  1. i may have p2p stats but i've never trained mining in members using granite...hell i've never trained mining in members >.> for the simple reason that my p2p time is limited and i want to train p2p skills then. i would say go with mining...i've fished and mined a lot as you can see from my levels and if you are after big bucks, 85 mining gives you much bigger bucks than 99 fishing can ever give you. with 85 mining you should be able to mine around 20 rune ores in an hour depending on certain factors which adds up to around 270k per hour...i doubt fishing in f2p will make you that kind of money...but like many have said 85 mining is hard to get....there was once i mined 5k coal at one shot and probably mined close to 10k coal ores to get to 85 as well as power mining iron A LOT...but once u reach 85 u can just mine rune all you want and from 85 to 87 probably 1/5 of the exp came from rune ores lol
  2. but runescape ensures that we type frequently and thus do not neglect that skill...certainly i could take a typing class but if i didn't play runescape i would not type much on the computer anyway and half of everything i learnt would probably be forgotten in time to come...it is just like playing piano...if i were to take up piano lessons my skills would definitely improve much faster but once those lessons stop and i have no reason to play the piano anymore those skills would slowly but surely fade away... as they say, practise makes perfect and runescape is what we practise our typing skills on.
  3. oh where to start...6 years ago when i first started playing rs it taught me how bronze is made and there was a science question that came out about bronze and i managed to answer correctly that it was an alloy of copper and tin...it also etched into my memory that steel is made from iron and steel although i real life we use much more iron and much less steel :P more and more frequently runescape has helped developed my intellectual capabilities and analytical skills...i started merching recently after the grand exchange came out and doing this successfully really requires a bit of thinking contrary to popular belief...it is not all about buying low and selling high. you have to take into account the impact and effect of future updates on the rs economy and how prices of items will be affected...i recently made around 5-6m from the introduction of PvP although i admit that was rather a bit of a no-brainer but still you need to know when is the right time to sell all the food at max price just before everyone starts offloading their stuff sending food prices crashing... also not just runescape but forums related to runescape such as tip it, runescapecommunity as well as my clan's forum (skillnchill) have helped developed the intellectual side of me. in the forums i love to debate a lot on issues such as whether prayer should be used in battles, opinions on no-lifing, pixel hugging and so on and so forth. over time i can really see my language and argumentative skills sharpen significantly which has helped my general paper subject quite a bit and will definitely be of use in future cause analytical thinking will no doubt be of great importance in just about any career... also, many people have asked what's so fun about gaming and to this question i answer that runescape has helped me to achieve the 4th level of Maslow's hierarchy of need: self-esteem. wealth and power (in terms of skills) are pretty well respected in runescape and even though it may be just a game it can allow one to feel euphoria and self-satisfaction and have people looking up to you especially if you treat even low levels nicely (which i do) of course playing this game has also helped me to de-stress and relax after studying continuously so yea this game has certainly been of some use =)
  4. Runescape username: Selhy Combat level: 122 + 8 F2P or P2P: F2P at the moment
  5. i thought there was quite a bit of repetition on the article =S but not too bad on a whole i guess...and while i do agree that mage is slightly inferior to melee i can't say that range is inferior...with the red chins one can train range very quickly while poorer peeps can use the bone xbow or mithril bolts...and the dark bow certainly provides one with the ability for 2 hit k0s. i've seen many people die to dark bows before which can hit above 50 quite often if you wear full void, range pray and drag arrows. i myself was just thinking about the future of jagex and how it is unsustainable to keep expanding melee with better weapons...perhaps it is time jagex makes an update for the other skills such as mining which has almost never received a decent update (even the inferno adzne is like a rune pic -.-) and rune rocks are still the best one can mine...along with other skills where the max ability is of a level below 90 such as slayer and prayer... one possible way for an expansion would be to introduce new prayers that can negate a percentage of hits especially since the current highest prayer ability is only at a mere level 70 which is pathetic when you consider that to get to level 70 only requires about 1m exp while level 99 requires 13m exp...another way which i thought of would be to introduce RS3 which someone has mentioned already but instead of resetting everything let everyone's skill levels transfer over in one way or another...yea that would be cool but a huge update =)
  6. the author seems to have forgotten about the wonderful dark bow which is really a killer weapon for rangers when combined with other tricks ;) and for those who say that this is only for pvp look at chinchompas...with them you can train range at a much faster rate than mage cause barraging would probably cost more...and for those who fill that chins are expensive there is always the trusty rune xbow with mithril arrows...i got my 99 range mainly from ranging slayer tasks such as blk demons etc =D
