  1. With all the discussion about how we "need to remove the gathering skills" from the assist system since they "serve no point" you guys are forgetting to consider this from the perspective of someone out in the wilds (not the wildy) of RS. In a training area, I agree, they are useless (and possibly even annoying, if you have a lot of beggars around), but elsewhere they can be beneficial like so: Example 1: Someone decided to take a swing through Brimhaven dungeon, but didn't know that the route they were taking had a woodcutting requirement higher than their level. Without resource assistance, they would have to take a detour, since players cannot cut the vines for each other. However, if someone else with the needed woodcutting level was nearby, they could assist the person and let them through. Example 2: A player is out in the middle of nowhere doing a quest. They need some logs from a magic tree, one of which is conveniently located nearby. They also have their dragon axe with them, since they knew they would have to do some woodcutting, but do not yet have the level for mages. Luckily there is a stranger with a woodcutting cape nearby, but he didn't bring an axe since he's only passing through. With resource assistance, the situation is easily resolved since the 99 woodcutter can simply assist the quester in getting the logs. However, if the assist system didn't support resource skills the quester would have to make a lengthy detour, or risk losing his dragon axe (even though a level 99 woodcutter can probably be trusted, there's no guarantee, and lag can strike anytime). Back on the intended main point of this topic, I agree that the xp should go to the assister at anytime they are providing a benefit that the other person could not obtain otherwise. Hopefully this is a bug, and Jagex will fix it soon.
  2. I'm self-sufficient, but only in the skills that I can supply by training other skills effectively. For example, I only train cooking with fish I catch myself, since I can train fishing reasonably well while gathering supplies; however, I usually buy the supplies for skills like crafting and construction, since collecting their materials has a higher opportunity cost than the money spent. The only real exception to this is prayer, which I will not buy xp in for personal reasons.
  3. I would definitely say that overall, the DDS is better as regards its special. 1: The Dragon Halberd special is worthless compared to the DDS special on small monsters. This restricts its (effective) use to a relatively small range of creatures. 2: The fact that the DDS has four specials per bar compared to the Dragon Halberd's three makes it better for general battling purposes. The max damage inflicted by both sets of attacks is roughly the same (on large monsters), but unless the target has a very high defense, splitting the hits up increases the likelyhood that more damage will be done in total. 3: All of the DDS specs can be used in the same time it takes to use just two of the Dragon Halberd specs, so you will hit the same damage in a shorter time and be able to swap to your primary weapon faster. 4: Since the time between attacks is counted to start after the hit of a weapon, using a Dragon Halberd and then changing to a primary weapon wastes an extra combat round. A DDS doesn't have this problem, since there isn't another melee weapon faster than it anyhow. 5: The DDS can be poisoned if you want, or you can use a normal Dragon Dagger instead. With a Dragon Halberd you don't have this option. 6: The DDS has several other advantages over the Dragon Halberd, such as being lighter, significantly cheaper, needing less wait time for additional specials, and not dequipping your shield when used.
  4. As regarding the discussion this can generate, however, I disagree with you on two points. First of all, while a lot of the recent quests do contain a fair number of puns, a good many do not. Secondly, the puns are neither "ruining the quests" nor "predictable and lame", unless you approach them from the stance that they will be obnoxious and terrible. Many of them are unexpected and reasonably clever, and none are so terrible as to ought cause you the great psychological discomfiture you claim. As long as you approach them from a fairly unbiased initial viewpoint, you can enjoy them, and even hunger and thirst for more (well, maybe not that far . . .). P.S. Contrary to your implication, the "need a hand" pun is only used once or twice in A Hand In The Sand (I forget the exact number of times). P.P.S. To foot the bill means to provide the means for something, so when the gnome says "Rest in pieces." your character's response means he can't since you never found the other foot, and so Clarance can't fully rest in pieces.
