  1. I remember when I was 3 I called 911 because I was being bitten by ants and thought it was an emergency (I was told if there was ever an emergency to call 911 lol). Around 7 I put one of my teeth, think it was the front, through my lip riding my bike. I was racing with a few friends and someone ran into my back tire, or I ran into someones, went flying over the handlebars, and hit face-first into a street sign (which I knocked loose \ ). Fun hospital visit. When I first learned how to ride a bike (I forget how old I was) without training wheels, I nearly got hit by a car...It came within inches of squishing me/launching me into a house/tree. I also remember dislocating my knee when I was like 11 riding a scooter, and when I was about 8 me and my friend falling down and hurting ourselves on scooters when it was raining and the driveway was wet. My grandmother gave us homemade cookies to make us feel better, and they did ^.^...I hate normal scooters now (gas powered are awsome though, they go so fast...more stable too). I also remember when I was like 5-6, I was climbing a tree and I fell and blacked out...Good times. Now everything is about work and getting a job, and going to college..bleh! I miss nap time and recess lol. We spent almost all of my 4th period class (twice as long as any other, called the block class) trying to get our teacher to let us have nap time, and eventually he did \
  2. Wrong I've recently upgraded one of my friend's laptop's RAM that used DDR, not DDR-2. So it's not impossible, you just have to look. I also recenly added more DDR ram to my desktop, and getting that stick wasn't really hard at all. We also got a new graphics card for it, and the motherboard only had PCI slots I believe...so don't say it's not possible, because that's ignorance. Finally, some truth comes out. The cpu is rather hard to remove, and usually not worth potentially screwing up the laptop. How does that work, considering a graphics card alone is $180. Ram is about $30 for 1g (or maybe 2g)...Then you actually have to buy a case ($20 for a cheap one), and a new motherboard, which is another $100-500, depending on the make and what you want it for..So at the lower end of the spectrum you're spending more than that for the motherboard and the graphics card alone. It thinks before it speaks -.- See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laptop#Upgradeability for more details Never use Wikipedia as your only source, that's asking for trouble. To the OP, unless you have great skills and the required tools to disassemble a laptop and remove the components, a RAM upgrade is about as far as you can go without risking destroying your computer. I would say build a desktop rig, which will be about $1000 give or take, depending on what you already have and how high performance you want it to be. There are guides to taking apart a laptop, but I wouldn't risk it. Just save up for a dekstop. If you do want to upgrade parts, check tigerdirect or newegg, which usually has good prices and great reliability (at least if you live in the US, I don't know how they are for selling abroad, if they even do so).
  3. Glad you people have it so easy. I have to either pay for what I want, wait for xmas/my birthday (which are within 1 month of each other), or beg continuously. Maybe it's because we have such a limited budget, but like my grandparents will buy things for me because they have a lot of money, but I either have to work it off or do something that makes it worth the money (like when I bowled my highest game [256], they bought me my new bag for breaking 250). There is a definate difference between being spoiled and acting spoiled. One of my best friends is extremely spoiled. His mom is a head nurse, his dad is a pilot for his own business, so they make a considerable amount of money (what they're doing in this [cabbage] town, I'll never know). He can get almost anything he wants, but he doesn't try. He has a ps2, doesn't want a ps3 and really doesn't care about new games. He's fine with a slower internet connection, fine with a mediocre computer. He only gets really what he needs, although occasionally he'll ask for something a bit expensive, like a new higher-end fishing rod or bike parts (he does tricks and racing so he spends a lot on biking), or his new phone which was like $200. Then there's this one girl at my school who I absolutely hate. She is spoiled and gets almost everything she wants, from her parents or "friends" and she always wants something else. She's rude and attempts to be controlling, typical "plastic." Never happy with what she had..After 2 years eventually you get tired of it, but I won't say what I did to her, or helped do. So, there is a rather large difference. It just depends on how people act and how they let having things affect them. I really couldn't care less if what I was wearing came from the most expensive rack in the mall or the cheapest shelf in wal-mart. As long as it looks decent then I'm happy, but some people will never understand that POV.
  4. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=144061 Someone had to do it. That topic is for advertising things, so you shouldn't make individual threads about it.
