  1. F2P doesn't only earn that for Jagex. How many members would have become members in the first place if they couldn't try out the game. F2P is Jagex's marketing strategy, the ads are only an added bonus, IMO. Also, Jagex still gets paid, whether the ad is displayed or not. They can't detect whether you're using AdBlock at all. Even blocking Firefox wouldn't stop that, since you can easily just get an adblocker on IE or even disguise Firefox as IE with a program.
  2. Great logic there, honestly. In fact, why don't you just grab an uzi and start murdering hobos as well? Statistics have shown that homeless people are more likely to participate in violent crime. Like you said, massacre the hobos! Yahoo!! \ Cut out the homeless people at the source and we'll have a better world. :D
  3. I'm selfish because I valued Saruman44 over some gp? When the heck did he ever say you were the selfish people he was talking about? That's like going to a site for children with cancer and going "LOL DUUD I DONT HAV CANCER LOL!!!!!" I have to agree with that statement 100%. It's impossible for a friend to hack you, because if somebody hacks you who you thought was a friend, then you (as in most people) wouldn't see them as a friend any more, therefore you were not hacked by a friend. And anyway, if I value in-game money and items more than any friends, what gives you the right to declare me an idiot? If I had the view that life is futile because we're all gonna die anyway, and therefore I can hack other people's accounts as I please, what are you going to do? Punch me through your monitor? Or flame me, declare me an idiot because I have a different opinion to you and chase me out of the Tip.it community?
  4. You'd need separate channels for armour, food, herblore ingredients, ores, etc. One big trade channel would just be too hard to read. And someone should make a directory of useful clan chat channels.
  5. Not everybody follows Christianity or Judaism. I personally do, but that's beside the point. If I were to read the set of "I'd rather you didn't"s from the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gospel ... ti_Monster ) then would you be forced to follow it as the gospel? No. Why should the Ten Commandants be different? Ding dong?
  6. Where is this universal book defining what is or is not rude? If you tell someone else to do something, e.g. not stand in your square, then why can't they tell you to log off? You can't accuse them of being ethically wrong, because there is no universal set of ethics. They can make up and follow any ethics they choose to, and you can't force your opinions on them.
  7. I'll play devil's advocate and ask you how you can expect them to behave how you want them to but not vice versa. You expect them to not steal your monster while they expect you to swap worlds. You don't do what they want you to, so why should they do what you ask of them?
  8. Thanks for all the help. :) Now to start buying those easter eggs... I mean, write that article...
  9. You have to teleport/walk to Lumbridge and find the Doomsayer. He's usually walking around near to the Lumbridge Guide. Right-click him and select 'Toggle warnings'. You have to have visited a place a couple of times to toggle off the warnings. If you ahve visited a place often enough, the red X over the place buttons (on the interface you get when you talk to him) will be gone. You can just click teh buttons to turn warnings on or off.
  10. I was wondering whether price manipulation by, e.g. buying up a lot of a certain item is against Jagex rules. Note that I mean if you do not break any other rules outlined in the official code of conduct, such as you are not intentionally dishonest while doing this. I also don't want a 'of cors it is you nub' type answer, I want an official statement saying that intentionally manipulating the market is/isn't against the rules. And no, I don't have the funds or the motive to do this anyway, I just want to know for an article I'm writing.
  11. Correlation <> Causation. Just because the one guy decided to become a pure and stopped talking to you at the same time doesn't mean that him becoming a pure had anything to do with the lack of conversation, in the same way that the fact that global temperatures have risen while the number of pirates have decreased doesn't mean that a lack of pirates causes global warming. 'Nuff said.
  12. For a requirement, a screen would pop up with about a paragraph of text and a textbox, and you have to type over the paragraph EXACTLY. You would only get three chances, and we could call it the 'Literacy Test', almost like in KoL. There should be statues of Tip.it's founders and a library with all the guides. There should also be a lounge-like room where there are chairs that you can actually sit on and a bar where you can get free Asgarnian Ale. There should also be rooms for the TET, the Admins, the Mods, etc., a museum with all the items in the item database and a zoo containing the bestiary.
  13. I like the puns. After all, Jagex mods brood for a while to bring up all these lovely puns for us, we shouldn't ruffle our feathers and get all warm-blooded and emu over a few... I'll spare you. Personally I think it adds a bit of humour to the site and cheers it up a bit, and I see no reason why anybody would be irritated by it.
  14. I disagree. I haven't been around long enough to see the change happening, but I can tell you I wouldn't have liked RSC or the old Tip.it. It sounds horrile to know everyone in the game by name. How did you sell your steel bars or your feathers? I love the sheer number of people in RS2 and the anonymity. If I knew the people that were mining with me know me and my friends and my net worth and my mining level, I just wouldn't feel as free to chat about random things with random people. In Tip.it, I think that the number of people in Tip.it have brought a bigger amount of differing views and opinions. I agree that there are too many spammy topics though, but all we need to do to solve that is to update the spam rule to include topics that are poll-like and that offer no discussion potential. EDIT: For example, here are some I found on the front page: I also disagree with the view that the new merged General board has anything to do with these. If you remember, 80% of the topics in the General P2P board were not P2P-specific. Also, the General F2P boards were also almost dead compared to General P2P. I think the merge is more of an elimination of General F2P and just a renaming of General P2P. The old boards were also redundant, for example, did we have F2P Help and P2P Help? Blogscape F2P and Blogscape P2P? No. Why did we need the split for the General boards? So what if there aren't role models, why do we need them? It's not as if it's hard to figure out how to be a good poster and we need other people to show us how. For better or for worse, the number of people will only go up, until RS is finally abandoned and Jagex moves onto another game. If you don't like that, tough, but change happens.
