a friend is thinking of selling most of his cosmetic items (3a melee, frost mask) and lots of slayer drops to try to get a red. Good idea?

the xp/h sheet has some errors says cooking is 925k/h with rocktail;s? lol wines are about 720k/h and pie baking about 460k if jugs of water are still bought out mining 80k not 70k herblore 730k not 690k agility 72k not 85k although im not sure about the B.A horn calcs so if some1 can clarify ? *pssst xensure* hunter 250k not 140k dungeoneering not quite sure but doubt its 325k Due to the Make all update, you can no longer cook 1 rocktail per tick. Same reason why dbones are slower prayer xp then they used to be for altars when you had to alter each one individually. If you have a maxed perm team who are all willing to move quickly, DG can get 325k per hour at 60 prestige. You already need nearly maxed prestige for this tho. Probably averages much lower due to the vastly lower xp rates for dungoneering at levels under ~110.

Does Free Trade entail No GE Buy limits?
Uhm you really think the biggest problem with germany at 1945 was the restriction on the economy? - Really, you know, they maybe lost a war, and were occupied by the sovjet union, england the us and france? Besides hitler did bring some quite good things to germanies economy (ie: he made sure the average person was able to afford a car etc). After the second world war, germany created their own version of "free market": the "rheinland model", as opposed to the "anglo-saxon model / neo-liberalism". only english source I coudl find. This model actually advocates goverment restrictions, to prevent a few rich people of harming mass of more poor people. (Which in reality are things like public healthcare, high public education, goverment makes sure unemployed have still a perspective etc). In runescape this is in effect by not allowing certain (small) groups of people to not buy out certain items! I assume by saying Germany, you are refering to the Germany located west of the Iron Curtain. West Germany enjoyed considerably more economic freedom then East Germany did, and as time progressed, East Germany became steadily more dependent on loans and cash infusions from West Germany and the western world. Also, I believe I said That pretty much includes every bad economic decision they made. If starting and losing WWII was not a bad economic decision, then I don't know what is. Hitler did take over Germany's government and got them out of massive massive inflation cause by their excessive printing of money to get themselves out of debt after losing WWI. Then he invaded Poland and attempted Genocide against the Jews. He royally messed up Germany by starting and losing WWII. But hey, at least they had dirt cheap cars while their country went down the drain, right? /scarcasm So tell me, was Hitler's coming to power ultimately a good thing or a bad thing? Did Germany end up better off for having him as a leader, or worse? How about the rest of the world? Here, let me tell you the answers. Hitler's rise to power was bad for Germany. He did far more things bad for Germany than he did good for them (losing WWII, Holocaust, 44 years of Germany being split in 2, Bankrupt). And attempted Genocide is never good for anybody. Notice that I never said governments should not have a say in the market. What is bad is when governments have the ONLY say in the market. By looking at the characteristics of the German government pre-WWII, you will notice that they continued to try to control production/trade more and more. East Germany also continued to do this, and the result was the same. You say that certain small groups of people should not be in control of that much of the market. Well what happens when the government is that small group of people? This is my point. Jagex already has a large amount of market control. They control the GE. Do you remember Climbing Boots and Amulets of Accuracy? If Jagex were to continue adding more restrictions onto what will continue to be the primary method of trade between players, they risk tipping the balance too far. Already the market has been shown to not be functioning correctly. You remember the prices party hats reached? Blue was around ~5bil street, Cracker was around ~32bil street. These prices were never able to equalize due to GE update restrictions and price floors on junk. I do not think you entirely understand my argument. I draw heavily from Hayek, and in order for me to continue this, you would need to read this book first. I was unable to find a PDF of the book, probably due to copyright laws, or I would link you straight too it.

Wilderness and Free Trade will return - 17 January 2011
I was thinking they were gonna add brawlers and stuff to Rev drops, which would be on that island east of the wilderness, I think. Seem's like it would be a decent thing to do. Actually give me a reason to kill rev's besides just because I hate them so much. :P

Giant Mole
Back when I did the mole with range. I used the Emerald (e) bolts first and only ruby once I got the emerald spec. Then I finished the kill with emerald bolts, and when I found the mole near death, I used a Dbow for the guaranteed damage to kill it. Yeah, if you have the charms to get a terrorbird, definitely get it. The scrolls really speed up the time it takes to find the mole again. Emerald (e) bolts are nice for poisoning it because you can poison from a safespot. A good way to find safespots is look for where the wall juts out a few blocks. If the mole is attacking you, stand next to where the wall juts out, so the mole is walking along the wall to get to you. If the safespot works, the mole will hit the wall and stop. Because of the shape of the mole, a lot of safespots along the wall only work in one direction. Safespots like the northeast corner of the spawn room work in both directions tho.

