  1. Haha, I'm certain they'll get in eventually, but who really wants to be part of the 'old boys club' anyway? Jagex shows a talent for following the path less traveled.
  2. The system is fine, it's very easy to see what keeps over what with the 'items kept on death' interface, and some items get some of their monetary value due to their high 'high alch' value. Also, it prevents people from being boring and bringing only three high power items to everything they do.
  3. OT, do you want to destroy the game?
  4. I think you're missing the point here. Runescape is the most creatively made game out of all of those, it has broken boundaries of game programming that none of the others have come close to achieving, which is why the developers (and not the game itself) won the award. We all know graphics shouldn't be important for the enjoyability of a game, and yes, people do laugh at WoW because you have to grind so much.
  5. This is why you are wrong. Good games do not get made fun of in mass. It is impossible for there not to be someone out there who makes fun of SC but the gaming community on the whole (whether they play MMO, RTS, FPS, w.e) respect SC. You might suck at shooting games but are you honestly going to say that CS is a bad game? Uh... probably not. Somebody who doesn't like MMO's isn't going to sit here and bash Diablo and make fun of it simply because it doesn't appeal to them. So unless there is some massive conspiracy RS must actually suck in the eyes of other gamers. Good games are made fun of in mass. World of Warcraft is a tremendous example. The fact is, Runescape has attracted more people into playing than any other free MMO and has somehow managed to keep enough of those players playing for enough years with enough passion to establish fantastic communities like tip.it. Why? I don't know. It might possibly be because it's a good game. Live with it.
  6. We're not debating about what's happening, we're debating about what should happen. Often with Jagex, there's a huge difference.
  7. Dear God no, not again. The world will be perfectly fine in 2012, just chillax, it's not like we can do anything about the flow of time (and don't you dare go all Einstein on me).
  8. It's not that bad. I'm sure they've seen worse.
  9. Correction, Genesis is a myth fashioned by very intelligent, creative people and intended to be a metaphor for the creation of the fundamental ideas that exist in our lives, interpreted by very ignorant, superstitious people today as being literal. The Big Bang doesn't explain why there is good and evil in this world, where the physical laws of our universe come from, or where that original singularity came from. What I can't understand, putting good and evil aside, is how a phyical law can come to be. There is absolutely no sense in the fact that the fastest speed an object can travel is 299,792,458 metres per second. Even if we use a different unit, we just get another number, where on earth (or anywhere else) did that value come from? We don't even have to consider the convienience of it, just it's mere 'existence'.
  10. I imagine it's because they have to pay the stores to stock the cards (and manufacture them), and they have to pay the phone providers to provide the text service. Anyway, membership is still ridiculously cheap for such a huge MMO. The most important thing is that membership has become slightly more accessible, and that's never a bad thing :)
  11. Haha, that was really well done. It explains so much... :ohnoes:
  12. Sure it's possible, we're only talking about stat-boosts. In that case, it needs to be a combat level system change, since it is vital to many activities, I agree. However, I don't believe looking up the stats of your opponent and guessing motives, although resourceful, counts as making the effects visible. If we have to do that, again we've lost the point of a combat level.
  13. How about if you keep Dclaws in your inventory until you decide to spec? Or how about Barage runes, to farcast your opponent after he has wasted much of his food? The visible aspects of a player's combat ability, such as combat level and equipment (his/her combat profile, if you will) is subject from change from moment to moment, but the change should be visible, be it a prayer (even the stat boosting ones), the use of a spell, a change of weapon, or using a potion to give the opponent the chance to change tactics as well. If we can hide a change to our combat profile during or after it had been made, the point of a displayed combat level is lost. If you can think of a better way of showing what is going on with the use of a stat boost other than messing with the combat level, I will support it also.
