Not all rares -- I've collected ten santas over the last few weeks.

Ring of wealth "Rare" List
If Jagex has learned anything, they know they are better off not specifically saying how it works. Nobody thought you could abuse the PvP system, so Jagex told people how EP and drops are determined. Look where that ended up. Listing exactly how a ROW works, is like giving us the formula to Barrows. Eventually someone is going to find a way to abuse it. The difference is that in pvp, you can get a friend to help you game the system, but it's harder to get an npc to cooperate with your plan. If Jagex told us how the ring works, people would use it when it makes sense, and they wouldn't wear it when it doesn't make sense. Not sure how to characterize that as abuse. I suppose that you might see an increase in activity at monsters where the ring really makes sense, but, again, I don't think that would be abuse. My guess is that Jagex simply would prefer that there be some mystery to the drop system. After all, we're supposed to willingly imagine that these monsters that we're "killing" are actually carrying and dropping these items. The more we consciously know about the mathetmatics behind the drops, the harder it is to willingly suspend our disbelief.

7/28/2009? unannounced PVP changes
That makes no sense, no one really likes losing money on their items. You don't lose money unless you sell. That's the point. If you're buying to keep and use, price fluctuations don't matter.

7/28/2009? unannounced PVP changes
That's simple then. Buy what you want for your minigames and don't worry about what you can sell them for. If you use them, you don't want to sell them anyway. Only merchants should care about prices going up and down. Edit: Sorry for not reading entire thread -- I see someone already has made this point.

Even under ideal circumstances, rare and useful items can be hard to buy. Btw, I noticed green mask dropped some. Does that mean buyout is over and the dump has started?

Poor treasure trail rewards.
I also would like to see clues be more rare with better rewards. I almost always do mine, but they're so frequent that there's no adventure to it. I have everything memorized. I zip through them rather quickly because I remember everything, and the rewards frequently are pretty lame. Last one I did (yesterday) was ok though: sara dhide body, guthix vams, full rune helm, rune legs and black dhide legs -- about 1M altogether.

Could people be looking ahead to halloween already?

Rares are for everyone. It's the untradeable holiday items that are not for everyone.

You should sell them -- NOW!

Just wait for the inevitable dump.

I've been buying and selling them for a couple weeks now, making 1-2M on each flip. I've probably only made about 15m total, but that's not bad considering it's all afk. If you're not too greedy, you can easily make money on the GE just flipping stuff. I have a buy offer in right now, so I recommend that you sell!

21st July 2009 - The Curse of Arrav (and Patch Notes)
I've thought about this from time to time, and I think that the answer is "nothing." First, players' ability to ferret things out never ceases to amaze me. Second, and more importantly, I don't think that Jagex would allow content to go unnoticed forever. They'd leak it or give a hint or something if they had to. If they went to the trouble to put it in, they'd make sure someone noticed it eventually.

Wouldn't arma be better and cheaper? Edit: Soz, I see this point already made.

Btw, third age full helms have not crashed hard. It seems they have found a fairly stable price. They're both buyable and sellable in the GE.

Just something to be aware of
I've long interpreted what these guys do as against the rules, whether they're auto typing or not. I report them frequently. In fact, I keep getting the "you just reported someone less than 30 seconds ago -- don't abuse the system" message. There are so many at the GE in the crowded worlds that it's a big job to report them all. Perhaps a Tip It Group event? Hop from world to world reporting the spammers. This would assure multiple reports for each spammer and maybe help to get more of them banned? (Btw, I've seen a few people spamming with pretty decent stats, so getting banned might be a big deal for some of these guys.)

Don't worry -- they'll dip again eventually. But if you want one to keep, you might as well go ahead and buy it -- you won't be sorry in the long run.

Merchanting mistake or score?
Put them back in immediately for max. Back in the day, I made millions buying guthans skirts at min and selling them at max. Of course, I was able to buy scores at a time then -- the GE doesn't seem to let me do that anymore.

Will nerfing 26king really stop the inflation?
Only an idiot would stockpile cash obtained by tricking while waiting for Jagex to nerf it. (Of course, most of the trickers I know aren't exactly on the road to being rocket scientists.) First, as others have pointed out, fixing the 26k problem will not reverse inflation. The money that has been brought into the game will still be in the game. I doubt Jagex will even try to reverse the inflation that is now taking place. They'd probably end up doing more harm than good if they did. But even if nerfing 26k would start a deflationary cycle, it still wouldn't make sense to stockpile cash now, while inflation is going through the roof. It would be much better to invest in items during the inflationary period, then dump them upon the nerf, taking advantage of both the inflation and the deflation. I'm dealing with this runaway inflation by avoiding cash -- I try to keep less than 10M in cash at all times. If I get much more than that, I buy something. Cash piles should be avoided until the inflation stops.

Nerfing the 26k trick.
What will it be worth? . . . Quit whining about it, and just let Jagex do there job. Find other ways to make money. The earlier poster was suggesting that he wanted the trick to stay around long enough for him to regain some lost ground (at least that's the way I read it). My point was that merely "getting back his 150M" won't get him back to where he was before because 150M isn't worth what it was before. It was a simple point, really. He'll need some larger number to be back where he was when he had 150M before, and that number that he'll need gets larger every day. Imagine the guy who logged off six months ago thinking that he was rich and logs on now to find that he is poor. There isn't really any arguing with this point. I assume your real objection is to my language: "lazy newb whose been tricking." Since you're a self-proclaimed dedicated tricker, I imagine that you were offended. First, I should apologize -- the word "newb" does look a bit like name-calling now that I look at it. Second, I can't take full responsibility -- I really was alluding to the earlier poster's self-characterization: He said that tricking had made him a "lazy" player. Finally, you have to take some responsibility, too. By the way you're choosing to play the game, you're voluntarily placing yourself in a category despised by many players. You're the new equivalent of what we used to call "PC Products." That's the identity you've chosen. Don't hate me for tellling you so.

the best and the worse mini game
Best: Maybe temple trekking -- nice variety and unique rewards. (I like FOG, too.) Worst: Trouble brewing -- good luck finding someone to play this.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
Maybe, but it's not very successful if it is -- I've been able to buy the helms at min (from time to time) over the last few days. When merchers buy something out, it's impossible to get at min. My sales above mid could be a few rogue merchers trying (unsuccessfully) to buy them out, but I doubt it. If it is, they're the world's worst merchers.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
Well, I did just get a 3A full helm at min. I'd call the price stabilized -- over the last few days, I've been able to buy (with some waiting) at min and sell (with some waiting) above mid. Not surprisingly, there is some demand out there for this good armour, especially with all of the money coming into the game -- the nouveau riche 26k-tricking newbs are especially anxious to buy it.
-
Nerfing the 26k trick.
But, of course, by the time you get your "150mil back," it won't be worth 150mil anymore because you're not the only lazy newb whose been tricking.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
The "collapse" of 3rd age melee was short-lived -- it's no longer possible to buy helm at min, and I've had no trouble selling at mid.