  5. You mean Pediophobia, the fear of dolls? Or Crometophobia, the fear of money? I forgot I'm terrified of elevators. Won't go in them if there are stairs as an option. I'm always afraid I'll get stuck or it will break and I'll fall and die or like I won't be paying attention when the doors open, and the elevator won't be there and I'll fall to the bottom (that or the elevator takes off too fast and I lose an arm)...Really rather irrational but eh, its something that's plauged me for a long time. So many people seem to be afraid of spiders here lol, glad I'm not the only one. warren, a phobia is defined as "a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it. " (thanks to dictionary.reference.com). The comment about the spiders isn't true. Just because I'm afraid of them doesn't mean that if one was crawling on my desk, I wouldn't attempt to kill it (especially since I have a heavy stapler and a tape dispenser right next to me). A daddy long legs isn't going to eat me, but I still cringe whenever I see them, and attempt to work as far away from them as possible (somtimes its unavoidable, like in a bathroom and there is no other restroom nearby, but other times, like if I'm asked to get something out of the garage and they are there, I have my mom or dad do it, or a friend lol). Oh, and you insensitive bastard! (just kidding ^.^) D Jay99, I'll have to agree with the fear of death thing. It doesn't make sense to me. One day, the [cabbage] is going to hit the fan and you're done. It's inevitable. At least you can avoid flying or you can spray bug spray to kill the bugs, but you can't avoid death. You really can't control it either (except for suicide, but meh, that's another discussion)...I don't know, but there are people who are, well, deathly afraid of death. I, for one, couldn't care less. If I die, either it was my own damn fault or there was some reason for it (be it a God saying my time is up or whatever). Oh, and fgfuyfyuiuy0, I wasn't trying to make fun of you, I was just trying to figure out how it worked. Guess I wasn't thinking too hard about it because its blatantly obvious now. Thanks for explaining it and sorry if you thought I was trying to be mean. Now if someone would just explain arachibutyrophobia (fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth....).
  6. What BlueLancer said is true about them turning. One of my black labs, the female, was a relaly lazy dog and really laid-back. Loved to be pet...One day I went to pet her, and I guess I rubbed her the wrong way (literally) and she growled and snapped her teeth at me, something I never thought she would do. I know a few people who are afraid of dogs...One was a friend of my mom's and almost refused to come in the house when he saw we had 2 dogs, but one is afraid of everything and the other is my female who just wants to sniff and see who is there (now we have a third black lab - a puppy, that came from my female and either the male black lab or another dog, we aren't sure who parented him). They all say they've had bad experience with being bitten, or watching someone be seriously hurt in the past...Hmm...I guess it is true lol, my mom also says she knew quite a few people who were afraid of dogs at a young age too. Shock therapy can backfire though, you have to be careful what you do...I say go after a little dog, like a weiner dog. They're so fun, and usually relaxed and cool...Plus, if they bite you... football practice? (jk).
  7. To Lenticular_J: I'm deathly scared of storms and getting hit by a tornado, but for some odd reason, I would love to go storm chasing. Just because I'm afraid doesn't mean I don't like looking at them. I love to watch shows like on the weather channel, because they're so powerful, and they look neat, but if I heard of one was coming for my house, I would lose it....unless the TIV (Tornado Intercept Vehicle, from Discovery Stormchasesrs google it) was available, then maybe I would let it come without fear. Boo homophobia *waits in a dark part of the thread to scare you* Also, forget Texas and Iowa. Oaklahoma is the tornado capital of the states/north america/world (can't remember which). I've seen a tornado destroy a house down the street...it was small, but I made a fort out of my bed. My uncle also had one come and shoot rocks at 2 of his vehicles, and tear out some trees...thankfully neither the house, him and his wife and my cousin, nor the horses were harmed. To Alex and Abyssal, get the hell off of my thread with your spam. superson, your fear is Atychiphobia, the fear of failure, and Agoraphobia, which is fear of embarrassment, or being in crowded, public places/leaving a safe place. Dizzle is close to me in fears, save chlaustrophobia. I just remembered something funny too - my friend's father is a pilot, but he is afrad of heights...I've been trying to figure out how that works...
  8. TPB is pretty secure for most things, but I just don't trust torrents. They take forever to download, I hate having people upload from me (yeah, I'm a leech, so what) which is harder to control through like utorrent, and viruses are more prevelant in torrents. Plus, how I have limewire setup, everything is scanned and verified before opening, and I've never gotten a virus through limewire...Not to mention searching is easier, don't have to weed through pages of sites and read all the comments and everything. Limewire was faster and easier to use for mass-downloads than bittorrent clients (like getting specific songs from albums was a lot faster with limewire than it ever was with bittorrent). And to Lenin, he was hilarious, truly worth the purchase. I have all of his shows recorded on to dvd from satellite, but that's only because I don't have the $65 for his box set...yet. It sucks I didn't know about him, he's one of the best comics I've ever seen (to me, he was like a funnier, less crazy Lewis Black, who is another comedian I really enjoy watching, although his comedy central show is rather stupid).