  14. Not using a weapon? That isn't a good comparison. When you look at combat levels now, they tell you how strong the player is, when using the average equipment. If you put a 120 vs 136, but the 136 has to use a rubber chicken, the combat level won't be representative from the 136s strength. I think you have to compare a whip+pots or dclaws without pots. You'll see the difference isn't as big then. Answer me this: why should the Herblore advantage be given a combat level effect, while the D Claw/Vengeance/Godsword/Sara Brews/Ancients/Vesta/Full Bandos (choose one) advantage doesn't? There will always be advantages, but you can't make a number out of it! Combat level is for combat stats, not for advantages. You can't see whether someone has potted up or not, whereas all equipped items (aside from rings, but they're not the subject of this discussion) are plainly visible. When you size up how effective a player is going to be in combat, you take into account his/her equipment, and combat level, which should represent the bonuses you can't directly see. It doesn't necessarily represent how strong a player is full stop.
  15. I'm very disappointed by this, they've basically put a chisel to the game and formed a crack between PvP combat and PvM combat. I can only see that crack widening in the future.
  16. This has just confirmed that I won't do the event, like all others holiday events with cosmetic rewards. Sheesh, lighten up a little, what's wrong with a few cosmetic rewards? The game is about having fun, in case you haven't noticed. I thought graphically the Halloween event was very well done, it was atmospheric and fun. They really should add footstep noises in the game in general, it really adds to the atmosphere of certain areas.
  17. Probably the quickest way to learn a language once you know the basics is to do things in that language. Best way to do that is go to a country that speaks it for a while, but Runescape has a similar effect. I thought the first two articles were good, if a tad boring. I loved the third one though, it could be a great story!
  18. very intensive gaming, video and image editing / rendering / encoding / whatever, running multiple processes at once ect... I'll take your word for it, but it sounds like it's on the same vein as quad-SLI. Too much overkill to bear.
  19. Not everyone with 60 attack has D claws, just like not every lvl 100 has 90+ Herblore (they both cost a lot). And if you do have either one, you gain a great advantage. I don't see what's the difference... If you let one of them affect Combat level, you could use the same reasoning to let the other one affect it too. And since I think it's stupid to let any advantage raise our Combat lvls, I don't think Herblore should raise you Combat lvl. Imagine it this way: You can be very effective in melee combat if you use dragon claws but without potions, but you can't be effective if you use potions but don't use a weapon. Fundamentally, they effect your chances in combat very differently.
  20. The big question is: what on earth are you doing that makes you want to get 8GB DDR3 RAM? I thought the law of diminishing returns applies if you get more than most programs require.
  21. I don't agree that Herblore should affect combat. As has been satted before, are you going to add combat levels for having D claws? How about super pots? Soon we'd be lvl 300. But at higher attack and strength levels, you're expected to use better weapons to utilise the stats effectively, otherwise the extra damage you deal will be reduced many times over. On the other hand, you're not expected to use potions all the time. Your choice, therefore, should increase your combat level selectively.
  22. Neither do I, but surely there's nothing wrong with upgrading the family computer? I'm sure they'd appreciate it as well.
  23. Never ever do a low level formatting except if you're having a lot of trouble with your hard drive. I normal format is enough to install it, and when you install windows 7 it will ask to format, which will be enough. Ah, I didn't know that. I thought you had to low level format it. My bad.
  24. Why be so silly? Relying on a +6 boost is stupid, it's nigh-impossible to get. Train your skill until you are 4 levels from the required level. It's what I did for Smithing (88-> 92: Dragon platebody) and Crafting (86-90: Fury). It took less than 5 stews. Agreed. I regularly use stews for things like this, and you should consider it a +5 boost at best, not +6, because it is so wonderfully rare. This should be noted in the items database. At least get one level for it.
  25. Yeah, but that's because there's nothing tradable in the higher levels, not because of the GE, if that's what you're implying. As soon as the extreme potions are put back into PvP, perhaps with an adjustment to combat levels, there's other skills that need tending to more, like smithing and firemaking.