What is your TRUE Combat Level
Jagex is way ahead of you on that. In the new dungeons, the NPC's are now made non-aggressive based on your defense level, so being +200 defense bonus makes them not attack. It's a simple matter to apply to that idea to all NPC's. So now, walking around with full melee armor makes you less of a target to melee monsters, but more likely to be attacked by magic based NPCs. Not wearing any armor makes you more of a target to both. If you think about it, that would make more sense. Of course, in case of NPC's, it's about what you wear and not what you're carrying in inventory. With pvp, it's about what you have in inventory, as you can quickly don and switch. It's actually a bit harder then that to get them to non aggro. More like 200+ defense bonus, and an overload/turmoil. But you still haven't answered several questions about what you are actually proposing here. Like, why is slayer in the tertiary skills bracket when it does absolutely nothing for combat? Do you realize that this would involve recalculating the combat level for every monster in runescape? Also, in response to your post from last page. You essentially ignored the fact that the wilderness is about fighting other players. Your example with the guy in divine and torva being level 380, and only attackable by those geared the same as him is flawed in a huge way. You forget that the wilderness is largely multicombat. Basically, you would give him immunity to lower level teams simply because he has better gear. That is kind of the point of teams, you don't have to have max gear, you have strength of numbers. Then, you went on to say that he would only be attackable by people risking what he was. Well, he is in unKOable gear, and essentially everyone else is unable to attack him. This means he has 0 risk because no one can fight him, no teams can jump him. You are saying that by risking a lot, he could have 0 risk. But this would mean he isn't risking anything... Also, you hear about the combat triangle being broken because whenever the RSOF pker dies, he rants about how he died cause the combat traingle is broken. God forbid it is actually his fault. But in pvp, the combat triangle is actually represented well (in p2p). And each style alone does not fare as well as someone using all styles. @Assassin You can cheapen herblore quite a bit by doing penguins every week, and using herbs from MTK. During last year, I farmed Avantoe heavily from March-August. I managed to farm 10k avantoe. I also planted papayas trees, and periodically collected mort myre fungi. I did penguins religiously, and spent the points on herblore. I also cleaned most herbs from MTK, and once a week I collected 2nds and made Prayer potions and super sets from MTK herbs. I saved the Dwarf and Lanta. Then, at the end of August, I bought the rest of the Papaya and Fungi I needed, and made 14k super energies and 10k spec restores. I also made ~1k extreme sets. The penguin points and MTK had gotten me 63-76 herblore, and so I went from 76-90. Then the BXPW was announced, so I saved the rest of my supplies and stockpiled enough to get 90-95. Spending that long farming Avantoe and collecting 2nds saved me about 150m on the cost of herblore. It also let me keep slaying, instead of concentrating on doing something that made more money. :)

