  1. Yes, Turmoil would be more useful.
  2. You mean this? Zarfot's theory is flawed. He says that since strength helps when you hit and attack helps when you don't, then if you hit more often than you miss, strength bonus is more important. But the mistake here is that the benefit you gain by hitting where you would have missed is much better than a small increase in your average damage when you do hit. If you hit 8/10 times and do 60 damage/hit, it's not as good as hitting 9/10 times and dealing 55 damage/hit. Qeltar did some actual testing of the zerker vs. warrior rings. Based on his findings, I think the onyx ring (i) is preferable for a high-defense monster like steel dragons, although what you really should be using is a Ferocious Ring. (Probably not worth doing steel tasks without one.)
  3. Rule of thumb is that +4 strength = +10 max hit. So +8 strength should be +20 max hit, before taking into account slayer helm and prayer.
  4. ^ This. The sooner you do a quest, the more you benefit from it. And you're practically guaranteed to do them eventually anyway if you plan on playing your account for any significant amount of time. Do the quests.
  5. Well, I posted a blog entry detailing my reaction to these guys. Basically, I'm cautious because they have a lot to live up to, but there's definitely potential for great things. I'll cross-post it to this thread:
  6. I've always been a fan of team quests. Not Shield of Arrav and Heroes Quest--those were a pain in the neck. I mean the quests like Swan Song, My Arm's Big Adventure, and Dream Mentor, where we get to work alongside NPC versions of heroes like ourselves. Zanik, My Arm, Cyrisus, and the Wise Old Man all made it onto my Top 10 Quests back when I first wrote the list. (As an aside, if I were writing it again, I'd probably add the Temple at Senntisten someplace towards the front. I liked that one a lot.) As it turns out, I'm not the only one who's a fan of Cyrisus et al. They're popular enough that Jagex is catching on, and apparently the future will herald a whole new batch of NPC allies with which we'll share some of our adventures--so they've announced in this dev blog posted on Tuesday. "Signature heroes" in dungeoneering garb. From left to right: Ariane, Sir Ewain, Ozan. On the one hand, this is awesome! Not only is there a new Wise Old Man quest coming up next week, but eventually we'll have a whole new crop of fellow adventurers that will hopefully be just as cool as Zanik and Cyrisus are/were! On the other hand, what if they aren't that cool? Xenia's supposed to be the first of these "signature heroes," and she's hardly awesome at all! She's more like the person who sends you on the quest in the first place. Y'know, like Sir Tiffy Cashien or something. And who likes Sir Tiffy Cashien? He's not awesome at all. At least, I've never seen him doing anything awesome. As far as I can tell, all he ever does is lounge around on a park bench like some panhandling bum. Get a job! I think the signature heroes are a fine idea, but they won't work without good writing. Like, dialogue that's actually good. Seriously. And they need to do things that players do--that's a big part of the charm. My Arm plays Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup, farms herbs, and gets random events. Zanik collects Tears of Guthix. Cyrisus had a bank full of Barrows armor, magic logs, and ranarrs. The Wise Old Man casts Saradomin Strike, wears a party hat, and solos the Kalphite Queen. They do the stuff that we do. And we do it with them. They're just NPC versions of us. The whole "painting the fourth wall" bit is a big part of what makes these characters so charming. Xenia doesn't quite have that charm for me. I hope Sir Ewain and the rest will do better! :^_^: Behind the Scenes: July Also this week, our July installment of Behind the Scenes! I haven't blogged about it, but I'm happy to see the return of Behind the Scenes. The theory was that it would be nice for updates to be a surprise, and the quality of updates would improve without the pressure of the deadline. Neither of those panned out the way we hoped, so it's great to be able to discuss and speculate about the month's updates in advance again. As I just got through saying, the Wise Old Man is awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed Swan Song, so I'm definitely pumped for a sequel. Quests are great, and this one looks promising! I expect I'll be ready with a review of it on the week of release to discuss it in detail. For now, I have high expectations. Next on the list, we have our Dungeoneering Batch 1.5 scheduled for the middle of the month. Again, I have high expectations for all the new features described. You can just go down that list of everything they talked about and put a  after everything and there's my reaction. Class-based bonuses are a great idea. Specialization seems like an excellent way to subtly encourage strategy, diversity, and teamwork. Rewards outside of Daemonheim are exactly what the skill needs most right now. I said before that with some good upgrades, Dungeoneering has the potential to easily be one of my favorite skills. I have high hopes in this regard for the middle of July. Expect another review from me the week of release. Finally, towards the end of July we'll be getting an update to clue scrolls! They certainly need it. As it stands, I never do clue scrolls. It's just not worth the effort for a few firelighters and some addy or rune garbage. But I'm apprehensive about adding new rewards because of the effect on the economy. Do we really need a whole new batch of super-rare items for merchants to use as anti-junk? The GE price restrictions will make it a nightmare to trade these new items no matter how the initial prices are set. Then what we'll have is a whole set of awesome, shiny new items that we can never buy. And then I'll feel bad about fighting in my Proselyte instead of souped-up 3rd-Age armor with the same prayer bonus but twice the defense...or crap like that. On the bright side, even though the price restrictions suck, at least clue scrolls won't be worthless anymore. In fact, with guaranteed unique rewards for every treasure trail, even I might start doing clue scrolls. Investment tip: stock up on clue scroll items ahead of time. I imagine rune warhammers and pointy blue snelms will be selling like hotcakes the first week. Runescape Wiki has a complete list, so make sure you know which ones you can buy from shops and which ones will leave you desperately searching for a trade partner! That's all I've got for you this week. 'Til next time, folks!