  5. I'm not sure exactly what they mean by the 10% boost to accuracy and power, but I do know that most people agree that this armor is worth getting. At higher ranged levels it is said to improve the damage rate significantly.
  6. Even without a guide the recent "master" quests are really easy (I should know, I have a QP cape and haven't used a quest guide in over two years). They certainly have been more entertaining to do than some of the previous ones, but the challenge is definitely gone. The part of Back To My Roots that took me the longest was finding the entrance to the maze; somehow, that just doesn't seem right for a "master" quest.
  7. Actually, it's "Hydrogen hydroxide" (The scientific name)Actually actually, there are tons of scientific names for water, of which dihydrogen monoxide and hydrogen hydroxide are both examples. Water has so many properties that it can be classified in something like a dozen areas. To de "spam" ifize this post, the examine for the Witchwood Icon is "A stick on a string . . . pure style.".
  8. I like this thread idea :) . I know some pretty good tips, but I can't remember them all right now, so for the moment here're a couple in the same vein (pun sort of not intended) as your second example. 1: When mining a given ore, always wear the Varrock armor that lets you mine double of it at once. When the effect activates you get the full xp for both ores, but you spend the same amount of time mining as for one. The effect usually activates twice a trip (in my experience anyhow), which can reduce the time you spend mining by anywhere from 5% to 10% depending on what you're mining. This translates to huge time savings in the long run - I'm currently in the process of mining ~7k ore, and this effect will shorten the time it takes by over two hours. 2: If you've unlocked access to the fairy ring network and gotten to the Fisher King's Realm in the Holy Grail quest, the most efficient way to mine gold is to use the giant G in the far northwest of Karamja. Take the fairy ring from Zanaris to the code B J R, and grab a magic whistle from the table in the castle to the southwest if you don't already have one. Blow the whistle and run about 10 squares to the giant G, mine to your heart's content, and then run back to the tower and blow the whistle again. You'll appear in the Fisher King's Realm to the southeast of the fairy ring; run north to it, hop to Zanaris, bank, and repeat. . . . Wow, that was longer than anticipated. Kind of ironic that those time-saving tips take so long to explain :P . P.S. @pokexpert - the item limit per stack is 2^31-1, or 2,147,483,647.
  9. Actually, that's part of the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest if I remember correctly. You have to give it to the son Tinsay as one of his snacks. My useless fact is: Tinsay has about the most disgusting taste for food I've seen.
  10. I can't crop atm (my mouse is broken), so I've got a ton of blank space, and as such decided to post a thumbnail. If you need the actual picture on the thread please tell me. Also, I'm not sure about that part involving the E-mail - do you have to send it if you post the picture on this thread, and if you do how do you send the picture info (is it the image code, an attatchment, etc.). Again, please tell me if I need to do anything with it. Thanks greatly :) . P.S. Feel free to use either my forum name or RSN - it doesn't matter too much which :P .
  11. Yea, I've been having the same lag, and for me it usually ends up kicking me out of the game as well. It's really annoying - I got it during Tears Of Guthix, so I only got 3k xp :x . Fortunately, it only seems to occur on certain worlds.
  12. I personally don't hate any randoms. The only reason I ever even dislike getting them is if they come at an annoying time, like a teleport one just after I've finished getting a monster unagressive; fortunately, this is really rare for me. However, I have read a story about one person who now has a pathological hatred of Molly, since she teleported him right as he got a visage drop.