Does Free Trade entail No GE Buy limits?
Well, what's the problem then? Since people are doing it for free, life goes on regardless of how the GE works. If the GE disappeared, you're stuck with the same issue Then no need for sales tax for normal purchases. Jagex can introduce a tax for bigger bulk purchases to encourage p2p trades. Remember, without price limits the GE becomes even more convenient. And as you pointed out, this will then give purpose to all the good semaritans listed in your first paragraph. With hundreds of thousands trading on six slots, we won't see a bottleneck. Without price limits, prices will find their player evaluated price very quickly. Plus, the prices listed will still just be suggestions, so if they're a little off it doesn't matter. Nothing is being controlled. You have FREE TRADE. If you don't like the GE then you DON'T USE IT! With restricted trade, yes, what I suggested would be very bad. However, now, Jagex needs to return power to the positive merchant class. You know, the guys that collected items in small amounts to sell in bigger amounts. With the GE, such a class of people just won't exist and I think RS will be more the poorer for it. I kindly disagree[/hide] Why would Jagex wish to encourage people to make player to player trades over using the GE? There is no logical reason to do this. Also, any sort of taxes in a computer game just make it less fun. Giving up your hard earned gp just because Jagex decided they want to remove it from the game is not fun. Taxes only work when there is an actual reason for them. This means, in real life, governments need money to run. They need money to Just because governments need taxes doesn't mean I enjoy April 15th any more then anyone else. Jagex does not need gp to run. They are the ones that created gp, they programmed it into the game, they can create as much for themselves as they want. Therefore, all forms of unnecessary taxes detract from the fun of the game and would be seen as Jagex going on a power trip. Also, what are you doing when you use the GE? Are you not trading with other players? Maybe your GE is like a magical store, with RNG's that determine how quickly and how many of each item you get. As for me, when I use the GE I trade my cash for someone elses items. Every time I use the GE, I trade with another player. As you so kindly pointed out: You say this, and in the same breath say Jagex should control buy limits on items. Basically, you are saying Jagex should institute free trade over here, and then you walk 10 steps and now you only have harshly restricted trade. But wait, taxes are a form of control, and last I checked, they cost additional money onto purchases. But I thought you said:

instantly. "arrghh?! i killd him n he droped oly rune?! whs my curupt draon!" the anoying thing is, people will say stuff like this. F2P pking will actually become less rewarding, since you usually got most of the items your opponent was wearing anyway, in addition to the chance of corrupt dragon. P2P, however, will become vastly more rewarding. No more killing someone in full ahrims + a whip and getting a seren statuette and a bunch of taters. What's "taters," precious? What's taters, eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73AvY_FE5Ig&playnext=1&list=PL4AF541467708DF89&index=27

I am guessing the vertical axis is given in thousands of gp? e.g. 190,000 on the axis translates to 190m phat price.

What is your TRUE Combat Level
Agreed. But then, I've never played a game that so crudely tries to squeeze lots and lots of skill levels into one number for the supposed convenince of everyone else. My objection is that combat level itself isn't a meaningful term. Attack level is, strength level is, defence level is, HP is, because these all have a direct influence on somebody's ability to hit and take damage. Combat level is an inconsistent umbrella term that doesn't fully represent what it stands for. To take another RPG as an example, you say Blissey has 225 HP and 135 SpDef base stats, but you don't say its average base stat is 90 because this says nothing meaningful about its strengths against special sweepers and horrific weakness against physical sweeps. 225HP is meaningful, 135 SpDef is meaningful, trying to make an average between them isn't. Whether you include potions, food, armour or whatever is really irrelevant to the argument that the term itself is just an artificial number. The question really is: What does 'combat level' actually mean? I don't agree with you that combat level crudely squeezes these stats into one number. I have never had a problem guessing the levels of people I fight in the wilderness. Their names and gear usually gave them away. It's always been part of the fun of pvp not being 100% sure about skills. Unless you...yaknow....take 15 seconds to type their name in the hiscores. If it was "meaningful" for you, then basically it would segregate people into groups where they could only fight against people who were essentially exactly the same. Also, how do you propose dealing with auto-aggressive monsters like the wild dogs in Brimhaven Dungeon, or things like that, where their aggressiveness is dependent on combat level. You need to remember that combat level is not only applicable players. Monster combat level is calculated exactly the same.

Best use of Hati for Magic...
So wait, if you are training magic, at say, level 86. You get 860k total xp out of them, this includes hitpoints xp you might gain? So it would be 600k mage xp and 260k hitpoints xp roughly? Sorry for the threadjacking :/

Lumbridge teleport is pretty close to an altar. Best option is to bring house tabs, and use the altar in your house, and the Falador portal in your house. Also, there are plenty of safespots along the walls of the cave. IIRC on the north east corner of the spawn room, there is a nice safespot that can be used for the main part of the kill. Also, try using ruby and emerald enchanted bolts. Make sure you get a bolt spec with the emerald first, and try to get a bolt spec or 2 before it digs with the ruby. Then switch back to emerald (e) for the rest of the kill, or use broad bolts. Try to safespot it wherever the wall juts out. You will realize that a lot of the safespots work in one direction, but not in the other. Range pots will help tons. Also, if you get any familiar to attack it, when the mole digs your familiar will follow it for a few steps. This shows you the rough direction that the mole went when it dug.

