Well I am little disappointed that it seems quest is just a experience bonus and nothing more but I am very happy to see jagex continuing to add high level content (sad when 70 reqs is considered high for quests). Maybe Jagex had a discussion with WOW last year and found out that adding high level content is not going to make everyone hate your game and quit. I'm sure the discussion went something like such: One year ago: It was a dark and cold night out in the woods. Fog covers the ground and a WOW CEO waits alone. *CRACK* a branch breaks near him. CEO: MMG is that you? MMG: Yes, sorry about this meeting being so far away but I can't let anyone know about this meeting. WOW CEO: Oh its okay I'm impressed to see your game doing so well? What has been your marketing success? MMG: Our secret is we only update entry level material so new players keep coming in while completely ignoring those that have donated much of their time. Its the only way to keep players interested. WOW CEO: Hmmm that is strange we rarely update low level content and actually focus mostly on higher level stuff. Players seem to stay really interested. MMG: ORLY? Well now that I know that. MODS ASSEMBLE!!!!!!! Out of the bushes five mods dressed in all black emerge. WOW CEO: Whats going on here? MMG: I told you I can't let anyone know about our meeting and now that we have your secret there is no further use for you. Kill him. WOW CEO: WHAT?!?! This is MA.... *SLASH* A homemade abyssal whip cracks and the CEOs head is sent flying in the air. It lands and rolls to MMG's feet. MMG: Well it looks like we might have a heads up on WOW now *MUWAHAHAHAHHAHA* Pretty sure it went something like that.

Well with the new addition to mining it is actually a afkable skill though by no means as easy as wcing (but really there is no comparison for how easy they made it) and I've always loved mining just hated the dropping ores part (raised most of it back in the days of rc where ores just dropped on the ground for you).

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
Ed_Warrior replied to The Observer's topic in General Discussion
Think your hypothetical lvl 3 would have a real hard time winning using only bronze armor and 10hp. Very disappointed in Jagex for changing it back especially in the cases of safe minigames where nothing is even lost if you die. These would be great in Castle Wars when someone is holding onto the flag to one hit kill them. If they feel so strongly against this why do we just go start making it so claws and AGS can't be using in PVP worlds because obviously it isn't fair to the players that don't have the cash to buy these weapons. Also forgot to mention that with this update it actually made it seem like it might be worth starting to use spirit shield in PVP (Only item with damage reduction) to prevent being one-hit. -
New prayers: Strength of the Cabbage - 30% increase in strength (Not sure how it works but popeye has his spinach so we should get cabbage) Saturday Night Fever - Level 99 - All players within your view are overcome with the urge to dance (Not sure about you but I would use this all the time).

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
Ed_Warrior replied to Mdeoxys's topic in General Discussion
Love the update. I've been desiring nontradable high level content and hope this is a trend we will see more of with consumption skills (fletching, smithing & crafting). Hope this is something we see much more of. As much as I love the update material I still think there are few things that need to be worked out. The problems with this update are I consider myself to have a high herblore level at 80 and I can't make one of these potions. I could overlook this problem if it wasn't for the much bigger problem of supply and demand. Herblore was already so expensive to level and now it is going to be even more expensive. Plus It is nearly impossible to get herbs right now and I have a feeling that will last for awhile since herbs are a slower item to enter the game and so many players aren't even close to the level. What they needed to do was enter someway to counter balance this. Maybe something like with shards where there is a person that you could trade potions too that would exchange you back a percent of the raw ingredients back or cash (though cash still gives you the problem of not enough herbs to go around). A possibility is to make it so that he will start to trade at a 0/10 ratio (every 10 potions you give him you get nothing back) and every 10 levels it goes up by 1 potion so 90+ you get 9/10 (9 raw ingredients for every 10 potions you trade). This would allow people to keep herbs but also not make it so new herbs aren't obsolete. The other alternative is to create a new way to train that is cheaper but perhaps slower experience since herblore is pretty fast if you have the cash. Regardless something needs to be done. -
"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Ed_Warrior replied to Da_Latios's topic in Off-Topic
Maleficus1055 I'm assuming you are young since you are still in school and the situation you just described is something that I can only imagine at a young age. Since you were really only going out for a short period of time I wouldn't say it was a huge betrayal. Perhaps she did like both your friend and you and wanted to test each of you out before making a decision on who to pursue a relationship with. It isn't terrible in my opinion for someone to date around and find the right person as long as they aren't leading you on to the idea that you will spend the rest of your lives together. So my advice is for you to decide which was more important to you the friendship with her or the relationship and depending on your choice decide how you want to deal with her in the future (In my experience I've always tried to keep the friendship). Either way I must say that was quite an interesting story I also had to draw a diagram to keep everyone together. -
Why wouldn't the monsters of runescape follow the same hp*hp they after all are made up of stats like ours. I was talking about a complete overhaul of the combat system pvp and pvm. The way it works now in order to make stronger weapons and monsters it means they are just going to one hit. Not sure why anyone would think raising the reqs of weapons would be a logical or practical idea. It would cause a HUGE crash in the market as all the players that once could use the item dumped it, since they are no longer able to use it. As well as many players would likely quit feeling cheated by jagex. This really is a lose/lose situation lower levels get mad higher levels really don't care.

Its a well known fact that Jagex needs to fix a lot of the end game content. Luckily it seems they have realized that new skills added need to have the time taken to be very well developed instead of just pumping them out every year which is my best guess to the mystery and length of the current new skill being worked on. With that said many of the area of the game I've felt for a long time need to be completely reworked. To please both sides Jagex needs to stop releasing small updates to skills and string together much larger fixes with both end game content and mid level content so both sides are happy with the update. Further they need to get away from all these skills making items that are sellable and make skills benefit the player with the level only (summoning being a good example with only being able to summon scrolls with correct level). An example being for smithing adding something to the game like adding [bleep]es to armor and making those items non-tradable, with the option of removing the [bleep]es if player decides to sell item. Low levels could do the bronze and iron [bleep]es and they would be happy. High levels could add rune [bleep]es which could be equiped to all armors and they would also be happy. Last it would give players a reason to train smithing since only players with the proper level could add them. Adding both lower level and high level content is the only way I see Jagex releasing new end game material without upsetting the masses. Now there have been countless forums on ideas for adding new content I won't even bother suggesting anything non-combat related. Now for combat it is and has been broken for a long time. They just screwed up with this all around. It has been said over and over in the forum items with that low of requirments should be able to do what they do. With that said they need to scrap the current way of how damage and life is generated and start anew. My suggestion is to make your hp based on hp*hp (lvl 10 hp would have 100 hp while 99 would have 9801). With this we have now opened a huge increase in the difference of hp between players and made the higher levels of hp worth the training. Now that the the low hit points in the game have been fixed they can fix the way that weapons do damage. Not going to come up with how much damage each weapon will do but a two hit should no longer exist with the items we currently have unless it is a 120+ hitting a 60-80 combat. There are plenty of smart people out there that can come up with a much more balanced system for damage if hp was changed this way. Next defence needs to do just that. Instead of making it less likely for a strike to hit you make defence reduce the damage done to a player and the same can apply to armors defence (though the two should vary with defence levels reducing more than armor points). This would also allow for a fix in the huge damage being done and also allow way for another new combat skill like dodge which would provide the chance that damage be avoided all together. I truly feel that as far as combat goes Jagex really needs to alter the way they are run to make the game more exciting and get away from all these one hits. Now on to the weapons fixes if Jagex were to do the above mentioned change to hp the amount of damage a weapon does could be altered drastically. This being said jagex could start to work more on specializing weapons. The introduction of attack styles is so wasted in this game. There are few weapons in this game that are the end all weapons. Make it so choosing the right type of attack is really worth it. If they were to say that using the right style did 150% damage while adding in a bad style that did reduced (75% damage) people would be more inclined to purchase more weapons to use. Further make weapons designed for killing specific monsters. Godswords should do bonus damage in the GWD. Make a dragon slaying weapon that does better against dragons. Make more monsters that ranging/maging is the best method for killing. All groups of monsters should have weapons that do better on them that are worth using instead of the whip being the end all for weapons. That is just my ideas for ways to fix the game I'm sure many of these things could be further expanded on and improved with more thought from others. But honestly Jagex needs to do something.

