Just consider yourself lucky; If most people had/could have Alienware gaming laptops they wouldn't care if the screen had 400 dead pixels. 8-) Those things are seriously powerful and with WLAN, you can even play high graphic MMORPG's/FPS games with no wires and they are at least 3 times better than normal desktop gaming computers. Well, I was watching a movie during an aeroplane flight last year on a small, 8-inch TFT which conveniently had two dead pixels in the middle of the screen (why not on the bottom left corner for gods sake?), and it does drive you crazy. It draws attention and you can't focus on the movie. Just buy a plasma, TFT's with current technology do mainly suck.

Well, you could always try to go to her place and spend time there. I pretty much had to do that anyways when I was 16 because our house was small and often I couldn't even sleep alone unless I chose to sleep on the living room couch... Chances are that her parents are much more tolerating than yours, I know mine were a bit 'sketchy' too. I had the exactly same problem; First my father tells me "yeah it's ok son, you should get a girl", then he starts making trouble out of nothing. Or the Super Mario theme, orchestral. That works wonders when you're enraged and want to calm down.

Why do scientists believe the Big Bang created the world?
BlueLancer replied to Biabf's topic in Off-Topic
You are still missing the point. Your point heavily relies on the fact that my God is modern and the ones that aren't worshipeed anymore (aka, have been "disproved") aren't. My God has been around longer than the ancient Greek and Roman gods and is still being worshipped. My God has survived all of the complete loss of faith that the Ancient Greek and Roman gods had and has been around longer than them. Therefore, your argument that they were disproved is completely meaningless because the followers of my God is still increasing daily and my God has been around longer than the ancient Greek and Roman ones. It didn't take long for peopel to stop believing in them, but people STILL believe in my God. That is what makes me believe my God will not be proven false one day. The fact that it has lasted as long as it has with how many followers it has. You can't even compare it to the ancient Greek and Roman gods that were disproved because of how miniscule of a time they were around before being disproved compaired to how long my God has been around with people still believing in Him. (Note: anytime I say disprove, I am following your lead by assuming that i means "still having people believe in them as the cause of events" or whatnot) Your still missing my point. We know today that the roman/greek god's were not real because we can prove the logic behind them. My point is that, in years to come, we may be able to find the cause behind what created the universe and esentialy "disprove" the existance of god. Even those this disproving for the Roman/Greek god's is much more recent than the god's themself the "disproving" of our god may (or may not) happen many years from now. How long a god has "been a god" doesn't have as much of a relavence to the idea. For instance, the roman soldiers, possibly your ancestors if you happen to live in europe, really believed the god Mars could grant them victory in war, and they'd sacrifice to him and worship him. What makes this God inexistant, just because he hasn't been around for long or because it has theoretically no supporters today? We wont know what happens in the future as a result of possible wars. If christianity becomes obsolete just like greek gods, who's to claim it still is the "right" religion? New religions will come and go, it's simply a coincidence that some religions like Islam and Christianity have been able to grow so big because technological advantages promoting the spread of religions has happened during the time these religions have been active. I didn't expect you saying that. The credibility of an unproven idea has nothing to do with how many supporters it has or how long it's been around for. I am 100% sure there are religions much more older than any of the ones practised today, they do exist, there just aren't any worshippers left. Just as a curiosity, you might want to know there are still tens of thousands of people in Greece that do believe in old gods. The number could be even higher, you can look up greek neopaganism if you're interested. -
I didn't even think that's physically possible. But maybe it is, I wouldn't bother trying... :-X Lol well your feet is alot more cleaner then your hands Then again most people wash their hands several times a day while only showering once a day or 2 days... :-k

Why do scientists believe the Big Bang created the world?

