Harddrive is saying good bye and moving to heaven.
Nice title, heh. Well this is the deal, my dads computer (hd more specifically) packed in yesterday. The day before, it worked without a problem. I can boot up (takes a while), choose an account to log into... But when i do this (logging in): svchost[Caution: Executable File] - Application Error "The instruction at "0xffbadd11" referenced memory at "0xffbadd11". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program." Well, i checked around the net and decided to download a harddrive fitness test from Hitachi (hd is a 160gb, 8mb cache Hitachi btw - don't remember number). Well, after i ran the test the result was "Technical result code - 7000afc2. Failure code - 0x70.". The harddrive have some bad sectors, not the entire drive but a few bad sectors. I should point out that the computer was bought in autumn 2004, so it's almost 5 years old. I'm wondering: Is there any way i could copy files from the hd to my hd? Since i can't log in to any account on that hd, i guess i'm fudged. I think the old hd is IDE. Thanks for any help. Edit: Now i can log into it lol. It is extremely slow, but hopefully i'll be able to copy some stuff onto the usb sticks. Don't lock this mod-x.

What's your Favorite computer?
An old Amiga i got in 93 or so from my brother. I think it might been the 500, but i'm not sure. Unfortunately my dad threw it away a few years ago. But i remember i spent alot of time on it, damn good machine. I played some sort of a flight-simulator which i think was during the first world war, a Lemmings game (ahahaha the memories!), some car game and a couple of others (i know i played more, but don't remember them).

2011/12 Football Season
Well, Man U lost. And they looked a bit lost too. Park i think was the best player of Man U today. Grats Barcelona! Now, only 3 days left until the FA Cup final.

Laptops?
The white book got a too crappy gpu for any new games. And wow, almost a 1k more for a mac with worse specs. Sure, 9400 might work for CS&co, but if you'd want it to last a while i wouldn't invest in it.

They're making i7 laptops? Link to one? http://web.eurocom.com/EC/ec_model_config1(1,202,0) Err, link doesn't want to work. Copy paste the whole of it

Power Supply Question
I wonder what type of components they've used to get such a low price. And they've done the funny thing adding the 12v rails with the 3.3 and 5 rails for "614w" lol, when it's the 12v rails that you actually use to power your heavy components (cpu, gpu etc) and that only adds up to about 450-ish watt. If the rebate stuff works as i'm assuming (you get x back after you send in some "check") i'd go for the Corsair HX520 (70$ after rebate) (don't live in the U.S so i don't about the rebate).

Laptops?
Well, unfortunately MXM (mobile pci-e) isn't widely used (shame really). So on the laptop gpu front you are locked in (apart from a few models). Something like /WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3884606-3938983.html]this is what you'd have to get (just an example) if you want better graphics, but as you see you pay alot more for what you get compared to yours.

Should I custom build a new computer?
For a build in his price range, it'd be a waste of money to use a lump of it on an SSD. And on SSD you shouldn't really defrag, as the current defrag programs aren't programmed for flash. Neither XP or Vista are optimized for SSD, while on Win7 it will be much better. @Who am i: NCIX PC System E1400 Athlon X2 Black 7750 4GB RAM 250GB HD ATI 4350 - 365$ Really great price, you won't save much on building it yourself. So i'd suggest this. If you want more harddrive space, it shouldn't be a problem calling NCIX and ask them to change it to a 500gb one or so. For a monitor, well ask someone else about that (i'm not intrested in monitors lol).

Power Supply Question
Uhm, the fan sucks in air thru the fan and out thru it's grill. Maybe i've misinterpreted your sentence.

Power Supply Question
You mount the psu the way the case manufacturer says, and yes, it blows out air thru the back. Do you really need 630w?

Should I custom build a new computer?
Do you have a local computer dealer (not just an all-around electronics store, but a specific dealer) and do they have a website on which we here could check? They can put a computer together for you, for about 40-50$. Otherwise, NCIX does have some really great deals on custom-prebuilt computer. What do you plan on doing with the computer? Just getting a faster computer, for some everyday use+rs and light gaming, or do you want a more serious gaming platform?

Laptops?
Checked around a bit, and this was the best i could find for the price: http://www.wireless1.com.au/ProductList ... P%2fCompaq The gpu is similar to desktop 8600/9500gt. Now, before i bought a new graphics card i had a 8600gt ddr2 256mb. At 1280x1024 on Far Cry 2 on medium settings i got about 20-22fps, Test Drive Unlimited - circa 30-40fps on high settings (card a bit overclocked). Check so the gpu uses ddr3 memory. For the price, the laptop specs were about the same at different dealers. Hopefully a few others will link to a couple of more alternatives.

Laptops?
Got any links to a couple of Austrailian computer dealers? People struggle with GTA4 on highend desktops, e.g; 4gb ram, C2Q/P2 at ~3ghz and 4870 1gb. It's a really badly optimized game. If you want to play it on a laptop on any decent settings you'll have to fork out a lot of money (tho i don't know what you get for 2500au).

Drinking - shots
Depends on how big you are and how often you drink. Also, some like to have a bit of water once in while. If this is "can you beat my drinking habits?", well then i think this belongs in the bin. I do like drinking, but it seems kinda useless to compare how much x can drink.

iMac questions
Well, of those there Mac ones there are, i'd probably recommend Norton or Avast. Some friends who have Macs have Norton on theirs, and it seems to work without a problem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_antivirus_software

Power Supply Question
Before you buy anything, if you still have warranty on the PSU, check with the company if RMA is possible.

GPU Overheating?
Those temps isn't a problem. What's the temps on gpu/cpu while playing RS after a few minutes? You aren't given any sort of error-message when program x closes? Download CCleaner, run temporary files cleaning+registry (this won't help your problems, but you might as well if you've never). Also do a round of scanning with your AV.
