Quest Items: Keep or Dump?
Most items can be retrieved again if they serve a purpose after the quest. The following is an excellent thread from the Archive of Wisom. It explains how to retrieve multiple copies of useful items, but it also explains how to retrieve them again in the first place, so it should give you some more useful insight. Dragnfly's Guide to 1-Item Objects (AOW) Note: Since the release of this guide, some updates have been made that now allow you to retrieve certain items that were not possible to retrieve again at the time of publishing. Here is one update that I can think of from the top of my head. Pendant of Armadyl - Tradable: No [*:2ypiv74t]I have not tested whether you can retrieve multiple Pendants by dropping them on the ground and repeating the steps below. Method #1: NOTE: If you chose to betray Lucien and help the Guardians at the end of the quest, follow this method. [*:2ypiv74t]Return to the Guardians within the temple and speak to them. They will give you another Pendant if you do not have one. Method #2: NOTE: If you chose to help Lucien and returned the staff back to him, follow this method. [*:2ypiv74t]Return to the Guardians within the temple and kill one of them. The Guardian will drop another Pendant if you do not have one.

Is your Gameplay on memory?
As a Microsoft Certified Programmer, here are the things I would think they would keep track of and stored in their database. Permanent User Information Your Runescape name. This is almost most likely used as the primary key linking to everything else in the database since each one is unique. Actually, a unique integer is probably assigned as well to identify you as it uses less memory. Your password and recovery questions and answers. For your security, this is most likely stored as a one way hash. This means even the workers at Jagex and programmers don't know what your password is and/or your recovery information. After you have entered your password, a series of mathematical equations are performed on the password/recovery answers that turns the data into a hexadecimal number. Every time you log in, the same equation is performed and then that number is compared to what is stored in the database. In another table is list of recent IP addresses that have been associated with the unique user name, or primary key. Obviously this is for security reasons and another way of tracking users as well as tracking users on multiple RuneScape characters at the same time. Another table in the database keeps track of your offense history and keeps track of any if any blackmarks/bans/mutes your character has or has had. Another table might even keep track of all queries you have sent in to Jagex and their replies. Security - Real World Trading and using Macros The first section was pretty straight forward and standard relational database information and the setup would most likely be similar to what I described. This section leaves a lot more to speculation. Flagged transactions. Keeping track of all transactions is possible, but due to constraints in server space and the possibility of duplicating transaction data, it would be ridiculous to set up and maintain. More likely they have in game code that flags suspicious trades and then that goes into a table where a stored procedure triggers the data to be sent to a staff member for review. As for spotting those who use macro programs to gain the upper hand, that is also a little more tricky. I would imagine that when RuneScape loads and you log in, it queries the operating system for a list of all running processes then compares those to processes that they have listed as being suspicious programs stored in another table. This query could happen frequently throughout your game time to ensure that no matter when it is started it can be caught. Of course this isn't foolproof either so it would most likely be flagged to a Jagex staff member for further analysis as well. Other's propose the idea that repetitive keystrokes, clicks, etc are logged which is completely feasible. This data combined with a list of running processes would help Jagex determine who is actually using a macro program and who isn't. As far as conversations you have, only if a report is made would anything be saved as well as being flagged and forwarded to a staff member. And concerning other personal details, the only things outlined above would be saved (I'm sure I could think of more but I think you get the idea).

-----Tokkul Collecting-----
It doesn't take ages, well for me it didn't. I camped down there and it took me around 7 hours of in game killing time to get enough drops + the "natural" tokkul drops to get enough to purchase a fury. I ended up with around 25-30k tokkul from the drops alone. That was hardcore killing though melee style, not leaving to bank often or talking it up with the locals. I had my own method, but for most of you, you will probably want to use guthans to heal so you don't have to stop killing. Good luck if you do this, and at least for me it did not take ages at all.

3 September 2007 - The Path of Glouphrie
Cool! Can anyone who has done the quest tell me what those three foes are? (I'm guessing a ranger, mager and meleer.) All three monsters are warped terrorbirds. They have a very fast ranged attack and a melee attack (the ranged attack hurts worse). You also need to use the chimes on them in order to be able to hurt them. It wasn't a very hard fight at all and if things are going badly just slap protect from range on and you will be fine.

