  1. It looks really good so far, can't wait to see the finished sig. My only problem right now is the herb...it just looks weird, like it was just quickly scribbled on. Hopefully it will be a bit more refined in another update? The shading on his arm looks weird too..its like it goes pretty good til the elbow, where there is a band of dark skin and a band of light, which stands out a lot and just doesn't look good to me..
  2. First I would say post your specs...if you don't know them, the fastest way to get some info in is right click on my computer, select properties, and take a screenshot of that. Also, how long has this been going on, and what exactly are you running/doing when it happens? Plus, if this didn't happen in the past, can you remember anything that you did before the problem started happening that may have caused this problem? You should be a bit more specific about the problem, because the more details we have, the faster the problem can be solved.
  3. He was run out of the village. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=748262 That should help explain things.
  4. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed it was a wii game, not a computer game. But to your other comment, suicide will get no pity from me, for it doesn't deserve any. You all can go feel bad and have a little cry-fest with your feelings, while I laugh at the idiot and be thankful that's one less gene I have to worry about affecting the gene pool.
  5. I think that books are better than movies by a lot. Books give more detail (because a book can be 5-50,000+ pages, a movie is usually 1-4 hours). Also, a book allows you to create everything in your mind. You make the characters look in your mind how you want them to, you make the scenes look how you want, and you get all the nice little details that help make the book. Movies are also great, because they let you have the experience of reading the book in a fraction of the time, but at the expense of details and imagination. Seriously, my view of Hogwarts from the book (I only chose Harry Potter because it's so popular) and the one portrayed in the movie were two very, very different places. Books are just more engrossing and interesting to me. I do enjoy watching movies based on books though. Especially in a series (Harry Potter, for example), because you can see things better in your mind as you read the book, because it's already been rendered for you. If I have to choose between a book and a movie, I'll generally choose the book. Although some movies are just must-sees (Animal House wouldn't be anywhere near as funny as a book...the Revenge of the Nerds series would have made a terrible book too...just as some examples).
  6. Why not just cover yourself in motor oil, get a big dress, and go as Oprah... Although I suppose Marilyn Monroe and Elvis works.
  7. No, you're absolutely right. I just happened to hit the wrong key (I was only a key off though, not too bad), and since I had just received news dinner was ready, I didn't go through and check again to see if I missed anything. My bad #-o I set fire to that book as soon as my teacher said we were done with it. I absolutely hated it..the only worse book I've read in school is The Pearl.. penguingeek3 - If you're going to read Wizard's First Rule, be prepared to read about 8,000 pages, because there is an extremely high chance you will want to read the rest of the books right away (I started with the sixth book [christmas gift], and I immediately started searching for others by him, which is when I learned about the series). All of the people I recommended the book to did the same lol. It's a really powerful series...It changed my views thoughts on many things. And you could finish the SoT in the rest of the summer, but I advise against it. It took me a bit over a year to read the whole series (starting at christmas 06 and ending sometime in february of this year). I brought these books to school and probably read more than I did classwork (still managed to improve my gpa by .23 though \ ). Then again, I went through 2 harry potter books in less than a week (Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince..or mabye it was GoF and OotF, still...). So if you have that much spare time, go ahead, I just rather read slow and carefully and get everything absorbed than speed through it and maybe miss something. His Dark Materials is definitely worth reading. You could buy that trilogy and read it over the summer (or a few weeks, doubt it would take all summer, maybe 1-2 weeks for me), then get SoT and WoT for the schoolyear. Just try to read all collections at once (like reading all 3 His Dark Materials, then all 12 Sword of Truth, then all 12?...Wheel of Time)..Don't split it up, because you lose too much.
  8. Am I the only one who read this and thought "the Wii is not a computer, and it's not a computer game, it's a Wii game?" :ugeek: Anyways, it's not really saddening to me, it's just stupid. Kid got pissed because he couldn't play his games...that describes bad parenting to me. They should have taught him games aren't everything, and looked for help because, as said in the article, this isn't the first time a tantrum had been thrown over games (or over something else), and it seems they were quite serious. And how the hell did they think the hanging wasn't on purpose? Of course it was [bleep]ing on purpose. He was hanging from his bed with the tie wrapped around the bar. That doesn't happen by the damn suicide fairy. And to Adam007 and some others, how does the brain die after 6 minutes...Anyone remember David Blaine's "Drowned Alive" thing? He spent 7 minutes and 8 seconds underwater, on one breath, so apparently that theory is out the door. Someone else did it for 9 minutes and 15 seconds (the world record), and many others have attempted the same feat...So, apparently the brain can last for more than 6 minutes.. If you hang someone, your intention is to first break their neck, causing them to be paralyzed (and therefore immobile). Then, they die of suffocation because they can't move to remove the noose. This causes the brain to shut down due to lack of blood flow, cardiac arrest (slowed heartbeat due to lack of blood flow), and, of course, suffocation due to a restricted airway. So yes, there are many different possible causes of death, including some not listed...
