I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro and find it fantastic for all my editing needs. Its sort of around a 7.5-8 in difficulty. The interface is also a little clunky at times but it doesn't really bother me. I'm not so sure about Elements but it should come with a decent array of abilities too. Many however recommend Sony Vegas for beginning film makers. So you may want to go with that as a starter program. Just be sure that whichever you go with, you research the student pricing discounts! They take a huge chunk of the cost away...

The contest is now...CLOSED! Can't wait to see them throw together the shortlist. Oh and this made me giggle: Spending a weekend watching 30 second RuneScape machinima shorts...ouch :lol:!

What...ALREADY? You heard correct, I've already speeded through 93 and achieved level 94 smithing! I am actually down to the magical final five levels. Its just too awesome to wrap my head around. I have even amassed over 80k sparkly gold bars...Holy Guacamole :shock:! I'm determined to get my hands around 99 but I must take it one step at a time. Victory will soon be mine... I'm beginning to wonder if my pickaxe is merely a mining tool or another limb...?

Finally! I got my rear in gear and achieved level 93 smithing! With this level brings the ability to smith noobish rune square shields :D! The levels are just ticking away like the hands on the clock and I'm feeling my goal falling within my grasp. My gold bar stack has risen to 66k bars...its just staggering to me O.O. Still haven't tired of gathering my gold just yet...someone convince me otherwise heh!!! I finally bit the bullet and made an entry for the machinima contest. It came to me as I was strolling through Varrock just like any other dayand a particular gypsy/psychics booth caught my eye. I have no dreams of grandeur or making it to the finales but if I do happen to make itI sadly would not be able to accept a trip to Jagex (got enough real life matters on my plate as it is :( ). Lifetime membership wouldnt hurt thoughhe he he! And yesI promise this is the last machinima blog entry youll see for this month!

Lately it seems my blog is molding into an RS machinima blog heh. In a funny way it causes me to update the blog more often in-between my smithing level ups :P! I probably will not have as active a machinima month as this past one but will most likely post more of my machima work here in the future. Many have asked me if Im going to enter the machinima contest but Im on the fence about it. I dont like to make videos for the heck of it and commit to ideas at 3 am in the morning sometimes. If I have the burning desire to make an entry, I will do so. For now, Ill stick with other projects I have in mind. I got a lot of YouTube private messages recently asking about different effects and such that I do in my films. One topic that came up quite a bit was greenscreening. While pointing to other tutorials is easy enough, they often lack some helpful personal advice. I was also stunned to see that free methods for achieving the effect have not been covered at all! To remedy this, I decided to put together another machinima tutorial about how to achieve this effect. In other machinima news, I released an official Tip.it forum guide to the Orb of Oculus machinima tool. You can read the guide here. As far as smithing, I am nearing 93 but havent had much time to visit the Living Rock Caverns lately. Ill head back down soon hopefully so I can get a few more loads of gold to smelt. I love how my stack of bars is just getting bigger and bigger ^_^!

Hmmm I think the best way to put this is if it is a success as a finished product or as a functioning prototype. As a finished product it certainly is no where near the status of "success." The jerkiness of both the Aim/Focus modes eliminate this item from being practical for live action shots. The lack of a chatbox means the user has to resort to outside chat programs to direct their actors rather than simply typing in RS chat. Lastly, it doesn't do too well with hills and ditches as it seems to tilt the camera to the ground. However, if we look at this as a functioning prototype, its more than we could have ever dreamed of <3:! Ripping away the game's default interface opens up a greater viewing area for those using the fixed window. Its also quite lovely not having to run around a subject to position it in a certain way to achieve a closeup. I still think this item is in the beta stages and that Jagex will attempt to push its potential to the next level.

Despite the orb controls being slightly clunky, its amazing the kind of shots you can get! With a little bit of fine tuning it can shape up to be an amazing machinima tool :D!

Introduction The Orb of Oculus is a mystical tool imbued with the power of seeing beyond what the game camera typically can. In other words, the orb allows greater control of the game's built in camera by allowing you to create custom angles and even zoom in on your subject! It is no simple tool however and can take some time getting use to. This guide will teach you how to use it to its fullest potential and achieve shots you never dreamed of! To obtain the Orb of Oculus visit Faruq's Tools for Games stall in Al Kharid for 20 gp. [uSE] 2. Interface & Use Interface 1. Compass - This indicates what direction and orientation your camera is facing. Pay close attention to this as it correlates to the Cardinal Keys. 2. Cardinal Keys - Allows you to move the camera to the North (W), South (S), East (A), and West (D). It is important to pay attention to your Compass when adjusting your orientation. 3. Up/Down Keys - Allows you to move the camera Up (Q) and Down (E). It is not dependant on your compass orientation. 4. Rotate View - Allows you to rotate your view to the left (left arrow key), the right (right arrow key), up (up arrow key), and down (down arrow key). 5. Chatbox Toggle - This hides/reveals the in-game chatbox with the F2 key. 8. Help Toggle - This hides/reveals the Help menu and compass on your screen with the Space key. Use To use the orb equip it under your weapon slot. Right click on it and choose the "Gaze-into" option. While viewing through the orb you will NOT be able to do the following: Move your character. Eat or use any item. Teleport or use any form of magic. Once you are in the orb viewing interface you will have the option of viewing through two modes called Aim Mode and Focus Mode. I will go into more detail about these modes in the next section. [MODE] 3. Aim/Focus Mode Aim Mode In this mode you can move the camera around a large viewing area without it being locked on your location. This is useful for shots that may involve actions happening in the next room or at a greater distance away. While in this mode the W (North), S (South), A (East), D (West) keys on your keyboard will move the camera based on their cardinal compass directions. If at any time you use the rotate view keys to rotate your camera view, your compass will rotate along with it. This means that while your compass is tilted East pressing the W (North) key will push the camera to the left rather than forward. Helpful tips regarding how to easily remember these directions can be found in the [TIPS] Tips & Tricks section. The other keys that can be used in this mode are the Q (Up) and E (Down). Recording/Editing Software Many of you out there may be wondering what are good programs out there to record your orb footage. There is one particular freeware as well as one paid for program that are excellent for doing so! As far as software to edit with, there is also some decent freeware and paid for programs that are quite powerful and easy to use! Below I will list them: Recording Software CamStudio CamStudio is a great freeware screen recorder that places absolutely no watermark on your video and is open source. It is incredibly simple to use and may make a great starting screen recorder to use. If you are confused as to what codec or framerates you should use, feel free to watch my YouTube guide to using CamStudio. You can download CamStudio here. Camtasia Camtasia is considered one of the best screen recorders available for purchase. It has several advanced controls in which you can use to encode your video or save as another format. It also comes with a light-weight editor that is decent for editing footage on the spot. Refer to my YouTube guide if you are interested in what values to adjust your frames rates/codecs too (most likely you should stick with the default TechSmith codec). You can download Camtasia here. Editing Software Windows Movie Maker/Apple iMovie These are the default programs that come with your edition of Windows or Mac (if you are on Windows 7 it is part of the downloadable Windows Live Essentials). Both programs come packed with several decent effects, titles, and transitions that are very good for the beginning film maker. The programs may also produce smaller movie files than some of the more professional editing software. Adobe Premiere Elements/Premiere Pro The Adobe movie editing programs are in the level of more intermediate to professional level editing software. These are not recommended for beginning film makers as they take quite some time to learn to use effectively. For advanced film makers however, they are capable of amazing effects and endless possibilities. The Elements version is significantly cheaper than the Pro version but sacrifices some of the more advanced interfaces. The Pro version is incredibly pricey but comes packed with the whole kit and caboodle! The major requirement for that position is to have suitable experience with intermediate image editing :). Photoshop comes into play because several of our maps on the site are constructed using PSD layers. However, if you do not own Photoshop, please do not let that deter you! We would appreciate to see any applications that have such useful skill sets!

Hello dear blog readers! What can I say? Im on cloud nine! Not only am I nearing 93 smithing but several other delights just happened to walk by my way. Those of you who read my last entry may remember I posted a video on my musings regarding the strange power. I was more than happy with the few hundred views it got and ran off down to the caverns to get back to mining up some gold for smelting. A few friends who saw the vid pmed me and encouraged me to tweet it to Jagex. I didnt think much of it but went ahead and tweeted this ominous phrase to them: A day or so went by and I laughed at some of the comments, chatted with friends, and gave my cat her twice hourly massages. Before heading to bed I read up on the Orb of Oculus oncemore and dreamed of future videos with amazing camera angles and close-ups. I woke up the next morning and continued about my normal routine. Morning slipped into afternoon and I rolled by some of the chats I normally visit. Immediately I was informed that the crazy folks at JagexACTUALLY RETWEETED MY TWEET! I was flabbergasted! Immediately I opened up a tab and loaded YouTubemy eyes literally widen to see the damage O.O. While Im certainly no Excl of videomakers nor do I expect any sort of mass stardom to ever happen to meits nice to even have over 5 people interested in the videos that I make XD! One thing that I must say though, is how much you people out there really rock. Any endeavor Ive taken regarding RuneScape has always been so well received. I never expected 2.5 years ago when I signed up to play this game that Id be making so many friends along the way! While my MMO repertoire is a small oneout of the few that Ive tried, I can certainly say RS has the nicest community out of all of them.
