Possibly big companys that host several servers which take up hundred of thousands of gbs of space. Hell, even Jagex might have a use for these things.
-
Psh, some how i dont think this will get into the mainstream as it seems to me it will be a rather expensive form of data storeage. Still rather interesting though..
-
http://www.centrecom.com.au They would be a good place to start looking at, they have some of the cheapest prices ive seen on australian sites. Now for something that might suit you. AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (S939) - $215.60 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_27_29&products_id=11477 Gigabyte GA-K8VT890-9 motherboard - $133.10 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_36_63&products_id=13944 WD 200Gb 7200 8Mb Cache SATA Hard Disk - $123.20 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_107_22&products_id=5885 Kingston 1Gb PC3200 DDR Ram - $144.10 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_23&products_id=16856 Gecube ATI Radeon X600XT 256Mb (PCIE) - $149.00 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_26&products_id=16360 Pioneer DVR-110 DVD Re-Writer (16x/8x Dual Layer Black) - $69.30 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_49&products_id=16766 Proview 17" LCD Monitor - $299.00 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_25&products_id=16770 Coolermaster Centurion 5 CAC-T05 Black/Silver (350W True PSU) - $126.50 - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=93_60&products_id=9226 Total - $1259.80 Something like that would be alright for you. I put in a monitor but if your planning to reuse one you have, thats an extra $300 that can be put into other parts. The case i listed there has a 350w psu, im unsure of the psu's brand so it may cause problems. That psu has SATA connecters so it should be able to power your hard drive. So if you dont need a monitor, you can put some money into a better psu like this. And if you dont need that monitor, you could upgrade the graphics card because that one would be alright, but if your able to reuse the monitor, you could upgrade the graphics card. So yes, any one disagree with what ive posted or something isnt compatible with something else? Correct me so he can make a better decision.

Yeah, its not lame, but they way some are going about it is. Flooding each others forums with "eBaums is teh gayz0r" or "YTMND have sex with animals" is what i consider lame. Just thought i would clarify that.
-
The thing that they are getting all rightious about is the fact that he steals things, slaps on his watermark and then gains profit from all this with none of it going back to the people that made the flash/sound file/picture/whatever. As for what started it, he copied this and then put it up on his site here with out giving credit to the maker and putting his little watermark on it. Now this didnt go down with the people at ytmnd so they started trying to take him down and alot of other sites have joined in with them because hes stolen their stuff too. So now its blown up to a full on internet flame war, which is just lame. Hope that answers your question.
-
I think this sums it all up perfectly. http://ebaumsworldsucks.com/ Oh, a forewarning, there is a bit of swearing in this, so if you dont like it, i suggest you dont look at it. If he did end up stealing Maddox's work, it could mess up ebaums world completely, considering the amount of people that read his site, if he made a rant that proposes to boycot ebaum, millions would probably join in and ebaums would go to hell. Oh, btw, YTMND is frigging hilarious, no matter how stupid the things they make are. LolFish. So stupid yet i sat there, looked at it and started laughing :D

Thats a personal opinion, if every one wanted to make a thread for the game they think is the greatest game ever made, tip.it would explode. Well, not explode, but there would be a hell of a lot of unnessecary threads. Eh, ill lay off it. I cant do anything, go on to talk about this game.
-
You should have just had your opinion in the best game of all time thread instead of starting a whole new topic for it.
-
Im average :? Does the lay out of the words have anything to do with it though? Wonder if it would be any different if it was in a single line... Probably not. Nice trick anyway :)
-
Mabey so, but it is used mostly as a pirating tool, and tip.it doesnt support pirating, therefore it may/will get locked.

