  1. raven, I've got news for you: We do not choose who we are attracted to. If I find some girl attractive then that's the way I perceive attractiveness. Do I choose to see her that way? No, I "just do". Same for gays, it's not a choice.
  2. Beats my stats and I played for over 3 years  Very nicely done
  3. Ever since the unbalanced trade removal I've been doing solo armadyl trips. Generally I do 2 kills and sometimes I can make it to 3. This time, while I was trying to do a 3rd kill I was completely out of brews and had 1 dose of sup restores but luckily I hit 2 good diamond specs so I was able to kill Kre'arra. Thank god I took the risk: Plate or hilt next?
  4. Who are you going to trust? Ingame warnings or angry ranters who's goal it is to prove a point?
  5. it would be awesome to be able to give people crabs I can't believe you went there. :wall: He probably didn't mean it that way.
  6. Here you go: [hide]Summoning: Part 4 - Release [comic strip image] Summoning: Part 4 - Release In this, the fourth and final Summoning Development Diary, we look at how anticipation has been built up for Summoning, including everything from birds' eggs to bulldogs. Episode IV: A New Hype Back in 2006, May's Behind the Scenes showcased a game engine update, two new random events, Swan Song and Royal Trouble. Tucked in at the very end was one sentence: "We are also adding some other smaller features to the game later this month, such as clockwork toys for your cats, teleportation tablets, making your own cups of tea and even chairs you can sit down in." "By not mentioning upcoming updates, less players talk about them. Releasing information provokes conversations on the Forum, and gets people talking and speculating." Mod Mark RuneScape Content That sentence was the only hint that Construction was arriving three weeks later. This is the way that we generally release skills ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ with little or no promotion and 'hype'. Doing it in this fashion comes with many benefits; the unexpected release is enjoyable to many members, and reading the Forums, once we have surprised you all, is certainly fun! While there is a lot to gain by doing it this way, a lot is also lost. The initial rush and excitement of finding out a skill has been released soon disappears. "Also, by not mentioning upcoming updates, less players talk about these positive things. Releasing information provokes conversations on the Future Updates Forum, and gets people talking and speculating," says Mod Mark, Senior Game Developer. Players can eagerly talk about what Summoning will entail, what creatures they want to Summon and even what a wolpertinger is. "Some people also like to plan their training. For something as game-affecting as Summoning, which crosses over with every skill and even changes our Combat level calculation, players appreciate the notice," says Mod Mark. Every Dog Has His Day Changes were made to how we hinted at Summoning, mainly because of a bulldog. Web Content's Mod Kinder and Graphics's Mod Jamie created a front page advert that showed a character typing something into the Knowledge Base search engine. We knew that curious players would do the same, so we had some fun ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ we made that word 'bulldog'. A Knowledge Base page was then introduced with an animated image of the bulldog pet from Summoning. [image] It was so popular on the Forums that we decided to change our approach, promoting Summoning more strongly. Not everyone was so keen on that idea at first, most notably RuneScape Content's Mod Wilson, developer of Summoning: "I had that pang of regret that we weren't just going to throw it out there unannounced. I really wanted to surprise everyone with the skill and knock their socks off." He was eventually won over, though: "not least because of the bulldog. I have fond memories of a bulldog my uncle owned. She'd just lie at my feet, snoring and farting all day." We drew up a schedule of hints and spoilers, which was initially dominated by in-game teasers. More birds' eggs were planned (penguin, raven and vulture), in addition to a character that walked a bulldog and a pet shop in Yanille. "Once it was released, someone posted that they had got into the pet shop, before being kicked out by a grumpy pet shop owner! I can promise you that one isn't true..." says Mod Wilson. The schedule then passed on to Web Content, who planned something Summoning-related for the website every week until the skill's imminent release. The Greatest Trick the Chaos Elemental Ever Pulled̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ When hinting towards the familiars in Summoning, we couldn't have put together a schedule without including the Chaos Elemental. For Summoning, we didn't want to limit him to just a few anagrams in the Postbag from the Hedge, as we have done many times previously. "So, we came up with the noticeboard idea. It was just perfect for including a huge number of Summoning hints," says Mod Osborne, who worked with Mod Murphy, both of Web Content, to create it, "and the idea was inspired by the film 'Usual Suspects'." [image] The noticeboard allowed the Chaos Elemental to try out more visual and, in some cases, more difficult puzzles. In fact, we believed that some were so elaborate that it would take ages for them to be figured out. "We soon changed that opinion!" says Mod Murphy. "The Chaosudoku was completed within hours, hidden words were found in