What's wrong with him? I think some of his series are entertaining.

Multiple Power Failures
Uhm, you don't need an unlimited budget either, and neither did I and my parents. Heck, you might need about $200 maximum, honest! Look at CyberPower's GreenPower UPS @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102070 to see an example of what I mean. Further, replacement batteries cost a mere fraction of the price of a full unit. Since you only have to replace batteries like once-in-a-blue-moon (3-5 years, or whenever your UPS tells you it's time) for frequency, there isn't much of an issue in that department either. ;) Like I said, not everyone has a good budget, and me living alone and not getting help from my parents, and being a student (yeah I went back to college), I don't have $200. Good for you. Sometimes true, sometimes not... I've actually seen Windows make the ugly mistake of starting up like nothing happened, and on systems here at home as well. :( Which is why I said usually , not always. You're lucky. I'm surprised you haven't had fried hardware yet. Heck, I'll point you to Newegg's Power Protection toplevel @ http://www.newegg.com/Power-Protection/Category/ID-314, so you can find something appropriate to you. :D ~D. V. "Power protection via UPS is not that costly!" Devnull I have surge protectors, they're enough and only cost a few dollars for enough protection. I'll upgrade when something does happen, but they have never failed me.

Business Software
I know of a free software called GLPI although I don't know if it's something like that, that you need. Doesn't fulfill everything you need though.

Multiple Power Failures
The problem is not having the UPS itself, it's the price of a decent UPS unit. Not everyone has unlimited budget like you. If there's something on the HDD caused by a power failure Windows usually detects it and asks you if you want to scan for errors on startup, you don't need to go and do it yourself). And just saying, I have yet to have an issue caused by a power failure, and they happen a bit too often here (one or two each month here).

Multiple Power Failures
I think disks scans after a power failure is a bit of paranoia. it's extremely rare that it'll actually write on a file or cause an error. I have never scanned for errors after a power failure (except when prompted at the windows startup, which doesn't usually happen either), and have yet to have an issue related to a power failure.

HTML5 beta discussion
Yeah but I did buy it when my 9800GT died a few years ago. I usually keep the graphics card when I build a new computer though I'm not sure I'm going to do it for my next build. On some games the bottleneck is significant, because of the processor, but other times I can see the graphics card working at 95% of it's power.

Lol they say they've seen some mid end pc configurations with decent framerate, funny because my i3 with Nvidia gtx 550ti has about a framerate of 2 and my laptop (i7 with gtx 460m) has about 15 fps.

I hadn't noticed any change with the chicom though. Kept having quite good games with it.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Nah, that's too obvious a password, I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to use that. Then again there are people that use "password" as their only password.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
For security. Simple as that. I've been using special characters in most of my passwords for years.

Multiple Power Failures
No, the power supply doesn't protect against power surges, but usually the surge protector is built in the power bar, if your system and screen(s) are plugged into that.
-
Multiple Power Failures
Yeah but a simple surge protector is enough and much cheaper if these kind of power failures are extremely rare, which I think is the situation where Miner_Guy lives. Yes the UPS is a good idea but unless the power failures are frequent, I wouldn't get one unless I had a server.

If it boots fine, it's probably going to be fine.

Still we talked about it at college and even if you're with a different carrier the connection goes through Bell, even Rogers goes through Bell for internet in Canada, although they have their own cable and fiber lines (yes they do have home fiber plans here). I didn't inform myself on this, but if it's anything like Aliant here (even when it was called NBTel), I think MTS and SaskTel might be owned by Bell too. Anything Sympatico is owned by Bell.

Well it's the same here in Canada, Bell owns all the networking lines in Canada, but at least we have a lot of people pushing the government and the CRTC, such as OpenMedia.ca, to get better connections for a better price, and that's something else, we're in a country with one of the highest prices for internet connections, and that's because we have Bell/Bell Aliant, Rogers, and Telus, and the government stops the competition from coming. If they allowed competition from the US to come here we'd have better prices too, we'd have prices similar to those people pay in the US. That's why there are these organisations pushing the government and not the ISPs, the government are those controlling the ISPs more than anything else.

New Laptop [Lenovo prefered]
I don't know, I've always been a fan of the build quality of Apple products, but I'm not very happy with my recent purchase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpSf8qiRa30 That said, I'm happy with it in every other way. But if you have a limited budget, I'd put what you have towards a non-Apple machine, especially if that's what you're already used to. Interesting. Check my response in the same post below regarding your issue. What's the problem? The problem is that you pay 2 and 3 times the price for the same thing as a computer that already has Windows on it. And it's not just apple products that last long, my old Asus laptop is now 6 years old and still runs like new. In fact, most brands last as long as a macbook because that's the amount of time they're designed to last, which is about 5 years nowadays since they know people will probably have replaced it by that time. Do you have a source for that claim? Where could I get a Windows laptop for 2 to 3 times cheaper that: Has the same specs as a MacBook Pro. Has the same, sturdy build quality (anodized aluminum, trackpad made from glass, NO bezel around the screen that sticks out, etc.) I get to talk to a person that speaks fluent English perfectly well, whenever I need support. -- @@Miss Lioness There's a reason Macs are typically the choice for university students. Go to your nearest Apple Store, try one out. Look up some of the features of the operating system. It allows you to be very organized. I have however, heard good things about Lenovo, too. As a student with student needs, you can't really go wrong with a Lenovo laptop. Wouldn't almost any choice/model do? I don't have to go far. My $1300 Asus ROG laptop has the same specs as my friend's $3000 Macbook Pro. Also, even if it's very small, I've never seen a macbook without a screen bezel. My Asus might not be completely in Aluminum, but it is hard, thick plastic with good quality. Also, I spoke with someone from Ontario which was fluent in english when I was doing some warranty stuff. We both upgraded our laptops later though, both added a SSD, and my Windows loads in about 10 seconds before being ready to be used, which is shorter than my friend's macbook pro. And where did I buy it? NCIX.com. Also the reason why OSX seems to work better than Windows is that all laptops of the same model, with Apple, have the same hardware, which means the same drivers, which isn't true when it comes to Windows because they have to support thousands if not hundred of thousands of different hardware specifications. When it works good, like on all the computers I've had, it never crashes. And you still failed to list specs. I don't want to sound rude or criticizing, but without specs, your argument holds no water. I have personally used both the Windows operating system and Mac's OS X for many years. OS X, hands down, is much more efficient for a professional/work environment. Yes, I know this isn't laptops, and yes, I know, this is an OLD picture, but it's still true, False. Let me fix "Can become a Mac": "Can illegally become a Mac". Fixed. Not to mention, that's why you're supposed to buy a base model and upgrade it on your own. Except the base model already costs more than the other one that has the full specs. I don't know why someone would install Mac OSX* on something else than a Mac though.