I also suggest you get Microsoft AntiSpyware, Ad-aware and Spybot search and destroy and run a scan with each of them. MS Anti Spyware - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en I would get you links for the other two, but my internet is being crappy and wont load the pages for me, so either google those other two programs or go to http://www.download.com and do a search for both of those programs there, you should be able to find them. Once youve got all three programs installed, run a scan with each of them and it should pick up most the junk on your computer. And yeah, do what weezcake said, get hijackthis and post a log here, i cant help, but im sure there are others that can. -

He set himself a budget of $2500, so i thought why not go all out? But if you dont really want to spend the whole $2500, something like this might be an alright alternative. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor - $334.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103529 ASUS A8N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - $109.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530 Western Digital Caviar SE 300GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - $120.50 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144393 CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - $195.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145491 eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256-P2-N516 Video Card - $299.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130256 BenQ Black E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model 1650V - $17.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101668 BenQ Black IDE DVD Burner Model DQ60 BK - $38.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101002 Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 430W Power Supply - $69.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103928 SAMSUNG 915N-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor - $348.95 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001185 Total - $1534.41 Thats about $1000 off your budget and it would still be able to run what ever you throw at it smoothly, or atleast it should run what ever you throw at it smoothly. I didnt include speakers, mouse, keyboard or case in the list because i thought you might like to pick them yourself. So if you dont want to spend the whole $2500, a set up like that might suit you well. -
Im not sure, but this will probably get locked as pirating isnt allowed here.

Who cares? The fool cant even spell it right, last time i checked there was no Y in bloodvelds

Dont resort to formating yet. Did you try to get rid of it with a virus scanner? If you dont have one, i suggest you get AVG Free Edition. Install that and do a scan in safe mode. To get to safe mode, hit F8 rapidly on start up and when you should get a list with a bunch of start up options, pick safe mode and run the virus scan from there. If your wondering what safe mode it, its windows but is using the bare essentials to run, so hopefully the virus wont start up, but i cant guarentee this. Also, are you using limewire free? If you are, get rid of it, its rubbish. <mod edit - software piracy references here are NOT allowed! ~Albosky> So dont resort to a wipe of your hard drive yet, there is still help out there :) Off topic: 100 posts. About time, its only taken me about a year or something :P

Well mr. Punk4ever, thats 2,000 dollars should be going on a desktop, not a laptop, but generally, if you have a laptop thats 4 years old, it will be outdated... i am using a company laptop and it's cutting edge, but in about... 1 year, it'll be half of what it's now Well Mr. fullmetaboy, i would love to see him carry around a $2000 desktop around his school for school work. Did you even read what he said? He said he wants it for uni, meaning he will most likely be wanting to take it to classes and if its just needed for school work, which im guessing will be word documents and such, it doesnt need to be a cutting edge laptop. I suggest you read what is said before posting something that makes you look like a fool. Think before you post next time.

Calling all C programmers, help me = flail + 100k

Quadruple post, go you. Just edit your first post with updates on what youve managed to do next time. I was going to suggest to you to use remote shut down, but then i realised your not on windows. As for programming, i know nothing of it, so i cant hope you there. Mabey get a trusted family member or freind to go to your house and switch it all off? I dunno, just a suggestion. Im not much help, but i hope you get it all sorted out with minimal loss. -

Stuart_G replied to Kinslayer777's topic in Tech and Computers
I dont like the looks of that set up at all, why you may ask? Well heres why. It is absurd to spend nearly $1000 on the motherboard, its a dual socket one yet your only suggesting he buys one processor which is leaving one empty. Just that alone is a big wast of his budget, and as it says, it is a motherboard for a server, not an every day machine for word docos, gaming, ect. As for the processor, it is also more suited for a server situation so it isn't really needed in an every day computer, as said above. You also picked out a geforce fx 5500 and from what i was told that range of cards sucked. It is a card from two generations back and it would just not cut it with the games there is today. Steer away from a card like that if you intend to game, your much, much better off with something from the geforce 7xxx or radeon x1xxx series. You don't need a CD writer and a DVD writer, that's just a waste of a drive bay, you'd be better off to just get rid of the CDRW all together and just get a second DVDRW, a plain old DVDROM or just have the single drive. Floppy... floppy discs are the most useless form of data storage there is IMO, because i have bought a pack of 10, only half of them would work, only reason to have one of them in a computer is for drivers if the need arises. The sound card seems decent so that's something you could use, or you could just opt for the on board sound on your motherboard. As for hard drive, with another $70-80 you could get a 300gb hard drive, which is twice of what you listed. And the power supply in the case could cause problems as it is most likely a no name brand psu and my understanding is to steer clear of those as they usually aren't as stable as a better quality one from a brand such as antec. There are my reasonings. My major gripe with the parts you listed is that the motherboard and cpu aren't necessary and are a waste of money. Its a dual socket motherboard yet you only listed one cpu, which seems like a waste of $1k to me. The cpu isn't needed either as you could just opt for an X2 which would be better suited for his needs and with the money you would save from ditching that mother board and cpu, you could put that money into a decent graphics card from one of the current generations, a nice new monitor, keyboard, mouse, speaker system or what ever else you may want to spend it on. If you or any one else disagrees with what i wrote or what i wrote was wrong, correct me so he can make a good decision. -
If you log out and go to the main gmail page you'll see a counter :D That has been incrementing since April 1 of last year :D Ah, so thats what that thing is, i actually never read what it said therefore didnt realise its how much space you get  Oh well.
-
Hey, i just noticed that its now 2.6gb of space and not the 1gb i had when i joined. Eh, ive got 100 more invites for people who may want them.
-
Not a complete waste of money, it might not have made it able for you to play the game, but its still going to help you with every day tasks and it will let you run more things at once. Did you make sure the ram you bought matched what you already had? That might be a problem, but mismatched ram shouldnt really make much difference. As for a new graphics card This one if you have a PCI-e 16x slot This one if you have a AGP 8x slot They are two relatively good cards for a decent price. If you have the money, they might be worth looking into.

