  1. Runecrafting is a hard skill. It's very low exp, it requires more attention than other skills, it can even cost quite a bunch but that's what makes it so special! If it was an easy skill, first off it wouldn't even be as profitable as it is now and second, it wouldn't feel so special to master the skill. Since runecrafting is the ultimate challenge in terms of boring skills but it feels so damn good to conquer it that I am glad it is so difficult because that 99 runecrafting feels so damn good because of it. Speaking of which, I got 99 runecrafting! More specifically, I got 99 runecrafting where nearly all of it was through the abyss! Included in that was 10 weeks straight of runecrafting every single day! Only the nerdiest of nerds manliest of men should dare to attempt that : But here's the fun part. I managed to get that crazy achievement and yet I can't concentrate on anything. Do you know how? because instead of whining about how a skill is unfair/hard/boring I actually tried to find some solutions myself and thanks to what I found I was able to get this crazy skill. Well, besides the fact that you're never forced to do anything, every skill in this game does force you to grind. For every skill there is a simple, repetitive pattern that is continued x amount of times till you get the exp you want. That's grinding, right? The only reason runecrafting is more intense is that it's got harsher exp rates, more attention required than other skills. But admittedly there is variety in runecrafting. ZMI for luck-based alter, Abyssal runecrafting for that dangerous-but-rewarding, ghraak summoning assisted runecrafting for the absolute fastest runecrafting method and of course then there's also hireing runners (you want a higher exp rate, high cost method, there it is!). That's already several varied methods. For a skill in which the premise is running between an alter and a bank that's not bad, variety-wise.
  2. Hence why there actually is a demand for illegal real world trading market. However there is no true feeling of accomplishment in that and it can never quite feel like 'your account'.
  3. Construction. After achievement capes came out I had 91 rc and not knowing what I wanted to do next in this game. I wanted a cape that would truly mean something to me so I went for a cape in a skill that I liked, that I could get (This was a time when 91 rc gave you incredible wealth, twice what it does these days it seems). I also wanted it to be fairly (but not too) time consuming and fairly rare. So I went for construction which was, at the time, one of the rarest 99s. Consequently I got it untrimmed which I later found out was exceedingly rare. First 99 is always special
  4. For me this is quite the interesting question. About a year ago I tried to give my account some arbitrary monetary value based on skills, items, house. That was a pathetic understatement. How could I miss so much? It took me months to realize this when I finally asked myself this very question and that ended up costing me dearly. I didn't realize at the time that this account's true value comes from the priceless memories that I felt whilst playing this game, each achievement, each quest, each friend. You can't give value to those things just like you can't give a value to the account.
  5. I was able to completely understand Adam Smith's Invisible hands, thus sparking my interest in economics all thanks to runescape. Understanding how to undertake an incredibly repeditive task by breaking it up in parts lead not only to my mastery of construction and runecrafting but also quite a few tasks in real life by creating a schedule and structuring my life (leading me to accomplishing much more). Unfortunately none of that seems to work well in college because there's, like, a million things to do.... each day. There might be a few others, but those two have had a notable impact on my life.
  6. No, it's not because it's buyable it's because it's the least expensive (timewise or moneywise whichever way you prefer to see it) skill and the most common skillcape. It's true we often hear "you can just buy it so it must be easy" and frankly that's one of the worst arguments around however it's the fact that the materials are so cheap (AND the final product can be sold for almost the entire cost of the materials, which isn't the case for all skills involving buying stuff) that makes the skillcapes of cook/fletch seem pathetic. (seriously, over 50k people have it for cooking, and almost as much for fletching, doesn't that say anything to you?) One word: pride. A cape seen on a daily basis holds little value. People go for it purely because it's easy. I'm pretty sure "not burning sharks" isn't the main incentive (besides that happens at 96 anyways and 96-99 takes several million exp to get).
  7. Err, same as now. This is a recent picture and stuff hasn't changed. I'm going to get it back as soon as I have some spare time. As a college student I have a ridiculous amount of work now. However I promise that I will get it back. It's my guide, I like it and I want people to be able to use it.
