  1. No, talking in RS isn't a *privilege, it's a right (the opposite of the usual saying). It is a right given to you when you create your RS account; if it were a privilege you'd have to do something or other to earn it. While it is a right, you can't use that fact to defend illegal behavior such as using offensive language (or other text-related abuses). It's just like something you will learn in any basic government class in America (and maybe a lot of other countries too, but I don't know) - the right to free speech is protected by the first amendment, but the amendment will NOT protect illegal activities under the umbrella of "free speech". For example, claiming defense under the first amendment after, say, calling in bomb threats is not going to work. In real life, you'd go to jail for breaking the law. In RS, "breaking the law" earns you a mute as punishment instead (or with enough offenses, I suppose, the RS death penalty - a ban). You could argue that a mute effectively takes away your rights, but the reason for muting as punishment is the fact that there really aren't any other effective deterrents short of a ban.
  2. It's "bad" because it doesn't let your opponent KO you. Realistically, safing isn't even nearly in the same league as practices like running, pjing, or tagging; the reason it's "bad" is simply the fact that safing means that your opponent needs to actually stand there and fight you. Granted, if you wind up eating every time you get below 3/4 HP, you won't ever have a chance to actually attack your opponent, so you're basically just taking damage/wasting food. That would be a downside of safing (the other downside being those vicious internet insults you will receive), but that is another story.
  3. Omg it's Gith! I don't really see how this is relevant anymore, seeing as it pertains to the multi combat/pkri facet of BH - we all know what happened to that. The points are legit but they are much more applicable to pking in general now, rather than to clans IMO.
  4. What!? How dare you blame it on a cat!

    A real test.

What? Of course people would choose the one with the wild, no trade limit, etc. There's a difference, though, between what you want and what is possible. Your "RS3" thing cannot happen, regardless of what people desire. Why is that hard to understand? Also, in your last line where you called people idiots, you spelled "suffer" wrong.
  6. How does any of this relate to some sort of "business plan"?? A company's business plan involves their models for invoking growth and increasing revenue; the only point you bring up that might be related to that is the customer service bit, but heck are there really that many businesses in the entire world that leave people giddy over their customer service? I couldn't agree more with your statement of "it's not about what is best for the players or what is best for you. It's solely about money". That explains why a filter is in place in the first place - I can guarantee you that the older/more mature population of the game has a lower tolerance for a bunch of people running around spouting off whatever naughty words cross their minds than those purveyors of pottymouthiness have for being censored. In other words, Jagex stands to lose more players due to not having a filter than due to having one, since (in my opinion) older/more mature players don't feel like looking at all that stuff all day while 'scaping. I know I wouldn't. That picture from the forums only shows that they like to try and keep the boards clean and consolidated, and not much else. The entire rants forum would be inundated with stuff about the filter if it wasn't condensed into a single topic. 13k posts isn't even that big of a number compared to the entire RS p2p population, and it's not like Jagex is somehow obliged to listen to rants. A censor that can be turned on or off by the player? That would raise potential issues with parents. Either way, though, I don't believe the inclusion of the filter has any sort of negative impact at all on Jagex's bottom line (their income, in other words), which this thread is supposedly about. I don't play WoW, but I believe that in order to combat bots they use a separate program that must be installed on a player's computer with the actual WoW program. I don't know much more about that, other than hearing that some have called it spyware. Either way, though, you need to realize that RS and WoW are fundamentally different. The "business model" of RS is entirely predicated on RS being a cheap, simple game (compared to WoW, etc.) that can be played in one's browser with no additional software required. Including an anti-bot program would completely buck the strategy RS has been built on for years now; this is much too radical of a change, especially considering just how successful RS has been with their current no-additional-software strategy. Emulating Blizzard's system simply makes zero sense for Jagex. Sure, maybe Jagex customer service needs a lesson in tact, but what are they supposed to say? It's almost cliche at this point to explain why the wilderness is never coming back, so any queries about it pretty much are spam. Jagex customer service is lacking, I will admit that. Of your three main points, this one is the only reason for which I have ever seen any of my friends quit RS. However, as I said above, unfortunately the sheer nature of customer service usually leaves the customers disappointed. This is especially true when the poor CS people are dealing with thousands of queries about things like the wilderness every day! That is just one of the fact of life, or at least it is more so than a poor business choice on the part of Jagex.
  7. I'm not a big quester and dislike all quests equally, but it looks like this one was especially "Inconvenient"! :D
  8. This should probably be in Graveyard Help & Advice. But... Strictly speaking, no, it's not multi. However, you can be attacked at any time by whomever is targeting you, even if you're already engaged in battle.
  9. I've never used anything other than SubSilver, and frankly after being around it for the better part of 5 years you start to miss it. TIF just looks kinda naked without it. I would love to see it as an option here.
  10. It was an ok read. When I led a clan some guy I'd never met before came up to me in Fally w2 and knew who I was...I won't lie, it felt good. :D I don't think (most of the) people who gain fame like that, or by having high levels, or by posting good stuff on tip.it, etc., are intentionally going out and doing this stuff for the sake of fame. Any so-called fame is more like a byproduct which comes whether you like it or not. That said, I do know people who will go out of their way to make their name known to as many 'Scapers as possible. In my opinion this is utterly pointless, since making sure thousands of random people know your RSN really doesn't accomplish much at the end of the day. I'd have to say that people who try to be famous in RS do it because they falsely believe it'll benefit them somehow. They'd rather be famous just for the sake of it instead of because they submit guides to tip.it or whatever. I believe most people who choose to make positive contributions to the community don't do it for fame or recognition, but just because it's a nice thing to do. Sorry but I lol'd at the censor owning the expression you tried to use.
  11. It's not that surprising, considering Cor's organization & returning ability are leagues better than those of ME. Nevertheless, gj Cor.
  12. Don't think many top clans will care about GP prizes. I don't know about RSB clans, but most other clans fight for honor, or in some cases, less honor. Most clans won't care, but I can see Jagex putting something like that in just for the sake of doing so. In fact, I'd be surprised if they didn't integrate some kind of reward into it, seeing as it's common in their other pvp minigames (see fight pits, dueling tournament, castle wars, etc). My guess is that they'll make it so that you keep your armor if you die, in the interest of controlling gp sellers (which is becoming a common theme it seems) and keeping newbs from losing items due to a lack of common sense (another common measure taken by Jagex nowadays). They'll reason that some cheap gp reward will suffice instead; that, of course, will be totally false but they'll do it anyway. Most clans don't fight just for the loot but making it so you don't even lose items after a death in a war is just stupid and is going to change the entire fabric of clan warring, if this turns out to be the case. Fortunately, that entire scenario is just speculation at this point.
  13. There are lots of stupid/ignorant people over the age of eight. It's called life, unfortunately.
  14. Agreed about DF being substantially better right now but I'd have to say that "in terms of solid stability and general community" Cor is stronger, seeing as DF has only become really good (ie the #1 clan, not saying they weren't good before) since they gained a lot of ex-DS members. Not to mention the fact Cor has been around much, much longer. Oh, and I especially agree with your edit.

