  1. 4K by 4K @ 300res is a bit repetitive... The way you get the 4K by 4K is by multiplying the 300res by whatever size you decide to make the print, in inches. For instance, if I'm printing a flyer for a company, I'll make it 8.5x11 at 300dpi (print quality resolution). The resulting canvas will then be somewhere along the lines of 2550x3300. Alot of people don't really understand resolution and it's uses and why it works how it does, etc blah blah blah...
  2. how's this? more of the idea of wind and stuff? I'm not that great with hair as you can see.... also fixed a bit of the cloak thing... bah..
  3. HE comment directed to Quer_Skull. :o
  4. I can't remember the last time I did anything under 300dpi.... Haha...
  5. I'd rather not be reponsible for posting things... with me you never know if I'm gonna show up the next day... things can get busy around here and it' just not a good idea... Maybe you can just post a theme, an object, and a character... or something like that.. and then people can pick from those.... I haven't opened photoshop on my home machine for about 2 months now.
  6. Yeah you're right about the shading on the body... I thought that was off a bit too... The cape is actually being "blown" a bit, and the hair (which is only about half finished) will eventually reflect it. It's just a slight breeze, but when the hair is done it will be evident. Thanks for the railing comment, I didn't realize it until just now. I think I overestimated a bit when I said 40% done... although I'm not trying to make this a masterpiece (just trying to get the grade, at this point) I agree that alof of things need to be fixed... So lets change the 4 to a 2... Haha... Clouds aren't finished either... It's a HE... The explosion was just a throw together, that isn't the actual explosion.. Think of it as the same as the black dots with the white tails.. I just threw it on for placement.. This is due tomorrow and I have it saved on a school machine, so I won't be able to work on it until then... I don't think I can finish it in 2 hours but maybe I can get something together to get the teacher off my back. How do you guys feel about colors of the different elements? Also, any ideas on how to get better mountain textures would be greatly appreciated... Umm I think that's about it... And (since I don't want to draw feet and sandals) I think I'm going to make the robe longer like you said tttia, and make it all bundled up at the ground... Uhh I think that's it for now... for real this time....
  7. Haha... I'll do the next one... fairies aren't really my thing... Good luck remembering to post this everyday... I did it for about a week then got sick of being the only participant. But hey, maybe if at least 2 of us do them... who knows.... Awaiting the next topic.
  8. Comments and crits wanted... This is for a stupid portfolio for school, not my actual resume portfolio... Kinda just throwin stuff on, although I will admit I did try pretty hard on the character... Heh.. I hate doing stuff like this... but anywho... comment away... The planets will be redone, those are just put in there so I can look at compostition... I'd say I'm about 40% done.... Time spent is about 3 hours so far. The black dots will be ships taking off from the little battle/explosion you see there... I also need some ideas on what details to add to the balcony... Right now I'm thinking about adding some plants and stuff... and of course detailing the handrail and stonefloor... Everything done from scratch, and so far no references have been used... I plan to use one when I perfect the water, so I can get good reflections and stuff.... Full image is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3800x3200pixels... Anyways, enough of me.. say something.. please... :)

Sounds interesting, although I can't say I will be able to participate all that often; and I don't think many people have cameras....
  10. You should work on better lighting your scenes... caustics are cool and all sometimes... but that alone won't get you very far... The ones that aren't using caustincs (very few) are very poorly lit. Just my opinion of course.
  11. Seriously though, the whole "maybe you don't like it because you always lose to it," and "you're just jealous you can't do it;" arguments are lame, try something new.

Great post, idiot. Your village called, by the way. They want you back. I like it, although I'm not a fan of the text. I'd change it to something a bit more... (for lack of a better word... (someone shoot me for saying this)) "techy". Right now it looks too "pirates of the carribean" style.... I like the pallette, though. :)
  13. Heh... The only reason I stopped picking on Nadril is because he didn't give up like the other ones. That doesn't mean I iike him. That was a joke, if you didn't catch it. Anywho, as for me, I have found that absolutely nothing I did or learned while I was a "sigmaker" has anything to do with what I do now. I guess it might help you if you are going for a career in print or some similar design. But I wouldn't say that's where the money's at. Nothing I do at my VFX and Animation Studio has anything to do with anything I have ever done for a "sig." It's something you'll figure out sooner or later. I guess the best thing I got out of all this was the ability to critcize, and take criticism; it's essential in this business. I like to be an optimist and say there is a method to my madness; or should I say, my ashole-ish posts. Someone might find them useful. Anywho, enough rambling...
  14. This has been something that has been going on for a while here, Razy_m8. What you have to be able to do, is distinguish the people who consider themselves designers, and the ones who consider themselves sigmakers. The designers you can tell off the bat; the people who are somewhat serious about the business and that will probably pursue something related to the field at a later date. But the latter, the "sigmakers" are the ones who just throw together a bunch of dog crap to make money in possibly one of the morst administrated MMORPG's ever (cheap shot, I know). Basically, the people who suck at this and throw stuff together aren't learning anything, and they probably never will. But you can't take them serious. Just ignore them and don't waste your time commenting on their work, unless of course you feel you can flame them bad enough to make them quit. Unfortunately, most of them have some resolve.
  15. Bah, anyone can render a high resolution image. I was talking about working with print quality graphics where you have to actually do most of the work, brushing and whatnot. I think the last time I brushed a planet that high-res it took me about 4 hours.. and I even cloned alot at that.

  17. Pfftt... Try working with planet textures that are 2800x2800. And that's just the planet texture, not the canvas. Then you can talk about hard. :-P
  18. Cute, although your perspective is off.
  19. It's a good thing to know how the layer styles work and how they will affect your image, instead of randomly selecting whichever "looks coolest" at the time. When you get into multiple styles on multiple layers all on top of each other it can get very dynamic. Depending on how the image is and what colors/intensities are used, any style or combination of styles can work. Sorry, it just bothers me when people throw out random layer styles like that. I'm calm now.
  20. Hope you don't mind me being brutally honest.. Scrap it. Compared to the other one, this is just garbage. The doves are like stock PS stamps... I'd rather have seen you make your own. The clouds, although they are your own brushes, look like a tiled texture. Also, as sub said, there is no apparent lightsource; save the one suggested by the planets shadows... but it isnt conveyed through the whole scene. You seem to have a good grasp on colors and stuff, I think you have alot of potential but maybe you're just being lazy? Push the limits and do what you don't know how to do. Expirement, it's how you learn. Good luck.
  21. You need to move the crow over to the right a bit...

  23. Zezima is about 19 or 20 by now... and he's a pretty cool guy. He has a passion for this game, obviously. I've known him for many years now, and I don't think he slept for 3 of them. Good guy, not an [wagon] at all. He's a playa, too.
  24. Looks nice, I like it. Although I must say I'm not too sure I like how it's framed... hmm I dunno I'll update this if I can figure out how to word what I want to say... Haha. Looks good though, nice technique and stuffs.
  25. Heh. Froth, you are one of those guys that no matter how hard the rest of us try, you always have more innovative ideas than the rest of us. I consider myself a professional, as I get paid (a good amount of money, at that) to do TV commercials and other various "Graphic Design" types of things... however, I think I'm more of a technical type of designer (as most people are) whereas you have that innate ability as a true artist. It's one of those things no matter how hard we try, we just cannot learn. You're going to be one of the few who does great things in this business. Good luck to you also.
