  1. You or I don't know him personally. He might have a short attention span and still huge motivation. Mark Davies is 18 years old so I think it's very unlikely he started playing football at age 14 and getting so good in 4 years. although i dont know much about football i can tell you when most people really use their talent and become really good is in your teens because youre bigger and have more resources such as high school teams which get you in the right shape Very true as I witnessed this in my teens when some of my friends and cousins became pretty darn good at football and at least one of them is probably looking forwards to a pro-career. What I meant was that a 14 year old that has never before touched a football is very unlikely to get very good in 4 years. Most good players started at age 7 or earlier. (Nice post count you have there.. 8-) )
  2. If you've studied your own country's history, you'd know it has been implented. England also had one of the most brutal ways in human history of punishing a human being; Quartered after being dragged on a road and hanged. Just think of all the things "quartered" can mean. Yep, while the person was alive, his guts were ripped off and his body sliced in four parts. Given that execution is today a less painful process, Britain has stopped using it because there are numerous cases where executed people allegedly had "murdered" somebody, and later research proved them totally innocent. Waste of human life?

  4. I think capital punisment (execution) is a medieval thing in a modern world. The worst offenders could be put to forced labor; At least they are of some use then. You are also entirely missing the costs of capital punishment by comparing it to housing prisoners. Some background: http://www.mindspring.com/~phporter/econ.html Is it worth spending so much money just to punish a murderer? Believe me, even if my family member was brutally killed (which I don't hope), I would not want death penalty for the offender. Not only are my tax dollars being totally wasted, but the criminal gets the easy way out. Let him serve the country by working in a mine for 40 years. If he doesn't like it, tough luck since he killed a person and his other option is "not existing". Just the financial spending is ridiculous and very ineffective. All western countries have already banned the practice; Except for the United States.
  5. So true.. 1. First of all, they are NOT under an "absolute monarch" like somebody said. The king actually has very little formal powers. His authority is very respected on political issues though, but the country is a constitutional monarchy. 2. As posted earlier, this man, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is more than corrupt. You might want to research his sale of Shin Corporation stocks worth $1.8 billion dollars under sketchy circumstances. Sorry, but... Jerk #-o Actually, Mr. Shinawatra canceled the speech himself and flew to London where he owns real estate. At last, somebody with common sense and information. :) The general can NOT hold power for long because he doesn't have the public support to create an islamic republic or anything of that sort. Eventually the army could turn against him too. As the general has stated, they have no intention of holding power and will be electing a new prime minister as soon as possible. No blood was shed and most importantly, no protests took place. Sure you could say "well, the army was on the streets with their tanks". It was on the streets during protests under Shinawatra too, there were over 300,000 protesters which is a gigantic amount for a country such as Thailand. Just don't count on the average intelligence of a western person... It could be lower than you think. Still today lots of unseen racism and religious intolerance takes place on a large scale in "civilized" countries. See also the 'calculator' remark above... So typical.. Let's see how many people died during the coup... 0? Isn't this a bit better than the French Revolution, American Revolution, British Revolution..? I don't see how much more peacefully a coup can take place especially when it focuses on just one corrupt-to-the-bone man. I know you are referring to the general though, it has nothing to do with his religion. If you didn't know it, high ranking military offices in Thailand rotate annually and able commanders are picked regardless of their religion (mostly Buddhist and Muslim)
  6. Was going to mention the above... Since your facial bone and jaw structure isn't the same as the donor's, you wont have a similar face. You might have some similar features, but they will be distinct. So no, you can't do it like in M: Impossible III where the guy scanned the terrorist's face, made a transplant and wore it, looking exactly equal and fooling the bodyguard. And I don't see what's ethically wrong with it since the donor has given his/her full consent before coma/etc... Obviously she will have psychological problems even after years, it will be probably very hard to get used to a whole new face even you can't recognise.
  7. It's not fake, even though at times it seems Mario gets hit by the monsters or runs through void spaces etc., the thing is it's more of a coding glitch in the NES system. If you go that fast, the screen and enemies don't update properly and you may not lose health by monsters hitting you etc.. You aren't supposed to beat the levels with such speed. Either way, sick playing 8-)
  8. http://www2.2ch.net Is sick. When I first came upon the site, it struck me that it is probably not only the biggest japanese forum but one of the biggest in the world. A thread literally had... So many pages it's not worth mentioning. Compare to GAIA forums which alone has soon a billion forum posts (compare tip.it: ~1,25 million)
  9. This is the best example I could find on google images: Booster: Normal car seat: Baby seat: So yeah, when you get past a certain age you most likely wont like a booster seat, but if you could get into the trouble with the cops because of it, I'd tell the kid to suck it up 8-) I don't doubt it's safety either.
