  2. I would just disassemble the computer, clean out the parts with a vacuum for any large particles of dust, and then blast it (gently around like the motherboard) with some compressed air. Just be careful how you hold the can, and not to shake it. If you hold it at the wrong angle, liquid will shoot out and insta-freeze whatever it lands on, and can lead to cracking (and burns for you). Make sure you clean the fans really well, and any openings. Removal of parts is optional, but well-recommended, provided you know what went where, and how to reassemble everything (if not, don't worry, I've dusted a few out before without removing anything). If possible, remove the computer from an enclosed space should it be in one (like the inside of a desk), and out in the open (I often hook it up in the middle of the lanai, or kitchen, but in the Kitchen I have no internet, lanai I just take my mom's). This will ensure that air can pass through the system more easily. What you may have to do is cut a vent-hole in your desk (my dad had to do this...twice), blow a fan at the front of it so it can increase airflow (again, my dad), or cut a hole in the case or mount a new fan in there to increase airflow. Although, if you do have a graphics card that is compatible with your motherboard, switch it and see if that was the problem...and try to hook it up to another monitor (just for S&G)...If not...uhh...wait for Clare...lol
  3. Are you using NoScript (firefox addon)? Because you may have to add YT to the list of trusted sites (same is also possible if you use FlashBlock). Check and either disable (not recommended), or whitelist youtube, or even the specific video url. If not, try using another browser to download flash player, or to attempt to watch the video. You could do an uninstall and reinstall of Firefox, or boot it in safe mode (IIRC: start > programs > Mozilla FireFox > Mozilla FireFox Safe Mode), and if it works then, an addon or something else is the culprit.
  4. I didn't see any laws against it, but I believe you have to be 18 to purchase it. Just try not to point it at people, especially if it looks realistic, or else you may face many armed policemen. And make sure you don't buy a shotgun and give it to a 7 year old in the back seat of a car with a policeman following you. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wale ... 192217.stm Oh, and I don't know about the laws there, but peeping in on people is definitely illegal here.
  5. I have done all of the above, although that steel wool thing is open for discussion (alright, maybe not here, but still). These need further explanation...I seriously hope the jumping one was a dare...and I don't get the purpose of even trying the first one.
  6. =[ Country bashers! I'll admit, some of the newer stuff is pretty bad, but from 5+ years ago, country was really good. I disagree. I absolutely can not listen to screamo. I've tried, believe me. But anything even remotely hardcore (think of Disturbed as the limit, and even then there are songs I skip), I have to turn off. Death metal, black metal, dark metal in general are all things I can't listen to...There's actually very few genres of songs with Metal in them that I like (power metal isn't too bad). You aren't looking into it hard enough. I don't claim to really be a fan of rap, but I don't think it's a horrible genre. What would you recommend? I hate the modern stuff that plays a lot just because it's so damn stupid. I think some of the more talented earlier artists I could get into though. Nadril, I have to disagree with you on the rap part. There are very few rappers, or indeed anyone from that or related genres (hip-hop, pop, etc), who can even get close to being considered good. And as for country artists, try to find something that isnt too modern (like, before '04). It all depends on how you like to listen to music. If you want slow songs, listen to some Keith Urban. Something faster would be like Chattahoochee by Alan Jackson. If you want faster, go to the Devil went down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band...alright, southern rock, but he did country too)...Just going from memory here (alright, I forgot the artist for Chattahoochee). Other Artists: Shania Twain ("I feel like a woman") Brooks & Dunn ("Hard Workin' Man"; "Rock My World (Little Country Girl") Tim McGraw ("Don't Take the Girl" [really sad song]; Trace Adkins ("Honky Tonk Badonkadonk"; maybe "Songs About Me)
  7. I choose the Superman levitation style. Wings would just be inconvenient, along with you being affected by the massive size required to generate lift (I mean, bird - 5 lbs...Girl...105 lbs)...Plus, you have to fight the winds, find a suitable landing/takeoff site, figure out a way to wear shirts again (and other...uhh...."support")...Ahh who am I kidding...you have giant like 8 foot (each) wings, who is going to argue with you? Especially if they are Lenin wings (how exactly do you harness Power into a tangible form, that is stable?). But, then again, there is the issue of flapping the wings and everything tiring you out, plus, anyone ever heard of clipping a bird's wings? All it takes is one pissed off parent or friend to screw you over. Eh, in any case, Superman style it is.
  8. What the bloody kittens are you talking about, cant use the key to reinstall a version of windows? You saying I can't use the XP install disc and the product key and have a working version of windows? That's where I declare you wrong. And KillDisk isn't really worth it (I mean, it's 50 bucks...come on...srsly?)
