  1. It's not as difficult as you make it out to be. There's utility libraries out there that alleviate nearly all the cross platform headaches (e.g., SDL, Allegro5, and SFML are three big ones). Furthermore, if they stuck to one standard (OpenGL) there would be no need to write much cross platform code because of cross-platform support libraries. Take for example my C# game engine that I'm developing. I am one person, but have managed to put together a rendering engine far more advanced than RuneScape's current one. And guess what? It runs on Linux and Windows (and surely Mac OS X but I don't have a Mac to check it on). I reiterate: with proper coding practices, cross platform games are not nearly as difficult to develop. The hard part is catering to all kinds of hardware, and driver bugs--but that's something that you have to do anyway.
  2. The sad bit is they have custom C/C++ interop code for their current Java client. RuneScape has not been "100%" Java for a long time now. It would not be but a step further to write the client in C++. Honestly, it's not as difficult for a large organization to do as they want you to believe.
  3. If they ever said it was going to utilize the CPU less, then they lied obviously. Java is more efficient as a language than any form of JavaScript engine. Even IE10, which through my own tests features one of the fastest JavaScript interpreters, still does not compare to the Java JIT engine. As Hedge said, utilizing C++ would have been the best route, but alas portability is "more difficult." In truth, it's not really--my own game engine runs on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows easily, even though it's written in C#. And that language is (largely) a Windows-environment language. C++ is much more portable in that sense, with favorable support on any platform produced in the past 20 years (this includes embedded ones, such as game consoles).
  4. I can't check, but maybe Nex's room is below the eyrie? And so that gap could let Nex out if it wasn't bound. Meh, probably wrong.
  5. I'm slightly envious. :P Congrats!
  6. I can't stand racists, bigots, homophobes, and hypocrites. Their very existence causes me to shiver constantly, creating a perpetual motion fueled by annoyance.

Really? They're really doing that? I thought we outgrew backwards compatibility issues when consoles graduated from cartridges to discs. What possible bs reason can there possibly be for this? Why do we put up with this from console gaming anyway? We wouldn't have put up with it movie players, so why do game systems get away with it? Gah! I need to have a smoke and calm down... Technically speaking, the PS3 and PS4 are totally different computing architectures. One is based on the Cell architecture which is similar to PowerPC, while the other is based on the x86-64 architecture. They're entirely incompatible, like in ye olde days when you couldn't run Mac OS on a PC.
  8. I now live in hope of getting a second 3A item myself, having believed it to be impossible ditto even if it was third age vambraces or something Did someone say ditto? RS goal for a while now: Now if only I could go back in time and exchange it...
  9. My favorite is Azzanadra by a slight bit. Sliske surely comes in second though. Azzanadra is surely a good ally, but Sliske is such a BAMF... So it's a difficult choice!
  10. Perhaps the morale crewman mutinied against your captain. In doing so, he became the new captain, but subsequently died. Thus your original captain was saved.
  11. No, I believe it worked.
  12. Money has always been easy to make, but moaning about moneymaking has just been that much easier. I don't disagree with that. I just don't like inflated numbers :P (which, in the case of the QBD, I was wrong about, evidently).
  13. But is the average drop 250k? I'm pretty sure it's not.
  14. I would like to see how you can kill more than 100 glacors an hour to grab upwards of ~5m gross gp/hr. Similarly, if the QBD is worth approximately 200k-250k a kill, how do you kill 20-25 an hour? You pulled those numbers out of your rear and you know it. 3m is the max gross income of these activities.
  15. Yeah, and the consequence of that is that there are doogle leaf scams, and the fact that he can switch out his noted stack of what you think might be one thing for something else in the process of trading, isn't there? Have one of each grimy noted herb you're buying (e.g., ranarr) in your inventory. Fill the rest with junk. There's no way the other player can trade you anything but the noted herbs of choice...
  16. I want them to introduce gambling into the game so there's a glitch some time later that gives 100% chance of winning so people complain a lot more about how gambling hurts RS . On a side note, I'm against gambling in RS outside of "skill based" activities (then it's not so much gambling as it is competing, hmm).
  17. I'm stuck on this too :( [spoiler=So far I figured...]Make the bolder stop ON the first pressurized track... Actually that may not work. But the next time you release one it just resets again... This is such a mind [bleep] [spoiler=maybe!!!]Look right after the conveyor belt. I had a derp moment not noticing that. Yes, rotate the corner at the end of the conveyor belt and you'll be able to guide it in. Not working for me, can you screenshot your current set-up?