  10. Hey Steve 8-) This is quite an old thread but if you're still alive and kicking (which I hope you are), all the best in your life and good job for overcoming the medical troubles...
  11. "What is twice of one-tenth of one-fifth of one-tenth of 1,000?" 1000 / 10 = 100 / 5 = 20 / 10 = 2 x 2 = 4 For some weird reason I got 0.4, took me a few seconds.. I just realized 1000/10 = 100, not 10  I still doubt calculating things like that make you a 'genius'. Look, Mozart was a genius. He could play whole concerts at age 5. What do most kids do at age 5? Play with pokemon dolls. Unless you can calculate ridiculously difficult math at a young age, I don't think math ability makes many people 'genius' really...
  12. I would probably buy a gaming console for a blind person (especially a child) if he/she asked for it as a birthday present etc. In case you're wondering, yes it's possible to actually even be good at video games if you are blind. My childhood friend has a relative who is blind, about 12, and she can play video games actually pretty good just because her hearing ability is so developed (especially fighting games like Smash Bros Melee on GameCube). It IS possible to play games that way, and if it makes the person happy, I don't see why not... Happiness doesn't know the boundaries of "useful" or "proper" playing of video games which are meant to be only entertainment, after all...
  13. That's a good point. I was going to come in here saying that I don't think there should be seatbelt laws, and that they should just become strictly recomended, but Merc brought up a good of enough point for me to change my mind. Btw, they will never ban smoking. There still isn't good enough evidence that it can hurt others. Plus, it's too large of an industry to just ban, and would just show up on the streets and be sold all the same, just without any profit from the US/whatever. There is masses of evidence about passive smoking being even more dangerous than smoking yourself, hence for example in Nordic countries they banned smoking in restaurants altogether because among the staff there would be a certain amount of cancer cases even though the employee did not smoke him/herself. The financial thing is true though... Why would you want to give up a "legalized cocaine" business? Just as the government gets a round 0% (directly) from drug sales, it gets billions and BILLIONS of dollars in tax-income from cigarettes that are already one of the most if not *the* most heavily taxed products.
  14. I actually thought the numbers were higher before looking this up. It amazes me that in the 8th grade I was almost in the obese catagory, by ninth grade I was in the athlete catagory, and now I'm in tenth grade and I should still be in the athlete catagory. True, you can't live without body fat. I was talking about getting out of the 25% range. And really, it's safe to say "nobody" has less than 5% body fat. Well, some bodybuilders do, but it doesn't look like "Coleman awesome", it starts looking sick and very unattractive. 8 to 10% is often thought of as the golden level of fat in bodybuilding. My opinion? Just forget it. It doesn't matter if you have 9% or 13% or 12 and a half. Muscular development is SO dependent on the individual it may be even stupid to pursue ultra-low body fat levels. A guy with 12% may look much stronger than a bodybuilder with 6%. Just don't slip in the obese category... Then your main focus will not be gaining muscle mass but losing all the cover pudding that's making the muscles invisible.
  15. Sorry for a spam-esque post, but.. HAHA. Finally somebody admits it. Haven't seen that before... "It's just the accent.." No it's not..
  16. I don't know about you people, but if I was 5, I'd resist my parents trying to tie me to something that looks extremely stupid. If your friend saw you, at that age it can have big impact on your self esteem. If I or anybody else drives and there's a kid, I see no problem with the kid sitting in the back seat with a normal seatbelt. Well that solves the problem IMO. At first I thought 'baby seat' too, and for a first grader, that's [ahem] total humiliation. Thanks for the info :)
  17. Then probably newspapers and television, but most young people these days couldn't give two craps about them. I can recommend it though 8-) I also collect DVD's (in digital form...) though I don't have even NEAR as many as you. Holy cow.
  18. How can you be so sure there is "heaven"? Unless you're talking about the place-thingy where you can fly with an aeroplane... That sounds pretty harsh. :?: Haven't read about that view, any links?