  9. Do you even realize how much it actually costs Arby's or any other restaurant that serves pop from a fountain to serve that glass? It costs them a mere 5 cents to serve you that pop. With them serving pop at a 150% price increase, they should easily be able to afford to do the 5 for $5.95, which they had been doing for over 5 years! Inflation really doesn't have anything to do with this. No other restaurants have raised their prices. Hardee's offers a roast beef sandwich and that has been the same price since I can remember. Actually, it used to be just 5 for $5. They upped it to $5.95 a few years ago, but it's still worth it. And I'm guilty of occasionally taking something other than water. Normally I will grab water, but occasionally I'll feel compelled to grab a bit of powerade (as its right next to the water and at least has some flavor). I've been yelled at before and gladly paid for a large when I only had a small cup (they only give the smallest size for free). Then again, I went to McDonads a lot as it was open early and was pretty much on my way to school, so if I forgot breakfast or had some spare money, I'd run in and grab a sandwhich or some coffee (this was before Panera opened. Their food is much better, but a bit more out of the way and the chance of being late/being hit by a car is higher, so I only go if I'm real hungry and have a lot of spare time), so they usually don't care. And it is quite annoying to find something marked wrong, because you just waste your time bringing it in. It's much easier to search by the hanger size first, but I've gone to searching tags automatically because it's hung up wrong way too often. Takes more time, but saves more frustration.
  10. In the world minus Soviet Russia, Lenin kills you. In Soviet Russia, Lenin still kills you. Remember, we're talking about someone who has blood 3 1/3 times the strength of Jesus'. There's no escape. OT: "I'm thinking about getting a mac as my next computer...It's going to be a gaming computer.".... #-o I hate the technologically delayed. Btw, that conversation was shortened, but that's the essentials.
  11. I just got Google SketchUp, and I'm messing around with different designs in it. I've only had it for a few hours, and most of the time I was watching videos of people creating things, but it's still fun for the time I used it. I hope to make a model of a desk on it and then build it, save some money on a pre-built and get exactly what I want, without the hassle of starting from scratch (no drawing or nothing). Really useful program. Other than messing with that, I'm also preparing to learn Java (getting the compiler and reading up a bit more on the basics before I go through my tutorial book). That and I'm starting to organize my computer. Starting with bookmarks, then I'll move to my multimedia collection :ohnoes: Only like a thousand files to go through there (and that's not including all my screenshots which I have to change from one program to another (most are saved in wordpad, I need to convert them to another file type, using paint)...It's a large undertaking lol.
  12. That reminds me, apparently there's a book called epic... :-s And my mom wants me to get some books to read over the summer...I think I've made a good list using the posts from this thread, The Sword of Truth and Ranger's Apprentice are at the top. Wheel of Time and Pendragon are also ones I'd like to check out, but probably won't have time. Any other suggestions? I'm looking for fantasy, preferably with a lot of fighting. Can't really stand books where all that happens is talking. Ahh, you'll love the Sword of Truth (SoT) series then. The book is centered around fighting, one giant army (think 85% of the world or more), versus almost everyone else. There is a bit of talk, but it's all interesting (especially if you enjoy philosophy and strategy), and all the fights are incredibly epic. If you're a bit of a history buff, you'll be able to see many similarities between famous battles and the battles within the book. If you want a good fantasy, read 1984 by George Orwell. Fantastic book, and has a really good message. It's a bit boring in the beginning, but trust me, it's well worth the wait reading the boring parts. I've read it 4-5 times and each time I'll read something different, and get something else out of it. Also, check out His Dark Materials. It's really a fantastically done series. There isn't as much fighting as compared to like SoT series, but it's still worth the time to read.
  13. Well, you are near the left-wing, which means that you embrace change. Libertarians and leftists believe that there should be more of an equal distribution of wealth/land and supplies, and that power should be more in the control of the people than in the hands of a centralized power. America embraces many of these ideals. On the other side of the graph, the right-wings, have a more controlling, personal approach. They believe more that what you have is yours, and should remain yours, not be split up among other people. And they also believe in a more conservative view, and more of a central power controlling things. You can think of a monarchy or aristocracy as right-side (or for something maybe more familiar - Nazism.
  14. Exactly. The thing is, the bullying will reach an apex, and will slack off to the point of being virtually non-existant (in most cases). Most people can't take it up to this crest, so other things must be done. Trust me, anger management and other counseling is usually a waste of time and money. Unless the person has a true desire to change, nothing will happen. I've not only been through this firsthand, but know others who have as well. Getting out of therapy is incredibly easy, and even if you see the course through to the end, chances are high that a relapse will occur. +1 to that. Ah, consider yourself lucky. Stepping in for someone is great, and I'll commend you for that, but sometimes it's the worst course of action to take. It will leave some bullies with the ideal that their victim can't handle anything themselves, and will usually lead to more hazing, and occasionally more violence. Plus, the chances of a group-attack are higher because they know that the victim has friends looking out for them, and will need to overcome this. I'm not saying it's a bad course of action, but it must be taken carefully to avoid future complications. It seems, from the original post, that this has already come and passed (possibly multiple times), which is why I suggested bringing in a higher authority, such as the head of a school (one of the deans at my school was great for things like this, he knocked quite a few heads together), or the police depending on what has happened and how much evidence there is. deloriagod has some good advice here. Knowing how to fight is great, and if you practice different types, you can have the upper hand in almost any situation, provided you know more than they do. I wouldn't exactly advise against a weapon either. Not a knife, but I've scared off a few people with my bike lock (mostly because it's about 2.5 fingers thick and weighs a good 5lbs, and is like 5' long). And, I can carry it around in school and around other places without looking suspicious or being arrested (unless seen whipping people for no reason). Just, try to avoid this if possible.