Watercooling is un-needed. He said that he doesnt intend to over clock his system and it should all run at a stable temperature on stock cooling. Even if it does start to get a bit too hot, he can just add in a couple of extra case fans to cool it down. Heres a list of parts that i think would suit you nicely. ASUS A8N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - $109.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - $497.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103546 CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - $239.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145574 Western Digital Raptor 74GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - $155.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144160 Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - $99.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144154 SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800XT 100134 Video Card - $489.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102629 BenQ Black E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model 1650V - $17.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101668 BenQ Black IDE DVD Burner Model DQ60 BK - $38.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101002 Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 430W Power Supply - $69.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103928 SAMSUNG 915N-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor - $348.95 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001185 Total - $2145.89 Thats just what i would choose with a budget like yours and youve still got $400-ish to spend if things dont match or you can find something that suits you better. I didnt add in a case because its something youll have to look at on a near daily basis, so you might as well choose something you like and not what i would pick. If any one else finds something wrong with what ive written, just correct me. -
How about these numbers? Hardware Sales (platform - this week - last week - 2005 total - 02 ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 05 LTD) 1 Nintendo DS 597,628 - 408,770 - 3,761,175 - 5,256,771 2 PSP 161,332 - 95,689 - 2,089,869 - 2,572,221 3 PlayStation 2 97,475 - 55,342 - 1,890,200 - 11,295,406 4 GameCube 36,646 - 17,849 - 260,601 - 3,143,741 5 GameBoy Advance SP 35,764 - 19,098 - 680,264 - 5,675,317 6 Game Boy micro 19,261 - 14,432 - 403,854 - 403,854 7 Xbox360 5,674 - 8,623 - 58,267 - 58,267 8 Gameboy Advance 906 - 416 - 24,733 - 4,553,111 9 Xbox 141 - 182 - 11,895 - 472,330 Now compare those two numbers that are in bold, they are what each handheld has sold in total. Now with the DS roughly selling 2.6 million more than the PSP, they must be doing something right. Source: http://ds.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=3094

If your going to do some serious gaming, onboard graphics just wont cut it. You'll most likely have to go out and buy a new graphics card of some sort. All the other parts look ok, but if you were going to game, you should have got an AMD, but seeing as youve already got a pentium, you might as well use it. So yeah, a new graphics card of some sort. Find out if youve got AGP or PCI-e and what your budget is for a new graphics card and I or someone else can suggest a card to you.

I didnt think it was possible, but a triple post WITH caps lock on and information that is wrong and irrelevant. Dont post unless you have half an idea of what your on about. If you dont want to go and fork out your hard earned cash for norton, i recomend that you look into AVG Free Ive used it for ages and its been very good, they update often, its using about 10mb of system memory and uses next to nothing from your cpu. Try it out if your after decent free virus protection.
