  1. Eyes are a bit wide.... Good start
  2. The text on the left is way too distracting... I think it needs to be brightened up alot... You're always talking about surface maps and the like, but you don't have your scene bright enough so we can see it. Your light source is strange, it seems to be coming from one place, but when I look, it isn't there. Serious lack of composition.... You are professing your skill in terragen; I suggest complimenting it with a good knowledge of composition. Keep up the hard work.

The ironic thing about the whole proxy blocker, is that no matter how much they try to keep Alex out, he's going to find ways in... There is no practical way to get rid of him.... If I was handling it, I would simply condone him being here... sorta "overlook" it... No matter what happens, he's always going to come back just to spite them; it's the kind of person he is.
  4. Let's all stop argueing and be honest. I started a majority of the trends here. Nuff said.

Nacho = I don't understand the question...? Tttia- They have a new thing, it's a proxy detector. My ISP uses a proxy (?) and hence when I try to login I am denied. I spoke with LadySarafina (sp?) and she basically told me I was SOL...

I'm thinking about joining RSC... I used to be a member there many years ago, but I'm sure they've switched servers since then.... I'll probably have to resign up.... I can only access tipit from work and school now, so I don't get to post [bleep] as much as I'd like.... Thanks for the mention btw, Sub. :-D

You can render inside preview viewports. ;) It's a screeny of the render, but it's still a render. I can see the HDRI reflections.
  8. Terragen is weak... I could make landscapes in XSI just as good, not that hard at all. Sure a terragen master might be able to make something nicer, but I have much more control and power, so an intermediate XSI user can own an excellent Terragen user. Terragen is severly weak especially without the ability to do overhangs and more dynamic land formations. I'm looking forward to Terragen2, hopefully it's alot better.

I'm sure Entangle likes his name next to abstract/3D.  Thanks for mentioning Azvy. My favs have all been said a thousand times so I'll pass. I'm sure he likes his name next to Nadril even more.

Haha, don't be fooled, Keiphus has always been cocky. Tttia, that picture is rendered. He used HDRI (High Dynamic Range Image) which takes pictures that have tons of lighting data and other info poured into them, and they are set as an environment (so to speak) for the render. The render then reflects them to give more realistic lighting conditions, and some people even light their scenes without lights, but instead with HDRI. It's a really cool thing to get into, if you can do it right. Unfortunately, Alex picked a model that doesn't really demonstrate the complete awesomeness of HDRI. As for your oils, alex... I like the top one alot, looks awesome. The second one is alright, not really sure what it is... Kinda messy, but that's oils...

I didn't read the entire context of what he said, but that post by Swift sounds like sarcasm. :-?
  12. Actually, good photorealistic fire is VERY difficult to do. We are doing some for the new Cheetos commercial, and it's not an easy task. 3D programs aren't that great at doing fire (especially XSI)... Although there is a new plugin for 3DSM called AfterBurn that seems to be pretty good. I'd say though that photorealistic fire is best left on the compositing end...
  13. Ni4Ni - Your post was just as much spam as his, if that's what you are trying to say. Anywho, I'd like to see you do some stuff, but don't burn yourself out as soon as you get back in. Commercial art is fun to do really, I'd say you should try and find some freelance work, it would give you good experience and you'd get paid. ;) Welcome back though. ;)

Please do, I'm usually impressed by your work... Let's see what you got. 8)

