  1. Although I suspect I'm in the minority about this, I believe every country has a right to enforce basic laws about public dress, but not private. Before people should criticise this law, consider that in France, where a common greeting is to kiss each other on both cheeks, the presence of a face covering garment probably represents something deeper to the French than not showing your whole face. Disrespect for culture does indeed go both ways. I dislike the whole principle of anyone covering up their face because someone else is present, and even more so because of gender. I'd go so far to say that they're offensive and accusatory.
  2. Heh, that excactly what I thought when I practiced . Oh god, I see what you mean now. Does nomad just go easy on people who don't actually plan to kill him? In any case, this is going to call for 80 ranging, and that Tortoise. Damn.
  3. Harrumph, on second thought, I'm going to have a few tries at it with a Terrorbird first. It's now, at the time of posting, the last and only thing I need to do before getting a quest cape. The consequences of dying aren't very big, so it won't hurt much in trying now I've got 75 ranging, courtesy of While Guthix Sleeps and some red chinchompas. I'll post my results. EDIT: On third thoughts, this doesn't look like it's going to be too bad at all. I tried out the 'pillar trick' and my armour, switching the cape for ava's acccumulator, just brought a handful of monkfish, and survived for a decent length of time. I think I'll do it.
  4. I suppose the other thing I'd do with Jagex is just flood the market with bogus bot sites and people offering to make bots, which would break down the trust between bot makers and customers.
  5. From personal experience, no. It's very effective on bosses and large monsters because of the guaranteed 100 hits, but the loss of a bind slot where you could have a platebody or leather body eliminates the advantage because of the need for food.
  6. Blimey, they weren't kidding when they said this would be a hard boss. Ok, I'll get that Tortoise, and I might have collected some defence levels by the time I get it. I was going to use the 'pillar trick', although I've always considered it more as what you were supposed to do instead of a 'trick', the ironic cry of 'You cannot hide from my wrath' kinda makes it obvious.
  7. Ah, pity. What if I do get a War Tortoise? Can I reasonably beat Nomad then?
  8. My stats will be: Ranged 75 Defence 78 Constitution 82 Prayer 71 Magic 76 Summoning 58 with Spirit Terrorbird/Kyatt I am planning to use Black d-hide body and chaps, Barrows Gloves, Blessed Spirit Shield, Snakeskin Boots, Ranger's Amulet, Obsidian Cape and a Rune Crossbow. My ammo is ruby bolts (e), then switch to diamond bolts (e) when he goes berserk. My inventory is sara brews and super restores, at a ratio of 3:1, and the terror bird also has brews and super restores in the same amounts, as well as a spirit kyatt with ambush scrolls. When he goes berserk, I'll dismiss the bird and spam ambush with the kyatt. I might also be able to borrow a bandos godsword for the special at the start. I'm just concerned about the use of a Terrorbird. Will I run out of brews/restores because I haven't got a War Tortoise? I've run out of charms in my bank, and having to get level 67 summoning will be a really big inconvenience for me, so I'd rather clear it up before I have to go charm hunting. EDIT: Since the heart-stoppingly surprising revelation that Nomad is actually a difficult boss, I'm definitely going to grab the levels for a War Tortoise. I'm asking anyone for tips for beating this guy. I understand what I need to do with the pillars, and have a friend willing to lend a BGS, it's just that I often find that I've drunk three sara brews and a restore, only to find that in that time I have just as much health as before. I end up wasting far too many combat turns. Any suggestions for improvements on equipment, levels, or technique? I'll also make clear what I am using a bit more clearly: Current Equipment: Black d'hide body Black d'hide chaps Helm of Neitiznot (With Ambush Scrolls) Barrows RFD Gloves Archers' Ring Snakeskin Boots Blessed Spirit Shield Rune Crossbow with Ruby Bolts(e) Bandos Godsword (Lent) for special Spirit Terrorbird (With Saradomin Brews and Super Restores 3:1 ratio) Inventory: Spirit Kyatt pouch Saradomin Brews and Super Restores 3:1 ratio Current Combat Stats: Attack: 83 Strength: 80 Defence: 78 Constitution: 83 Magic: 76 Ranged: 75 Summoning: 58 (Will train to 67)
  9. "hi i want 2 kill graardor" "sorry i was here first" "2 bad i am teleporting you for being a bot" ^ what would happen Actually, it would work better if the guy who teleports him also teleports to a safe unrelated place too.
  10. Players, or at least certain players, need some kind of power that will interrupt bots, because I don't think anything's foolproof apart from the Turing Test. Simply teleporting them to a random safe area that's unrelated to what they're doing would break a bot, because they won't have access to the location of the objects they're supposed to be clicking on. It should be automatically accompanied by a bot report. I'm all for becoming a bot hunter if I could do that.
  11. The fact that they manage to run the whole game on a 32 bit OS is incredible. The memory limit's actually closer to 3.5GB, but that's still a really tight limit on a server that's running an entire MMO.