The elusive crystal seed...
I believe you need to speak with Brimstall to get your seed back. If you remember from the first quest, he is the gnome in the Gnome Stronghold from the first quest (near the other machine). I say this because when I click the destroy option on my saw/seed, that is where it told me to go to retrieve a new one. If you have your crystal saw though, you need to use that. Use the crystal saw on the singing bowl in the area with the pushable stones to turn it back into a seed, then use it again to turn it into the chimes that you need. Hope that helps out some.

New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
If it is, then it won't be fixed until the next update at the earliest, though possibly not until much later. Incidentally, the meat shield tactic still works, though slightly differently; the other player can hit you if you're under attack by an NPC, but if another NPC (or player, I presume) hits them, it cancels their attack on you. In other words, if you're letting a Hobgoblin attack you, then a pker attacks you, it cancels the Hobgoblin's attack. This frees the Hobgoblin to attack the pker, which in turn cancels the pker's attack on you until the pker kills the Hobgoblin. So yeah, if it isn't a bug, then we still have a slightly less-effective but still-present meatshield tactic. If it is a bug, well, we'll just have to adjust our strategies for a short while until it's fixed. Either way, all is not lost. That's good to hear otherwise they might as well just remove the hobgoblin mines and the runite rocks further north all together, as they will become ghost towns (not as if either one of them are jam packed with miners as it is). As long as I can lure the Pker into getting attacked by a hobgoblin and breaking his/her attack on me I guess that's fine as that will give me the time to run south a few steps and glory out if needed. Of course, any mages or rangers deciding to just attack from a safe distance from being attacked will be able to attack you freely... You know, I always wanted to spend some more time in the Jatizso mines.

New Wilderness Update: Player > NPC in Single Area
OK what the hell. So you are saying when I go mine at the best mining location in the game (hobgoblin mines) I can no longer use the hobgoblins as meat shields? Granted this won't completely "ruin" my ability to use that area and the glory I carry will let me glory out and if that doesn't work my ring of life will kick in (granted if I run a tad south to level 30)... but... If it's single combat and I am engaged already in combat why would the game allow someone else to interfere and jump in and start attacking me? If this is true then I would have to think it is an unintentional outcome of something else they added into the coding as I can't see any reason why they would do this. Well I guess besides mining, I am going to just start getting my hides from the brutal green dragons. If there is an important resource basically only accessible from the wilderness, then there needs to be at least some sort of safeguard in place to at least allow for someone unarmed for player to player to attempt an escape. But, it's something new and brings another element into the game that wasn't there before so as much as I don't like the idea, I don't hate it either. Thanks for posting this here before I went out like normal thinking I was pretty safe using meat shields while I mined adamantite. I wasn't able to read page 3 of this post as I kept getting a MySql error everytime I tried to load the page so if there is something there that makes this post look ridiculous please ignore :) Edit: That's odd, before I posted it said there was a page 3, and after I posted i was taken to page three and I have the only post there. No wonder I was getting a MySql error :wall:

August 28 2007 - God Wars Dungeon
Oh indeed, I should have added that. If you sided with Lucien then I fear that there is no way to get the pendant that I know of. When you went back to speak to the guardians did you remove the pendant of lucien before you spoke with them? Who would have ever thought a silly pendant from ages ago would be so highly sought after after all this time!

August 28 2007 - God Wars Dungeon
Fear not for all is not lost if you happened to get rid of your Pendant of Armadyl like the majority of us. If you speak to the Armadyl guardians from the quest they will give you a new one, or the same one, whatever, that is taxing my brain. Either way you can get another one off of them :)

TzHaar Killing for Profit
Hey, spent around 7 hours game time give or take and managed to get enough maul, shield and cape drops to give me 260k for the onyx. That seems to be the average for what everyone is saying and it held true for me as well, no lies in this thread. If you have a fast method of killing Kets I would suggest just killing those and ignoring the rest. I happen to have one which involves prayer switching (turning prayer on right before it hits and off again a split second later). It really saves a lot of prayer and with 63 prayer I had 23 points left by the time I got all my drops. If you are getting a fast rate of kill then I would suggest just keeping your cape drops since they sell for the most there, but I do see how selling for mauls would in the end run net you more of a tokkul gain. Honestly I can't disagree with anything in this thread as it worked for me like a magic charm, even though you may walk out hours later hating that place. On a lucky streak my drop rates where technically earning me more then crafting natures per hour, and on a slow unlucky rate the average still kept me on par of above crafting nats for cash. Nice guide mate, I'm all with you.