  9. Really Lenin? Because just a few hours ago I saw a duck outside and wanted to grab him and call him my own ducky. I love ducks, especially the cute little baby ducks...*quack quack quack*. How can you hate they eyes of a duck? They aren't piercing, ducks are happy creatures (especially the small red-headed ones). penguin is in the lead for most paranoid person on TIF so far, lol. Although I don't get how someone fears glitter...
  10. JeremyM - I'm not afraid of other animals/insects, save maybe cockroaches, but I'm not really afraid of them, I just hate them. Errdoth - feel free to come up with one. pyromancer - I put that in my first post after fgf's post. His were Clowns, Dolls, Puppets, and Beautiful Women. I would just classify your fear as hemophobia (fear a blood). Dealing with it is sicker than thinking about it =; timmay929 - hatred =/= fear.
  11. Venustraphobia, really? I think people really had that...just seems weird and unjustified..but then again, Arachibutyrophobia is the same way (and I know quite a few people who have it)...Interesting...This should be a fun (but maybe short-lived) thread. Also, if you do copy from phobia list, give a short description (the ones they post on there are fine), so we don't have to go searching. Just makes life easier.
  12. Pyromancer, where the hell did you find that? I didn't know people posted creative and funny videos on YT anymore.
  13. urbestfreind posted a topic in Off-Topic
I didn't seem to find a topic like this, and certainly not an active one, so I decided to make one. I seem to have to tell my parents and friends near every day that I have Lilapsophobia (fear of tornados and hurricanes), and it's quite severe. Every time I hear thunder, I flip between news channels and the weather channel to check the radar and warnings, if I'm online and not busy, I'll check a few sites, and I'll always keep an eye on the clouds for any sign of rotation or any increase in severity and closeness of lightning strikes, especially since I live in Florida and storms come often here. (Story about a girl with it, not as bad as me, but still http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=547011) I also have: ~aviophobia (fear of flying...or rather fear of crashing in my case, although I don't mind helicopters for some reason). I've lost some vacation opportunities because of this. ~Altophobia, but not really. It's not so much being high, as fear of the structure collapsing, such as at amusement parks, I check for bracing and if anything is leaking (water parks) or rattling badly, and how long the ride has been there. I will ask about the most recent repairs done on it too if I can get the information. ~Arachnophobia - Fear of Spiders...I'm getting over it, I can at least kill most of them by myself now, but if one were to crawl on me...*shudders*. To get an idea of how bad I was, even if a little one, or a baby one (no bigger than a dime) were to even crawl in my line of sight, I would run screaming and get someone else to kill it....and I still can't look at pictures of them, if in a magazine, i won't even look at the page, or touch where the spider was, as if it would come out and eat me... :ohnoes: If you want, you could take a look at http://phobialist.com/, a great website I found awhile ago (I have all mine memorized, but there's something like 14 pages worth of phobias). Some are quite funny (arachibutyrophobia (I think that's how it's spelled anyways), which is the fear of peanut butter getting stuck to the roof of your mouth). Just hit Ctrl+F and type in something to find the name for it. You don't have to give an official name though. If you are going to name them from phobialist or somewhere else, please give a description (copy and paste if you have to).
  14.  The mother agreed to it as well! Oh that's priceless. That kid must have loved his mother. It's kindof disgusting (maybe if he was 16 or so it wouldn't be as bad), but this thing doesn't surprise me. After watching all of the "To Catch a Predator" shows on Dateline, it's not really interesting or shocking anymore. It happens, a lot, nothing I can do about it (or rather I don't care enough to do anything about it). Doesn't seem like anyone was harmed in the process. Although, this is one of the few cases I've heard of it being a woman coming after a teen boy. Normally the story is older guy goes after underage girl (or underage boy, as the case may be), so that's about the only thing that grabbed my attention, aside from the mom part.