The law only functions on the level of protecting children. It's gilded with talk of morals, but it's only a front, simply because morality is such a grey area. If morality was really allowed to get involved in law, then court cases would often revolve around how conservative or liberal the jury was. That's not justice at all.
  13. To be frank, p2p really doesn't harbour any love for Fletching, it's a boring skill that just gives a skill to the task of producing ranged weapons. Also, it's expanded in Daemonheim to fletch basic staves too. Just sticking them on the Smuggler isn't in the spirit of the skill, or even the game. I honestly see no harm in switching it.
  14. I'm sorry, but I take offense at that. Most free play friends I know are great friends to talk to, and aren't actually showoffs in any way (aside from what they wear, but that doesn't really count). There's this maxed free player that comes into this dungeoneering clan chat that I go to (they are GOOD, btw), but does she ever mention anything about it? NO. In fact, this other day, while I was slaying greaters on my p2p account, some 105 comes and was like "gtfo black mask noob, go to the other side". I don't recall hearing anything like that in free play, at least not when I was cockroach killing. Yes I know that since it's free, there will be more players and a greater chance of immaturity, but please, don't assume that just because it's free it will be full of immature [wagon]es. The free community is better than you think. i definitely agree that there are mature people in f2p and i also definitely agree there are immature people in p2p as well. but if you play f2p FoG you'll get a lot of comments like that (prayer n00b, pure gtfo pl0x, etc). and the same goes for p2p castle wars. I notice the link between combat, especially PvP, and immaturity. Maybe this is just the result of how combat is designed in Runescape? Barring lunar magic, which only sees play in a limited number of situations, there's no real content that actively involves teamwork in combat. A team in WoW is much more effective together than if the individuals rush in separately, Leeroy Jenkins style. A Runescape team can really only function as individuals fighting the same targets, and there's very little you can do to aid your allies. Maybe this is just something that needs tending to by Jagex?
  15. My thoughts exactly. Losing all of your memories and your physical form must constitute at some point a change in the self. Just because all of my fingers on my left hand sprouted from the same hand, it doesn't mean that all of my fingers on my left hand are one. I can appreciate the possibility of all of humanity originating from a single source, but each human after it has 'surfaced' to the world is intrinsically different afterwards. Simply put, even if the soul exists, it certainly doesn't work like this.
  16. a) Get a better taste in music. That song was dire. b) That wasn't impressive. You were fighting a mage that didn't know how to mage properly, and rangers, who you should beat anyway.
  17. Microsoft Security Essentials [W] - Really good antivirus for Windows XP to 7. Spotify [W] - A huge free library of music. Alternatively, for a small subscription, you can also get the 'unlimited' advert-free version (which I personally use), or a 'premium' version that also allows you to use spotify on smartphones.

The one on December 26th? Not many of us here are from Sri Lanka, hence why we wouldn't know offhand (I have my reasons though  ), much like how 9/11 is completely different for the Americans here than the Europeans. There's a difference with those though. Natural disasters are beyond our control, while deaths as a result of poverty and vehicle accidents are and have been a constant throughout society over the centuries. 9/11 on the other hand, was a terrorist attack on a single day. It happened within the lifetimes of everyone on this board, and many of us remember it. It really isn't a grudge either. Most of us aren't using this as an excuse to condemn everything that has to do with Islam. It's a day to honor those that died. If Wikipedia is to be believed it's actually less a grudge than the UK's Guy Fawkes Night historically was. Nice catch. Oh, Guy Fawkes night, or at least at a time closer to the gunpowder plot, is the mother of all grudges. It just lasted so long that it turned to a tradition. I ask you this, do we honour and discuss those who died in that tsunami every year to this date? Over 200,000 people died in that catastrophe, and huge inhabited areas were razed to the ground, as compared to a few thousand people in two skyscrapers and a few planes, and the tsunami occurred more recently. If we apply the difference that you mentioned, where someone or a group caused the event, suddenly everyone wants to commemorate it every day. Logically, people are commemorating this repeatedly for 9 years because Al Quaeda (not Islam, although we've all heard about stupid people who think this is a war on Islam) caused it. It just sounds like a grudge to me.

As it is with everything else in life. Death sells, if you didn't know that you haven't been paying attention. True, but the act of 'commemorating' it consistently for 9 years sounds much more like a dangerous and violent grudge than simply sorrow for those who are lost, when you consider the numbers of lives lost in natural disasters, poverty, or vehicle accidents each year. We seem to be dealing with something far more sinister than mourning. After all, who remembers the date when Sri Lanka was hit by a tsunami?
  20. Someone just needs to ask the question: Why is the RS community so bad, even if the game is good? What defining feature of it has caused such immaturity?
  21. Will H replied to Flodder450's topic in Off-Topic
I'm not saying people should try to forget, what I'm trying to say is get over it. That's very sensitive and considerate to the thousands of people who lost family members that day. You're the one being inconsiderate. If anyone lost a family member or a friend, maybe they should celebrate their lives instead of how they died? 9/11 is an event everyone should get over, and even forgive and forget. On the other hand, the wonderful lives of thousands of people should never be forgotten. We spend too much time concerned about death to appreciate the life that comes before it.

I would barely tolerate a thread like this if it was an important anniversary, or anything particularly interesting was occurring that wasn't covered by other threads. But this is 9 years, this thread has no discussion value.
  23. I just want to grab a card called 'Ashnod's Coupon' (Target player gets you target drink. Errata: You pay any costs for the drink.), which will probably help in establishing beer rounds. Oh, then there's that combo that gets you unlimited drinks. Yeah, Unhinged and Unglued are awesome, I really hope they come up with a third 'un' set.

From personal experience, the chance of getting a +6 boost is much rarer than that. It is better to think of the +6 boost as impossible, considering the time and effort of getting each dose of spice of a certain colour. Get one more level, then try for a +5 boost (and even then, it will take a few tries).