  7. like you i'm high level and moderately rich (i had around 130m but now i've around 160m from merching in f2p =P) but yea i don't spend on too expensive stuff either...i don't wear a fury cause i think the price difference is a bit too much =S but i obviously don't wear rune...lol rune is for people below level 60... i usually wear torag or guthan...oh wait i think i do wear rune chest sometimes :ohnoes: but never rune legs...i use a drag skirt instead. but barrows is really much better than rune for it's cost which is why i use it but only when necessary...i mean with maxed out melee, the only occasions when i really need barrows is when i'm fighting nechs, gargoyles, black demons or other hard hitting creatures...for things like greaters and fire giants i don't really bother :P as for dfs i've always used drag sq or rune def but with price falling i might consider getting it when i become memb again...dfs provides so much more def and using a rune def against nechs might not be that wise...at the very least using it against metal drags will save u quite a bit =)
  8. yea keep the junk you get from skilling...i kept all the willow logs i got from training wc even though they can't sell but i managed to sell them all doing junk trades with swordies recently =D
  9. er why wait till after DT? well unless you want to level to 99 mage barraging everyone then fine  but i would get 99 mage asap, finish dt once i get members and go own at castle wars or something i've also been planning to get 99 mage soon since it is my last combat skill (other than prayer and summoning) which is not yet 99...but i'll probably get it in p2p cause i want to get it bursting rock lobs in order to train summoning at the same time...i don't fancy having to collect charms in future by meleeing cause it will sort of be like a "waste of exp" since all my melee stats are maxed out already :? level 100 pl0x?
  10. dfs is not that good cause most people just focus on dishing out damage...the more damage you dish out, the faster general graardor dies, the less damage you take AND the more money you make  with DFS you just stay there longer and waste time lol  in fact you kill the general even slower :? so get the BGS and hopefully earn everything back...but if you have a sufficiently high range level i would suggest going to armadyl or sara instead so that if price of bgs continues dropping you won't lose much...
  11. yea level 3 with slayer cape would be more impressive imo...or summoning cape with all other combat stats at 1 and hp at 10
  12. this quote from trembake or however you spell his name seems to imply that he thinks that, to quote him, "magic level doesn't effect (should be affect actually) your magic defense at all" which is complete bull imo...i'm maxed out melee (99 atk, str, def, hp), 99 range, and 97 magic and many times when mini games such as castle wars or clan wars i find it much harder hitting people with high magic even if they are wearing melee armour...and likewise there have been many occasions when magers miss me completely when i'm wearing full rune...and i'm not talking about once in a blue moon i'm talking about more than 3 times in a row even when i do not have any sort of prayer activated...magic level definitely helps your magic def but like what the mod before me said perhaps it would be more logical to say that defense plays a larger role... but to say that magic level has no effect on your magic defense at all is... :shame:
  13. lol i don't know what's wrong with your luck but i got from bronze to 3 rune defenders in less only around 2k tokens...try to kill the higher level cyclops and remember to show your defender to the woman every time you get one of the next level...maybe my stats are slightly higher but shouldn't make much of a diff...maybe i'm just lucky \
  14. bunyip is almost always better cause with a bunyip you don't have to waste time changing equipment and have a slower exp rate as compared to using guthan which involves removing your powerful black mask and weapon of choice...the only time where guthan is better is when the hits you take are so much that a bunyip can't heal them sufficiently MAYBE for cases like nechs or gargoyles but even then i'm guessing you have quite a high def already and if you don't wear the stupid torso with some 2 handed weapon to nechs you shouldn't need guthan...but for most people and for most slayer tasks bunyip will definitely be better than guthan ;)
  15. imo should sell the fury and buy like 5-10 glories instead which will be very helpful...also, since you should try to cut cost as much as possible, you could get a granite shield instead of an obby shield which is much cheaper than obby shield but provides the same def just not the str bonus (which i feel is not life-changing) don't get a fighter torso unless you plan on doing some really easy tasks or have high def cause if not you will require guthans which you don't have yet or waste quite a bit of food...torso has worse def than addy plate body... also get some pray pots and anti dragon fire shield if you plan on meleeing metal drags...either that or you can mage them...and seeing as you probably have more than 70 range you can consider ranging some of your tasks such as fire giants and at higher levels even black demons and hell hounds...or and if possible get a dragon halberd which is very useful on big monsters with a higher than average defense such as fire giants, greater demons (can hit very high consistently on these), hell hounds, black demons etc...dds spec would probably not do as much even if you used 4 dds specs and 3 halberd specs. if you can't get 68 summoning i will advise you not to get guthan either since it wouldn't be that essential if you are on a tight budget...many more important things for a slayer and food with terrorbird can replace guthan most of the time...use pray pots only when really necessary and try to cut cost as much as possible. for example you could use karil against aberrant specs instead of praying and maybe wear a kwarum glove if you can use one...while slayer earns you quite a bit it really isn't all that much imo...if you are looking for something big, go boss hunting ;)
