  1. Oh so since my opinion disagrees with your opinion (which clearly stated by you is better than mine) I shouldn't express it? I'm not flaming him whatsoever, just stating that I thought that it was a poorly written article. I had no idea that it was a guest author, and a lot of the time, I dislike when the Editor does columns. If I have an opinion on something, I'm going to express it. I actually think I could write a far better article or short summary than this author, but I'd rather not waste my time writing something about RuneScape. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literary_technique Here's a list of literary techniques. Granted many of these are not applicable to the style (creative non-fiction) that the author is using, I doubt more than 2 of these were used in the article.
  2. What I'm speaking of is very much related to 9/11. I think the fact that our government is detaining people on just a "suspicion" that they are terrorists is absolutely terrible. If there isn't evidence in the first place, they shouldn't be detained. You're wrong about them getting lawyers. Here's evidence: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/feb/20/politics.terrorism They may get lawyers during the TRIALS, but to not have a lawyer present during interrogation and torture is the point I was trying to make. Those are the most important times. You can get a suspect to say anything if they don't have a lawyer present. Just ask the seasoned veteran defense attorney James Duane. I've watched this whole video (both parts) and know my rights. I doubt you know yours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8z7NC5sgik http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/rightsandfreedoms/a/habeuscorpus.htm OH NO! Could you be....wrong? With all these points brought up and with factual evidence, unlike ALL of your arguments, why don't you just take a seat.
  3. Born and raised in Wisconsin, there is no other choice.
  4. Wow. You obviously don't know anything about writing or composition at all. A great writer can turn nothing into an amazing piece with style alone. If you want to write something respectable, it needs to follow the guidelines. Now that isn't to say that each thing you write has to be from the same stock, though. I think you're in need of a University level writing course, possibly even a high school composition class. Talk to some authors and tell them what you have to say about writing, I'd be interested to hear their responses.
  5. Are you sure that those two examples are the only things that have happened since 9/11? I love your factual evidence that is put behind them as well. Maybe if you understood the constitution a little better, you'd see why those are atrocities. I've said it before, but I don't care if someone is suspected of terrorism or not, if they are a citizen of the United States, they deserve to be backed by the constitution in their private matters. Yet since 9/11, the government has taken that away from them. What about the suspension of Habeas Corpus? In other words, the government can hold suspected terrorists, without trial, for as long as they desire in captivity. Oh yeah and I forgot one other thing: They don't get lawyers either. Sounds like the table is tilted just a little bit, don't you think? I think that if you really try hard, you can see where these actions are going, but I doubt you're willing to think outside of the box. Those red, white, and blue blinders you have on seem to fit you pretty well. Here's a little reading material for you. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200409/s1195161.htm Imagine how many more could be out there that they have illegally detained.
  6. Yeah, if you go into college without a plan on what you want to do. For me college is definitely NOT over-rated at all. I'm studying to become a history teacher and college is the only way to become one. And another thing, I'm pretty damn sure that college is more expensive than your $20,000 estimate. I'm at St. Cloud State (a public university) and I pay nearly $13,000 per year with room and board. Not to be an [wagon], but I don't think anyone who is still in high school has a place telling others what college is like.
  7. Go Pack Go. Cheesehead for life.
  8. Well it seems to me that since Bush in the pockets of most of the major oil companies, he'd have a great reason to plan this. Oil prices soar, oil companies make record profits, and Bush and his criminal friends profit from the oil companies' success. There are things about the towers collapsing that are still fishy to me, but at least we have evidence that planes actually hit them. Then again it wouldn't be the first time the country killed its own civilians to support a personal agenda. After 9/11 we relinquished some of the freedoms we had in exchange for the illusion of security, when in reality, we are no more secure than we were pre-9/11. Maybe if you took off the red, white, and blue glasses you seem to be looking through, you MIGHT see some of the atrocities that are happening in this country, and maybe that might make you think about the government a little differently. Edit: So I watched like 30 seconds of that video for kicks and they put a picture of Jesus crying in there? Come on...
  9. You realize you probably killed it because of it being so scared for six hours.
  10. Funny you should mention this, last night a few of my friends were wandering around campus (high of course) trying to catch this squirrel that was running away from us. It ended in the squirrel getting away and us laying on the ground for 15 minutes in a laughing fit.