Wilderness and Free Trade will return - 17 January 2011
I read an interesting article last spring Japan economists were meeting with other economists around the world to discuss what could be done to keep Japan's currency as high as it is. The problem was, the Yen was becoming too strong against other currencies, and it risked destabilizing Japan's entire economy. Japan was actually worried it's currency would become worth too much.

Does Free Trade entail No GE Buy limits?
Cause obviously you don't need 100million lobsters. Duh. We want to make sure that people only receive what they absolutely need, not any extra. Cause this totally worked for the Pilgrims and all. <_< /scarcasm Sry, couldn't resist. I actually agree with you.

Am i doing this right?
Does gaining HP xp count towards the total xp that the gloves can give? Also, a lot of people are doing hunter kits cause its roughly 240k xp per hour with the gloves. Idk how fast string ammy is.

Does Free Trade entail No GE Buy limits?
It was by day. I have a friend who made millions buying barrows pieces and putting them into sets and reselling them. The limit was 100 of something a day, so he was doing 100 of each barrows set a day. @pulli23 I said look at Germany after just after WWII. 1945ish. Their economy was garbage. Luckily, they got themselves a new government, and it did better then the last one. Remember, the state of Germany's economy in 1945 was not affected by how they did in the future. The state of Germany's economy was affected by what they did in the past, namely the 30s and early 40s. You might be interested in reading The Road to Serfdom by F. A. Hayek. It deals extensively with this very concept.

Does Free Trade entail No GE Buy limits?
I wondered this very thing. @myu In the referendum, they stated that both the price floor and ceiling will be removed. @Nuke Marine You come up with some of the most far fetched ideas I have seen. Hiring people to buy things for you is kind of silly when quite a few people are willing to do it for free. I have frequently bought 100 battle staves for friends, or just random people in the GE, because I don't need them. Also, there are already companies that did this for people. You could order x amount of an item, and then they would provide it after a certain time. Jagex didn't have a problem with these companies. They advertised openly on the forums, and they were very useful for getting larger quantities of harder to get items. You could place an order for Dragonstones for example, and depending on how many you wanted, they would fill it. Sales tax in RS would be generally bad for the economy. We will already be having rather large deflation once free trade comes out and the remaining 76kers and BHers stop getting statuettes. No need to exacerbate the problem by forcefully yanking cash out of the economy. More restrictive on the amounts you can buy per hour is also a very bad idea. It keeps the item from fluctuating in price when there is such a limited movement of those items around the market. Essentially freezing the supply of items, like Battlestaves, would lock them at one price. Price fixing has been shown across the world to be generally bad for the economy. Making it impossible to trade enough quantity of an item to make it update in price would have this exact effect. As gp value fluctuates, item prices should be able to fluctuate with it, not remain fixed at a certain point because it is impossible to buy any of them. Making people pay higher taxes to buy more of an item would be another incredibly bad idea. I mean, why don't you just suggest microtransactions while you are at it? The tighter something is controlled, the more stifled it becomes. This leads to a stagnating economy and society. If you want an example, go look at Germany just after WWII. Creating extra useless rules just because you can create them is never a good idea. Making players jump through hoops and wade through seas of red tape in order to do anything just removes every reason to play this game. tl;dr You're entire theory is just a blatently bad idea.

What is your TRUE Combat Level
They don't. Combat isn't just about strength. Some people can specialize in defence, others in strength, etc. It's sort of like games where you level up, and you can spend points on which stat to increase, defence, dexterity, strength, accuracy, etc. Not everyone is going to end up with the same build, and each have their advantages, which is why people are specialized, and average stats in everything aren't neccessarily the best. Still, at mid-high levels a main can handle a pure very easily. At lower levels, they risk being KO'd by mage. The way I see it, equipment should have nothing to do with combat level. In every other game I've played, I've never seen equipment change a characters level. Of course, different tiers of equipment and meant to enhance combat capabilities, that's the whole point of them. I'm fairly certain he meant that more along the lines of strength = general combat ability. So more like, "Why does somebody from the same combat level always have to be equal in [general combat ability]?" Namely, why do they have to be evenly matched? I don't think they do. No pvp system I have ever seen only allows you to fight other people who are identical in skill and ability. That would be no fun, and you wouldn't be able to get much better at it.