~The Ultimate,How To Earn Tokkul Guide!~(11k+ Views!)
I meleed those Kets for a day and a half of my game time straight. I turned pray on before they hit and turned it off a split second after and repeated. I got enough cape, shield, and maul drops and ended up buying an onyx...which i happily got a crafter to trade me a fury for. 4 mil, not bad for a few hours worth of work that cost me next to nothing. I averaged about one drop every 40 minutes of killing (non stop, back to back and not pausing for food (since i needed none) and not stopping to talk). I support the killing of Kets as long as you have a method of killing them fast and not having to continually eat or run back to the bank (guthans, prayer switching, etc). Meaning a fast melee style as hallying them is slow as molasses. Even though I ended up hating being in that place, it is a very very decent way to make money if you can keep up a fast rate of kills against the kets. I haven't tried the xils yet to see if their drops drop any faster. I'd be interested in finding out.

does ring of wealth really work?
Are you also the type of person to NOT wear a seatbelt because you heard of the rare circumstances about a seat belt actually causing someone's death in a car accident? Even though wearing a seat belt greatly enhances your survival rate? Even if someone doesn't wear a ring of wealth they, believe it or not, can still get good drops. My advise, stick with the ring of wealth. Even if it doesn't affect defender drops (which apparently only the coders at Jagex knows for certainty), the rest of the drops you get will make you dare I say, wealthier in the long run, as eloquently stated earlier.

Age Oriented Worlds?
The Falador Orgy room used to be in Seers Village. Just a little Runescape history there... Seriously, this is a good argument and I had something very constructive and well thought out ready to type but when I read "Fally Orgy room" it all went to hell

The Ethics of Advertising in Game?
That is the most preposterous idea ever... in game ads within the Runescape world. Bah! *laces up his Nike Rune Jordan's before going to Barrows* Bah... preposterous! Edit: Upon reflection, I probably shouldn't be giving Jagex ideas...

Rule 15: Odd One Out?
As long as Runescape remains as popular as it is, companies will continue fighting to get an ad placed on the site somewhere. The site is a haven for the young and impulsive who will click on something because it looks "cool". Truth is though, ad blocking software is just buying us time. If (and most likely when) the ad is served from the same domain as the hosting web page and avoided common naming conventions that indicates it IS an ad, then current ad blocking software would fail to block it. This would however force the companies wishing to advertise to deliver the content directly to each web site and have all the ads stored locally. If and when this becomes the norm, smaller web sites that are completely supported by ad supported content would die off because of the logistics involved, but large sites such as Runescape would suffer little if any impact. As it is now though and as it's been stated earlier, this rule is there solely to appease the advertisers and the only impact it has on us gamers is the intimidation factor. This brings up the next question. Is it even enforcable? Technically, yes it could be possible from a programmatic standpoint, though not entirely reliable. If you use IE, then there is a setting you can change under security named "allow scripting of java applets". If you check this box, this means the java applet can communicate back to the web page it was hosted from. I am sure with a little scripting finesse a method could be scripted to check to see if the ads have loaded. This won't ever happen though. The default setting is to have this checkbox unchecked. I know many people use Firefox, but those who use the windows client still end up using Internet Explorer and any setting that is changed in IE will be reflected within the client. Continue blocking the ads if you wish (I am not supporting you do or you don't), but do so quietly and don't do this with a J̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬ÃâMod standing behind you watching you play. As for me, they have never bothered me at my home computer. I pay for members so I rarely have to suffer, but I can feel the pain. My work computer can hardly load Runescape on a free world and have it in a playable state. Anyways, this post is getting too long so I'll leave it at that :P

Is Making a pure a sign of boredness?
A month ago I became completely bored with the entire idea of Runescape. Then one night while I was laying down falling asleep, an idea hit me  I could expand the entertainment I received from this game by creating a so called "pure" account and walking around with my head high because naturally, I am the dominate species of 'Scape. Little did I realize that it only meant that I was so easily controlled by teenage boys. I have watched on YouTube so many people running around the wilderness using an ice spell on people then using a sweet dagger killing them. This was what I was destined to do! I tried this myself to be cool and fit in, but soon realized that when I tried this in person, I got completely owned. After asking why, they laughed and told me to get defense and prayer up so I could use piety or chivalry, then called me a pure noob. I have therefore deleted all my accounts upon realization that conforming to the ideas of idiots does not mean I am cool, but only makes me all the more easily controlled and dominated by young children. I shall embrace my meager "standard" main account and never stray from the normal again just to fit in.