Actually, I'd trust scientific advise on how to life a good and healthy life both physically and mentally any day over some old scripture that told people how to live well 2000 or more years ago. But that's just me. For example, the Bible does contain lots of good advise and common sense anybody should be able to figure out, such as the 10 commandments. It's not scientific but it's a very respectable (even if not fully practised by even nearly all christians) code of ethics. Jews worship the same God as christians, but Jews do not believe Jesus to be the messiah. They're still waiting for the messiah. It makes christianity interesting as it is originally based on judaism, yet it worships both Jesus, the son, and God, the father (and in catholicism, even Mary is worshipped though she is not a part of the holy trinity doctrine). -

Now, putting aside individual respect, religious fanaticism and courtesy, let's make it clear it is ignorant to state in a real debate that the world is 6,000 years old and that's when it was created along with all the things that exist today. Just radiometric dating alone can prove objects and minerals to be as old as 4.404 billion years old and it is an absolute certainty that many of earth's substances have existed for at least 4.404 billion years. The isotope 206 of lead has a half life of over 4.5 billion years, hardcore religious people might want to perform research on that one. The isotope 40 of Potassium has a half life of 1.3 billion years and can be found in many rocks today. In case you still think the Earth is 6,000 years old or whatever your book says, consider reading about radiometric dating. http://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/eens211 ... dating.htm -
If you wash your hands several times a day it isn't really that disgusting and can strengthen your teeth. ..Not trying to justify it...

South Park - Make love, not warcraft (won an Emmy)

I read about this a lot on some message boards, old people get VERY addicted to the aspect that there are tons of people online all the time and it's very easy to get started. -
Lol, Dragonball is teletubbies compared to Mortal Kombat. Did you even play the series? You aren't probably even supposed to play some of the games if you're under 18. They are entertaining, but very violent. Characters in dragonball don't spit out spinal chords and rip hearts from living people or eat babies for breakfast. Gosh, Maddox should try these games, he'd die of an orgasmic heart failure.

Moved here since dk3.com <- destroyed scapeboard.com and it's entire archive of hundreds of gigabytes of data. That was over 2 years ago, and the host most likely just deleted all the stuff and never even had the intention to pass it to us, so they just created a new forum here at forum.tip.it.

Er, it's much easier than using any kind of tools to cut your nails (or especially scissors). I've done it since like age 7. Just make sure the waste is thrown in it's justified place, which is not your carpet. :wall: On the other hand (no pun) I just don't understand people who bite their nails because they're anxious or stressed. But there are many kinds of people and habits.. :)

I think it's ego-inflation. Past a certain point, some posters just forget that people thought they were funny because of what they said, not because of who's name tag was next to it. The really weird thing is that people seem to forget that as well; Some posts that would've been shot down for pure stupidity faster than you could figure out how to spell "newbie" three different ways, survive - and are tolerated - only because of who's name is under the author tag. As if there's some sort of "immunity" gathered from worth-reading posts made months ago. *shudder* Hah, that's so true.. But yeah, it's inevitable on any online forum. Once you get a certain amount of quality posts or you are just well-known (or a mod or whatever), there does seem to be an aspect of 'diplomatic immunity' kicking in. I doubt that could survive for long here on off topic at tip.it though (3 ways to spell newb) I use a couple of forums at least 10 times larger than tip.it and moderate a few, and the guys who got 10,000+ posts and are well known in the community for providing good links and downloads etc. are practically free to roam the forums as they have the 'popular support' to do so. Nobody will lock their 400 page "Do you prefer macaroni over spaghetti' thread while a newbie posting the same thread there gets the lock in a matter of minutes along with a flash of delicious flame.

