  1. The vast majority of jewellery has no stat bonuses. Out of normal player-made gem stuff, only enchanted jewellery gives stat bonuses, and for jewellery under dragonstone, only the amulets. (Unless you count the damage boost of the CW brace against players holding your flag in Castle Wars, which I don't.)
  2. No, because whenever it forages an item, it interrupts your fletching and you stop in the middle of the inventory. (Hopefully Jagex will fix this at some point...I think there's a rant about it somewhere on the RSOF.) The beaver's woodcutting boost is invisible, so it lets you chop with a (negligible) increase in speed, but it doesn't let you chop trees that are higher level than you could chop normally. That's not an issue if you have 82 woodcutting already, though. ;) And the scrolls are worthless anyway. If you have any multichop scrolls, you're best off just swapping them for shards.
  3. That's not how probability works. You have very low odds, but you could still get one on your first kill just as easily as on your 10,000th kill. :shame:
  4. The full set actually gives the same xp as all of the pieces combined. Each individual piece is what, 30k bonus experience? So the full armour + weapon should be worth like 120k bonus xp. Is it worth using? Depends on how fast you can normally get combat experience. Assuming you can get ~60 points in an hour of SC, that's the equivalent of gaining 90k xp/hr with 0 gp/hr. If that's less efficient than your normal training rate, it's not worth it. If that's more efficient than your normal training rate, it's worth it. In other words, it becomes less worthwhile as your levels increase.
  5. Yes, it's definitely worth it. Piety is very powerful, it's good to be able to bless gravestones instead of just repairing them, it lets you pray for longer without recharging, and the Enhanced Excalibur's special attack is essentially a super defence potion crossed with a Void Spinner. I use my new Excalibur when I kill waterfiends--it's a guaranteed 20 hp per spec bar, a fine budget alternative to the SGS. (Piety is also good at waterfiends.) You definitely don't need to be teaming bosses for piety to be useful. Just between the jade vine, the phoenix, and Bork, I use piety frequently on a day-to-day basis, and it definitely makes those events faster. You can also get a significant xp/hr increase in melee training, especially if you use armoured zombies, where piety can already be used for free thanks to the nearby altar. Piety is also a strong advantage when meleeing in a PvP situation. And think about it. What else are you going to spend that cash on that would be more useful? Luxury items like Bandos or dragon armour or a Saradomin Sword or a Godsword all are less effective than using budget gear with Piety. The dragon bones for 70 prayer are probably a far better use of your money than anything else you could buy.
  6. I think he's just a device the Chaos Elemental is using to refer to red & green, since if you talk to him he rants about red and blue and green, referring to the three major gods of course.
  7. We already know it's not going to happen because they did the same thing with axe heads. It didn't happen then, and it won't happen now. Jagex isn't that stupid.
  8. Spirit warriors, the slayer monster in the God Wars Dungeon?
  9. If you like working for peanuts, maybe. They barely pay you at all.
  10. It'll be another name of someone we don't know anything about.
  11. I vaguely recall a J-mod saying that there were currently no plans to release a sailing skill. However, that does not rule out the possibility that such a skill will be released in the future. After all, it has gained widespread popularity. There's no way to prove that it will not be released; in fact, it's easily a top candidate for a new skill the next time one is released. Of course, there's also not really any way to prove it is going to be released in the near future...pretty much all the so-called "evidence" is hooey. Sailing may or may not come out, but in either case we have no way of knowing one way or another, any more than we know about other future updates Jagex hasn't talked about.