  7. No. Lots of big bones and babydragon bones though.
  8. I'd argue that Miscellania is better.
  9. Warped tortoises can only be assigned after completion of Path of Glouphrie, so you can hold off on finishing that quest for a while. I think you can do it partway and still upgrade your spirit trees without unlocking the task. I think. You don't need to block Aquanites because Kuradal doesn't assign them. Steel dragons are definitely a good task to block, though, and I'll support you on kalphites as well. I'm more ambivalent on the living rocks as they're pretty good combat xp and you can make good money off them too, but it's a defensible choice: their charms are mediocre and the tasks are pretty long. Bloodvelds or suqahs would be good blocks for you as well. Both of them are money drains and poor charm droppers.
  10. Just because something turns a profit doesn't mean it's a moneymaker. You make profit working on the banana plantation at Musa Point, but it's not a real moneymaker. That's more what I was trying to say there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy fishing and woodcutting as much as the next guy. Probably a lot more than the next guy--I didn't get 38m combined xp in both skills for nothing, and I don't regret it. But even a gathering freak like me has to admit that it's horrible for profit. I made about twice as much money off 99 cooking than from 99 woodcutting and fishing combined, and it was faster too. (Although to be fair, I did only make 6m from 99 fishing. Heavy rod ftw.)
  11. Kalphites?
  12. Cockroaches aren't weak enough to a specific attack style that it makes a noticeable difference, so just use your best weapon--rune scimmy for F2P, abyssal whip for P2P.
  13. I only know them from Guitar Hero 4. I'm not a big fan of their music, but the three songs they have in the game are like the only ones that are interesting for the bass player, haha.
  14. I can't comment on the profit, but they definitely won't be good xp because you'll be restricted to suboptimal gear.
  15. Frequent charm drops with a crimson bias, two at a time. They're definitely one of the more efficient tasks for charms, especially if you Piety them, and you can make some decent profit off the bones (although the rest of the droplist is pretty bad). Your exact block list is obviously going to depend on preference, but if you're going for 99 summoning in the long term you'll definitely want to skew your preferences toward charm drops. If I recall correctly, the best charm droppers on Kuradal's list are waterfiends, nechs, wyverns, dusties, black demons, Chaos Tunnel dagannoths, and greater demons. I think. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
  16. If you're doing slayer, make sure your block list is optimized for charm drops. Don't go blocking Skeletal Wyverns, for example.
  17. Nope, you hardly get any bonus sharks at 76 agility, and no matter what your agility level you'll never get any decent xp.
  18. You can't really make any money woodcutting...it's not much of a moneymaking skill. At 99 woodcutting you make slightly less profit than you'd get from picking flax in Seers' Village. So yeah. Fishing isn't very good for money either. It's pretty sad even at its best--rocktails max in the 250k gp/hr range. Slightly better--this time it's comparable to gathering swamp toads or making oak planks with Varrock teletabs. The fact that you associate fishing and woodcutting with making money at all is a sign that you really need to lower your expectations if you plan on getting them to 99, because there will be level 3's out there with literally no skill levels and no quests who will be tanning d'hides or something, and they'll be making twice the gp/hr you'll be getting at rocktails.
  19. You could use Rogue Boots. They have range defense.
  20. F2P and P2P bank spaces are separated now. Member items no longer count towards F2P bankspace once you're a nonmember. However, if you have more than 68 F2P items stored, then you will be unable to deposit new items. If you want, you can stock up on two of everything you might need as a free player and just leave them as placeholders forever--that way, you'll effectively have as many bank spaces as you want so long as you don't withdraw all of something. Otherwise, you can just make sure you have fewer than 68 F2P items in your bank, but there's no rush for that, since you can do it just as well after you lose your subscription.
  21. Pretty sure the shotput is faster with infinite run from the Oo'glog sal[bleep]er spring.
  22. Similarly, killing mithril dragons would be 2.1b+ gp/hr if you got a visage + d full every kill. But that's not happening, is it?
  23. Yeah, it's something you probably wouldn't notice with herbs.
  24. The beer is called Bandit's Brew. Magpie scrolls give a +4 boost as well.
  25. It teleports you to Miscellinia? It gets you to the bush patch faster if you used the fairy ring to teleport there.
