Thinking of building a new computer sometime...
Hope everything works out. If anything arises, just ask. (and pre-applied paste is on the heatsink not the cpu *besserwisser*)

New computer help
^You do know that 5770 is similar to 4870/GTX260 in performance, right? If that's mid range, we have some different views then. You can crossfire different cards. Depends on which one it is tho. What psu is it? And the ram, it must be 1.65v or less. Anything over will damage the i7 and you won't be able to complain to Intel about it since they are pretty clear on this matter. You can use those which have different timings but the slowest one will be the one dictating. I think it was Nadril who recommended other brands than that tho, or if it was ibuy power.... Someone of 'em. If you're thinking about overclocking, first read about each hardware component and get a perspective about them. No point of just turning up the hertz without knowing what you're working with. Secondly, read a lot of guides. And third i would say that picking your own stuff would be better than trying with a prebuilt, partly because it's you who chooses what to use and partly because it voids the warranty. And before rushing and buying some watercooling, read about it.

World Cup 2010 - South Africa!
Watched 2nd half of friendly Germany - Bosnia yesterday, on another forum i read a bit about first half and seems to have been quite crappy. But 2nd half was absolutely awesome, Lahms strike... Mein godt! Rio seems to have taken a knock to his knee in an England session and went to hospital for a scan, i have seen some ManU matches this seasons, and they few his played hasn't looked all too convincing if i'm honest.

Thinking of building a new computer sometime...
I don't know, man. I've used the current application of AS5 on my heatsink for over a year now and I've noticed a very minimal temperature increase. I'll probably re-apply later this year anyway, but I can't say that anything bad has happened. I can definitely see where you're coming from though. To get optimal performance from it, that's what you should do. Which is why i don't recommend it to him.

Biostar 4670 - 63$ Gigabyte HD4850 - 100$ ECS GTS 250 - 110$ Powercolor 5770 - 150$ The next step is getting a HD5830 for 225, but i don't think you want to spend that kind of money. The 5770 outperforms all of it's cards above, and is the only one to be able to use DX11. 4850 and GTS250 performs great for their price, you'd have no problem playing any of the latest games with high settings, toss a coin to choose which one. And if you don't want to spend all that much money there's the 4670. I've got one for 1&½ year now and for me, it suits my needs. Played Assassins Creed 2 on high settings without any lag (ok mine is a bit overclocked, but still) for example. The 4850, 250 and 4670 can't however play in DX11. Depends on if that will matter to you or not. If i were you, i would probably pick the 4850 or 250.

Cooler Master E330 - 40$ Lite-on cd/dvd read/write - 20$ WD caviar blue 500gb - 56$ OCZ 500w psu - 55$ AMD Athlon 2 X2 3ghz - 62$ Biostar AM3 785g mATX - 65$ Geil 4gb DDR3 1066 - 108$ =406$ Couple of things: Since you said a bit of video editing and some light gaming, i haven't picked up a better CPU. There's some quad Athlons as well, but they are limited to 512kb cache per core. And to get up a bit in performance you'd have to fork out the double, at lest 130$. Please say if you want it changed. Heatsink should have pre-applied paste on it, but please call to be 100% sure. Other i recommend this, i don't recommend AS5 since you need to re-apply it once a year. Which maybe isn't the best option for someone like you. Graphics card, i don't know if you're planning on keeping XP or going to Win7. Depending on what you're going to do, there's some alternatives. Also, if you're gonna keep with those games and not something like AC2 there's no point getting a brick. Win7 Pro OEM costs 140$ If you think you'll buy a couple of new games (since this computer would be able to handle it), or not, please tell. And i'll give you a couple of alternatives on that. E: I forgot. The hd is on 500gb, i don't know if you want a smaller or bigger one (say if so). Since you have one already, if you'd want a 250gb or something to save some money? I don't know. Just some options =)

You can run CCleaner for the registry. You could probably do with running defrag aswell (Auslogics or Defraggler are both faster than Win native). I have an ATI card and i have no problem with RS. Your graphics card is an old AGP 4x, checked the manual for your computer but couldn't find which one so i'm guessing some low/mid range one. Your internet speed is good. 1 mb/s should be more than fine, unless you're streaming blue ray movies or something. Upload speed doesn't matter for the average Joe. You could use DBAN (1.0.7 stable) for formatting. I don't know about speakers, screen and that. But just the computer hardware for your needs, i'd say... 500$? +30-50$ for a "pro" to put it together (cheaper option: buy a friend or a relative who knows how-to a pizza and a beer). I can make you a list if you want.