  20. Same here. Oh, and system update in 8 minutes (about).
  21. You need a better weapon. Ahrim's wand would be decent, a Virtus more so, but sadly they're very expensive. The grifolic wand is tier 60, which is something like 900 accuracy versus Ahrim's 1500ish versus Virtus's 2400ish. edit: Beaten. This is what you get for leaving the room for a minute on tip.it haha.
  22. Damn you're arrogant. Must you always be so rude? (That's a rhetorical question, for your information. You really are one of the rudest people on this thread.) In any case, your proposition makes no business sense. Pay up for the extra burden that a lack of interest will force or just don't play. Like I said before, it's not a matter of offering one or the other. It's a matter of offering BOTH. 2007scape is an extra burden. It will cost more to run both games in the manner Jagex is doing. Maybe paying your $7 (or whatever current membership is) may be enough if enough people pay. But I'm not Jagex and I don't know their financial record so I can't say. I'm sure they're savvy enough to make the proper decision. But I can speak from experience in maintaining software. If you are forced to support say Windows XP through Windows 8, more money is going to go into making sure the aging Windows XP is taken care of than the modern Windows 7 or 8. Modern games use DirectX 10/11 yet also support XP with its aged DirectX 9. Do you realize how much effort it is to support two architectures that are radically different? I'm assuming not considering you're seriously complaining about a relatively small fee. I'll talk in your language though. Oh boohoo you don't want to support RealScape! That's where Jagex's future is, not with this craptastic adventure called 2007scape. Bla bla repeat myself here. Did I say how Jagex's future is with modern enterprises, not games with worse graphics than Superman 64? Well I said it. They don't lose. They're going to be making money regardless. You're the one who loses by not playing what you want to play. You think Jagex gives one bit about your $7? Not at all.
  23. I guess I wasn't clear. So, 2007scapers like you demand to be able to only play 2007scape at no extra charge (e.g., $5 on top of "RealScape"). Jagex does something "nice" (as far as a company can be nice), and yet you still demand more than what they gave you after they already said "It'll be this way." So basically, you want it YOUR way. So your vote should be tossed out since you don't want to support the costs of aging software. Not only do Jagex have to ensure backwards compatibility with all future communication system (so 2007scape is still integrated into RuneScape and runs properly), they need to actively fix all the bugs they've already fixed that have damaging and game breaking issues. E.g., dueling arena, player-owned houses, quests, etc. Regardless of what YOU think, this costs MORE money than not supporting 2007scape. To go back to the cookie factory analogy, it would be like an old cookie recipe having to be integrated with the current cookie making process. The cookie company goes "yes, we'll let you have it for more if there's not enough interest." You know why? Because it costs MORE to process these cookies. Similarly, if there is enough interest in this old cookie that they could integrate it into the current cookie making process and still make more money, they will.
  24. This is actually a really good idea. From what I understand, a lot of people have come back just to play 07Scape and have no interest in the main game at all. If they don't reach the level to make it one price for both, this, combined with OrTradeMe's idea of a reduced fee for both, would definitely be the way to go to ensure it's longevity. That sums me up, 07Scape is the only reason I came back to RS and started paying Jagex again. If I have to pay for the main game as well then I'll just quit again. Most of my friends are in the same boat. Give someone a cookie and soon they'll demand your entire factory. :boohoo:

I play with my brother, but he's no fun. "Draw a room card." I go get a pen and paper to draw a room card, but he insists it means "draw a room card from the deck." Clearly they left out "from the deck" on purpose...