Some people are thick; nobody posted this to say that Tipit was better than RSC or whatever you call it. Is that the one that was owned by W13 back in the day? The old Zybez community? I was one of the first 30 or so members of that community, and I remember that pictures and signatures were played very harshly on, and you could only usually find one or two media posts over in offtopic. But as I have heard, alot has changed as of recent. There is a strong difference between technical skill and artistic ability. Educate me on how to build a house and I will do it. But don't ask for your dream home or a mansion. The idea in this analogy is simple; although with enough learning and technical skill you can make the "coolest" 3D render and pile alot of [cabbage]ty brushes on top of it, that doesn't mean you can accurately convey a good idea. Don't get me wrong, this isn't directed at the banned guy (forgot his name), but everyone. I think a problem with alot of artists today (I use the term "Artist" loosely) is that they aren't really artists, they are technical designers. There is a strong difference here, at least in my mind. I know I was raised on traditional types of art, which is why I can use Prismas and other medias so well. However, I think alot of todays artists are just (excuse me for this huge stereotype) kids who are computer nerds and see something that looks cool, and try their best to reproduce it. Although artistic skill does develop, I feel that it's something you develop when you are very young, once you get a certain age it becomes very difficult to teach. Some people just don't have it. Sorry, move on. I don't mean to dog on the RSC artists, but the idiot who tried to "best" us set you up on that: I've known Alex since he started posting here ages ago, and he always had a good eye for things. He's very good in 3D and is a good technical designer; I've never seen anything that screams "artist" to me, though. In fact I'd like to see some more involved 3D models, most of them look kinda messy? Firefreek is one of the few exceptions, he does have strong artistic skill, and sometimes chooses to waste time making 3D abstracts (). Can't blame him for that, everyone gets burnt out once and a while. But based on the work posted by Resket (and my knowledge of FF) I'd say that he is your crown jewels. Kimmy has good work based on those 2 vectors, but it really isn't difficult to do. Sorry but I'm not impressed, give me an hour in Illustrator and I could produce something exactly the same. I can't really tell what Swift is doing, as his work doesn't impress me, based on those 2 signatures. I hate playing the "who's better" game, but I honestly think there is more pure talent here, than there is over there (again, based on the work posted). I have yet to find someone who can illustrate as well as MrX, design as well as Wyrm, conceptualize as well as Witty, or show as much diversity as DementedHero, etc etc... I think if you really compare and combine everything, I'd say we've got an edge on you. For what it's worth though, FF, I do think you are an excellent artist, and I did miss you on my previous list. Just haven't seen you in a while to remind me of you.
  16. Can't really see it.... Usually when people post 3d works they post alot of different views and close ups....
  17. Closeups/Wires/other views please? It's hard to tell at that resolution, but it looks like you have alot of illegally intersecting polys...
  18. Keiphus replied to a post in a topic in Art and Media
Doesn't "best" usually mean like an elite few....? Why are people listing like 12 names? Wyrm, Froth, Entangle, and Demented get my top votes.
  19. Killing some rendertime at work... have an old version of PS and I can't stand it, but here's somethin i came up with.... Switchfoot, This is your life.
  20. I think you could bring the text in a bit and maybe stroke the outside of it... it's a bit strong with the white text on the red background... concept is cool though... but i think it could come together a bit more... quick chop example:
  21. Keiphus replied to a post in a topic in Art and Media
I'd say the color on the text is pretty close to horrible... Both colors, that is.
  22. Let's keep religion out of this, eh?
  23. Other views? I don't know that much about guitars themselves, but the render looks wierd above the neck? or whatever it's called.... Other views would help I'm sure... Looks nice though.
  24. Throwing a bunch of lights around the scene will do nothing but disrupt it. Having more cars will defeat the purpose of the image. My point being, there are multiple light sources when you go these car shows, so there is no real "correct" light source. There are highlights all over, so you can't really say something like, "The light source of the guy isn't accurate with the light sources implied on the car." I was just at a show on Sunday, and alot of the shows are at Drag Strips. The "showoff" part of the show is in the parkinglot, while they had quartermile races, burnouts, and other contests on the actual track. Sure, some are at convention centers too. I go to a different car show every week all over Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, including a local one that's here every Friday and Saturday... I'm not trying to disregard your criticism; I'm simply stating that in this regard it isn't necessarily one of those things I'm going to go back and fix.
  25. Most car shows, and gatherings are in the street/parkinglot.