minutes, and only the longest anagrams are yet to be solved." Summoning 2: The New Batch "Each creature has unique Summoning requirements, special moves, abilities, distinct personalities and hidden chat options, so no one could possibly experience them all as they rise through the levels." Mod Osborne Web Content Of course, we wouldn't be hyping Summoning if we didn't feel that it was awesome. "It's my favourite members' skill that I've helped to release," says Mod Mark. This opinion seems to be shared by everyone who worked on it: "In terms of quality and quantity, nothing really matches it," says Mod Osborne. As you have read, one of the things we are most happy about is the size of Summoning. You already know that there is something to do for virtually every skill level, but we can let you in on another secret... After Summoning is released, a second batch of creatures is coming in February, which will nearly double the size of the original skill! That's right, AFTER Summoning has been released, you will be getting 25 new familiars to summon, and 47 variations of pets and familiars from the first Summoning release! Some players may wonder why there are two large batches, and not just one massive release. Well, there are issues with so many players downloading a huge piece of content simultaneously. We don't want technical problems and slowdown to interrupt players' enjoyment of the content. More importantly, so many creatures released at once would be overwhelming to players. "Each creature has unique Summoning requirements, special moves, abilities, distinct personalities and hidden chat options, so no one could possibly experience them all as they rise through the levels," says Mod Osborne. To really get you exploring (and even getting to know) your familiars, we have left a little something extra to come - a February dessert to go with January's main course, if you will! [image] Hinting at Summoning has been an interesting experiment for us, and it is one that we feel has been very successful. Our favourite bits have been when studying the Forums, looking at what people expect from Summoning. "It's quite interesting, seeing some of the things that are bandied about on the Forums, considered to be 'fact'," says Mod Mark. Among these are 'I'll be able to summon an army' and 'Summoning has no use for skillers' ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ well, we can say now that neither of those are true. The hints and teasers have also seen a lot of positive chat, suggestions and anticipation surrounding Summoning, which can only be a good thing! We can promise you that we have made Summoning to the best of our abilities, and we're very proud of it. All that is left now is for you to play it, enjoy it, get your hands on a Summoning skillcape, and know that, in the month after the skill is released, another big batch of creatures will be on its way. Three Summoning wallpapers are now available in the Downloads section of the website.[/hide]
  7. wow! No announcement? I expect we will be hearing one soon. In fact I'm so optimistic that I'll take this as a reason why summoning will come up today/tomorrow.
  8. Wow, I've never seen such bad explanations  It's just supply and demand.
  9. And I don't remember saying otherwise. I said "The experience gain isn't all that generous either" Does that mean the experience is very hard? certainly not. I was not comparing construction with all the other skills I was comparing construction with cooking. Cooking is a lot higher therefore construction is harder in terms of experience rate.
  10. The only reason that there was a 1.5k profit per ranarr was because it took time to sell and people didn't bother selling. You weren't getting money from herblore at all, you were getting money from standing around and selling stuff. Besides, if you're seeking for money in herblore, seek elsewhere. It's not that kind of skill.
  11. So now the highscores go down? The summoning coming out today is sounding more and more plausible.
  12. Big deal. Just simply walking to Varrock is hardly "inconvenient" and it's absolutely nothing compared to the old version of trading. No, it ruined the stupid waste of time standing around selling stuff. That wasn't even part of herblore and that was the only thing keeping the price at what it is.
  13. That's why I only refered to a system and not the skill as a whole #-o . If you can't accept simple example then just use the firemaking one. That one has no return. Not at all, the skill is only partly used to show off and partly used to make actually useful items such as gilded alter. Define use anyways because I consider popularity and fame to be quite a useful asset. When people see my construction cape I am the center of attention and I am placed on a pedestal way above the godsword wielders. Did you really think you were only going to get the respect equivalent to a godsword? It's one of the rarest skillcapes for god's sake! Seeing one of them is something special. If you have the money to spend then why do you complain about spending it? I didn't say it's not the right skill for you to train on account of you being poor, I meant that it doesn't really seem to please you since you can't find a reason to keep training it. Yes, I would love to see construction updated but that's way farther down on my "wishlist up updates" that I try not to care. I am curious however, what do you want to add to construction to improve it? I can't think of anything better for the skill.