  8. Depends how useful it is. Does adding something suddenly create an alternative that is more efficient than the previously existing method? If yes then it will obviously affect. If no, does it help in a specific situation? Certain level range? Probably many more variables that I can't think of atm
  9. I thought I did too, I'll explain everything soon : . I'm sort of still trying to recover my account -.- .
  10. Thanks guys Torag helm Neitz helm Karil's top Torag legs Whip + obby shield Then fury, d boots etc... oh yeah and of course, ring of wealth  I used toast's guide on solo bandos with whip setup. (Pretty sure it's AoW). Haha, that question will be addressed in time. I'll say this though, it was a miracle that I got my account back and it would appear that I'm not quite out of the woods yet. BTW: TIMOTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII <3 Lucky Star
  11. yeah my first instinct was "grab the plate! NOW!" so I didn't get a pic of it on the ground
  12. I've got news, I'm back. That's right, I did say goodbye back in January but I'm not quite done yet. So I got my account back (long story) and decided to try gwd again. I missed the whole summoning awesomeness update, so I figured I'd test out my brand new pet turtle at bandos. First trip was an epic fail. I got one kill ok, then took a while to kill the minions. Then things didn't go so well. You see, this is my first trip with a familliar so I thought you had to open the familiar's inventory screen and then dump all the items in my inventory. After failing to do this over and over again I nearly died and was forced to telly. That's when I discovered that useful button on the summon info screen that automatically dumps all stuff in my inventory. I must say that makes things pretty convenient. Second trip went much better, I only had one near death experience (78 hp right down to 30, healed and got hit by bandos's wave). 3 kills, but a slight bit of profit. Third trip, first kill was fine, second pretty much speaks for itself [hide==D] my turtle had 12 more sharks so a 3rd kill would have been fine, but I didn't wanna risk it.[/hide] It's great because a huge amount of my wealth has gone missing so I could greatly use 11 mill just like that. Well it's great to do gwd after such a long absence. Credit to toast for making the solo bandos guide, which I used to get this awesomeness.
  13. Damn toast you're full of win. I figured I'd give your guide a try (I've been itching to get back to gwd), so I do do a couple of trips using whip and war tortoise, 5 kills later: [hide=Blue Charm ftw][/hide] Armadyl is still my true love but Bandos is a close second It's awesome because I really needed 11 mill right now.
  14. Being able to say "I have a rare item that can no longer be obtained in this game" holds quite a bit of special value, even if they arn't tokens of extreme value like phats (which are bought to then show off). Not everything in this game is combat related either. Keep in mind some people like to make their own outfit to look nice. For example, I use to love naval outfits (except the hats) so I would wear that often when I'm skilling. It didn't help me in combat (which is irrelevant since I'm not fighting) but it looked damn sexy. Wearing a holiday outfit over armor would look pretty bad (although some combination s might be cool). These things are NOT made for combat though, they are made to show off wealth or other. Key difference. 1: In my house but yes. 2: Not interested. 3: For sure! That's an added bonus that I always looked forward to 4: Pretty much, it shows I've been around at a certain time. It has sentimental value too, as the yo-yo came out only 2 months after I started playing this game.
  15. First off, not all questers use guides. I enjoy going guideless, it's a bit more fun that way, and you get a feeling of accomplishment at the end knowing you can beat the puzzles and such. Grinding through a skill and getting a cape doesn't deserve respect. Finishing all the quests RuneScape currently offers doesn't deserve respect. Pointing and clicking is meaningless. The only thing in the game that deserves respect is the people behind the pixels. Let's stop blathering on about what capes are "respectable" and just play the game for fun and to enjoy the friends we make. All of those things deserve respect (since they are challenges), the only argument is how much
  16. God, I made that post almost a year ago, you're a little late. Well that's one hell of an "if". Also, since nobody has unlimited money it's also a completely irrelevant and baseless argument. I could just as well say "slayer is easy if you get instant exp" or "getting a phat is easy if you have infinite money", basically "[insert achievement] is easy if you remove the the thing that makes that achievement difficult in the first place". It's like saying that a hard game is easy if you play on god mode. Fascinating but doesn't change the fact that the game is still hard. I know, I was around when it came out, hell it was my first 99. Gathering the huge amount of cash was anything but easy. Factoring in the time it takes to make those millions and you'll realize that your plan is anything but easy.