  9. Weapon: Chuck Norris (for he is no mere person) Song: Disturbed - The Game Person: Lenin64.
  10. Downloading albums are we? *tsk tsk* Buy at amazon or itunes, kay? But, while I'm here, I may as well give a reason and some fixes. There are a few reasons why this could be happening. The first is outlined in red letters - you've reached the download limit. You can only download from them once every hour or once every day, something like that. Have you tried refreshing the page? If you just let it sit there for 3 hours, then you've probably hit problem number one. Refresh the page, and delete any cookies too, see if that fixes the problem. Fix number 2: Wait until tomorrow. Let 24+ hours pass and try again, everything should be reset by then. There are a few other fixes, but I fear I've said too much.
  11. And should it be all scratched to hell, or you don't happen to have/find one, then all hope is not lost. http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ That key finder should get your that number (it's worked for me in the past). If you don't trust it, download it and scan it with your arsenal of antivirus programs, or use Housecall or Kaspersky's online scanner. Both will allow you to scan the file and check for viruses, etc, although there hasn't been any problems in the past wit it from anyone I know or anything I've read.
  12. Kill them. Simple fix. If you happen to not relish the idea of murder, you could try hooking your computer up to a wired connection. My dad frequently complains that his computer is slow doing things when I'm online downloading something (like Frets on Fire song packs lol), or doing something graphics-and-internet-intensive. Hooking my laptop up to a regular jack (you know, cat5 cable) seems to solve this problem... And just so I know, hitting that reset button will remove all of the passwords and settings?..and if so, is there any way to backup some of the settings (like, if I just wanted the password removed)? Configuring routers again = waste of time + not fun.
  13. +1 to DBAN But before going to DBAN, make sure you have the product key (the like 25 character key that is used to register the Operating System), and the OS disc. Without the OS disc, DBAN will turn your hard drive into an expensive brick. If you want a less thorough deletion, use the OS disc (any disc will work, as long as its the same edition as your OS, such as XP Professional, and you have the product key), and do a windows format, by booting from the disc (insert it, shut down the computer, restart, enter BIOS, by hitting delete or whatever key says use -key- to enter BIOS, and set it to boot from discs first).
  14. Mm, tough decision. 1. Unoalexi 2. Cowboy14 3. Destro3979 Kinda waiting for POTM 4...depending on the theme I may actually attempt to enter (since I have some free time to devote to it now).
  15. A: Beat good into him with a drum set....then kill him. Q: Is it possible to swim in pudding?
  16. It depends on what your business is...if you're selling something, maybe set up a site so people can check out what you have, and make orders (you can just have them fill out a form and it gets sent to you by e-mail or something like that, so you can do business at night too)...Figured I'd throw something out there until the experts come on and give ideas that I would never have thought of to bring you in more money, and/or prove me wrong.
  17. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 Was that what you were looking for? I think you need FF3 to use it, because when I tried to use it, it said I needed an upgrade, and I'm using 2.0.0.14 (haven't upgraded yet). If not, just let me know and I'll keep looking.
  18. I've never met someone who took a dump as the result of a conditional statement..If NeedToDump = true and NailTipLength = false then PrairieDog = true? :ohnoes: I don't get the whole hair folding up thing...maybe its because I can't sleep unless I lay on my side, but still... I like that Star Wars reference...though it probably gets some pretty weird looks eh?
  19. Winner. urbestfreind live in the southern US? ;) If not you have the same great tastes as us down here. First, I second the Baconator winner (bacon is good on so many things). Second, I live in Southwest Florida. It's hard to find good Barbeque down here..First you have to not get killed by the masses of old people who try to run you over with their car (or wheelchair, as the case may be). Usually I just eat homemade, but I did find one place that made the best pulled pork I've ever had the pleasure to eat, but he closed down (still works at the block party sometimes, haven't seen him in awhile though). Anyways, I found some more foods that I enjoy. [hide=Beef Jerky...Underwear?] Yes, it is, in fact, a pair of beef jerky underwear. I must find these! lol, but seriously, if the only meat I could have was beef jerky, I would die a happy (and probably malnourished) girl.[/hide] [hide=skittles][/hide] [hide=gummy coke bottles!] OMG! I LOVE these things! I can never find them, except at some parks like in Orlando, but that's a 3 hour drive, plus the cost of park admission...=( I need to find a way to get these again, they're so good![/hide] [hide=Biscuits! (comfort food)] I love biscuits (in more ways than one ;) )[/hide] [hide=Cinnamon Buns (Honey Buns too)] Om nom nom nom nom nom.... ....nom nom nom nom nom. If I could live on these forever, I would.[/hide]
  20. ~~Food~~ [hide=Barbeque Pulled Pork Sammich][/hide] [hide=I want my baby back (large image)][/hide] [hide=Cheesecake!][/hide] ~~Drinks~~ [hide=Wild Turkey (American Honey)] Shame I can't legally have it, but the times I did =D>[/hide] [hide=Sweet tea (large image)] Not that I've never actually had this brand, but it says sweet tea on it so it works.[/hide] [hide=Monster M80][/hide]
  21. Computers...Definately....Fixing, using, programming, tweaking, buying..All of it. I can spend hours upon hours on the computer, and most of the time not gaming either. Gaming. Mostly on the computer (although GH and GTA [all versions] are exceptions). Spend a lot of time on various games, although I don't play RuneScape anymore, I am getting into World of Warcraft, and I play Frets on Fire (GH emulator), and Stepmania occasionally (DDR emulator). Gambling. It's not really a severe problem, yet, but I do enjoy the risk. I don't do it often, but if a card game presents itself, and I have some spare money, I'm usually up for playing. Alchohol. I don't really drink much (mostly because I'm underaged), but I'm not exactly one to turn down a drink (save most beers, only a few have actually passed off as decent, but never great). Although I've never been piss-drunk before, and I only drink at home or with some form of supervision, be it a parent or a few friends who haven't had anything. Energy drinks. I don't know how many times I've gone over the limit posted on the back of the can (you know, only drink 3 of these a day). I've cut down after nearly fainting once, but I still enjoy a can of Monster or something if I'm really tired and need the boost (such as waking up at 5 for a bowling tournament -.-), or if I have spare money and want something other than water. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ On top of all that, I do have some healthier addictions. Riding (Cycling to some people, I call it riding).. I just recently got back into this, but I almost never turn down an offer to go riding around town. It's great exercise, and it's even more fun now that I can do some tricks. I did ride to and from school every day, and went riding for at least 3 and a half hours every Friday. I still go out on Fridays with friends, and 2-3 times a week aside from that, weather permitting. Bowling. I'm a member of 2 leagues, although one (for my school) is no longer in session, I carry around a 160-170 average, depending on the alley (one league is my main house, where I have the 170, the school league is the house a few miles away, where I have about a 160-165). I can't get enough of bowling. I probably spend, when both leagues are in session and tournaments are up, 100-150 dollars per month on bowling alone (not including food, gas, etc.). Not to mention all the time I spend bowling (upwards of 15 hours a week). Reading. I can burn through a few hundred pages a weekend (I read one of the harry potter books in a day, but then again I was in a cast and had nothing better to do, since I couldn't walk without crutches, which hurt like hell). Sunflower seeds. Just plain delicious, although a bit nasty (I get them shelled, but I spit out the shells, usually in a plastic bottle if no trashcan is nearby). Nasty, but I see no harm in it.
  22. I would have to pretty much +1 everything snipersas mentioned here. I'd be happy to do a little research into parts for you, as I've been looking to build a new computer myself. We definitely need to know an approximate budget and your country though. You may want to check out a few of the other builds on this forum too, to get a general idea on parts and price (but don't try to copy builds, because that's just not cool).
  23. DBAN [/thread] Alright...I suppose I shall give an explanation. Darik's Boot and Nuke, or in short, DBAN, is a HDD wiper that will completely and totally erase all contents of your hard drive. Everything, from the OS to the drivers to, well, anything else, will be erased. To be sure that everything is gone, run it 2-3 times. If you have the OS disc and all the other discs (for your various cards and parts), this is the best option IMO. Just remember that you will need at least the OS disc, to reinstall windows. Else, use that OS disc to use the seriously flawed and non-thorough Windows Formatting.
  24. Well, first off, at I must find a way to add that to my signature without it getting deleted for having too much text. Sorry to hear about your weekend, but at least you had the patience to wait for the ambulance...Had it been me, we would have dragged that sorry bastard to the hospital, and then proceed to murder every one of the drivers for that hospital, plus the dispatchers, most likely with the blacking out, seizuring corpse of your buddy... I've seen drunk...I've seen big people drunk...I've never seen or heard of something that bad. Why didn't you just tell him there was free booze at the hospital...or just kick him in the temple....that should slow him down (permanently). At least you were being the good citizen and helping the person in need. I must say you are a better person that I.
  25. sbrideau2000, thanks for the post, but I already know what I should use for keeping my computer safe, after having made a post about it many weeks ago (believe it was lost in the rollback), and through my computer magazines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll try all of the above and get back to you with the results. Thanks for the post! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your belief is way off base. I have both a CD drive and a DVD drive in my desktop. I tried the disc in the DVD drive (since it is a DVD), and the drive seemed like it was working, but it wasn't...Then I tried to see if the CD drive might work (weirder things have happened, so I gave it a shot), and nothing...I know for a fact the CD drive works because I had just used it. Also, I can not use my friend's discs because the second one is corrupt. I try to install it, or even copy the file from the disc, and about halfway through, it says there's some redundancy error, and before that it said it couldn't read the file. I'm not going to reformat the drives except as an absolute last resort. While it is an option (well..not reformat, but DBANing, which is a reformat and then some), it's the furthest one down on my list. Never say my only option is to ditch the system if your one suggestion doesn't work..I'm sure many people, including those on this forum, would disagree with you (and some, including myself, may refer to a flogging/bludgeoning for such ignorant behavior).