  16. for people from sals complaining about getting ambushed before they even made it to the place...please thank the ambushers for sparing you guys the embarrassment of dying in an even shorter time if you guys had made it there....and if tip iters were such noobs you should have been easily able to defend yourself against them...the fact that you lost against the ambushers which were probably a FRACTION of the number of tip iters means that you clearly wouldn't have stood a chance if you made it to the war castle... yea i know there were lots of bsers but that is the whole reason why this is a steel war : you aren't supposed to lose much if you die so you are supposed to die happily...i mean if you protect item you don't lose your scim so the most you should lose after eating all your food shouldn't be more than 30k =S and it was probably because there was far too few competition from the other sites that tip iters got bored and started bs-ing...yea sada1337 and his gang of bs-ers attacked me as well but too bad they failed big time and i managed to run off easily enough...it was fun though and i managed to get quite a few drops...rune 2h, rune scim, rune mace, rune long, addy gaunlets =)
  17. yea i agree with ralag...stop setting your own rules...this isn't your game nor are you the only individual playing...the rules are set by jagex so either you learn to live with them or run away from the battle like a coward...if you are really that pro you should easily be able to kill opponents who pray protection prayers like i've seen people do on countless occasions... stop setting imaginary rules which you think that everyone should adhere too...this is real life, please wake up from your fantasy world...you aren't the king...you are just another statistic.
  18. I saw your post, it wasn't worth addressing. I rarely run out of prayer in pvp, and that's versus smiters. That's a nonfactor. In the worst case scenarios you sprint out when you use your last dose. Just because your prayer might last 20 seconds longer doesn't mean [cabbage] when the other guy decides to run and the best you can do is hope for a 27 over prayer. Like I said, you will NOT ko me if I use prayer. End of discussion. It's not a duel or a minigame, there's absolutely nothing keeping me there when I run low on prayer or food. If anybody needs it read, it's you. I said before I'm not in any way a pure. I pk with full armor. The entire difference between armor and prayer is armor does NOT get in the way of a decent fight, and while it slows down damage, it does not completely negate any form of ko ability. I could head out in 40m+ worth of tanking gear, +400 slash def, and still get koed by a lucky spec. That's not going to happen with 43. Seriously get your [wagon] out of your wagon and learn something about pking, ignorant arguments based off inexperience aren't going to win [cabbage]. Your opinion is meaningless until you've actually done some real pvp. And sorry, but CW and the Duel arena are NOT pvp. it is entirely possible to dish out high hits when your opponent is praying protection prayers...firstly skillful pkers will find it comfortable switching to msb/dbow to spec when their opponent is praying melee pro or switching to dds when their opponent is praying range pro and even if it is a melee battle and both players are playing melee pro it is entirely possible to score a high hit... you keep imagining that players are fighting at edge or something...when the other player starts running away there's nothing stopping you from chasing them...that's what your run energy is for in case you were wondering...alternatively you could cast an ice barrage followed by d bow spec which should easily hit over 50 if your opponent is melee protecting. ONE of the purpose of prayer is to put more variety in the game and prevent players from just using a single style of combat all through a battle...if you are really a pro pker it should be easy enough for you to switch styles quickly when your opponent prays a protection prayer. by doing so you can effectively render their protection prayers useless...if you are too lazy or do not have the skill to do so then i really do not know what to say... and stop acting as though everyone has not pked before and you are the only person who pks...i didn't get my stats maxed out for nothing...and i only prefer fighting with people with similar stats so that the battle will be a real test of skill of style switching and tatics rather than a boring and mundane one where you just use the same style over and over again...i've played rs for more than 6 years now and pked since rsc so stop talking as though you are the king of pk...if you are really that good you will be able to kill your opponent even if he is pro praying...a real professional is easily able to adapt to changes that come his way and exploit the situation even if it may seem to be against him...