    Clan Chat

Why do you think the name of your clan chat is so important? If people in your clan need to be reminded what their clan's name is via the chat, you my friend have much bigger issues to attend to. If your clan name is too long, it's going to take up too much room in the chat dialogue box, and everyone's text is going to get cut off. That's why they imposed a limit on the number of characters you can use. I guess Jagex assumed a measure to prevent messages from getting cut off was a good tradeoff for limited clan name space, considering the actual name of the clan shouldn't be imperative to the chat feature.
  16. I have no idea what this is about but Shaz is my bff, grats babe.
  17. Sorry to say this but IDK what the point of this post is. People either love pure clans (most likely because they're involved with them) or they hate 'em (everyone else). Your reputations are always going to be tarnished by those groups/teams/clans/whatevers of lvl 40 pures that mass up wearing chefs hats, aprons, etc. and go loot wars. The sad reality is, that's what people think of when they hear "pure clan" since those guys are annoying as hell and are the only direct exposure most people (in main clans) receive to pure clans.
  18. At the very least, this may prevent the crashing of p2p wars. It will be interesting to see if more people open up to p2p warring, since the threat of looters/crashers will be defeated by this update. Other than that, obviously there will be no effect on f2p fights. Planned p2p run-in's, which are rare anyway, will probably become non-existent as people will forego them to fight miniwars in the arena instead.
  19. I don't think my clan is going, but if I'm bored I might go up and fight for someone. I'll probably just look for people I know and kill them, the entire thing is basically a big BS fest since no one really knows who is on their team anyway lol.
  20. Ignoring the problem does not make it any less of a problem. I was trying to be humorous, but unfortunately I forgot that the internet is serious business. The lack of a sky has just never bothered me I guess.
  21. It's true that you cannot, but rs doesn't let you cast alchemy spells in the CW arena anyway. People used to abuse CW as a place to just chill and alch, and as a result teams would sometimes have a bunch of people just sitting in the team's safe room just alching and not playing CW at all. It sucked.
  22. Orange salamanders until lvl 63, and then red chinchompas from there on out. You can catch red salamanders at 59 but from experience I'd say oranges are faster & better exp.
  23. Metal dragons are a bit risky since you run the risk of dying, but their drops (d legs/skirt, visage, clues (?)) can make them an exciting npc to kill. It can be a nice change of pace. Chaos bolts (with the gauntlets) are sufficient to kill them efficiently, too.
  24. Play RS with the screen set to a high camera angle and you don't need to worry about the sky. :D