  17. Why do you think I quit back in January? Among other things, the game lost the spark that it had at the beginning (and other reasons too)
  18. Considering the fact that quest capes are far more frequent than many of the other capes I'm going to have to disagree. Sure, there may be multiple requirements and some "difficult" boss fights but the key difference is variety. Variety is what makes quests in rs one of my absolute favorite features in rs. Every quest is unique, every quest has you do something interesting. They are awesome, unfortunately because they rule so much, it's not hard to find motivation to get them all done. Hell, I did them all before the quest cape came out because they were simply fun to do. If that wasn't enough, each quest has it's own reward. Now, training a skill to 99? That's not fun, it's boring and tedious. Therefore, someone who can torture them self long enough to get one will get more respect. So in the end, more people will have the quest cape because it's actually fun to get, therefore seeing someone with a quest cape is "yet another person who managed to do all quests", nothing special. Skills on the other hand are held by few (cooking and fletching and all easy capes are obviously disqualified for being too easy and even more of a common sight than qp cape) and thus get more respect. So basically, qp cape gets less respect for being too awesome.
  19. There's only one thing funnier than reading pathetic RSOF rants and that is hearing someone's funny response. Thankyou ratchet for the laughs  Anyways, nothing to worry about, people are idiots. Anyone remember when barrows came out? People were furious that dragon armor, though expensive, suddenly wasn't the best stuff around and holy crap were there a ton of rants (Way more than this). Then eventually people realize that it's pathetically stupid to post rants, riots or, *gasp* chants. They will get bored and then the problem will solve itself.
  20. Me? yea... 10 level difference didnt help much (88 me vs. 98 her) I was valiant though and hit a 17, 16, 10, and 1 with my scimitar. Then I found some cake, and ate it, hit her a little more then I got KOed. :o  Yeah, they're pretty much got the biggest weakness to range in the game. PREPARATION IS KEY
  21. Or they could get the stuff themselves in the meantime, that also works even if it's inefficient.
  22. Ok, thanks for giving me a solid reply for my off-topic questions concerning summoning. Enjoy the rest of the debate.
  23. I don't think that's right. By doing waterfiends instead of rock lobsters, you lose 0.8947 hours but save 825k. 825k/0.8947 = 922k. So, if you don't count in the xp, you'd have to make 922k/hour or more for lobsters to be more efficient. The mage xp is huge though, so without figuring that in the number is way off. Where does 0.8947 come from? that doesn't sound correct. I do think rock lobsters give slightly more charms/hour, as you get quite a lot of other charms besides crimsons, while waterfiends almost solely drop crims. Now that I look at it, I think your right - My bad, I'll edit my post. Everything else was factored in, including other charms, but it is true about magic XP. But mage exp aside, waterfiends are best then, right?

  25. Actually, it's 435k or better without XP counted: 180 charms per hour with Bursts, at a cost of 825k VS 95 charms per hour with Fiends, at a cost of 0k = 180/95 = 1.8947 825k / 1.8947 = 435.4k Unless he's 99 mage, though, the XP is important - 99 mage is a HUGE asset, I love it at Castle Wars but never could have trained it with alching; simply too monotonous and click-heavy, even though I didn't mind the time and cost. As for the rest of it, yes - but apparently some of the RS population isn't so bright. Ah well, I like arguing... I've typed over 70 pages worth of replys, totaling dozens of thousands of words - I really enjoy it. And my whatpulse is through the roof, too bad I lost 4 months and 6 million keystrokes worth of data. -.- Oh, and I have a bone to pick with you about the 99 summoning from 99 slayer 'fact' - do you realize that's 40 crimson an hour, from SLAYER? :o That's very interesting. I never would have thought that bursting at rock lobs would have been so effective. 435.5k per hour is an income that quite a few can make (and probably more now that pking has made things profitable again). Anyways sorry for asking an off-topic question but I really wanted to know.