RuneScapes best item?
Hohto - ̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâùWhat is luck to you then Hohto? Luck is only a certain set of events or circumstances that will either work for or against somebody, plain and simply. It is not divine intervention or the hand of a god...only how things unfold. If by some small chance you would get killed while fishing with your phat on, sure you have yourself to blame but again, the events leading up to your death would be defined as your luck even though you were in complete control. As that unlikely situation unfolds, a woman named Stacy who lives halfway across the world happens to be working outside and decides to go inside and log into RuneScape to see if her friend is online yet. To her surprise she sees your phat on the ground and has no clue how it got there. That decision on her end created her own good fortune. I agree and disagree with your comment though about using luck as an easy way out. I was killing Steel and Iron dragons nonstop since the Draconic Visage update and the only reason I stopped was that Barbarian Training was introduced into the game and my attention was turned there instead, and I started killing Brutal Green Dragons to help with the drop list. During that time at the metals I only got one high level item drop which was a dragon skirt. Now am I running around saying the reason is I just had bad luck? Of course not, but in this situation the outcome of the events did not favor me and by definition I had bad luck. I DO agree with you though if somebody were to go kill 20 dragons and give up on that one fact alone (believing that they had bad luck). To me if you are going to give up on something because you think your luck is bad, then you were going to quit in the first place and just looking for an excuse which doesn't make you look bad. "Why should I sit here wasting my time when I will just have bad luck" Very lazy indeed. Speaking of lazy... Taken straight from Merriam-Webster...an item is: an object of attention, concern, or interest By definition of the word luck(̢̮â¬Å¡ÃâöÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâù), I think we can conclude that it is an object of attention and interest. Before trying to be witty, make sure that you yourself first "come to terms with the mind bending concept" of what something is. Next time you post simply to get your post count up, take the extra five minutes involved to at least tell me WHY you don't think luck is an item. Thanks on the point of view Hohto - it gave me something interesting to read this morning. To conclude I think we both agree that luck is not a force that plays a role in what you get or don't get, but quite simply only the events leading up to that point. Oh, how could anybody here forget the little things like you being one of the first to obtain a dark bow...you remind us daily

RuneScapes best item?
Sometimes what is best is not always so easily tangible. Out of four pages, I am surprised that "luck" has not been brought up once. Luck determines if you happen to be behind that sorry fellow (lets call him hohto), while he is frantically running to the bank because he accidently attacked a poison scorpion (at low health of course), while carrying a christmas cracker he was going to go trade a friend. Of course he doesn't make it and you come out the richer. L U C K

I bet you never knew... ~\500+ facts collected/~
On the advise of my lawyer, the following "did you know" is entirely fictional and is just my creative interpretation on how things might have happened. Did you know that if you have/had a knife and logs in your inventory to cut into unstrung bows, that if you [censored by the man], you still got the experience for cutting the log into an unstrung bow, but yet the log still remained in your inventory? My lawyer says the following "what if" scenario is fine to talk about, considering that if it was true, the correct paperwork would have been filed to Jagex informing them of this situation months ago and it would be HIGHLY unwise to try repeat, and in the long run it would have been incredibly difficult to use to your advantage because the timing had to be just right. My lawyer said that there had been a lot worse bugs then this in the game that luckily no one got a hold of on a large scale. And that Gertrude's cat, when spoken to, will tell you that he is out looking for some tail?
-
Fastest Fishing XP
Actually not true. The leaping salmon and trout give the same experience as the non leaping variety. Then you also can catch leaping sturgeon which gives more experience then the trout and salmon. You also get agility experience as well, not only strength.

Increased random activity
Yeah apparently we are all just not fit enough for him i have had him 4 times today on top of the others i have had. Randoms will not stop stop people using programs to automate what they do, programs can learn. They need to get proactive in actively scanning for these programs running alongside the runescape executable and proactively ban on that. I used to like randoms. I hate them now. I can hate, it's my right. I am a random bigot from this day on.
