You can get 99 mining in 3-4 months playing casually, probably sooner.

Get 85 attack and defence, to help, but your really only capable for Bandos or Zamorak, maybe Dks. Getting 85 or even 90 range would open up the possibility of you going/helping you try on Zil and Arma.

Black Dhide is better than karils, you should aim to get verac helm, or anything else with a prayer bonus/little bit with melee defence, I used a torag helm... but it wasn't as good.

You'd be surprised at the things I remember, and for sure, you should aim for it.

Both capes will be trimmed no matter what, so go and get 99 range, and then get like 99 cooking quick times to trim the cape.