  14. You're right -- events of the last few weeks indicate that I really should have said "nearly all". Man, your smugness is just disgusting sometimes. When I imagine the "vast economic knowledge of RS players" I think of the countless idiots who prove inflation by showing a decrease in price of a totally arbitrary good  . I've only seen one supply/demand diagram drawn and it was horribly labeled and had no consistent logic. Qeltar has the right to be arrogant when speaking about the pathetic because he has demonstrated that he actually knows what the hell he is talking about unlike the impressive ignorance that has always been the pride of the RSOF. Oh man I just love that logic. So we lose money in cooking because training the skill is easier than falling off a log therefore it's only fair that every other skill loses money.
  15. Wow, the ignorance is just astonishing  . All rares are used to show off and that, my friends, is a use. Therefore all rares are neither useless nor worthless. Looking at this quote again: Oh now this is just classic. Disregarding the main use of an item as an attempt to claim that it has no use is completely redundant. I could say, by that same logic, "Ya know, bandos armor is completely useless, it serves no purpose other than providing good stats". The purpose of bandos armor is to provide good stats, obviously if you ignored the stats it would be useless.
  16. We always flame threads except when we don't.
  17. If online prestige really matters that much to someone, perhaps they need a little boost in the real world. Everyone who is going for a skillcape or rare item is going for prestige. In fact I'd be ready to argue that everyone in this game has used seeking prestige as an incentive to keep going.
  18. Ok, now although there is no way that I am afraid of heights, I literally get sweaty palms at the thought of falling off of an inclined polished surface without being attached (example: the outside surface of a building). I guess what I hate is the feeling of helplessly falling. On any other surface I am completely fearless of the height but that thought just freaks me out. Another specific phobia is when I sense (or witness in like a movie) any sort of danger related to the eye (i.e. someone getting their eye injured or having a bloodshot eye).
  19. That's actually an interesting point. Some people are 100% straight, others are 100% gay. There are, however, people who are in the middle. This is just a little fact I heard and I have no statistics (however I'll go look) but quite often people are neither 100% straight nor 100% gay. It's interesting becuause we most often think of people either being gay or straight and imagine nothing in between (and no, I don't mean everyone else is bi). I suspect there is such thing as a "100%" straight/gay, but I'm sure that many of the self-appointed straights/gays are actually bisexual (in the sense that there is a level of attraction to both sexes) and choose not to admit it. There's a general misconception that bisexual always means exactly "in the middle" in terms of preference. Most bis I know tend to prefer one sex over another. Just speculation, though... :) I'm not only implying that gay people favor one sex over another, I'm saying that all straight people do too. And yes, I do agree there is such a thing as 100% straight/gay but the point I'm trying to make is that we usually only think in terms of straight/gay and I'm trying to say that there a lot more variations.
  20. ^ Unbalanced trade removal makes it impossible to split drops however they promise a fix to lootshare. Did you completely miss the update or something? Misconception for the first part then, glad you knew what you were talking about. Not quite, comparative advantage is based off of opportunity cost which is not always related to money. But to be 100% self-sufficient you have to go out of your way not to have money; you have to deliberately take 10 hours to do something that would take a fraction of that. It's a phenomenal waste of time like I said earlier. What the thread author is doing is deliberately getting rid of cash just to be 100% self-sufficient. You're better off doing ANY sort of income generating activity in runescape rather than being 100% self-sufficiency! It's just completely pointless economically and the whole "pride of gathering all my materials instead of buying them" is plain stupidity. Ironically enough, self-sufficiency is the reason I got hooked on this game in the first place. Yes, a pointless and stupid waste of time is what managed to get me playing this game.
  21. So what was so special about these pouches you got at the tower of light? That's one of the few things in this game i never bothered to try out
  22. That's very interesting but I don't really care. How about the demonic throne, steel dragon and hellhounds? It's not the fact that the skill is "hard to justify" which makes the skillcape rare. It's that few people who have the money choose to spend it on construction. What kind of things were you expecting to get at level 90+? would you rather that there was nothing like many of the other skills? I would actually be surprised but in a good way. I don't dislike of construction updates I simply think they aren't really really needed.
  24. I'm going to assume this doesn't really apply for me. Building an entire dungeon as well as the absolutely awesome looking throne of all times AND get one of the rarest skillcapes? That's good enough incentive. Oh and skills with no return are not uncommon. Firemaking has no return, Ranging with chinchompas has no r eturn. If you don't think those things are worth paying millions for then this isn't a good skill for you. For you maybe not but for others obviously there are. The most impressive parts of your house. Sounds to me like construction isn't the right skill for you but you want them to change it to make it so. I beg to differ. Of course it's hard to get high construction! Those items that you get are tokens of vaste wealth. If you suddenly make the skill easier, those items stop being special and you will have LESS incentive to go get high levels.