What is your TRUE Combat Level
Ok, this has been ponied out twice now, and I'm calling foul. To say it isn't broken assumes: A level 138 using melee utilizing all equipment availble in the game (limited by inventory slots) has better chance against a level 138 ranger and worse chance against a level 138 mage. Likewise, to say it isn't broken assumes: A level 57 with 60 atk, 60 str, 80 range, 80 mage, 10 def, 60 con, 0 prayer has an equal chance against a level 57 with 40 str, 40 atk, 52 rng, 52 mag, 40 def, 40 prayer and 40 con, with each decked out with the best equipment and items they can use. IF the above cases are true, then you're right. Nothing needs to be changed. Of course, under the current system, you can't have a level 138 mage UNLESS you raise atk and str. That alone tells you something is wrong in RS land. That the pure can use whips, ancients and plethora of other high level items also tells you that equal levels does not mean equal combat potential. Take away all the items, then yeah, they might have an equal shot. However, kindly offer up reasons why you think it's not broken. Perhaps I'm wrong, and merely misunderstood people when they talked about op pures or about the combat triangle being broken. Because: Is level 56. And: Is level 51 A far more realistic build for either of these guys would be something along the lines of: Player 1: 60 attack 63 strength 10 defense 62 constitution 82 mage 82 range 1 prayer Player 2: 46 attack 50 strength 40 defense 46 constitution 64 mage 64 range 43 prayer Both those accounts are level 57, and within one level of anything in leveling up. Then, you must factor in playing ability. Player 1 could have the advantage in a DM, but only if he knew what he was doing. Magic is vastly overpowered in PVP, and Player 1 has the magic level to somewhat utilize this. That being said, if it came to straight DPS from one player against another. Player 2 would actually have the higher DPS in both Range and Mage. 64 range is enough to utilize the rune crossbow, and since we are using max gear, that means Dragonstone (e) bolts. Now you can easily toss on an antifire shield to negate the bolt spec. There is something you are missing though. Player 2 can pray. This means ~40% off of any DPS that Player 1 does. Not only this, but the added soak from rune armor compared to black armor will further knock off DPS from Player 1. Now, I realize you tried to intentionally build Player 2 to be the weaker account, and you built Player 1 to be very strong against people like Player 2 especially. Trying to weight the results with one poor example does not show anything. For example, I can come up with an account that will very easily crush Player 1. We will call him Player 3. Player 3 only has 4 stats. They are: 83 Defense 76 Hitpoints 43 Prayer 99 Summoning He can easily crush Player 1. Now, I won't make up any other specilized cases that deliberately weight the fight in the favor of one account. When people say the combat triangle is "broken" it more refers to PVM. Have you noticed all the bosses in Runescape? How many of them do you do anything but melee? I will tell you the answer. It's 2. Possibly 3, if you don't have a divine. They are, Kree'ara, Nex, and possibly Zilyana. You have to range Kree. You just can't melee her, and mage just splashes. For Nex, teams use a mixture of range and melee, ranging for some phases, meleeing for the Blood Phase and minions. For Zilyana, one of the tactics is to range her, and constantly run around the room with her following you so you she doesn't actually hit you with her spec. Or you can melee her with a Divine+CLS. I didn't even include TD's in this list because they have become more like high level players version of abyssal demons. You camp there, kill some, restock, kill more, restock. In PVP however, things are different. Mage is the dominant class if you have maxed stats and maxed gear. But again, using only mage is not the way to go. You must know how to switch, and hybrid. It is easiest to get a KO with melee, due to Korasi's sword. But a pure mage will most likely be able to keep someone with a Ksword away from him, not to mention have higher average defense against the Ksword spec. To PVP effectively at high levels, you have to use at least 2 styles of combat, and using all 3 helps. Also, when people say the combat triangle is "broken" it does not mean that the system for determining combat level is broken. The idea is not to have combat level show that a person is absolutely identical to you in every ability. This would be kind of pointless. The entire reason that people actively PVP is because they want to show that their setup or character build is superior to another players. Also, in response to your other post, If someone is wearing full Torva and a Divine in the wild, they must be crazy. Not only this, but it will be painfully obvious that they are wearing full torva and a divine since it's kind of covering their entire avatar. You don't need combat level to tell that someone has better gear then you, you can see that with your eyes. It's really obvious.