I got two FML moments in runescape both were phats I lost. Yeah should of been more careful with them but meh its just a game after all. Back in the old day when random events had just been added to the game I was not to careful with items and was wcing with a blue partyhat on. Well of course before random events it wasn't uncommon to click the tree and just surf the web. Well bad idea after random events have been added so I was wearing no armor and blue phat when ent got summoned and killed me. FML My other FML moment was when I was playing pest control with a green phat. A safe minigame so no worries to lose items right. Wrong I was in the game before it was about to end and got dced before the game ended and when it did end got sent out by the boat where another random event happened to visit me and once again kill me. So I had the pleasure of logging on and discovering I had lost my green phat. FML

Prayer update, is it around the corner?
Ed_Warrior replied to joker2022's topic in General Discussion
As has been mentioned I think the prayer update has already happened but I would love to see new prayers. There are still ones that could always be added. Make a high level prayer where you cant be frozen, make a high level prayer that makes you immune to all types of damage but you are unable to attack back (50% block for pvp), could have one where when activated 10% of opponents damage is reflected back. There are plenty of ideas but I do feel that a lot of the older skills need work to fill in useful things for those higher levels. -
I say they should just make it back the way it was in classic. Let me drop the stupid ores on the ground automatically.
-
Why do people think that the programming for fm-x is going to be that hard everything is there from other skills but the moving but that is an automatic response anyways so all they would have to do is make it wait long enough for you to move off the log you lit. If you hit an obstacle it would just default to what it already does if there is an obstacle in the way and stops burning logs. I mean when you tell it to do X on anything it doesn't freak out when it runs out of supplies just say you can no longer do the skill it would be the same with this just instead of running out of supplies you would be blocked by something. With the way things are going I bet that this option will be available very soon.
-
This disappoints me I just spent the last couple months killing my wrist to get 99 prayer asking why is there not a prayer-x and like a week after I get 99 prayer this happens. That is just bad luck.

My guess is it will be designed like Recipe for Disaster with many small quests put together. But after finishing a part of the quest you will unlock something new related to the main skill needed for the portion. Example new trees to cut or new mining areas. Therefore you are required to have high levels in all the skills to complete the quest but you won't miss out on the quest entirely if you have some low skills. It also allows everyone to benefit from the quest. Then at the finish of the quest you would be rewarded some new equipment most likely dragon plate.
-
I know what the glitch is. You can't pass the mysterious room. When you finish the puzzle it doesn't pull switch. I wasted two hours trying to do this part of quest because I thought I was doing it wrong.

Yup lol. My first memory is accidentally clicking on a goblin and freaking out. I did that several times. My favorite early memory is going to al kharid guards and being told I need to pay 10 gp to pass. I was like come on what am I made of money Ill walk around (since walking was all people know of back then). I do miss the days of the old learning curve. What do you want to be? Ummm a miner. OK heres a pickaxe you are now lvl 8 in mining go find the mines yourself. Of course they were nowhere close to where you started out. Man I remember wondering around for hours looking for them.

Played runescape here since the beginning. Played WoW for two years. My advice is to play one till it is boring then switch. WoW is vastly better in graphics, teamwork and combat imo. But after you reach 70 unless you want to start a new character it gets old real fast. Plus to do anything for high levels it takes a guild and a planned schedule to play. This can be really annoying especially if you are in college. Reason I prefer runescape and have kept with it is just the fact that I love the skills it allows. I want to be able to do tons of skills and own a house in a MMORPG. Runescape allows this so I keep playing but I'm sure I'll play WoW again when they increase the max level to 80. So if you got the time I suggest you try the free trial and see if you like it. Its a fun game and if you don't care for it whatever you can still play Runescape or if you have the cash play both.

