I don't know why you believe I am [developmentally delayed] good sir, I immensely enjoyed the time I spent writing this [cabbage] and, unlike your excessive use of brackets, I feel it highlighted a multitude of important points. Maybe there is hope! 8-)

Good afternoon, Tip.it. Today my highly important and relevant rant is in regards several highly detrimental, important, and relevant flaws concerning the hunting of carnivorous chinchompas. These critters are also known as red chinchompas and, within some circles, "red chins". First, I would like to comment on the option that allows you to "Attack" carnivorous chinchompas. Naturally, this engenders the issue of semantic blockage manifest in the fact that it is very easy to click on the carnivorous chinchompa, and thus attacking it as the default option, instead of clicking to set or pick up box traps. Anyone who has hunted carnivorous chinchompas is surely aware of this phenomenon. A hunter loses hundreds of GP, a chunk of hunting experience, and ultimately a bit of time as well every time this happens. After several hours on end of carnivorous chinchompa hunting, I believe it is only to be expected that players will start making their share of misclicks. I do not see why we should be penalized for Jagexs blatant shortsightedness, ignorance, hubris, and hamartia when it comes to designing hunting NPCs. Honestly, what point is there to actually attacking a carnivorous chinchompa? Oh boy, 4 exp! It almost makes me forget they nerfed Pest Control, the purest combat training form of all, so long ago! Thanks, Andrew Grower!1!! With that said, I am not ranting about the ability to attack carnivorous chinchompas. The ability to watch a carnivorous chinchompa die a horrible, fiery orange, pixelated death by virtue of your own fist, foot, or weapon is actually one of the most relaxing activities one can currently partake in on RuneScape. If cleanliness is next to godliness, random acts of violence against un-captured carnivorous chinchompas is not far behind. This phenomenon may only be a product of the frustration produced by being able to attack carnivorous chinchompas in the first place, but nevertheless it is quite nice. With that said, attacking carnivorous chinchompas is not the most entertaining thing one can do with them while hunting. Rather, this Mecca of RuneScape zen lies in the territory of throwing freshly captured carnivorous chinchompas at their wild counterparts. I need you to stop reading this and think about this for a second: one-hitting a random carnivorous chinchompa and watching the subsequent ball of fire envelope a small part of the screen is undoubtedly the best feeling in the world, bar none. Now, imagine doing that WITH a carnivorous chinchompa as your weapon. Yes. Youve got twice the explosions, plus the drama and intrinsic wonder of that carnivorous chinchompa flying through the air and cutting through the wind, often defying gravity, on the way to its noble and pyrotechnic demise. This glorious conflagration, of course, has only gotten exponentially better after the release of RunEscape HD. I once saw a video on Youtube depicting the catastrophic results of two Falcon Punches colliding; after just once instance of one-hitting a carnivorous chinchompa with a carnivorous chinchompa, I knew that video was a waste of my time. In conclusion, I am extremely angsty over the fact that I am required to entertain myself in RuneScape by killing carnivorous chinchompas, and not other players. As enjoyable as carnivorous chinchompa killing is, it will never compare to player killing. Now, I know that youre probably thinking that this is just another one of those generic wilderness rants. Well, if thats what you think, you clearly do not realize the gravity of this situation; this one is extremely different from all the others! Casually dismissing this rant is tantamount to submerging yourself in a bottomless pit of semantic blockage. I dont care about Jagexs totalitarian, fascist business losing money due to credit card fraud, the legal stigma of being a gold mine for extremely shady international exploitation operations, or any other forms of malarkey. They are still royal fools and deserve to be taken outside and smacked around a bit by the psychosemantic division of the secret police of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. You know the rules, and so do I when it comes to ranting, Im fully entitled to my opinion because, as heroic RuneScape protesters have so sagely said before, "WE PAY WE SAY". So, discuss why did Jagex remove the wilderness. WE PAY WE SAY AMIRITE? _________________ Proud Comrade ~~ Proud former leader of CF

One of the first things I read on the Clan forum back on the original Scapeboard - this was before I even started clanning - was a topic giving very general & basic guidelines on how to start and run a clan. I believe that such a topic would not be appropriate for today's clans, given the great diversity amongst their styles and philosophies, but one thing that I haven't seen much of on these forums is a place for help & advice. There are complete forums for help & advice associated with RS in general and also with PVP, but I think even a help & advice topic would be a nice addition for the clan forum. You could argue that posting questions in the "Discussion" section would be fine, but I think it would encourage people to be more open with their queries if a designated thread were to be provided for clan help & advice. Many of the clans here aren't rank-and-file warring machines like those which dominate the clan forums of other fansites; as a result I believe a single place for the exchange of diverse ideas and advice for clanners of any level of experience would benefit everyone and foster greater activity and interest in this section of the TIF.

Exactly what I was thinking - with the wilderness long gone they need stable new media to entice people to start playing, keep playing, and ultimately upgrade to p2p. Would you guys drop this already? Seriously. It's 9 months later, this is starting to be ridiculously pathetic. Any company, any video game wants MORE PLAYERS, despite any updates or players quitting or players coming into the game. I do believe that is why they update the game. In general. This topic takes into account the fact that seemingly more content is being released for f2p, it's not about updates in general. Regarding my idea, I took into account the current context of RS - including (but not limited to) things such as the timing of these updates and the atmosphere of post-wilderness RS. Fist of Guthix and the Runecrafting Guild are arguably the first two decent, non-essential updates provided to f2p since, heck, probably before the release of rs2. Obviously they'll always be trying to gain more players; I wasn't suggesting that Jagex is trying to directly replace the revenue stream lost by people quitting due to the removal of the wilderness, but rather that they are trying to restructure that certain "I'll go here for a change of pace" niche that the wilderness provided for those players who wanted to break the monotony of f2p. Even the new achievement diary fits in along the lines of "something interesting to do". Both of the updates I am specifically talking about (FoG & RC Guild) incorporate player-versus-player minigames; I don't think it's too far of a stretch to at least conceive the idea that these updates are intended as partial surrogates for the wilderness in terms of a "change of pace" experience amongst f2pers. I'm not saying that Jagex would ever think that these updates are sufficient to replace the wilderness, either: they're simply a replacement for the resource the wilderness provided players as a (possibly) exciting alternative to skilling. Jagex simply trying to diversify their f2p offerings is a reasonable explanation, yes, but it doesn't take into account the relatively short time span in which many of these updates have been implemented. Jagex has historically been very frugal in doling out updates to f2p, so I cannot write this off as a random act of concentrated benevolence towards f2p from Jagex.

Do you happen to have a link to a mod or someone confirming #10? I've heard talk about this but I can't see how it would be possible, as it would completely undo all the anti-RWT measures they've taken. I tried looking on the thread on the RSOF that you mentioned but all I could find was people flaming the update and telling Jagex how pitiful they are (which I found hilarious, because they're obviously still paying $5 a month if they can post on the forums!) :P

Grats Gladz. Allowing ranged in miniwars can be a pretty big "x-factor" I think, I like it. :D

It can be frustrating for mature people to not be able to effectively communicate some ideas in RS, yes, but no matter what Jagex does to try and keep younger players out of a hypothetical adult-only world, they're going to get in. More likely than not they'll constantly spew out all kinds of garbage due to their new found verbal freedom. As a result I just can't see this being implemented. :|

Bounty Hunter - Huge Mistake On Behalf Of Jagex?
elit9 replied to sirgudi's topic in General Discussion
As several people have pointed out, the BH/balanced trade/etc. updates were really meant to target only the things that were causing financial strain on Jagex - gold farmers using stolen credit cards AND requiring massive amounts of customer support to combat the RWT'ers and issue all the bans that were necessary. Defeating gold farmers that utilized the practice of botting & using stolen cards was the primary objective of BH & related updates, and it was a resounding success. If you look at current gold farming sites other than the one you've provided as an example, most of them require you to give them your RSN & password so they can log directly onto your account to farm the gold for you. This alone tells me that RWT is never going to be at the levels it once was, since it is neither rapid nor secure for the buyer. It also tells me that BH sufficiently delays account-to-account transfers (ie., letting the buyer kill the seller's account with valuable items in its inventory), which was the point of implementing BH. Have you ever tried splitting a drop from god wars and then "transferring" the profits in BH due to not using/not having coinshare? In case you didn't know, it's more difficult than just clicking on someone and selecting "trade"; gold farmers who try to transfer from account-to-account are slowed down in the same way. RWT is not nearly at the levels it once was, and neither is the financial distress on Jagex resulting from said practices. The premise of your thread was that RWT is still thriving in the same manner it once was, which is simply not true; completely disregarding the magnitude (which is difficult to measure or estimate though I'd bet anything less gold is traded now than was a year ago), the mannerisms are at least different, and (to Jagex) that is a key component. RWT WAS COSTING JAGEX MONEY. THEY TOOK ACTION TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T COST THEM MONEY ANYMORE; IF RWT IS STILL HAPPENING JAGEX REALLY DOESN'T CARE AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T COST THEM. JAGEX IS A BUSINESS. -
They don't have more BH worlds/craters because that would facilitate easier RWT; however, I think that if they were to add a few more level divisions (maybe at least split 55-100 into two craters), all the craters would still be very full most of the time, like they are now. We've just got to live with what they give us, though. :|

8 Aug. 08 - Wallie Subscriptions and 22 New Runescape Worlds
elit9 replied to Beethovens29's topic in General Discussion
Anyone else remember a while ago when Portuguese was said to be the next language RS will be translated into? Given that, I'm kind of surprised they gave Brazil only one world. -
I don't have any black marks so I don't really know how it works, but what is the point to decreasing black marks? They're meant to deter one from future instances of rule-breaking; if Jagex were to subtract them for reporting people (something that I think is done quite commonly anyway, as there is no shortage of wannabe p-mods in RS), that would just give rule breakers additional leeway to continue breaking the rules! Just stop doing bad things, and you won't need to worry about ever reaching the magic number of 10 black marks.

Looking at the clans in the tournament I think there really were only a couple with a legit shot at winning/advancing far, so I agree that that is something that should be addressed for next time. I think the CWPL became more or less of a fiasco as it progressed, though, with its officials going inactive towards the back end of it and so many clans opting to drop out. Granted, it's not a fact that a tip.it version would go the same exact way, and there are fairly distinct strata amongst tip.it clans in which they could be classified; however, I don't know how it can be effectively emulated while simultaneously making it run more smoothly than the original. I'd personally be in favor of individual tournaments based on levels, as they don't require nearly as much effort from clan leaders & tourney officials to organize and are much more cut-and-dry. Plus, clans would be able to choose their own categories, rather than have divisions assigned to them, and clans with a diverse assortment of levels could compete in multiple tournaments.

Grats Gladz + The; I don't care what everyone else thinks, I actually like 2 on 2 fights. Allied wars and Germs22 victory posts are easily among the greatest things in the clan world.

2Mighty vs. UBH - Finale Tourney Round. 2Mighty wins (h)
elit9 replied to Rastekkel's topic in Wars & Run-Ins
Great win 2M! Finishing with over three quarters of your opts despite being fairly heavily outnumbered is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations on winning the tournament. -
I don't think a FA system is an absolute necessity for a successful combat-based clan, but in my opinion such systems are definitely worth it. As others have said, it allows those who don't quite yet meet the reqs to become acquainted with the clan's community, atmosphere, and structure well before joining; as a result, if they do choose to join, they can truly hit the ground running. I think the "wait" associated with FA systems is actually a good thing, as it helps to weed out those who really aren't interested in the clan and/or active in RS. If a clan is going to cater to people who don't yet meet the reqs, the least those people could do is set themselves on a course to be active, contributing members - an efficient FA system ensures that those types of people benefit while those who are UNWORTHY(!) are systematically filtered out.
-
I can still use RSC. I'm an avid clan person but you're wrong, the vast majority of RS doesn't care about them. Everything else you said is cliche, please x out.

I agree with the above 2 posts - to me, it's one thing to let a few things slip during the course of natural speech, but watching a bunch of immature and/or classless people constantly spewing out a torrent of cusses just because it's the k00l thing to do is annoying. The new "Under 13" stuff Jagex has implemented MAY be interpreted as a step towards an optional filter, but I personally don't think we will see one. Being able to curse just isn't that big of a deal to me I guess.

RWT is back and strong. How to combat it now?
elit9 replied to eatrunearrow's topic in General Discussion
This is also my sentiment regarding Jagex's POV. I'd like to point out something else as well, though: the new emerging form of gold farming (paying someone to log onto your account and earn gp for you) does NOT impact Jagex's profits, aside from the possibility of losing membership fees due to banning accounts. This method does NOT invoke bank refund fees or inordinate amounts of customer service dedicated to fighting RWT, which are the two chief problems that plagued Jagex (from a business standpoint) prior to their sweeping anti-RWT measures. In this situation, Jagex is the only entity which has the power to harm profits (by banning accounts), so the company is in quite a conundrum - knowingly allow illegal activities to occur, or lose money by punishing those offenders? Regarding the topic title, RWT never went away and it's only marginally strong. I don't believe it compares at all to the levels it was at prior to Jagex's anti-RWT measures. If it ever does become that prevalent again, it will mean that gold farmers have found a more profitable method than directly logging onto players' accounts and, I'd be willing to bet, it will again adversely affect Jagex's profits. At that time we will see action from Jagex due to monetary motivations, but until that breaking point, we're all just going to have to live with it; the simple truth is that Jagex has no choice but to tolerate RWT to some extent. -
The alch prices are constant; they do not fluctuate with the GE. As for what's best to alch, it depends on which items are (somewhat) readily available on the GE for an amount less than the gold received from alching minus the cost of nats. I no longer actively play RS and haven't alched in a while so I can't help you there, but be sure to keep your eyes open - I think it's best to try and look for these sorts of items yourself. Items that fit this criteria might have a low price only due to the fact few people know that they can turn a profit while alching that item, so if you can jump in before everyone else, you'll have an advantage.

but i dnt think there were even 45 entries lol Hehe, we'll see if they say how many there was when they are finished looking at all entries. With all the people who've apparently sent in over 6 ranks, I wouldn't be surprised if there are only 45 legal ones! Submitted my entry a couple of hours ago, good luck everyone. 8-)

I've never been able to effectively no life (I just can't sit there doing the same exact thing for ours on end, to me it's a huge mental strain) but I wouldn't exactly say it's "wrong". It's your own decision as to how much time you want to devote to a game, and I don't think it's right to rush to judge a person based solely on how they appear to divide their daily allotment of 24 hours. There certainly are limits regarding how much no lifing is reasonable or healthy, but that's for the person doing the no-lifing to worry about, not me.

Unfortunately I think everyone's been spammed at least a few times, if only by bots. Those graphic pron ones were pretty prevalent on clan forums a few months back. My previous clan had IPB forums so my leaders were able to implement a script in the registration process, I believe, to stop most of those bots. As for human spammers, usually it's just a one-time event of idiocy propagated by a disgruntled ex-member, hater, or combination of those two. Even if it's still an isolated occurrence, though, it's unfortunate you have to lose a good half hour or so of your own time to clean up that garbage.

It depends on what you're looking for, but if you're going to be training for hours on end & want to pay minimal attention to RS, you can't go wrong with bandits. They tend to be crowded, though.