World Cup 2010 - South Africa!
Writing this when it's 8 days left to the World Cup in South Africa. Since no one have created a thread about it, and those old ones are already cluttered, i thought i might start. Some information: FIFA links: The teams Groups Match schedule News Wikipedia random info@World Cup 2010 Wiki@World Cup 2010 South Africa World Cup 2010: SA 2010 South Africa is in the GMT+1h timezone (which is perfect for me since i'm in it too), if you don't know what the corresponding time is in your country you can use this site. ----- Since my country isn't in this World Cup, i will be going for England and Germany. Definitely not the Danes tho, even if i'm a bit Danish (80 years back or so), since they shot our hopes down during the qualifying out of the window. Germany's odds became a bit higher during the FA Cup final, but Germany is Germany. If i had to tip, then "head" would say Spain or Argentina but "heart" would say England. However, Argentina are a bit funny... They wouldn't have won in 86 without Maradona and now he is the reason why they might not do it. One thing i won't enjoy with this World Cup tho, is those bloody horns. They are so annoying to listen to during the match.

High CPU spikes causing BSOD's
Don't know on Vista but on XP, to remove auto-restart: Right click computer - properties - advanced - start and reset - settings - untick the box "restart automatically". Sorry if the words aren't exactly corresponding, but i'm on a non-English OS. When you start next time you could bring up the task manager - processes - cpu, to see what's hogging. Also, you could download Core Temp to see what your CPU temp is.

Today...
Hm, just read that they are going to build a Mosque on the ground zero area in NYC. Don't want to be grabbed in the ear by some mod, so i'll just say that i think it's unfitting. Edit: Lol. I had my first mountain dew today, have never seen it here before so i thought i might try it out. Pretty ok, a bit too weak taste tho.

Looking for a Hard Drive
I guess it's because they are made in conditions which require absolute cleanliness - you may not believe it but that cardboard box may not be the best transport for it. Even tho it's dead i suppose they still require you to put it in an anti-stat bag first and then solidify it in a box.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
The thing with it is that, while people should have the right to draw Muhammad, they also should know that they have to accept whatever consequences come with offending people as a result... Which this demonstration does not. Part of maturity is knowing the responsibilities that come with your freedom. If the group in question is okay with it, fine. If not, then you're just being disrespectful. Yes, but the offended should also be mature and not burn flags and plant bombs. I could count so many things offends and disrespects me in one way or another, but i wouldn't ban their right to do so, since it would only make me a hypocrite.

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
^ So not to step on anybodies toes, you think SP shouldn't show Buddha snorting coke? I don't understand this to be honest. I live in a "free world" and should be able to draw Muhammed if i want to. Anything offends anyone, should we there for ban what might offend? Then we go back in time and not forward.

Favorite alcoholic beverage?
I'm under age at a place in the city, it's 23 there but they usually let you in anyways lol. I think 18 is a good base line, and then the place can set their own rules on top of that. Here it's 18 for bar and 20 to buy alcohol in the store, although it's not difficult to get a hold of it if you're under 20 tho. Is it still 16 in UK at some places? Or is it 18 now?

Abortion in Canada
Let's take it one step further, how about incest/rape and pregnancy? I honestly couldn't be more disgusted when hearing that someone would want to force a woman/girl that gets raped to have the child.

It's a topic about taxes =) But i'll shut up if people want me to.

If you could have a say on how your tax dollar is spent
 Anyway, I sense this topic is going to be a forum re-enactment of the Capitalist Pigs vs. Communist Dogs. I'll be in the back seats if you need me. Well that's my belief and I'm educated enough and have enough experience to 'know better'. The idea that people are naturally altruistic and its political implications has existed in asia since the period of warring states (500BC) and its not going away. I gather that your ideal country would be run by communists. How would your country compete with the free market in the world? How are you going to save capital from fleeing the country? How are you going to battle inflation? How about us that want to choose where our money goes? How about us that don't believe in an all powerful government?

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
If people wanna do it, do it. The SP episodes with muhammed in it wasn't and won't be showed here on tv since the situation about all this. Which i think is BS. It's caving in and censoring. There's a couple of things that nags me to death in this modern society, and that's political correctness and censoring (which often go hand in hand).