Wrong. Carbon 14 never disappears completely from the things it's in. If you look at a C14 graphic, you'll see it tends to 0, but never reaches it. After half life, half the amount wares off, then after another half life there's only 25% left, then another half life and 12.5% left, and so successivelly. This way, you can date things at any age, theorically. If it's not possible to date something, it isn't because the method is flawled, nor because the object to be dated have gotten too old. It's because we don't have sufficient technology to measure the amounts left. Because there is still C14 in there. You're almost right, however current C14 dating can't measure any substance accurately if it's older than 38,000-60,000 years old. Every 5000 years or so, radioactive decay takes place in a C14 atom. This is measured with a method called AMS (or accelerator mass spectrometry). It is extremely expensive as the electricity consumed by a spectrometer in 10 minutes of use is massive and the machine itself is almost the size of a whale. The reason why there is no method to "accurately" measure any older objects, is because of background radiation. The amount of C14 earth is already about 0.000......1% (about one trillionth) of all natural carbon, and once the atom has halved about 10 times, it becomes impossible to recognize it. It is possible, though, to estimate objects and their radiation much older than that, but then again they are estimates. -
Indeed. Good flaming is priceless, and flaming thoughtfully is an art. I'm so angry because tons of ignorant teens don't realize this, flaming does not mean you run around cursing everything you see, calling a random person names then you think its clever or funny. That just makes you a jerk. I recommend reading a select few articles from maddox.xmission.com, it is really skillful flame (read: rational criticism) against something the author believes to be completely innecessary or irrelevant to modern world. Other than that, flaming does not belong to a rational discussion about philosophy or mathematics or something of the sort (unless some person clearly doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, you can use counter-points to prove him utterly wrong and he'll just crawl back to his hole). Lack of respect to other people makes you look ignorant and rather immature, especially if you're the one provoking. I wish more people understood this. That's not good flaming, Daan. I belive there are only 2 or 3 good flamers in this forum, and I'm not one of them, if that's what you understood I meant. Good flaming takes great amounts of intelligence, sense of irony and perspicacity. Am I disqualified from being a good flamer because I had to look up the definition of perspicacity? I've never even heard of that word. One major mistake "good" flamers make is using "big words" to get their point through. Just because you typed Antidisestablishmentarianism or Floccinaucinihilipilification on an online forum, it doesn't mean your IQ just rose by 50 or your post achieved heavenly status.

What is more important to you safety or freedom?
BlueLancer replied to hadessniper's topic in Off-Topic
Yep, there are people in supposedly modern countries like Turkey that openly criticize their government and still they have to go to jail for their totally rational beliefs. Doesn't really encourage other people to use their brain does it? -
Actually, it's probably the best thing ever compared to being starved at the age of 12, like (sadly) many of the kids that age in the world are. Those kids weren't starving though and even if their mother had no common sense, why do you think a judge would ever sentence her to death? She is still after all the mother of those children. Where does it even say the kids are mad at their mother? (Though, they should be because cocaine is not a drug you can easily get away from) Too many people are brainwashed (partially it's a positive thing) into believing the ultimate evilness of drugs. It is often considered worse than murder or rape. Even if a human being uses drugs, it doesn't lower his status as a human. I'd rather feel sorry for him than hate him/her.

I could live in a feudal society because I'm not really concerned with the "freedom" of any government. As I repeatedly stated countries like those are really rare, such as the nordic countries. I'd have to disagree with politicians being happy puppets of the people; They aren't. Many politicians will do everything to further their own cause and increase their own power on the expense of civil liberties and human rights. These days, you could be a totally normal guy from any country, and the CIA can arrest you for 5 years with no trial and you don't have a right to ask why you were taken away. Or, what about the guy who was killed shortly after the London terrorist attack several years ago? He was just an ordinary brazilian engineer going to work, he was shot down. The UK just apologised; That's not enough. They should seriously revamp their system to SERVE the people rather than take their lives and freedoms away. -
I can't add anything more to that. The meaning of the word has been raped, but I still try not to give out promises unless I can fulfill them. A promise means you are COMMITTED to doing something, not "Sounds interesting, maybe I'll turn up at 7pm and maybe I wont", i.e. a light version of saying "no thanks".

Duh, I know that. Just wanted some relief on such a dry thread, not to say some of these excerpts aren't good though. :) That's a real quote or just a random one written by someone? If it's real, I'm amazed at how honest somebody can be. The text is so true.

As a kid I probably watched all the Mortal Kombat movies and played a lot of the video games (which were pretty good). :) Good to see they're still making new updated games.

This one caught my eye: LOL

..Fortunately truth is subjective and people like you (hopefully) either radically change their opinions when they grow out of their teens or simply don't stand a chance in achieving a position where you can judge people to death.

LOL That's a fantastic comment. Although I can't quite see how fox news fits in with everything you said... As an american you should know... :shame:
