  1. I buy a lot of generic food as it's basically the same thing for less. Sometimes half the price of the brand name. I find generic food brands are sometimes better, even. That is true. There's one thing in particular where I remember getting the brand name once because it was on sale, but only tasted salt while the generic one had actual taste of that food and not salt.

  3. Even worse, if she hasn't played in a while, then there's that ugly up-to-650 MB download to reload the game's local cache image. That's about 30% of her data limit right there. I know about this one because I used to check that data cache in my own disk file areas every so often... Really annoying when I would have to wait for the whole thing to rebuild. ~D. V. "Oh, the headaches I don't miss..." Devnull Most people never delete the rs cache. Btw it's around the lines of 900+ MB if you delete the rs cache and you reload it, not sure if my sources are right though. My Jagex_cache_32 is only 5MB though.
  4. I'm thinking she doesn't have that much money... Still a fun thought, however. ;) ~D. V. "Yeah, that's too pricey..." Devnull Well I pay about 15€ a month for about 1GB I-net, 75 phone minutes (I'm near deaf so I dont use it much) and unlimited text messages. Pretty cheap may I say =3 Wow that's about a quarter of what I pay for 100MB Internet, 100 phone minutes and unlimited text messages O_o. Guess it's true when they say Canada is one of the most expensive countries in the world for that.
  5. I don't have the time to answer right now, but I'd still like to add that nowadays all browsers have a mode in which it doesn't keep the cache or any information. In Firefox it's called a private window, in Chrome it's Incognito window, and I don't know for Internet Explorer as I don't use it. I would probably not use Chrome on such a small limit as it updates often and without the option to have it prompt you before updating, it updates automatically.

My mum has this same problem, but with an overseas company using a local number so it looks like they're local. It's now under DO NOT ANSWER on the home phone. Go to another Mechanic and never return to that one. You car shouldn't be breaking down while getting back home.
  7. Avoid social networks, anything else with live streams, and anything that will download massive amounts of data (such as upward of ~1 MB-4 MB in one go) like huge flash applets and java applets. Heck, you'll probably have to avoid RuneScape until you have better internet, due to the large data chunks that load when you're changing areas, as well as what happens with every single game update. :( Avoid social networks and streaming is good advice. Runescape though is still playable with such a limit as it doesn't load much at all, much lower than what you think they do, Devnull. I measured it a couple of weeks ago because I needed to tether for a bit, to see if I could still play, and loading Runescape uses less than 1MB and while playing, uses dial-up era bandwidth (Provided there wasn't an update that day). Don't clear your cache, but never let it fill up large areas (like, 3 GB, which is way beyond too much) of your computer's hard drive either. A maximum of 140-160 MB(Slow computers)/256 MB(Midrange Computer)/384 MB(High-End Computer) of disk space for your browser's cache is honestly all that's necessary and can be used without suffering real performance issues, and that's at a level where you can let the browser auto-determine when it needs to clear parts of that space for other data. Anything more is normally literally a waste and will slow things down, as I've come to learn the hard way, so only use more if you really have to. Why suggest so low numbers for cache? Your computer must be extremely slow if it can't handle more cache than that. On such a low limit I suggest not clearing the cache at all even if it reaches large amounts of Data, at least if it's a temporary situation. I, myself, am the type of person that does not clear cache often, and can sometimes have upwards of 5GB of cache on my mid-end computer, and no slow down. At that point it's more of a security reason to clear it.

Wow you can't be that young.. I'm only 26 and I know what a cassette is.
  9. Lol'd. Anyway for the noise level I'm pretty much always aware of it. Yes there are a couple of times I got louder, but on very rare occasions, and the thing is, I asked some other people that live in other adjacent appartments and they heard nothing from my appartment.

The back Glass of my LG Optimus G shattered by itself, which according to some research I made on the internet, is a manufacturing defect. Been trying to put it on warranty with LG but they don't want to put it on warranty. Guess I'm going to call and try to have it, if they ask more than $100 I'm not going to send it and I'll just use it and cut myself everytime I use it with the glass. Also can't find a case for it anywhere.. They can't afford to change a simple glass on a $600 phone. Never going for LG again for phones, only chose them because I had a Keybo that lasted 4 years.
  11. What I'm going to do is just tell the landlord that he can expect complaints from that person that lives in the appartment on top of mine. I have the right to talk on skype or on the xbox anytime I want, especially the weekend. Worst case scenario is I get to find another appartment sooner than expected, which isn't that bad when I'm not someone that makes noise at all, and getting complaints for talking after 10 PM is just plain stupid.
  12. Tennants that don't tolerate any little noise. Been in this appartment for a month and the one on top of my appartment already complained that I was making noise. They only noise I'm making is talking on the mic when I play Xbox... 11 months to go...

I think it's not as productive as seeing about 30 videos of all your subscribers at the same time on your screen. I don't like companies that force me to use the product they want me to use, even if I want to use the old product or the old version of the product. Google is starting to do what Apple is doing: Forcing people to use their software and updates without choice.

You're lucky. I pretty much stopped using Youtube since yesterday, I [bleep]ing hate the feed system and wish I could be like you and still have the grid view sub box. That's what my routine was but the feed makes it so much harder to find the youtubers I want to watch first...
  15. Sbrideau replied to Leoo's topic in Off-Topic
Like they needed to push that on us >.<. Going to make it much harder to watch the videos I want.
  16. I'm not on fiber. But still, you guys don't have the choice to add to the limit for a small fee? Like today I added a 20GB block for $5 (each GB that I use that's over the limit would be $2/each otherwise). If I didn't do that I would have went over my monthly limit (that ends in a week and a half). I'm still too used to the "no bandwidth limit fiber" that I had in NB. I have to lower my Netflix use, already that I have deactivated the HD on it).
  17. Beer (Molson Canadian usually). Especially since I moved, here the price is less than half what it was in New Brunswick for most beers. Also the occasional rum and coke.
  18. I work for an IT support company and we advise our clients that PC's should be replaced after 5 years of use so you've got good use out of it. What issues were you having with the motherboard? I think you need to spend a fair bit of money anyways to make sure that the hardware you are using does not become outdated within a couple of years. Was that the first computer you ever built? I also work as an IT technician and I found out it was the motherboard after diagnosing a bit. At first I thought it was the power supply. 5 years is pretty good for a computer that I built with the cheapest parts I could find, and that stays powered on pretty much 24/24. And yes it was my first build. I've built many computers since then, and always used precautions such as the anti-static wristband and stuff.
  19. I have built my computer 5 years ago for $600 and it has served me well. I did upgrade the graphics card a few years later for $120 (Nvidia GTX 550Ti). I have already made a list of parts to build another computer in the next couple of months as my motherboard is about to die, and it would be a mid-high end gaming machine for $1600. My $600 computer was able to play most games until I started having issues with the motherboard.
  20. 120GB total maximum data transferred per month?!?!? ... Lucky stiff! You've either got a lot of money, or the prices up there in Canada are ridiculously low! Eeeeeennnnnnnnnvvvvvvvvvvyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! ... Us poor USA nuts can't get data plans like what you have for any kind of a reasonable price! On more on-topic notes, I wouldn't go around assuming people have bandwidth to spare like you do. Honestly, I don't think Miner_Guy has anywhere near that much... :geek: ~D. V. "[bleep], GEEZ!" Devnull I think prices in Québec are ridiculously low. I have 20Mb/s internet and HDTV for $105/month while that's what I paid for only the internet in New Brunswick (although N-B doesn't have limits with one of the ISPs). And you're probably right on the amount of bandwidth people have, I probably have much more than Miner_Guy. Then again the only reason I can afford to pay this much for internet/tv is because I decided to go with very small appartment where the rent is quite low compared to the other appartments around here. Like we say, cut somewhere to afford more elsewhere.
  21. Still with today's speeds you never really need to prebuffer. Now that I moved out of the maritme provinces (Canada) I have an internet cap as well, and it's quite low (120GB/month) but enough for me. Never had problems with youtube or any other stream site (like Netflix) that I use. Although, as a normal user, I don't need to jump back.

Looks like the motherboard of my desktop might be dying. Takes multiple tries and a lot of reseating parts to get my computer started. This'll teach me to get the cheapest stuff when building a computer, although I was a student when I built it 5 years ago and I didn't have much money. Now that I have a job, I probably won't have much more money since I bought a car, so I guess I'll have to find a way to get the money for a new build. Guess my laptop and the other 2 desktops (that I got for nothing) will do for now.
  23. Most stuff that fit with ATX will fit with MicroATX, the only limitations usually is less options on the MicroATX like just one PCI-e, or no integrated graphics, or things like that. My budget build from 5 years ago has a MicroATX and the rest is all the same as a normal ATX board. (and yes it I would've gone ATX if it wasn't a budget build in that time).
  24. This is why I usually buy on NCIX with a price match with Newegg. Better service (in case of RMA) and much faster shipping.

Time to bump up this topic a bit. I'm not too technical about cars, but with the car I own since today, I really love how it drives. I might not be as rich as some of you, which means I'm still in the lower end with cars, but I think it looks very good (my new car). You may also notice I changed provinces. Warning for people with small screens: I have not resized the pictures. [spoiler=Old car] Odo in KM of course. [spoiler=New Car]