  15. The best sub place - My house. Can't beat homemade. Ingredients are fresher and to my tastes, I get exactly what I want on the sub in the amounts and order I want them in, it's cheap, and the options are more open (with Wal-Mart, Publix, Big Lots [which has great deals on food], and Save-A-Lot all within walking/biking distance [ie less than 2 miles, my house is conveniently placed]). /argument. If I had to choose, I would pick Quiznos. They seem to give more food, and fresher food, plus I like their dressings better. Subway is expensive for 2 ultrathin slices of meat, a slice of cheese, and a foot of smooshed, soggy bread.
  16. I have to siggy that....Its just too funny not to have everyone read it. And On Topic, congratulations to your sister dragoonson. Hope all goes well (I'm relatively sure my mother still hates me for my birth...I got stuck...for a long time...lol).
  17. 1 word. Viruses. Only if you use it to try and download programs, then you should get a virus. Videos and images are fine if you don't try .avi (have the worst experiences with those) and delete anything that requires a codec. Simple precautions can save a lot of trouble. Mlbfan13, I say go ahead and download it, and pm me and I'll help you get it setup so it's pretty safe for music/images/video, and maybe a bit faster. I would just buy the full version, it's worth it, and its a donation to Limewire which will make it better for all versions. Getting pro without buying it from them is a bad idea, as most times the version is full of viruses that are hard to detect and harder to remove, unless you're really clever and good with computers. OT: I'm cleaning up my laptop. Deleting old files and screenshots, reorganizing my music collection (too hard to find songs anymore), making new playlists, etc. Also running different system tools like disk defrag and system cleanup, setting new restore points...Routine maintenance. I am also getting ready to learn Java, which is my summer goal, along with at least getting more familiar with CSS and HTML. /geek :ugeek: I'm also watching over my grandparents house/cats while they are away, so I'm enjoying satellite (I can't believe the number of movies I've missed, and one's I'm rather glad I missed now [sweeny Todd was just absolutely messed up, but awesome in a gory, cannabalistic way]). Plus, there are so many snack foods here, on top of the pool (with no neighbors around Nude sunbathing ftw?), and the fishing (this lake is pretty much untouched, so many bass *faints*).
  18. I hate when that happens...last time I went to McDonalds I got into an arguement with the management..Apparently on the 59-cent cheeseburgers, you aren't allowed to save the company money or time...I tried to get it with no onions and no pickles....They refused to do it, for some reason...like the developmentally delayed people in the back can't do the burger without going th ough a checklist of ingredients..."No onions?! where the hell does the bun go then?"...? And it's not illegal as far as I know, it's just frowned upon by the owners. Please, set up a camera when you do try though. Goodbye flawless driving record, Hello Youtube! Illegal or not, go for it. I have from friends who went through on foot. They all stood in the same order they would be in a car but on of them was ahead of the rest making "engine" noises while the rest ordered their food. I am definately trying this...Maybe do it with my group of biker friends and pretend we're on harleys...That should be interesting. And to hawkxs - That's happened to us 3 times at Applebees (all times gotten free meals), once at Denny's (again, free food, we're regulars there so we got a lengthy apology too), Once at Sam Seltzer's, which we got free meals and my grandparents got their cocktails free, and once at TGI Fridays. Sucks to wait so long, but at least we didn't have to pay. OT: The only places that seems to consistently give the right order is chinese food. And the less english they speak, the better it is, I don't get it. I'm not trying to be racist here, but I've never gotten chinese takeout (or sit in, as the case may be) and have them screw it up royally, save maybe forgetting extra sauce now and then, no biggie. Maybe that's why we eat there like 5-6 times a month or more lol. Checkers isn't too bad, except when you get fully loaded fries and find 3 fries, a half lb of fake cheese, and 3 bottles of ranch dressing -.- I don't order that too often anymore, unless my friend is working. Arby's is kindof the same, except sometimes their Beef N Cheddar sandwhich comes loaded with too much cheese (trying to get it on a plain bun is hard enough as it is), but they have never messed up our meal too bad. I never eat at McDonalds without a cupon anymore, they never get my order right, I've had frozen food there, a coke that was more syrup than anything (thanks for the warning, [wagon])...just all together bad experiences. I only go there because when we go riding, they give us free drinks (just a small cup when you ask for water, but they really don't care what you take, I usually get powerade). Sonic is by far the best fast food place I've ever been to. Their food is delicious, always hot and cooked right, and the worst screwup they have ever made with our food? Forgetting the Ranch dressing for my popcorn chicken, which was alright, as it tastes good plain anyways, and the guy brought out some in like 5 seconds anyways : I must find an A&W now, everyone says so many good things about it...Wonder if their rootbeer isn't disgusting, because I can't drink barqs.
