamental details of what the updates are meant to do until it's far too late. I'm still waiting for the magical 'Smithing Update' that was so overhyped, because it hasn't appeared in the Behind the Scenes article yet. EDIT: Damned ninja squads. You guys made most of my points while I was typing this post. Also, I should pay more attention to threads.

  14. Er, Jagex, that wasn't what we meant by 'The Smithing Update'. We want more useful applications for the skill, like modifying armour and weapons, not faster ways of training it. You're making the same mistake you did for the All Fired Up quest. Also, double quest month!
  15. That's where the Void Deflector, the shield, comes in handy. It acts as a piece of void knight armour, so I don't have to wear the void gloves to get the bonuses. RFD Gloves have strictly better bonuses than the Dragon Defender, plus you get the defensive bonuses of the shield (Adamant Kiteshield with better magic defence and no negatives). Similarly for ranged, you can ditch the Void Knight Body for a black dragonhide or any ranging body if you use a deflector and crossbow, as that's the slot that gives the best ranged bonuses, since there's no real 'ranging shield' that I'm aware of beyond an unholy book. It works with standard void armour too if you don't want to do the quest. Pictures are better than words, I'll get a screenie of what I used against Jad. Replace the crossbow with chinchompas for a really great range training setup. In short, the Deflector is really useful, and I don't even think I've managed to use it to its full potential yet. Get one if you have Void, or if you want to get Void. Living proof that using Deflect prayer to kill Jad>easy Fire cape. If you wanna be daring>You can spec him with aGS/Claw at half hp, just make sure your on task too so that ull have higher chance of success. Grats on cape  I'll reiterate how thankful I am for your advice. I'd never be able to concentrate on killing those healers as well as dealing with Jad. I don't know if trying to finish off Jad quickly at the end is a good idea. Once you get into the rhythm of protection prayer switching, doing anything other than potting up between attacks might end badly, although that's my naive opinion.
  16. I love you.
  17. That's one of the perks of having Karamja Gloves 4, the ones you get from the elite tasks. Happens once a day, I imagine it increases chances of success against Jad quite a bit.
  18. Noted, thanks. :)
  19. Healers didn't appear when i killed Jad with deflect prayer. Many players have problem with distracting healers, switching prayers is something they manage. But dealing with healers + switching is hard So why not kill Jad by using Deflect protect prayers only? It's pretty easy to practise on switching perfectly. Healers don't appear if you don't physically attack it? You may have solved a problem of mine. *runs off muttering excitedly*
  20. What's better when ranging Iron/Steel dragons when on a slayer task? Full Slayer Helm with black dragonhide and barrows gloves or full Void Range?
  21. Ok, this makes me angry. You can't outright lie in a review, and I'm pretty sure that constitutes libel.
  22. Dragon defender's better for slayer, and since you've got Super Antifires for dragons, there's no real reason for you to have a DFS unless you start doing bosses again. For now, sell it.
  23. The only place I know of that's non-PvP for Green Dragons is the Chaos Tunnels. Only downside is that there's some level 89 Baby Black Dragons in multi-combat wandering around there too, but that's not really a problem for someone of your level.
  24. I don't think many people would change their mind. It's exactly how I expected it to be. I'd still vote yes, since the game hasn't been shut down by the banks.
  25. You have to admit, at least the Grand Exchange properly works right now under conditions of stress. The suggested prices might lag behind a bit, but at least what you can buy and sell at follows accordingly.
