I don't get why you've used a pixel art linework for this. looks great anyway, colours seem a bit too vibrant, maybe its this monitor. I think it'd help adding extra lighter shades to add highlights and increase depth.

this is so weird, I jst so happened to check this thread after not being on this forum in over a week :shock: and ive been 'called'.. apparently. well yea I think more useful crits would surfice, telling to improve on linework, colouring and anatomy is too vague to do any help. How exactly could he improve?? I don't get internet back until the 20th back where I live so I can't really give a full critique.. But I can say; Your character is too symetrical, as rik mentioned it's never a good idea to draw someone from the front unless its for learning purposes, I do think it worth learning basic anatomy, get yourself more familiar with general proportions.. No one's expecting you to be a proffesional but as long as you make the effort to be observant to people around you. With your shading Its essential that your shading adds the correct level of depth, atm this is just telling us that the light is coming from the right.. but the actual character just seems too flat. Again look at people around you and see how light effects em. I do think this is a very cute character, keep it up and take things bit by bit.. Dont expect yourself to be a professional, the quality of your work usually effects the level of effort.

well im doing graphic design its all about the idea and layout, I wanted this crited as a whole not just the image of myself. I've been through reems and reems of layout suggestions and interpreted ideas. The arrow for example is symbolising my first idea derived on the quote; 'Life can only be understood backwards, but life must be lived forwards' instead of having a quote messing up the poster I decided to add in an arrow to suit the clean cartoony style. thx for the comments guys, yes I do think I could change the logo in some way, im already going through that process because our challenge is to re-brand it, I hope I thought of something original. I straightened my hair yesterday =) not sure how long it is but it looks slightly longer than in this picture now.

oh god no don't alais this, work on the quality of your arwork before you get too concerned with AAing. It's too big of a piece to start learning, if you want to learn AAing start small, learn the basics.. I don't know who told you guys that AAing and dithering is a necissity.. :-k honestly, don't worry about it until you find yourself thinking, 'what more can I do to improve my pixel art?'.

Shin gets my vote, but they're all great.

ahem.. erm, dithering isn't a necessity, it's a technique to make the transition between two shades/colours smoother. So if it's technically not needed all your doing is adding an unwanted texture.. As a pixel artist your supposed to judge what your doing as you go, not simply assume that everything has to be dithered because seriously, a lot of the time it makes it look much worse. You've got off to a great start, just keep things simple and work on developing your knowledge on correct colouring, shading and proportions. Take it one step at a time if your still new, don't be expected to produce a masterpiece.

oh well it sorta is but, pixel art is supposed to be a digital art form where each pixel is purposely placed, anywho it don't really matter. im just being a technical dork.

if your on photoshop go to save for web, you can toggle the quality and filesize.

technically not a pixel sig but I likes it :D (its more of a paint sketch)

well I've worked with flash a lot in the past but haven't spent so much time on one image, ive always bin too concerned about getting the animation correct. this was done in illustrator. yeah I need to atempt shading hair at some point, its a pet hate and probably signifcantly improve my work if I bit the bullet and had a go. thx. oh and man do I love vector, I have no resolution problems atall \ :thumbsup:

Im no expert at vector but I gave it my best shot, eyeballed from a photo I took of myself. took like 4 hours getting it right, at first it looked nothin like me. its for a project where we have to create a Point of sale, a poster and some stickers for a brand of our choice. +Pixel version wip

I love these, how much was your wacom tablet gs? Ive got a job now and im finding using just a mouse very limited.

at the minute im finding working out clears my mind, any anger or sadness you have can be focused into pushing yourself and it really opens your eyes about everything, Ive been kiddin myself the last few weeks and im finally starting to think clearly. Im also really in the mood to be creative, keep a close eye on the Gallery some time this week or next. thanks ThoseTheBrokes, you mentioned getting angry makes you feel relaxed. I think thats true when you control that anger into something constructive.

I live in the UK btw, Uni tends to starts for 18 year olds.

I'll be 28.. Following recent events Im really not sure what I want to do any more, my careers not on my mind atm though in the past I've really considered my options. And either an animator or an illustrator or some kind would be great as long as im happy. Im considering teaching, but not at a highschool, more like a lecturer or something. I'd love to have a traditional marriage, to find someone I honestly really love. And hopefully have a kid or two. My dream would be a father who is there for his children no matter what, I wouldn't say my father was ever there for me. I want to move to either London or America.