  19. Global warming is one of the most likely.. It certainly won't destroy the whole world but countries that are near Greenland (such as USA) will be having a nice time if the whole of Greenland (which is ice) melts into the ocean. The sea level would be about 7 meters (about 20 feet) higher... I'll laugh so hard then. ("there's no such thing as global warming! hypocrite liar lefties! err.. why are my shoes wet?)" ..Unless I drawn..
  20. My computer/the internet. With it, I can get books, movies, music, video games, TV shows, enormous amounts of useful information, news, forums, instant messaging Sure, humans have been able to survive without a computer for ages. But IMO it is one of the best if not the best invention of the 20th century. There are so many things you can do with a computer it's unbelieveable. If that's not enough, well... You can earn money on the internet and buy real books or music/movies etc. if you insist, but how many people can earn money by reading books or listening to music, to buy a computer? 8-) Books are probably the most enduring form of entertainment. No matter if all the oil and energy sources run out, you still have your books...
  21. this is true, but you also lose fat according to where your body needs energy, Fat is just an efficient way of storing energy to be used later. But as a side note, we don't really "need" fat anymore these days, since we don't hunt for our food and have insurity about our next meal. Burning off as much fat as possible will not only make yourself more satisfied (your muscles will be more visible) but it is also healthier. Fat concentrating around your belly is the most dangerous in terms of health risks. So if that's one of your motivations (visible abs) it is actually benefiting you directly.
  22. Yeah, and most casual users by default use it. So if you post an image, etc. it might be a good idea to see how it blends in with "most user's" view. Not to say it's the "coolest" but still... 8-) Posting a picture of your black dog on a street at night may not be the best idea if you're using subBlack template..
  23. Japanese has several styles of writing. Some of them are more how English uses the alphabet while another style kanji is the typical character-based writing, pretty much identical to chinese characters - hence the reason why I can read some Japanese kanji :-). Korean characters are different (more circles =P) and I believe Vietnamese writing uses letters and such. Yeah, and the letters are more straight and a bit less "artistic" (not in a bad way, just my observation). 8-) The circles give it away too, but actually everybody I know can't distinguish between asian letters. C'mon...
  24. I can only speak for my class, warrior. Good PVP set: Marshal to field marshal. What is it but grind to get this "good gear" with your guild, PVP arena battle after another? Good... Other set? Dreadnaught or if you're willing to settle for less, wrath (tier 2) set. Atleast Warriors actually get a proper armour set, what do Druids get? Tier 0: Rubbish Tier0.5: Expensive and still rubbish Tier 1: Healbot set Tier 2: Healbot Set Tier 3: Healbot Set PvP Rare: alright hybrid gear PvP Epic: very good hybrid gear The problem? to be effective in PvP, a druid needs to have such good epic gear which most guilds won't let you bid DKP on because they're for others classes. Once you hit 60, it's almost impossible to get the PvP sets unless you're in a really good guild that lets you bid on whatever you want. Also of notice, the fact that none of the sets are decent for a Feral Druid or Balance druid (which is a ridiculously gear dependent build, to even be effective, you need atleast 300 +spell dmg on your armour and even then, being able to do 1k dmg with a 3 second cast time is rubbish). It's also a problem for priests who only have their PvP armour sets to compliment Shadow spec, but atleast they get a speciliast set, druids only have healbot sets for specialisation. But then again, (sorry if it sounds discriminating) I thought druids and priest are by 'natural choice' healbots. Warriors keep the aggro and mages/warlocks blast the monster, while "other" classes usually have to settle with buffing and healing. Hence I didn't pick a class like Paladin or Priest (though making a "Shadow Priest" sounded tempting but I never got to it)
  25. Just say Capricorn, and when they say "I knew it", say "No, wait.. Actually I'm an aquarius". That'll keep their mouth wide shut... Anyways, horoscope is already listed on most services, TV ads, etc. as "entertainment". That's what you should treat it as. 8-) If you're bored, go and read them. Just don't base your life on them. Make your own destiny instead of following some ridiculous planetary explanations. "Orion will soon dispatch the cellular metaphysics of the Mars while obligating nuclear rabbits to purchase radiating stocks on Jupiter and those born in January should expect two daily servings of meatballs" bla bla... Like Anesthesia said, it is quite an entertaining thought that a single description daily fits 1/12th of the entire world population no matter where they live, who they are, what they do, are they ill, healthy, young, old...