  13. It's possible to do MEP2 with 61 agility, but when I tried it at 65 I got so frustrated with the handholds of despair that I went and got the extra 5 levels. The difficulty drops off steeply by 70 agility, so it's worth the little bit of extra effort beforehand. As for the original question, here is how I would rank the quests from easy to hard: Mep 1 (very easy, no real challenges involved) Contact! (fairly easy; be sure to bring a tinderbox with you as well as your light source, since the shadow mages can put out your light) Lunar Diplomacy (easy, but somewhat long) Mep 2 (easy with a guide, but fairly long, and the shadows in the temple can be dangerous over the time needed to solve all six puzzles) Dream Mentor (the fight is somewhat challenging)
  14. Combat Level: 111 Total Level: 1797 Highest Skill Level: 92 Woodcutting/Fletching Highest Combat Skill Level: 90 Strength Game Knowledge: ~12 And a couple extras. Lowest Skill Level: 65 Runecrafting Lowest Combat Skill Level: 81 Prayer Favorite Skill Accomplishment: 81 prayer (currently 2.3m xp and counting) without ever buying bones/xp, or agility as my first level 70+ stat
  15. I think the reason many people dislike them is that PC could be used to get massively unbalanced stats impossible with normal combat, which gives them an advantage over characters that were not made using those methods. I personally I don't have a problem with them - I just think they're not using the smartest means of training available (slayer is way better IMO). I do agree that PC could have been considered "cheap" in some sense (you could get double the XP per hour with it as opposed to "normal" combat) but with the advent of the improved PC this is not much of an issue anymore.
  16. There is no hotkey for the logout screen - apparently Jagex is trying to trap us into playing perpetually :P . As teh langzor originally stated, escape is the inventory screen, not the logout menu.
  17. Add me to the list as well. I currently have a total of 1794 without a single 99. EDIT: Now 1795.
  18. Actually, this is a good idea. I could see it as a convenient way reach a couple of out-of-the-way places faster than we now can, and it'd give f2p the closest they'd have to a Draynor teleport. Of course, the portals to each place would have to be distinguishable from each other . . . P.S., this should be in the Bugs And Suggestions Forum
  19. Can't try it right now, but, what exactly it does to improve your alching?F6 is the hotkey for the magic menu, so if you mess up you can hop back to the spellbook without moving your mouse. It saves a bit of time, but more importantly it's much less annoying to do  . My trick is: ALWAYS USE MOUSEKEYS for periods of extended/rapid clicking. It's much easier on your hands than clicking the mouse is, and a lot faster as well :) .
  20. Here are some corrections for the jade vine minigame guide. [*:28lehj75]The time it takes for the vine to grow from a seed to the "check health" state is under 15 hours. I usually kill and replant my vine at about 10:00-10:30 PM, and check its health when I get back from school as early as 1:30 PM the next day. Thus far it has always grown up in that time. [*:28lehj75]The time it takes for the vine to enter the "wild" state is under seven hours. By the time I check it in the evening, it has always become wild, even if I checked its health as late as 3:30-4:00 PM earlier. [*:28lehj75]The paragraph about the farmer payment should be made more clear in the regard that paying is optional; as is paying sounds almost mandatory, and it definitely is not. So far I have grown the vine daily since the quest was released, and I have never had the vine die even though I've never paid Horacio. [*:28lehj75]It'd be a good idea to mention that if you don't want slayer xp but want to get the check health xp again, you can ask Horacio to remove the vine for you and give you another seed. After he does you can replant the vine and grow it as normal. [*:28lehj75]Noting that you prune the vine by using the secateurs on it would be a good idea. Sorry, but that is simply incorrect. The amount it gives is in fact 2.5k slayer xp. If you want I even have a video of it that proves this is the case. Off-Topic PS: If you're wondering about that "as early as" I mentioned, no, it does not mean I'm a truant :P . I just have a wierd school schedule - the class times are only the same two days of the week.
  21. I like all of them a lot, but at different times. My favorite to train is melee - slayer is awesome  . I like ranging when I get in fast damage, like with darts or knives. Hence, I also like using up my chinchompae from hunter :P . And of course, magic is superb (fun-ness wise) in PVP. Ancients anyone? :) And yes, this really should be put in questionnaires :P .
  22. I earn money by doing whatever skill I'm training at the time (construction notwithstanding :P ). I've also made a lot of money barrowing, but I only do so if I want to get money faster than skilling permits for some reason.