[hide=] Or if those aren't high enough, make a GLORY amulet, grow and chop a MAGIC tree, smith a rune/adamant bar, get over 100 tears in Tears of Guthix, complete a lap of the Dorgeshuun agility course (it's under Lumbridge, not sure if that will be in range or not)... If there are high level activities in Varrock, there damn well are high level activities in Lumbridge. i take it you did't read that the high task isen't going to be hard at all? anyways. in my time of playing this must be the best month ever. nothing i don't like [/hide] Looks like someone is having a hard time reading as well . They were discussing what hard task could be not what they are going to be since there aren't any. Only thing I'm excited about is new bank. But with that being said I'm really excited about it. Also did anyone else get a chuckle about how they were talking about your first memories of runescape being tutorial island? I was like "tutorial island? Oh yeah joined way before that."

"Refining/secondary" skills not rewarding enough?
Ed_Warrior replied to nightzero's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much my feeling on the best way to revive all these skills that are money sinks is to just make them have some sort of benefit that you get that others cannot use. I posted huge reply in green's thread about what I would like to see and Im sure all of you could come up with other ideas as well. I just feel at this point it would be to difficult to find a way to make these skills profitable so they should just try and make it so you get something out of it for spending all that money. -
This has been something Ive actually being thinking about for quite awhile but was far to lazy to ever type a whole idea up for it. At this point many skills are lost to changing it around to make a profit so I personally feel Jagex needs to do the next best thing and do as many of your suggestions state. Make more high level and even low level items that can only be used if you have the required level. Some of the things I think could also work are: Prayer: some type of divine shield prayer that makes you immune to all attack but at the cost of being unable to attack. This would have to either be like other prayers where in pvp you take 50% of damage or just make it unable to be used in pvp minigames. I think they should add higher level hp recovery such as 4x and 8x. Perhaps a immunity to poison prayer that reduces the damage or slows the damage down (do not make it cure poison since we have book that does that already and potions). I think they should also make it so higher level players can bless items which would could give bonus damage vs undead so something along those lines. In all reality there is tons they could add to prayer and it is unfortunate that this skill is one of the originals yet has still been so primitive. Construction: I agree they need to add in more things that have a benefit with skills they started it out nicely with some items and then just did nothing in the higher levels. Agility: Exactly how I felt need to add in more shortcuts that are really beneficial. The crossbow shortcuts are kind of pointless because who really carries a crossbow and grapple all the time. I hardly ever remember that I can use these. Perhaps access to areas that provide good items (climb a cliff that is close to rune rock or gold mine that is close to bank). This is skill I wish they would add in something to make it really beneficial to have high. Herblore: Like the ideas that are there so far. I always wanted a super combat potion (super attack and strength in one) and this could be untradable. All higher level players know the use of freeing up 1 or 2 inventory spaces so this would be something they would want. Further perhaps more specialized poisons like ones that drain prayer or do damage faster but at lower damage (2 damage every 5 seconds or something). They could also work it out by allowing higher level herbalist to be able to poison more weapons (95 herbalist could poison whip). Allowing higher level herbalist to poison new weapons would really revive this skill as something players desire. Thieving: Pretty much how I feel I have 99 thieving but always feel like it really doesn't do much other than look pretty. I wish there were more doors that I could pick that allowed me access to some area of benefit. Crafting: I've always felt that if they made it so gems could go in armors to provide benefits. Like if they added in different elemental attacks such as magic attacks but to all attack forms (fire giants do fire damage, moss giants to earth damage, etc). It would have to be same level to insert and again making items untradable (sapphire=water, emerald=earth, ruby=fire, diamond=air dragonstone=25% of all, onyx=50% of all) something like this but put far more work into it than just what I suggested. Also if they allowed for the ability to add items like the [bleep]es but to other parts of the range gear and make those untradable. Last I wish they would make a high level ring/amulet that was untradable with really good benefits. Fletching: Like the idea of better arrows. I think they could also add in perhaps better strings to the bows that increase their damage and these bows would be untradable. At like 95 you could do this to a darkbow to add this better string. Or they could also just make it that you make better bows than the standard. Hunting: I feel that they need more creatures that can be hunted to use as benefit. Higher level [bleep]es that can be added to armor things along this line. Smithing: Just like other skills that produce items. I like the metal [bleep]e idea being added and at different levels you could be able to add them to different pieces. I doesn't need to stop there they should center around many other additions to armors and weapons that make the items have some benefit and then untradable. Fishing/cooking: I think they should work together here by adding in perhaps higher level fish that heal more and make these untrable providing high level fishers and cookers the ability to a better food source. Firemaking: As everyone has said flaming weapons would be awesome perhaps adding to the use of elemental resistance and damage to further develop combat. Woodcutting: New higher level tree that can be cut to produce untradable bow if player has required fletching could be idea here. Something like this woodcutting really isn't to bad of skill just kind of boring but not really sure how they could spice it up. Farming: As you can guess with my reoccurring theme make higher level plants that can be farmed that are again untradable and used in higher level herbalism or we could just skip that and make like various poisonous plants that can just be rubbed on weapon to provide different poison benefits. Of course the ideas on which they could improve skills is endless and with my ideas here levels would need to be worked out. But I think right now the best way for Jagex to improve the use of all these skills is to focus away from adding new items that can be bought and sold and rely on more items that are untradable but provide benefit to the player with the desired level. Also sorry for the long post I didn't want it to be this long since I know most people will see it and not read it due to the length but as I said Ive been thinking about this for long time.