  19. wth man...i only talked about torag and dfs as a freaking EXAMPLE in the same way one shouldn't wear rune since it "drags the fight on right"? and although i agree DFS is expensive i think torag is dirt cheap...if someone can't even afford torag even...they shouldn't be pking seriously it's amazing how narrow-minded some people can be...really makes me want to believe in intelligent design (and that some people were designed less intelligently) and that part about mage and karil is totall irrelevant to my point...my point is that if you guys say protect prayers drag fights on then armour which DEFINITELY drag fights on should not be used too right...waste of time... if someone pulls out mage on me i'll have karil's and cbow ready...practically everyone is a hybrid and i got my 99 range for a reason -.-
  20. You will beat the pure, but you won't kill him. Prayer vs prayer does nothing but drag the fight out forever, ultimately wasting both of the fighter's supplies until one gets low enough they just run 6 steps to safety. That's the real reason PKers hate prayer. It isn't an advantage for EITHER party, since the entire reason both of you are out there, to kill for loot, is just about raped by prayer. Instead of the best player getting a ko and some [cabbage], the best player slowly wears the other guy out then watches his target run to safety. That's what I don't get about non-pkers that think they're being smart by using prayer when pking. They aren't being smart; they're shooting themselves in the foot and wasting their money while doing it. Sure, you may never die, but neither will the other guy. And seriously, everybody uses stat bonus prayers. They aren't talking about piety or ultimate strength when they complain about prayer, so don't even go there. dude you are assuming the 2 players have the SAME prayer level, praying the SAME prayers, have the SAME prayer bonus and drink the SAME number of prayer potions in the fight...i've already explained this in my previous posts above this one (if you scroll up you can see it)... and by your logic then we should all remove our armour since it "drags" the fight on...and maybe all of us should stop training def and become pures too since it "drags" the fight on...woo hoo what wonderful words of advise...
  21. huta if you can't be bothered to explain why bother posting? at least copy and paste your argument from the previous page or something...can't expect everyone to read the thread from page 1 to page 8 before posting right...what about those threads which have more than 100 pages -.- seriously...
  22. my 2nd post does talk about protection prayers...in fact i talked about almost every type of prayer other than those not commonly used in fights... more assumptions coming from the "advocates of no prayer"...assumptions such as "I'm sure you'll have enough to consistently pray throughout the fight even whilst using piety" are clearly unfounded and not backed by any elaboration or evidence...how can you be so sure about this? :roll: i seriously doubt the truth in this statement because for one, some pures do not even train pray and even if they do, many do not train till 43...please enlighten me on how someone with prayer level below 43 can pray protect melee :roll: and when you say that "The thing about armor is that it doesn't give a 50% damage reduction" i do beg to differ...hmm why not just consider someone wearing full torag with dfs...i really wonder how many people feel that player A with nothing but protect from melee can outlast prayer B with full torag and dfs :-w EVEN if player A does so happen to outlast player B the difference will be small...also, jagex probably knows that current defense items already do reduce damage quite significantly or they would not have introduced the divine shield with 30% damage reduction on top of it's superior stats already from just one item for fear of making holders of such an item invincible...thus, i daresay full torag and dfs do reduce damage by more than 50%... and from the last part of the previous post: "I don't care. Pray to save your [wagon], whatever. Pray continuously throughout the fight, go die in a hole." we can see how advocates of "no prayer" have nothing left and nothing better to say but to agree with our point that praying is perfectly fine unless we should all take off our armour as well...so in future before you start arguing about not using pray in fights please argue the case of not using in armour in fights and perhaps even the case that everyone shouldn't train defense since it just "prolongs the fight"...if you can do that successfully, then and only then will you have no problem getting everyone convinced that we shouldn't use prayers =D> and not to worry...i'll certainly be praying throughout the fight and to save my [wagon]...yup that is one thing that you got right :thumbup: that said, if there is one thing that everyone can learn from the previous post is that everyone who feels that prayer should not be used should follow this guy's attitude and "not care about those who pray" cause it isn't going to make a damn bit of difference to us =;