  12. The reference to Ralvash in Postbag 38 indicates that the other names used are almost certainly also ones we don't know and have never seen before. (It wouldn't be the first time the Chaos Elemental has done this to us.) So with this in mind, there's probably not much point in wondering if Muspah and Nial are supposed to be acronyms or something. So we don't have enough information to solve the whole clue, at least not yet, but knowing that Ralvash is a mahjarrat gives additional meaning to the first part of the letter. The use of the word "empty," juxtaposed with references to Zarosian mahjarrat, may indicate a return of Zaros...? Or something having to do with Zaros, anyway. Actually, we don't even know that Ralvash is (well, was) a Zarosian, just that he was a mahjarrat. Azzanadra also makes references to shadows, mirroring the Chaos Elemental again. We still can't be sure what the section is talking about, but I think we're getting a better idea. The 150th quest is coming up next, and we can infer that it's not just a trivial one because there is no quest coming out this month. I'm betting it's another Grandmaster, and it has something to do with one or more of the things the CE talked about in his most recent letter. If it continues the storyline of WGS, it wouldn't be implausible to see more mahjarrat joining the conflict around Lucien on one side or another. And we still haven't seen where the dragonkin fit in.
  13. I usually don't unequip it between herb runs :P Either way, 10 minutes is just too much. Oh, I keep my nature ammy equipped most of the time. Meh. *shrug*
  14. Troacctid replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
It's all well and good that you can do herb runs or whatever to earn money, but you simply can't factor those in. If you want to, well, I make around 600k from GE merching + 100k from herbs an hour so: Armored Zombies: 980k profit, 103k XP Slayer: ~50k? profit, 65k XP We're talking about slayer, not herb farming. Trying to say you 'break even' with slayer just because your earning money some other way is inane. Did you read all of my posts? Honest question. I'm curious, because I've stated three or four times that I was addressing your comment that training slayer at maximum efficiency is a huge loss. I've never once mentioned Armored Zombies except to verbally punch the children who assumed that I was talking about them without reading my posts. Armored Zombies have absolutely nothing to do with it. Let's recap: I argue that I can fund my training Slayer at max speed through sentient activities that waste little to no time, such as farming and MTK, and I will still come out ahead, with more money than what I started with. THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE ARGUMENT! It has nothing to do with Avianses, it has nothing to do with zombies, I did not claim that Slayer was "l0l 934u504k an hour cus i can merch," I simply argued that you were wrong that training Slayer at max speed is a drain. It's clear that you did not read any of my posts, and it's clear that not one of the kids who attempted to argue with me read any of my posts. It's impossible to argue a point when the opposition ignores your argument in lieu of one that they would prefer to argue, regardless of it's relevance to the discussion. That said, enjoy your inability comprehend basic English. If you're making 950k gp/hr without slayer and 100k gp/hr with slayer, how is it not a drain? And if it wasn't, what would it matter? The subject of the thread is whether slayer is a worthy training method. If you made 50k gp/hr off slayer, it still wouldn't be a worthy training method, because it would still be slower and less profitable than better methods, which by the way is the reason you're seeing armoured zombies being mentioned, since that's what the thread is about. I find it ironic that you're talking about irrelevancy when you've already said that you agree with the people you're arguing against on everything but the irrelevant parts.
  15. I don't see why not. If it works in regular training, it should work while chinning, no?
  16. The general consensus is that Dorgesh-Kaan becomes better somewhere in the 80s, although the exact level is not well-defined to my knowledge. A grapple is not needed; just a light source.
  17. Troacctid replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
Armored zombies are incredibly fast experience because not only do you get a 20% bonus on offense from salve (e), which is more than your black mask at fire giants, but they're also right next to an altar so you can use piety for free the entire time. There's no way fire giants are faster melee xp, even with a black mask. As for the drops, they drop healthy amounts of runes, noted planks, and noted pure essence, easily enough for 100-200k gp/hr in profit. Not to mention a small handful of charms as well. Because the valuable common drops are stackable and a bunyip provides more than enough healing to never need food, they're ideal for camping as well. The only two flaws I can think of is that they're slow for summoning experience, and you can't use a combat familiar. And for the kind of combat xp you can get there, that's something I'm willing to give up. :wall: Your "entire point" is completely irrelevant. Of course it's possible to fund cannon and piety use. If it wasn't, nobody would be able to use them. Regardless, it doesn't mean anything to the topic at all. You even agreed with compfreak's point. What are you talking about?

What can't you make a profit from if you fund it enough?
  19. Troacctid replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
Oh, well that's great! I'm glad that you made a profit on the stock market whilst casually selling popcorn to your neighbors. :) It's also nice that you can make a profit on farming while spending some money to train slayer as well. But you're still not profiting off the slayer any more than you're profiting off the popcorn. :shame:

What if I tell you I got that money by planting herbs, buying battlestaves, and managing Miscellania every day? Then am I training construction without losing money? The point, which you've missed, is that net gain is irrelevant. Everything is a net gain, because you start with nothing. The only money that matters is what you get from the activity you're comparing. You can't just go and say, "I can train construction without losing money," and when you're asked to prove it, say that all you need to do is kill aviansies in between construction runs. If I were killing avianses between tasks, I would then be killing avianses and using the money to slay. You can do a herb run in such a small amount of time to be practically nonexistent. It's free money, basically. If you're able to fund construction with such a small amount of work, exactly like the methods you described, then you are practically training it for free. You've done little to no work yet you've accumulated a healthy amount of cash. The same concept applies to Slayer. I'm funding my cannon and piety use through methods that subtract very little time from my slaying. They subtract no additional time if you use them to fund anything else. You're still losing the same amount of money as if you hadn't been farming, because you could just as easily have kept the cash from selling the herbs and not spent it on slayer. Look, why don't you just try your calculations or whatever again without factoring in the herbs? #-o If you're really making profit off of slayer, then it won't matter if you take them out. If taking away the herbs leaves you with a loss, then the slayer training is indeed causing you to lose potential profit, which, thanks to the GE, is functionally identical to cash anyway. And anyway, why were you trying to show that slayer makes a profit? Would it be making more profit than armoured zombies? Even if you are making money, slayer is still slower cash and slower xp.

So we completely ignore relevant money making methods that most decent players use, which requires almost zero time for large profit? Am I allowed to ignore other important aspects of gameplay to be right? I guarantee you that 9/10 high level slayers farm herbs for extra profit. It's foolish to ignore that. Also, I must be epic h@x1ng cause I have yet to lose money cannoning. I can't possibly imagine what you're doing wrong, but you have described yourself as slaying casually. That's probably it. You can't include it in the profits of slayer because it is unrelated to slayer. I'd think that would be obvious. I mean, when I started playing, I had 25 gp in my bank. Now I have tens of millions and level 69 in construction. So I made lots of money from construction?
  23. Troacctid replied to compfreak847's topic in Rants
Herb farming can't be counted as profits from slayer. That's profit from farming, completely independent from slayer. You can add it to any type of combat training and receive the exact same increase in profit, so it cancels out in the comparison.
  24. If it was just improving xp/hour, they wouldn't bother with a minigame--they could just double the slayer xp gained from each kill. There's a big difference between playing a minigame and "staying in one spot forever." How many minigames let you play them without moving around? Castle Wars, Stealing Creation, Barrows, Clan Wars, and Pest Control all revolve around moving from one place to another. You can't very well win at Castle Wars if nobody on your team bothers to leave your castle to get the enemy flag. If PvP combat and tactics are a significant part of SW, it's likely it will require more skill and more effort than traditional slayer. Okay, I don't know how the minigame is going to work, but neither do you, so my guess is as good as yours, no? We do know, however, that it will have slayer monsters in it. That seems good enough for me to consider it worthy of giving slayer experience rewards.
  25. Well I wouldn't need to check if my skills necklace was charged or not, because if it was uncharged it would be stacked with the other uncharged ones in a different bank slot. I won't stand firmly by the 5 minutes, because I only got it in the first place by glancing at the timer of my spirit terrorbird on those occasions where I had it out already before I started the run. But it's definitely plausible to expect a similar time.