  15. I've argued this many times with various teachers and adults, and many of them disagree with me, although two of my science teachers and my physics teacher agreed, which gave me more confidence in them as teachers. For most intents and purposes, the object hit the floor and bounced back, but I believe it's true that no two objects are ever touching, but are separated by a thin layer of..err..something..can't remember, but I read it somewhere. myshadow7, we divide by 2 because...well, I don't feel like explaining it fully...but... If you divide by one, the pencil doesn't hit the floor, it stays suspended in space, because 1 foot divided by 1 is 1 foot. 1285 meters divided by 1 is 1285 meters...It wouldn't move up or down. Hence you use 2.
  16. I have a question that's been bugging me for ages about the time travel thing. If you decided to travel back in time, wouldn't your life end there? Because you would progress forward in time to the point were you travelled back, in in infinite loop, right? Or maybe I'm missing something... In any case, I think metamorphosis would be epic. Being able to change everything from hair color to body shape, and being able to manipulate yourself to fit in any situation would be awesome. There's very little you couldn't do with it. Something else I've always wanted is artistic ability. I would absolutely love to be able to draw anything I wanted, make it look realistic, and be able to make a living off of it. You can read all the tutorials in the world and still never be able to create something truly magnificent, because being able to do great art is something I believe is inherited, not taught (although teaching can hone the skills, something needs to be there to start).
  17. Ignoring does work, but you have to be completely committed to doing it. You can't allow one lapse or else the bullies will leap on it like a hungry lion on a crippled zebra. And talking to the "higher authorities" imo never helps. Sure, you may get temporary relief, but you're just going to piss off the person you told on even more, then then you enter a new level of hell. Ignoring people can work over an extended period of time, but be prepared to endure the worst before it gets better. If they are ignored and think nothing is having an effect, you're going to get it worse until they finally realize that it's no use, which can take quite a considerable chunk of time. I'd say just go ahead and whip their [wagon] (possibly literally, depending on size difference). That usually sets people straight...Just make sure you have friends with you for awhile after, because chances of a backlash are high (and you do not want to have to walk a mile and a half home after getting your [wagon] whipped by 2-3 people, trust me).
  18. Virgin Media has been getting a lot of flack for their policies. If you use bittorrent or something like that, they will either cut your speed in half or block you entirely. They also do this for people who use a lot of bandwidth and download a lot of files. You're lucky they haven't completely cut you off from the internet, or sent out one of their "letters" explaining that you have 1-2 more chances and then you can't use them as an ISP. I say that you should switch to a new ISP that doesn't block downloads. This thread explains the matter a bit more, and if you read some posts further down, will give you some ideas on other ISPs that you can switch to. Really, Virgin Media is shooting themselves in the foot here. And switching to one of their faster plans won't help at all, they'll still cut you off.
  19. It's already happening... I get a subscription to quite a few magazines, and I remember reading quite a few articles, mostly in Popular Mechanics (Scientific American also had a good article about it IIRC), about how wireless electricity is coming closer to public release. Wikipedia has a decent article that talks about the underlying concepts between wireless energy. After a bit of searching, I found the Scientific American article about the light bulb they powered electrically.
  20. Forget all that, the worse would involve Lenin himself, with evil_mumm_ra and a knife collection at his side....Tanks have nothing against a person with blood stronger than Jesus' And skate pretty much said what I was going to say, so just consider this post backing up his :
  21. Where were you yesterday lol? We got a call that someone had broken into my grandparent's house, you shoulda been there to kick their [wagon]. Apparently they didn't get far, the alarm and the attack-kitties scared them off : And to MrShiny, I got chased by a dog once...I punched it in the face (can't remember if it was in the nose or between the eyes)...The dog never chased anyone else.... :?
  22. viewtopic.php?f=45&t=748842 for uploading the video, this is assuming you have windows movie maker (just import the audio and get an image from images.google.com for the album cover of NIN. And if you still have an open judge spot I'll take it. I won't sing though :-#
  23. urbestfreind replied to Da Pirates's topic in Off-Topic
/h/....... Oh shut up, /h/ is not that bad. What about /d/ or /hc/? Those can be, and usually are, much worse than /h/. Have you been to /hc/ recently? Horrid. At least /h/ looks good most of the time. Just because it doesn't suit your interest doesn't make it the worst board on 4chan. Now if you said /y/ I would probably agree to a point, I hate that board. /gif/ can go either way, some days there are good gifs on there, other days it's absolutely horrible.
  24. ^I had to do it... Seriously though, congratulations. It's a cute baby
  25. Now imagine if everyone with a question on T&C followed that advice... It doesn't hurt to be cautious, especially working with Windows.