  23. It is you who does not understand. Protection prayers are NOT needed to 'balance' the fight. If we were in RSC I would say, you know what, you're right, because pures were straight up beasts in it. So much so that jagex changed the way combat levels are raised to stop pures. Pures are tame versions of what they once were. I know and accept this. They are actually balanced with someone who has defence, to the point of the win could go either way in a fair fight. If you ran into a pure who was your combat level in RSC wildy you might as well have just handed your [cabbage] over and logged out. hmm now pures are saying we shouldn't use protection prayers cause they prolong the fight...in the future they are probably going to say we shouldn't use armour cause it prolongs the fight too yea? look here...the COMBAT LEVEL was designed to incorporate your attack, str, def AND PRAYER level (talking about f2p and anyway summoning is not even in the picture here) thus jagex obviously feels that prayer is an aspect of the game which balances combat...if 2 people(guy A and B) are level 100 and A doesn't train prayer, he can't expect B not to use prayer. this is because if the B didn't use prayer it will be tantamount to B having 1 prayer which would in turn lower B's combat level and make A have the advantage. Thus B uses prayer for the simple reason that his prayer level is PART OF HIS COMBAT LEVEL and not using it is effectively reducing his combat level...giving A the upperhand. to conclude, prayer balances combat unless you are saying that jagex has made some calculation errors and combat should be tweaked....which in that case feel free to complain to jagex...not us.
  24. for those too noob to have used prayer in fights before, praying IS a tatic. look at the number of different prayers one can use (do not assume that everyone uses piety straight away which is not wise at all) and you will see how many different permutations and combinations you can come up with...it is a balance between the length of time you can pray and the amount of bonuses the prayers give you... you don't have to use 10% attack just because you are using 10% strength prayer...very often i use 10% attack and 5% strength and if i get piled i just switch on protect melee together with 15% def prayer instead of running around complaining like some immature kid... firstly i would like to say that if both opponents use only the 15% attack and strength prayers i see no reason why the battle should take longer...please enlighten me in this area  even if both use piety, the 23% bonus to strength and 20% bonus to attack should, or dare i say definitely will, overpower the 25% bonus to defense speeding up the fight instead. and EVEN IF prayer might make a battle longer, if your prayer level is higher than your opponent you will have a much better chance at winning assuming that both your other combat stats are on par...which makes sense since someone with a higher str/atk/def would be expected to win more frequently too... so your argument that using prayer just makes the battle longer and has no effect on the outcome is flawed as you are assuming that the 2 players fighting have exactly the SAME prayer level, using the SAME prayers and are drinking the SAME number of prayer potions...not to mention their prayer bonus are the SAME too -.- hmm probably one in a million...or perhaps billion considering the number of combinations and permutations there are. anyone who takes mathematics at a decent level and know about permutations and combinations and factorials will easily be able to see that... saying that prayer makes "no difference to the outcome but just prolongs that battle" is the same as saying "armour makes no difference to the outcome but just prolongs the battle too" for armour allows you to tank longer. likewise prayers allow you to do that exact same thing AND hit harder too. THUS if you say that prayer should not be used since it prolongs the battle then we should all fight without any armour...just hold a single weapon and whatever that gives only attack bonus...as you can see, the flaw behind the armour argument is that most people will be wearing different armour. LIKEWISE, you can't expect everyone to be using the same prayer, have the same prayer level, same prayer bonus and drink the same number of prayer potions. and finally i would like to conclude by saying that there have been countless occasions where i used prayer to save my [wagon] and turn the tables on my opponent...so just have fun NOT using prayer and getting owned by me please =D>