Thanks for the advice that was one of the things I wondered because Im losing about 8-10 a dragon and they cost me like 500gp to make so Im pretty much breaking even with hides and bones but would like to do better than that.
-
I recently started killing black dragons and currently Im using enchanted diamond bolts. I was wondering if someone that has perhaps used other ones could offer some advice on other bolts. The ones Ive consider where pearl, emerald, and ruby. With pearl I want to know if you do get bonus damage for dragons being a fire creature or does it just do normal damage. The emerald and ruby I want to know how beneficial they are to use. Cost is a factor to consider too since the diamond bolts are nice but pretty costly. Thank you for the advice and help.

There are in my opinion a few things that would cause a crash. First being a new skill that requires heavily on resources such as Con. After the release of it there was a huge decline in the rares market and many goods were sold cheaper to buy planks. It was a decent drain on the economy. Causing a apparent crash in the rare market. Next would be an abused glitch such as the phat dupping that happened years ago and phats were nothing to buy. This was the closest thing to a true market crash RS has ever seen many people lost tons of money due to their investments in rares. Last would be a lack of anything new to spice up the market. If there are no new items to cause people to spend their money on then after all the rich people have bought the items they start to drop so that the supply of them is still being sold. If items that people hunt drop in prices then they make less money for them so its harder to get rich. If less people are making the money to buy the rares the rares have to drop so that they can meet the demand. This just happens till a minimum price is reached. This however doesn't mean the market is crashing just reaching an equilibrium but since prices are still decreasing people will see it as a crash. The new release of the dragon bow and other items will probably spark the market up and we will see a increase in rares since those that can get the dragon bows will be making a lot of money for their time thus having more money to spend on a rare. So there you have it my longer than planned reason for why people say the market might be crashing. But just a side note in reality there is never going to be a market crash in RS a real market crash would mean everything dropped to nearly no money and we lost most of our possessions. Since when you buy something in RS you can't use credit it is impossible for you to just lose it. Plus high alchemy gives a bench mark price that is the absolute minimum where in a real market things can always become cheaper. The reason people call it a market crash is that most items are decreasing in price but this isn't a crash just a move towards market equilibrium.

Since when has the Runescape Community become a bunch of....
Ed_Warrior replied to DegenerateX's topic in General Discussion
I understand your bad luck Ive had worse encounters with people Ive met. Any time I meet someone in this game and try to befriend them I get scammed even the ones Ive know for a year. Took me several times to finally just decided people can't be trusted. Ive just learned not to lend things to anyone I don't know in real life and even then I hesitate.