  15. WTF? Since when was total level a measure of maturity? You can train a toddler how to click on rocks mindlessly or how to fish->bank->fish etc. I think Jagex is making a good decision to censor those words, if my parents saw somebody on RS saying those words and they're not blocked then I'll probably be forbidden from playing it ever again. Unfortunately, Jagex is an international company and has to cater for people from all over the world. Just because 'damn' isn't seen as strongly in the UK as in America is no reason that they shouldn't block it. Neither should you assume that because most people have heard those words at age 10-12 everybody has. Is it really so much of an inconvenience to just speak normal language without any even slightly offensive words? That being said, I think Jagex should either block 'gay' and 'straight', or block neither. They might be blocking discrimination by blocking 'gay', but aren't they themselves discriminating by blocking it as well? Sure 'straight' has another meaning, but so does 'gay'.
  16. No offence, but I thought the topic was 'How did you get ur Black Marks?', not 'Post if you have no black marks'. It seems like every second post is just spam saying 'Wow I have no black marks!'. I have 7.5 black marks for macroing when I was level 4. At least it got me from level 2 to around 10 mining in a few hours :XD: But it was pretty much a waste since I was bored so I sat there and just chatted to the other miners to pass the time.
  17. And where did you get that information? I highly doubt that each year Jagex employees sit around a table and Andrew says something like 'Ok guys, this year we will release 10 graphics updates, 4 new minigames and a new skill' or something similiar. I personally also doubt we're going to see any new skills over the next year and a half and I doubt Jagex is working on one right now.
  18. I agree with most of the points made, but I don't think anyone should play RS under the guise of studying. Typing - I agree, but I feel you can learn typing a lot faster by typing out a random book than by the occasional chat in RS. Math - I don't know about the rest of the world, but I use a calculator for almost everything I do that involves math in RS. I could learn a lot more by reading through a maths textbook. History - History isn't just about weapons, and even less about specific medieval weaponry. I also think that at least five children have mentioned mithril, runite, or adamantite in science papers about metals used in the dark ages. Writing - There really is little credibility in this. By watching LOTR you can gather as much writing inspiration as by playing RS for fifteen hours straight. While I also agree that RS might help in learning English or economics, I think you can learn double as much by reading an English magazine or reading just one paragraph from an economics textbook. I agree that RS is good for improving typing speed, math, history and writing to a tiny extent, but it is NOT a time-effective way of learning. To be completely honest, I think anyone can learn a lot more by just sitting at a park bench watching people walk by, or driving around aimlessly, or doing anything really. Saying that RS is educational, while technically true, is misleading and an exagerration.
  19. It would take longer to mine everything per trip, not only because the ores are higher leveled but also because other people might compete with you. Secondly, there's very little demand for addy and mith ore, and even less for gold ore. Selling everything would take far longer than selling just a ton of coal. As well, in the time you mine all that and sell it you might be able to mine 28 coal, bank them and sell them, and mine another 14 or so coal. What do you want, a 20 minute trip mining and selling that, or a 12 minute trip mining and selling the coal? I think coal still gives more profit for your time.
  20. Poke them with a chisel repeatedly \
  21. The new mining animation has gotten slower, but the mining itself is still the same speed. Go to http://forum.[Please Use QuickFind Code].ws?15,16,122,46883181,goto,3, Mod Nexus posted that the ore-getting rate is the same.
  22. By that definition, everything in the universe is useless because it's just made up of quarks and electrons weighing 0.0000000000000000000000000066 grams. Yet, the electrons and quarks are worth more than the sum of their parts, they have a deeper inner value, in the form of people and cars and money and the screens that display the pixels. And that's exactly what Misplacedme is saying in the article, they're worth more than just the pixels, they represent a very real value, however small the value might be. A penny is not just a circular disk of nickel, and a ferrari is not just a big lump of chrome and metal. They can represent value and status. You're not just a blob of water, bones and flesh, you're a person with the ability to help other people and feel emotion. Neither are pixels just pixels, they represent hard work and dedication, and should be valued as such.
  23. They have value? But I thought you said: If you agree that they do have velue, then you agree that they have more meaning than just a few pixels. Also, if pixels provide you entertainment which influences your real life, aren't they then also more than pixels? OT though, I think the Times articles should be posted in the debate club forum *looks up*
  24. True, they won't feed your family or put a roof over your head, but they do still have value. What, essentially, makes real life more important than RS? So far I've gathered: 1. Real life achievements can help other people. 2. Real life achievements affect you longer / more. 3. We cannot avoid real life, while RS is optional. My response to those things are: 1. RS achievements can also help others. If I have high mining and smithing, I can make my friend rune full if he's lost his. If I have high combat, I can protect my friend when he's about to die against an Ankou while he's going to get his Stronghold of Security boots. Granted, helping in real life is far more important than in RS, but that just makes the value less, it doesn't diminish it completely, and your argument is that they have no value at all. 2. Again, this makes the value of RS achievements far smaller, but doesn't take away all the value from them. 3. While you can avoid RS, a lot of people don't, as you can see just looking at these forums. Therefore, people still participate in RS, and we can still use our RS achievements to help them. So, to sum it up, RS achievements might have way less importance than RL achievements, but they do still have some value, and therefore they aren't just pixels.