  19. Pepsi is better for me, mostly because it's sweeter, and actually has a flavor...I'd rather have cough medicine than diet coke. Regular coke is just..eh, it's alright but I only drink it like in a restaurant if Pepsi is not an option, and nothing else is available. I really don't drink that much soda anymore though, it's either water (and I drink a LOT of water, at least half a gallon per day, but some days, like when I go riding, I'll get about 3-4)....or, instead of water, I drink energy drinks, as they taste better than cola (Monster is ftw).
  20. urbestfreind replied to D Jay99's topic in Off-Topic
If you want a fast way to quit, cancel your membership right before it renews. Sell all your members stuff on the GE and go to non-members. There's so little to do, cold turkey is the next option, and is easier to go for...at least that's how I quit. That and the GE and lack of free trade kindof killed it for me, as I couldn't really do anything I loved, such as group monster hunting...but that's another thread. Oh, and to the programming issue, I would say learn Java first, and if you still want to, learn C++. Java is based off of C++, but is much easier to learn. I would actually start out with something like Visual Basic or Python (I did VB, simply because there was a class on it in my school). Then you can move up to the more advanced languages.
  21. :o so can I! (except it really smells if I have recently eaten a sausageroll...) My friend can kindof do the same thing...something about an extended lung...basically, he can suck air in his...rear....and fart on command, which is hilarious in McDonalds. People leaving meals half-finished, old people yelling at him...good times...also fun to do in the front office of school...sucks he was a Senior.
  22. Green means you're libertarian, or you believe that the people should have the power to control themselves, over the government having the power over the people. The left side of the political spectrum is usually where you believe everyone should have an equal opportunity, and everyone should share the wealth. Right wings believes that personal wealth should be preserved...I believe Republicans are more left-wing, and democrats are more right-wing, but I could be (and probably am) wrong. rushrock, are you right at Ghandi's spot? Or near it? Can't quite remember, but I think he was around there...You're right where I thought I would be (well, shift a bit more left).
  23. PM LP or woopidoo2. Both are superb photographers. You could also make a post in the questions sticky of The Gallery. The gallery is probably your better option here.
  24. I either need a video or a more complete description, because I simply can't piece that together and get something that doesn't defy logic and physics. As far as my talents, humor has to be one of them. I can make almost any situation funny, or at least bearable (like when my grandmother died and me and many of my relatives were there waiting for the undertake. I swore she was going to haunt me). I suppose it would be saying the right thing at the right time. Playing defence. I almost always played defense, save a few soccer games when we were players short, and 2 lacrosse quarters (not including summer lacrosse, which was all short-stick and offense). I just seem to be able to break down offensive plays quickly, and react. Visualization. I can make almost anything a 3D model in my head, really helped in geometry (although I almost failed that for lack of effort). If someone says they did a trick, I can run a movie in my mind that shows the trick, usually with great accuracy. I suppose I would consider processing a talent. I seem to be able to take information and funnel it down into essentials, and react faster than other people. I also have a good ability to estimate distance and reaction times of people, which probably isn't a good thing as its nearly given friends/family a heart attack, especially when I practice driving (I have a permit, so I call it practice), or riding a bike. Reading people is a handy skill I have...Not like IGoddessI can, all that psychological-feelings-therapy type deal, where I can find people's deepest problems or whatever, but being able to determine lies and profile people, and determine how people will react, which has kept me out/put me into a few fights (although the ones I was in I got there on purpose). Fabrication of lies. I'm really good at making a story, making it believable, and sticking to it. Not only has this helped me stay out of jail (our police suck at interrogations tbh, so that may have helped), but it's kept me from expulsion. Chemistry. My teacher said I was a natural at chemistry, and I picked up the concepts way before the class did..I ended up with 108% in that class from high grades and getting the max extra credit points. I used to help her mix chemicals and stuff before/after school if I had nothing better to do...her class became like a study hall for me - do her work in 10 minutes, 45 minutes for other stuff. Then again, I was always good at science, winning 2 science fairs (out of 4, but one I lost because I didn't bother to do anything, I just made up believable numbers and threw together a model), and I did bad in biology because frankly, I didn't care, at all.
  25. [hide=My Graph]Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -3.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.05 [/hide] Interesting...I thought I was way more left-wing liberal than this shows I am. Oh well, I guess I still have some hope left for our government. Lol at OP, right on the Hitler spot.