  11. First of all, way to correct my first spelling mistake in probably over a year on here. I suppose that I'll keep correcting you on your ever increasing moronic logic if you take care of my spell-check duties in the near future. Thanks in advance. But to the main point of this, I do not believe the government worked with anyone on this. Anyone with some scientific background and minimal observational skills can tell that the "plane" that crashed into the Pentagon was definitely NOT a plane. Like stated in the Alex Jones movies, all the government has to do to get me on their side is release pictures with the actual plane in the picture instead of just a few explosion pictures. By the way, I think Alex Jones is quite moronic (ironically he reminds me a lot of you) in his documentary and I don't believe half the things that are said in it. But if you step back from the whole situation and instead of looking at the tragedy and heroic pictures the government is painting for us, you look at the aftermath and all the things that have fallen into place because of it, you'll understand. I guess I can't say anything else besides that. Maybe witnessing the government lying to us for almost the entire last century makes me skeptical of believing anything they tell me.
  12. No, I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the author at all, just that the article WASN'T WELL WRITTEN. I don't care if the author was Aldous Huxley, if it isn't well written, I'm not going to praise it. There was very little material in the article, it wasn't colorful at all, and it didn't even have a hook.
  13. This was just...terrible. Almost no discussion value comes out of this at all.
  14. Ok really, these sudo-patriotic bits you're posting are getting quite annoying. Everyone knows the "story" of 9/11 and all of the heroic acts that *apparently* happened. I don't believe any of those phone calls were real from the planes, and I also don't believe the planes other than the WTC were terrorist controlled.
  15. Go St. Cloud State.
  16. Haha not much, just thought I'd get you on a technicality :P
  17. In case you didn't notice, I hate desktop icons, but I love Danny Carey's Paiste Bronze Kit.
  18. Technically since we citizens elected all our representatives, members of congress, and our president, we indirectly declared war. I think most of the country backed declaring war when this all happened. Our elected officials represent the population of The United States of America. Personally, they do not represent me, but that's only because I choose to remain apathetic.
  19. Dark Side of the Moon full album. I can never get sick of listening to this masterpiece. It's just so beautiful and eye-opening.
  20. You just completed one of my life goals, man. Except substitute Greece in there along with Egypt. NZ looks like the place I would have liked to go the most. I took a trip out to NYC 4 years ago and absolutely loved the city, but I hated the Empire State Building (very afraid of heights :ohnoes: ) and the 90 mph winds swaying the building just didn't do it for me though haha.
  21. This is just my personal opinion, but I believe that bands that "play in the name of god" are exploiting Christianity. I'm not saying that they do it consciously (although I wouldn't be surprised if some do), but when you have a message that says "We believe in god, and our band is dedicated to playing music devoted to Jesus", I think that you can get more people to buy a poorly produced or not artistically talented record as long as it is "for Jesus". Now I'm not saying that Underoath is a horribly untalented band (in fact I find their drummer to be particularly talented), but I just don't enjoy the possibility of bands exploiting something that may be very personal to a certain group of people (myself not included). And I guess the fact that I can't stand listening to bands that sing about god, but that's just because I'm an Agnostic.
  22. I think the only people that should really be affected by this day are the ones who lost family or friends in it. Most people on these boards didn't even really comprehend the gravity of the situation when it happened. Most of you were in elementary school. Sure your teacher told you what happened, but I bet you any amount of money the next few days the talk at the lunch table over peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches was definitely NOT about the soon to be war on terror or the mechanics behind the attacks. Was it a terrible thing? Absolutely, but so are many other things that have happened to innocent civilians around the world (as stated by previous references to World War 2 and Africa) that don't get nearly as much attention as this. As a country we need to collectively get over this whole deal. I think in my lifetime my parents have only said ONCE where they were when Kennedy was assassinated, and it seems to me that when the President of the United States is killed, that's a bigger deal. The idea of extreme patriotism when something happens to your country and being massively upset about it, is quite pointless if you ask me.
  23. Am I the only one that is sick of hearing about where people were "when it happened"? It just seems like every story is the same.
